00:00I think we were all doing the same thing on the outside.
00:03What did you learn about the Pistons after coming back down 3-1?
00:07Get to the phones.
00:08John, you lead us off.
00:09What did you learn about this group?
00:14I learned that one of the things we wanted from Cade last year
00:18was a guy that could step up in the fourth quarter.
00:22And he did, but there were some missed shots.
00:25And he wasn't able to win the series for the team.
00:31And in this first round of the playoffs,
00:34a major step forward for him that he can be the guy
00:38when called upon for the game-winning shot,
00:41for got to have it in the fourth quarter,
00:43got to have it when you're down 3-1 and he goes for 45.
00:47And then you see the performance that he had on,
00:51when all the chips are against you on Friday night,
00:53and then again on Sunday,
00:57like Cade is, he's everything we need him to be.
01:00Averaged 33 points per game,
01:03seven assists, six rebounds,
01:05and shot 40% from three in his second ever playoff series.
01:10And his team advanced.
01:12Yeah, he's absolutely a number one.
01:15He's a Batman.
01:18I learned Tobias is a better second option
01:20than I gave him credit for.
01:21The dude dropped 30 points in game seven.
01:25He had 20-plus in five straight
01:28after not going back-to-back with 20 in the regular season.
01:31His game hit another level.
01:33He hit some tough shots to help Cade Cunningham.
01:36But maybe the biggest thing I learned
01:37is a tough team to kill.
01:40This is a really tough team to eliminate.
01:45Because if they play the defense they're capable of,
01:47they're going to force you to strangle them.
01:50And they don't go down easy.
01:52So I don't know what that means moving forward.
01:55It's only going to get tougher.
01:56Their problems are still their problems.
01:57But I just know they're a tough team to kill.
01:59And at 3-1,
02:01I was far too dismissive.
02:02Because this is not a team that goes down easy.
02:04No.
02:06They're going to be a tough out.
02:10And I need to look at Cleveland a little bit more
02:13before I sit there.
02:14And we'll talk about that tomorrow.
02:16Do we expect them to win the series?
02:18I was listening on...
02:19It's a coin flip.
02:20The odds are essentially a coin flip.
02:22Yeah.
02:22So I'm listening.
02:24Okay.
02:24I take it with a grain of salt.
02:26Most people that are talking about this matchup
02:29believe that the Pistons will win.
02:32But they're going to win in seven.
02:33Listen, what this series did was give me the belief
02:37that we have...
02:39We've got a mindset and we've got a personality
02:42that we can win in seven.
02:44Right.
02:44And the fact that that game seven
02:47is going to be at the LCA
02:48I think makes a big difference.
02:50Yeah.
02:51Again, we can geek out on it a little more
02:52as the show goes, especially tomorrow.
02:54But one thing that I do like is James Harden
02:56in the playoffs.
02:57I love being on the other side of that equation.
02:59What I don't like is Mobley and Allen
03:02and putting a lid on the rim
03:03and making it really tough.
03:04So it may be, again,
03:05one of these street fights
03:06that goes down to the wire.
03:08Yeah.
03:08But you learn this team is not going to go down
03:10not without...
03:11Not tough.
03:11Exactly.
03:12Let's go to the phones.
03:13248-539-9797.
03:15Stu, you're on 97.1.
03:17Hey, good morning, team.
03:19How y'all doing?
03:20Good.
03:21Okay.
03:22First and foremost,
03:23I want to say thank you to the Pistons
03:24for winning on my birthday Wednesday.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Secondly, my takeaway is what this team needs.
03:32A guaranteed point guard
03:34to help alleviate some of the ball handling
03:36from Cade Cunningham.
03:39A second scorer
03:41and Tobias Harris at the six-man.
03:45Those things,
03:46they can go far.
03:49Yeah.
03:49I mean, people have talked about
03:50getting a secondary ball handle.
03:51I don't know if they need a point guard.
