Should Derrick White get less playing time? Walsh more minutes?
Transcript
00:00Lee, like many, apparently had an issue with Derek White.
00:03We've discussed that a lot this morning, what you do with Derek White.
00:08He certainly is very important when it comes to playing defense.
00:12I don't know what, I don't know.
00:14Meggo, you're there day in, day out, every night, every weekend.
00:19I don't know what you do about Derek White, or tomorrow night at least.
00:23You said yesterday, Wiggy, that you wanted Peyton to take his minutes.
00:27I want Shireman to take more of his minutes and Peyton to go in for Hauser
00:33because you can't have Peyton and Hauser on the court at the same time
00:37because then you're really, really lacking defensively.
00:41I think Shireman, or Big Shot Bob, is aggressive, or even Jordan Walsh
00:47because Jordan Walsh does a really good job on covering Maxie,
00:50but he doesn't give you as much on the offensive end.
00:53I feel like Shireman gives you a little bit of everything that Derek White gives you
00:58except more offense.
00:59I think you've got to be honest with yourselves about who's a good matchup in this series.
01:04And Pritchard gets downhill.
01:07He can cut inside, and he can put up the threes.
01:10And honestly, he's a strong guy given his size.
01:14It's not like he's this turnstile on defense.
01:18So I know Derek White is a great defender, and he's got all these blocks as a guard,
01:23and he's fantastic, but I would lean more on Pritchard going forward in this series.
01:28Let me ask you this.
01:29Would you go with Derek White to stop?
01:33Because I think Pritch coming off the bench, that's his wheelhouse.
01:36That's where I think he feels the best.
01:38And start Big Shot Bob over Sam Hauser.
01:43I would think about it.
01:44You know I love Shireman's game lately.
01:45Right.
01:46So, yeah, I think that that's a little bit more physicality.
01:50Hauser gives you the catch-and-shoot threes that he's really good at,
01:54but they're taking that away from you.
01:56Like the Sixers have been dictating that,
01:58so I think you have to find a different way to punch back.
02:00But you get a little bit of the three-point shot from Big Shot Bob,
02:03so you might not be losing much from starting Shireman.
02:07You're actually gaining because he's going to give you the hustle factor
02:11when it comes to rebounds.
02:12He's a solid defender, and he's a guy that can create a little bit
02:17to create his own shot and not have to rely so much on the three-pointer
02:21where Hauser is just – he's a three-point shooter.
02:25Don't ask him to do anything else.
02:26So disappointing that they let them get back into this
02:29and let them get the momentum.
02:31It's crazy.
02:34It's crazy that we are here in Boston and we're seeing potentially the flip side
02:38of both of it where you're letting a team and the Sixers get back into the series.
02:43Right.
02:44And then –
02:44Sabres have done the same perhaps with the Bruins.
02:47And the Bruins are like taking a page right out of the Sixers book.
02:50And you – and this is why I always go back to what Swaggy P said.
02:55You have to stop playing with your food.
02:57You get your food, man.
02:59Don't play around with it.
03:00Just eat it.
03:00And they should have been able to do that and close this series out a long time ago.
03:04But they get to the point where they think they can just, you know,
03:08play with their food or turn the switch on whenever they want.
03:11But if it – I just – explain this to me like I'm five because we look at it
03:19and go when your shots are not dropping, when you are shooting 30 percent,
03:28you do not win the basketball game.
03:31Where is the adjustment from Joe Missoula and going, all right –
03:35or, you know, we were talking about Tatum or Brown, whoever the alpha is.
03:40Right.
03:40Or are.
03:41The alphas are.
03:43Like, guys, let's just get the ball inside.
03:46Right.
03:46Go to the hoop.
03:47Get fouled.
03:48Like – and I get it.
03:49It's not fancy.
03:50It's not what the kids want.
03:52But, like, it's how you win a basketball game when your shots are not falling.
03:57Well, I would ask Mago because she's there all the time.
04:00And when Missoula's asked that question, what is his response?
04:05About the threes?
04:06About, like –
04:07He'll say that that's, like, low-hanging fruit.
04:09But if it's not working, and let's say you guys are just cold from the three-point line,
04:14why won't you just try to maybe get some other shots in other areas,
04:19and then you could come back to the threes to see if you heat up?
04:22Yeah, I mean, I really can't speak for him, so I won't.
04:26But I would say that he will look at the margin plays and, you know, points that they're getting off
04:32turnovers,
04:32the other team, and all the – you know, crashing the glass and all those aspects of it,
04:38rather than just are the threes falling or not.
04:40But, again, as I said before, there's also different kinds of threes that you're taking.
04:44And when they're catch-and-shoot threes, that means, like, you're moving the ball around.
04:48It's these pull-up threes that I think –
04:50Tatum hit a couple of them last night, and you're like, okay, Tatum's going to have a big night.
04:55But the Sixers are telling you that they prefer you take those shots.
04:59And that's the difference right now, I think, in these last couple of games,
05:03is that the Sixers are saying, go ahead, babe, take that.
05:06Like, we'll let you settle for that. We're good.
05:08Whereas you are saying, like, you are not really picking your poison on the side
05:14when you're going over with the Sixers.
05:16You're letting them in the driver's seat.
05:18They literally went for almost five minutes in the third quarter last night without a point.
05:26Without a point.
05:27Yep. And I guess to Mago's point, if you want to go dribble, dribble, dribble,
05:31step-back, three-pointer, Philly's like, we'll live with that.
05:34We'll live with you, Tatum, coming off a screen and pulling up.
05:37We'll live with you trying to play –
05:39Because it's stagnant.
05:40Right. We'll live with you, Jalen, trying to play ISO ball and then pulling up.
05:44Where I think the team does better, and we saw them do really well.
05:47I can't remember, was that game three or four where they hit a ridiculous amount of three-pointers.
05:54Because a lot of them were guys open because it was a driving dish.
05:59It was move, like you said, moving the ball.
06:01And if you got a nice open look, all right.
06:03When they bring the ball up, like, they need to get in these sets where they have two options.
06:08Right now it's like the Sixers give them one option and they take that.
06:12And I would love for them – and this is another thing I would love –
06:15and I know it's not what they do.
06:17I know they're at the bottom of the league when it comes to playing with pace.
06:20But I would love for them to just pick the pace up at times and say,
06:25all right, we're going to push the ball.
06:27And I know they don't have the true point guard to do it,
06:30but we're going to push and we're going to attack.
06:32Maygo, 508 Texter says Joe Mazzula's personal relationship with Derek White
06:37is hurting the basketball.
06:39Because they went to the WWE thing together?
06:44That's silly.
06:45I believe it.
06:45You believe that?
06:46I believe that.
