What was the biggest difference for the Bruins, between Game 4, and Game 5? Urgency? Bruins/NESN PBP Judd Sirott joins! Swayman was visibly 'emotional' on bench, (after being pulled Game 4) how was that received?
Alex Tuch a potential Bruins FA target?

00:00good morning judd good morning i had another text in the text line the other night in game five
00:04yes you did um i was i was excited uh heading into overtime and i could not resist texting you
00:10so
00:11and then afterward you didn't give me a text back i just had this vision of you
00:15head on the pillow big smile on your face getting ready for the next day's show when that thing went
00:19to overtime i was so annoyed i am i'm like so now i have to stay up uh till 10
00:2530 10 45 whatever but
00:27excellent win i want to get to that i want to uh i want to ask about where you rank
00:33sunday's game
00:35when it comes to the worst playoff performances by the by the boston bruins all time i don't know
00:42i'd really have to think about that uh because you and i were talking a little bit about 2019 and
00:47uh because the thought was you know heading back to boston after the win in game six in st louis
00:52when
00:52when the city was ready to pop and they had all the celebrations ready to go where the parade route
00:57was
00:57going to be and then the bruins uh surprised the blues there in game six you're coming back home
01:02here in game seven and you think okay chara bergeron marsh and crechey all these guys all this
01:07experience all the build up to it and they were unable to uh come up with a victory there in
01:12game
01:12seven that was uh that was a difficult game to be able to work through especially the way the start
01:19was so you know to see what the bruins did uh on home ice in game four uh i think
01:26that surprised a
01:27lot of us um you know when it comes to the stanley cup playoffs you know people ask a lot
01:31you know
01:32what's your prediction what do you think what's going to happen and then human nature really gets
01:36involved because you know i i think most of us could have made a coherent argument heading into
01:40game four you know what they're going to come back they're going to tie this series uh and that was
01:44a performance to a man whether it was charlie mcavoy or marco stern you name it they were all
01:49embarrassed by their performance there in game four but if there's one thing that this team has shown
01:54here definitely this season and in the playoffs they can take a punch they came back after a stunning
02:00loss in game one and they came back after a an embarrassing performance in game four and now the
02:06series is back on serve did you notice like what did you notice specifically about their sense of
02:12urgency in game five compared to game four i i don't know if it's the sense of urgency i think
02:19you know the way i saw it translate wiggy was they were able to go tape to tape they were
02:23able to exit
02:24their zone quickly and i think if you look at the three games that they played in buffalo they were
02:29the
02:29better team i think you can easily make an argument they should probably be up three games to two in
02:34this
02:34series because they didn't spend any time in their own zone uh as sean corrales mentioned we were
02:39clean through the neutral zone there was nothing fancy there and everything was was pucks deep and
02:45grinding bodies and that's the style that the bruins want to play uh and you could see it from the
02:51very
02:51start and i think wiggy maybe uh you know to finish off your question even the bruins even though the
02:57fact that the bruins were down didn't like the penalty call on mark kastlik at that point take them both
03:02you don't have to take one at that point uh rasmus dalin thanks to a fortunate bounce you know
03:08jason zucker shot that puck it came right back to him he sends it across the bruins are down one
03:13nothing
03:13but they they were completely undaunted they were the better team in the first period it carried over
03:19into the second uh when they tied the game and ultimately won it seemed like there was a lot made
03:23out of swayman barking at everybody on sunday uh coming off over to the bench and just being
03:31emotional do you have a sense of how that was received by his teammates behind the scenes and
03:38whether that was a motivating factor in their performance the next game i don't think i i well
03:43first of all i haven't had a chance to ask any any of those guys about uh you know how
03:48they responded
03:48to swayman's outburst you know i think marco stern thought it was a positive listen you know there's a
03:53reason uh that he's a vesna trophy finalist one of three was named yesterday uh and that to go
03:59along with his skills is is that battle and that mindset that he plays with i think as a group
04:06listen
04:06they were upset by the way they performed on game four on home ice when they had an opportunity to
04:13square the series and they were able to channel that in game five they could not wait to get back
04:17out of the ice when you look at this team and the games that they win versus they lose versus
04:22when
04:22they lose what do you think they have to be focused on in this game six whether it's mentally
04:30technically as a team to try to be able to come away and win this one to push it to
04:34a game seven
04:35simple and fast uh i think that that's what we've seen you know what you saw in games one two
04:40and five
04:41and you didn't see enough of obviously uh in games three and four here in boston uh quick exits
04:48puck support um those quick 10 foot passes being able to generate speed going quickly through the
04:54neutral zone i think one of the things that we talked about heading into the series is that
04:58when you look at the teams that that win series and move on they're able to dictate the style
05:04buffalo is a team that likes to get up and go if you're having a hard time getting out of
05:09your own
05:09zone and that was certainly a huge issue for the bruins in game four to some extent in game three
05:14that allows and at times during the regular season well definitely um you know i think
05:20the bruins have a specific style that they want to be able to play if they're turning over pucks
05:26against a team like buffalo that is really rich in top end skill you're going to be playing on your
05:31heels you're going to spend a lot of time defending if you're able to exit cleanly if you're able to
05:35get
05:35pucks in deep then you can start to play that grinding game and start to dictate the style that
05:41you want to play when you look at the history of teams who have come back from being down 3
05:46-1
05:47other than a hot goalie what do you see any common denominator about what brings those teams back
05:57um you know i really have to kind of look back at some of the teams that have been able
06:02to rally so