03:53I think I want Cade making
03:54as many of the decisions as possible
03:56with someone to take the breathing,
03:59some of that room to breathe off of his plate.
04:01Yeah.
04:03Taking something off his plate
04:05certainly would be the best case scenario.
04:09Whether it is, hey,
04:09a bona fide ball handler, distributor,
04:12not a guy that's going to,
04:13you know, maybe he scores 15, 16, 17 points a game,
04:16but is a guy that distributes.
04:18And then it helps things with Cade.
04:20It helps things with Duren.
04:21It helps things with everybody.
04:23Those things aren't happening right now.
04:26So like you're not going to add somebody
04:28that's so like,
04:29this is the team that we have
04:31throughout the course of the playoffs.
04:32Yeah.
04:33Yeah.
04:34We're not asking.
04:35I don't know how he took what we're doing there.
04:37We're not asking like,
04:37what changes do you want to make to the roster?
04:39It's what did you learn about that?
04:40We thought maybe we're going to have
04:42those conversations today,
04:43but we don't have to.
04:44Yeah.
04:44It almost felt like a call we'd be taking
04:45if they had lost.
04:46Here's what I got to do to reset for next year.
04:49Now they're on to the next round.
04:50Yeah.
04:51Tech says,
04:54you guys are some of the most fluky fans ever.
04:58SMH says,
04:59especially Jansen.
05:03I didn't believe they would win the series.
05:05How dare you?
05:06I know.
05:06I said,
05:07there's a difference between belief and hope.
05:09And I said,
05:10I hope that they win the series,
05:12but hope's not a strategy.
05:14I didn't believe that they would be able
05:16to go down to Orlando
05:17and then come back and
05:19hey,
05:20they proved me wrong.
05:21I didn't think they'd win on Friday night.
05:23Yeah.
05:24I mean,
05:24both of us were of the same mindset.
05:26Yeah.
05:26Look,
05:26they had to go out and prove it.
05:29Yeah.
05:29If you want to call me out for being wrong,
05:31I mean,
05:31okay,
05:32not the first
05:33and it certainly won't be the last.
05:35Breaking news.
05:36I thought the Lions were going to beat Washington.
05:38I was wrong.
05:39Maybe that was,
05:40it certainly wasn't the first time then either.
05:42You dummy.
05:45Let's get to CJ.
05:46You're on 97.1.
05:47What's up,
05:47CJ?
05:48What's up,
05:49guys?
05:49How y'all doing?
05:50Good.
05:50How you doing?
05:52I'm doing pretty good.
05:53Hey,
05:53man.
05:54Well,
05:54I want to talk about the injury to Frowns Wagner.
05:57Hey,
05:57it happens.
05:59Minnesota was out,
06:00was without Devin Chinzo and Ant-Man,
06:04and they still got it done.
06:05So,
06:05it's just next man up.
06:07I don't even want to hear about that injury to Frowns.
06:09It happens to everybody.
06:10That was one thing.
06:11And then the other thing is,
06:12I learned that,
06:14which is Tobias Harris,
06:15but it's funny because I'm over to him.
06:17He could be our second man for the playoff,
06:19man.
06:19He's going to have to do his thing.
06:21He's going to have to do his thing and step up for us and hit the big shots when we
06:24need
06:24them when Cade ain't doing it.
06:26But other than that,
06:27we good.
06:28I think we're going to take it serious versus Cleveland.
06:31Yeah,
06:32look,
06:32he's going to have to hit tough shots.
06:34And one thing they've said,
06:35security blanket,
06:36safety blanket,
06:37whatever the phrase is,
06:38he's someone you can give the ball to,
06:40and he can shoot over taller defenders and make some awkward shots.
06:42He can make some tough shots.
06:45He had to for them,
06:46and he did.
06:47It's only going to get harder.
06:48Yeah.
06:49But 30 in game seven after dropping 20 plus down the stretch of this series.
