Will we be talking about a series loss or moving onto round 2?
Transcript
00:00And then we'll work in the Pistons here, too, because tonight is game six.
00:03There's no Franz Wagner.
00:04They may play two games before we're back on the air on Monday.
00:09I want to flip this around to the listeners.
00:11Okay.
00:12What is the headline on Monday's show?
00:17Text it in.
00:18Call it in.
00:19Pistons fans, call your shot.
00:22Are we talking about the season on Monday still happening?
00:26Are we previewing the series with Cleveland?
00:28Cleveland?
00:28Do they come back from a 3-1 deficit yet again against Orlando?
00:33Or what does them in and what are we fixated on come Monday morning?
00:372-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
00:39We'll collect some of those.
00:41More of the feedback on the Tigers.
00:43The offense seems to me that they struggle with timely hitting and consistent run generation.
00:48The bullpen might be the worst in baseball.
00:50They will hurt this team all season and will prematurely end their season.
00:54Isn't it weird that our eyes tell us the Tigers are better than we thought,
00:57but the record is worse than we thought?
00:59It's from an unnamed texture.
01:00Yeah, I think that's kind of what we're grappling with here.
01:03I'm not super impressed so far from our bullpen.
01:06It's cheeks and our offense is still inconsistent.
01:09Bullpen ERA is 20th.
01:11That's Kevin and Sterling Heights.
01:13Text says, I believe they're a little worse than I thought they'd be.
01:16Flaherty's disappointing and the bats are too streaky to consistently win series.
01:22So, there's more of the Tigers.
01:24They are 12-7 their last 19 games.
01:27It doesn't seem like it, does it?
01:29They started 4-9.
01:32The trending, right?
01:34This road trip was annoying.
01:35Again, you got to get...
01:36Take the...
01:37One of those blown saves is just...
01:39You take the 3-3 in a heartbeat.
01:41Right.
01:42Yeah.
01:42Because then you're talking about...
01:43Two good teams.
01:43Don't know about the Reds yet.
01:45Maybe long term.
01:46But the Braves are back.
01:47But if they were 17-15, you'd be saying, yeah, sounds about right.
01:52Yeah.
01:53But somehow 500 makes you feel like, well, they're underachieving and I have issues with this ball club.
01:57Yeah.
01:58And you don't bury yourself in April.
01:59That's kind of the goal.
02:00And that was the concern when they dropped to 4-9 is you don't want to get in such a
02:05large hole that getting to 500 is a stretch.
02:08Well, think about this.
02:09John, you referenced it.
02:10Last year, they got off to the hot start, right?
02:12First to...
02:12Was it 20 wins?
02:13First to 30 wins?
02:14Would you rather that, but the underlying numbers suggest you're not that good?
02:18Or would you rather be a team that's bumping along with the underlying numbers to suggest better days are ahead?
02:25I'd rather that.
02:27Otherwise, you feel kind of fraudulent, right?
02:29Like, hey, the first to 20, 30, 40.
02:31But if you pop open the hood, there's some things that are going to get you.
02:34As opposed to this team where I feel like the best is yet to come because of what's happening underneath
02:39the surface.
02:39Because you have five or six quality bats, your lineup is longer.
02:43Because you have a couple front line aces, your rotation is longer.
02:46Do you need to get better performances in the middle innings and from Kenley Jansen late?
02:49Yes, you do.
02:50But in totality, a top 10 ERA and a top 10 OPS is not a 500 ball club and won't
02:56be a 500 ball club as the season goes on.
03:00I mean, yes, I agree.
03:02The numbers are ones that, like last year, we're looking at it going, wow, they're kind of, they've been very
03:10opportunistic.
03:11And things had come together at the right times where they got good hitting and runners in scoring position.
03:18They weren't scoring a ton of runs, but they were opportunistic and they paired it with good pitching.
03:24This is where I'm, I'm looking at it going, all right, they don't have the wind total that they had
03:29at the start of last year.
03:30But I, I do believe, like you mentioned, you pop under the hood and all of a sudden you're looking
03:36at the numbers going, it's sustainable.
03:40Headlines for the Pistons.
03:41Chris, you can lead us off.
03:42You're in Sterling Heights.
03:43Good morning.
03:48Good morning.
04:16If you get to seven, you're playing at home.
04:18You've got the momentum.
04:19Orlando probably still without Franz Wagner.
04:21Yeah, that's what it's going to take, but you got to get out of Orlando first.
04:25You say they're number two score, but you're not sure who it is.
04:27Isn't that part of the concern?
04:29We don't know who it's going to be.
04:31Well, yeah, but it's, if we didn't know who it was going to be throughout the course of the year.
04:34Sure.
04:34Tobias Harris was going to be a part of that equation, but you needed Duren.
04:40You needed Duncan.
04:42You needed all of these guys at individual moments to step up.
04:46And to Chris's point, like, who's it going to be tonight?
04:50Who's it's going to be somebody different on Sunday?
04:58Yeah.
04:59Yeah.
04:59I mean, look, Tobias was their number two scorer in game five.
05:01It feels like he's the guy to circle.
05:04He's the most likely candidate, especially with the series Duren's having some of the response headline for the Monday show.
05:11Pistons beat the magic, but prepare for an early exit in round two.
05:17Monday morning headline, history repeats itself 23 years later.
05:21Nate on 75.
05:24Headline, Duren gets his groove back.
05:28Oh.
05:30Headline, good little basketball team.
05:32Jordan in a shop.
05:33Oh, so I'm guessing that means they lose.
05:35Yeah, I would mean they lose.
05:36Headline, history repeats itself as Orlando loses its magic.
05:40Oh, that's cute.
05:42That's got a sense for the dramatic.
05:45I'm trying to write some of these down so we can revisit them on Monday morning when we are actually
05:48back on.
05:49And we can say what it is that the headline is.
05:53I could just hand you the sheet of the text.
05:55You don't have to write them down.
05:56Oh, no, I'm going to write them down.
05:57Okay.
05:57I'm not going to keep every text sheet that comes in.
06:00No, John is committing to carrying all of the text from today's show into Monday.
06:05So send them in 248-539-9797.
06:08Call into what is the headline?
06:10Call your shot.
06:11Are the Pistons playing on Monday?
06:12Are we previewing another series?
06:14Or are we doing an off-season kickoff show?
06:17It's 97.1.