06:02if the bruins were able to do it it would be the first time in franchise history that they have
06:06come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a series it is not easy to do but i think
06:11for a lot of these teams
06:11it's a mentality uh how they approach each and every game listen you're going to have you know much like
06:18they they experienced in game five you might get a bad call a bad bounce and a bad break and
06:24you still
06:24have to be able to play through that and overcome that so i think the teams that are able to
06:30do that
06:31that are able to rally they are unfazed by some of that stuff and they continue to assert the type
06:37of game that they want to play so i think you know yes obviously goaltending is going to be supremely
06:41important but in addition to that it's how the team approaches the game for all 60 minutes when you
06:49look at this team other than you know you can go posture and mcavoy and swayman is there one guy
06:55that
06:56you say all right he needs to have a big game or he needs to be an impact player in
07:02game six
07:04i wiggy i think you know since you know you mentioned you know some of the guys in the
07:09leadership core i i think it's all those veteran players all those guys that occupy either big
07:14contracts or play big time minutes those are the guys they have to show up and lead the way um
07:19you
07:19know brick and i had talked about it again i think on the pre-game show uh that we had
07:23in game
07:23five elias linholm that was a guy who scored a massive goal and when he has been on his game
07:30in the series he has been a difference maker um in all facets of the game it's not just the
07:37goal
07:37but i think marco stern had referenced it this is a guy who can play matchup minutes you're going to
07:42have the opportunity to get the last change here again in game six and you're going to see him up
07:47against uh taste thompson a lot uh so i think you know whether it's elias linholm um you know all
07:55the
07:55guys who are part of that leadership group hampus linholm the guy who set up uh david posternach's
08:01overtime winner that's another guy you know we're talking about five or six guys that are in that
08:06leadership crew they have to they have to play that detailed game from start to finish and i think
08:13that uh if they're able to do that that's certainly gonna you know hopefully lead the way for a bruins
08:18in game seven that was such a beautiful goal and a great call by you on it by the way
08:23well that's
08:23very kind but um you know if you think back to that connection um so that overtime game was the
08:29first
08:29time the bruins have played an overtime playoff game since david posternach finished off the toronto
08:34maple leafs in game seven two years ago a goal that was also set up by hampus linholm if you
08:39remember
08:40the goal uh i want to say uh hampus was probably either at his own blue line or in his
08:45own end
08:46but the bruins you know a lot of teams will do it they'll set up that fast break breakout he
08:52could see
08:52posture not breaking at that point this is two years ago and he drilled the puck down the ice this
08:58was
08:58a little bit of a different play but those guys clearly have a connection uh for linholm to see
09:04posture not to be able to make that pass and as you had mentioned for david posternach to stay on
09:09side at full speed recognized lindholm was going to get the puck guy on his back make the play and
09:15finish that's high end yeah alex tuck would look delightful in black and gold yes he would next season
09:20yes he would um you know and i think that there are 31 other teams around the national hockey league
09:25that are thinking the same thing um you know if you look at uh so the free agent market is
09:31is not
09:31going to be rich with opportunities on the back end there's a kid named darren radish who's playing
09:35for tampa who ripped it up and the bruins could certainly use a right shot defenseman that's one
09:39of the things that they explored at the blue at the uh at the trade deadline and the other thing
09:44that
09:44they're going to probably look at and i think a lot of teams will is a top six forward uh
09:49who's a
09:50right shot like alex tuck he can play in all situations he's obviously got some history here
09:55playing his college hockey here uh but there aren't a lot of guys that are out there on the free
10:00agent market i understand he wants some big dollars it's understandable um the without getting too
10:07detailed um the contracts they're going to be able to offer before the next cba kicks in he has an
10:14opportunity to get a much longer term deal um and i listen i'm sure he he grew up uh just
10:21outside the
10:21buffalo area he grew up in syracuse he grew up a sabers fan he was really excited to come back
10:26as a
10:26saber i think the sabers are desperately trying to keep him but boy would he look good in black and
10:32gold unbelievable unbelievable all right well one more sleep and and then we are there i cannot wait
10:38uh potential jinx in the house i'm i i'm gonna go so i don't know i mean it oh god
10:44unless you want
10:44to stop me i mean i i don't know i have to do i gotta be watching the text line
10:49again i'll probably come
10:51up and say hello i'll come up between periods and say hello it's interesting because when greg talks about
10:56this game do you feel like the pressure momentum like has shifted a little bit to now the bruins
11:02or the bruins thinking about oh the last time we played at home it wasn't very good like where do
11:07you think their mindset is for this game i think it's on the sabers i really do um you know
11:12and i'm
11:13sure that the sabers are going to say ah you know it's on the bruins they have to stay alive
11:17they have
11:17to win this game uh and obviously there's a lot of responsibility that's on the bruins but if you think
11:23about this team in the big picture nobody thought they'd get to 100 points nobody thought that they
11:29would make the playoffs and nobody thought that they would beat the buffalo sabers in this series
11:34now they have to come up with a big performance here in game six and then if they're able to
11:39do that
11:39then you got to go on the road in game seven so i i still think in some ways that
11:44the bruins as a
11:45team are playing with some house money in this one all right chud go get them all right let's go
11:49all right
11:50and uh hopefully we are talking to you next week i i hope about the bruins continuing on well bring
11:55us some luck for a change i will i will i'm not the jinx thing is it's you got a
11:59jersey that you're
12:00gonna wear or you have like a special jersey or shirt no i i'm gonna wear uh some black and
12:05gold
12:05uh sneakers all right that i bought like shine did i got a pair i can let you borrow mine
12:10you
12:10you