06:55Right.
06:55The final five games.
06:56Yeah.
06:57And it's,
06:58it's,
06:58he has stepped up when we didn't think he could on,
07:03on a repeated basis.
07:04And now it's,
07:06Hey,
07:06things are,
07:07aren't going to get any easier.
07:08You're going to have to continue to play at that level.
07:12Let's get to Chris in Farmington.
07:13Chris,
07:14good morning.
07:15Hey,
07:16how's it going guys?
07:17Good.
07:17Good.
07:19I just want to say,
07:20I think the two biggest things that I learned from this series,
07:22you know,
07:23I don't know the ins and outs of basketball and I'm kind of a casual fan,
07:26but I'm just looking at it from a purely sort of athletic standpoint.
07:31This team has what it takes not only to respond well in adversity,
07:36but to find problems and solutions and adapt in a seven game series.
07:40And I think that's kind of the biggest thing that you need in the playoffs.
07:43And then,
07:44yeah,
07:44just to reiterate your guys's point that they're a tough team.
07:47And they can outlast you.
07:49And they're going to go down punching.
07:52And I don't know.
07:53It just seems like they are in game,
07:56you know,
07:56the second half of game six,
07:57they really just sort of figured it out and they were able to get the ball
08:00moving and scoring.
08:01And yesterday,
08:02it felt like from start to finish,
08:03there was a solution to whatever problem to whatever question mark was there,
08:08especially kind of early in the second quarter with lead changes and things like
08:11that.
08:12But they had an answer to the questions and they did a good job.
08:16Yeah.
08:16And you don't know until you're put in those spots.
08:18Like that's why people talk about,
08:20you need to get in the playoffs and see it and learn from it and learn how to handle
08:24it.
08:25Yeah.
08:26Last year,
08:26the biggest question mark after we lost to the Knicks was,
08:29okay,
08:30you got to the playoffs.
08:31Now,
08:31can you get a series under your belt and win a tough matchup?
08:34And they did it this year.
08:35So,
08:36you know,
08:37are we going to beat the Cavs?
08:38Who knows,
08:39but I'm confident at the very least.
08:40And I think they have what it takes.
08:42That's all I have.
08:43Thank you guys.
08:43And I think they have that confidence in,
08:45and JB said yesterday,
08:46he never for a second doubted they would win the series.
08:51He might be the biggest winner out of this.
08:53Oh yeah.
08:54I mean,
08:55not,
08:55not going down as a one seed to an eight seed,
08:57given his playoff right past.
08:59And now he gets a chance to go up against his former team.
09:03There's the absolute good.
09:04The team that said we can't get past.
09:08He's a good regular season coach.
09:10He's a roadblock.
09:11He got us to a certain point.
09:13He brought us from nowhere to relevant,
09:16but he can't get us to a championship.
09:18Now,
09:19all of a sudden,
09:19Hey,
09:20JB comes back and that last caller,
09:23this team is adaptable.
09:25Part of being adaptable is who's on the floor.
09:28How many minutes they're on the floor?
09:30How do you adjust a lot of that?
09:33Some of it comes from the players.
09:34Sure.
09:34They're the ones in the fight,
09:35but it also comes from the coach shortened his rotation too,
09:38by the way.
09:39Uh-huh.
09:40I didn't see Karis Levert playing down the stretch.
09:42You know what I'm saying?
09:42Like they really trimmed it to their best of the best.
09:47And now he gets to face his former team.
09:49Now he gets to face the Cleveland Cavaliers.
09:51Two,
09:52four,
09:52eight,
09:52five,
09:52three,
09:53nine,
09:5397,
09:5397.
09:54Trajan Langdon didn't,
09:55didn't really do much of the deadline.
09:56Wanted to see what this team was made of.
09:58What did you learn about this team after the first round advance against the magic?
10:01It's 97,
10:02one.
10:02one.
