00:00World Series back on here in Titletown.
00:03That is three in a row for the Chad Sox.
00:08They're back.
00:08Way to go.
00:09Curtis, what currently is the magic number?
00:11Are you keeping track?
00:12Yeah, 17.
00:13Okay.
00:14And I have a very, I saw a tweet about this.
00:18If the Red Sox win the World Series, does Cora get a ring?
00:22Which he would.
00:23Nomar got a ring in 04.
00:25Okay.
00:25But the real question is, does Wiggy?
00:29Because if not for Wiggy, Cora still here, no World Series.
00:35I already have a Red Sox World Series ring for my contribution with my time at Nessun.
00:40And based on the job you have done washing John Henry for the last six months,
00:45I think a ring was included in the merch bag that you were given.
00:48Great point.
00:49Multiple merch bags that you were given in Fort Myers.
00:52I just keep it a buck.
00:53I call it like it is.
00:55Yeah, you do.
00:55That's all it is.
00:56Yeah, you do.
00:57Well, listen, it could be that you get rid of the old boss, like the Who song, and welcome
01:07the new boss, and things turn around.
01:10Sometimes you just need to, you know, we say guys need to change the scenery.
01:14Sometimes players just need a new face, new voice in that locker room clubhouse, whatever
01:20it is, to kind of get them to be like, oh, I enjoy playing for this guy.
01:25Yeah.
01:26So you don't think this is like just a dead cat bounce?
01:28I mean, you're telling me that a huge night for the Durbinator is a dead cat bounce?
01:34I think Ranger Suarez is the bigger story.
01:38He went eight again.
01:39He's like the only pitcher that can do that.
01:42Now you're height shaming?
01:43Like you're calling it the bigger story when it comes to Ranger Suarez?
01:47Yeah.
01:48I mean, perhaps Craig Breslow was right about Ranger Suarez and offering him $135 million.
01:56Perhaps.
01:56Would you say Breslow better GM than Theo?
02:02Also, though, I do wonder, because Theo and Cora have a relationship dating back to 07
02:09when they were on the same, you know, Theo was the GM and Cora was here, but we all believe
02:14that Theo was the one that brought in Breslow.
02:16Breslow worked for Theo with the Cubs, right?
02:18Yes.
02:19We sort of don't know what Theo's job is, right?
02:22Like when you saw him, Greg, at the rich people get together in Florida last year, he was
02:28doing work with the PGA.
02:29Yes.
02:30Yes.
02:30But he's part of Fenway Sports Group.
02:33And I don't know, maybe Theo's around and John Henry's around Theo.
02:38And he said, we need to make a major change.
02:39Like, you know what I mean?
02:40Yeah.
02:41I don't, because if Sam Kennedy today says Theo Epstein said to do it, I'd say fine.
02:46Like, even like Theo Epstein can legitimize almost any decision in baseball.
02:50So, Theo is mentoring the Bresbot, is what you're saying?
02:54I mean, I don't know.
02:55I would hope so.
02:56I bet he bounces ideas off of him.
02:58I bet Theo's more like a consultant, you know what I mean?
03:01Where John Henry or Sam says, all right, we're thinking about doing this, Theo.
03:07You know, what's your insight?
03:09And he gives them some insight, and then they make a decision.
03:11Good morning, Greg.
03:12So, Sam Kennedy's on with us in two and a half hours.
03:15And while the early returns are good, and I do believe that the Red Sox made the right
03:22decision, this does not absolve the Red Sox front office from getting them where they are.
03:28And that is that they had an opportunity to have a player in Alex Bregman.
03:36They had the same opportunity with Kyle Schwarber.
03:39And those two decisions are about as clear and black and white as Alex Cora could make
03:47something as a rebuttal to what has been said, that you cannot in one breath tell me that
03:53you want professional ballplayers that know how to play, that are easy to manage, and can
03:58play in Boston, and simultaneously over a couple million dollars and not even a phone call to
04:06Schwarber, and over a no-trade clause to Bregman, say no.
04:10And to me, that suggests that even in the offseason, there was a desire to not make it easy on
04:17Cora
04:18this year.
04:19Because what the hell is it to Sam Kennedy if you don't give a no-trade clause or you give
04:25a no-trade clause?
04:26Does anybody think Bregman's going to start violating the rules and break the law and turn
04:33into some crazy man you need to get out of Boston?
04:35Maybe he wouldn't hit, and that would stink.
04:38But if ever there was a player that basically had a no-trade clause, it's Devers.
04:42I mean, he was as low as you can get, and they were able to unload him to the Giants
04:47with
04:47the full contract being taken on.
04:49So I hate to both sides it, but it is true that I think they made the right decision.
04:59I think that Alex Cora's behavior following the firing was an example of why they made
05:06the right decision.
05:06I heard that like an hour after our show across the street, which is wild.
05:09But the reality is very simple, that this front office still has a long way to go to recapture
05:17the trust of the fan base that they are truly desirous of winning at the way they were before
05:22the last 10 years.
