00:00well that was absolutely absolutely heartbreaking last night at lca and um a lot of layers to what
00:08happened and culpabilities and blame and things that you can control and things that you can't
00:15control but um when it's all said and done the pistons are down three games to two
00:23they are many people think the series is over um the intestinal fortitude the championship dna
00:34the the things you have to go through to to grow as a team what you hope to be a
00:40champion includes
00:41adversity and it includes moments like this um it is it is as challenging as being down three to one
00:50it's as challenging as being down three to two and down 24 points in the third quarter
00:55uh but now a a gut-wrenching home loss uh where detroit didn't take care of business cleveland did
01:05other mitigating factors played a role and scott here we sit with a a test that i don't know that
01:13they can pass you know i don't know that they can recover from what happened last night that was a
01:17gut-wrenching gut-wrenching loss they can absolutely recover from it but will they is a different
01:24story i i don't know i it was interesting after the game i went down and caught the tail end
01:31of
01:31bickerstaff's press conference and then danis jenkins came out and danis jenkins the way he was talking
01:37it wasn't like he was uber confident but he also didn't seem like he was uber down like you know
01:44sometimes you could see teams are just they look defeated he didn't look that way it was just like
01:48yeah you know we have to be better there are things we can do to be better and even when
01:51pressed
01:52with harder questions about the nine point lead and you know he only had a couple minutes left when
01:57he had the nine point lead and watching that he rode away he's like yeah and that's not that's not
02:01good but we we just have to be better we know we can be better and i think there is
02:06still a quiet
02:07confidence with this team and i i certainly hope that there is because if there isn't then they
02:13have no shot but they do have a shot things are against them for sure cleveland's undefeated at home
02:20in the playoffs but you're undefeated until your first loss so they got to take care of their their
02:25business tomorrow night but last night was
02:32was criminal what happened at the end of the let's let's get to that later let's let's talk
02:36about let's first talk about the pistons culpability um well how about this we start off with the fact
02:42that duncan robinson didn't play that he was scratched from the lineup and that's a big deal it is because
02:48it forces if we talk about change and what is there going to be a panic change in the lineup
02:53are we
02:53going to see paul reed starting jalen durian on the bench no that didn't happen although paul reed
02:58played the entire fourth quarter in the overtime and and jalen durian did not play a minute um but
03:03you saw danis jenkins in the starting lineup in place of duncan robinson and danis was was pretty
03:11good last night for the most part there were maybe you know quarter and a half where you really didn't
03:15notice him but you know he contributed early to help get them that lead and get the confidence get the
03:21crowd going and it contributed late as well but i mean it starts there you you're already against it
03:28because your best shooter on the floor the guy you're counting on to knock down open three point
03:34shots is not available to you and you know herders available her didn't play much i don't even know
03:41if i don't think he took a shot at the look at box score but he did not um so
03:46it's all ready to
03:47start things off it's not ideal so yeah when you don't have starting from the beginning when you
03:53don't have duncan that takes away a player that that has gravity on that end of the floor in that
03:59he has to be accounted for the calves do not want to leave him open duncan robinson was his role
04:06on
04:06this team is to make life easier on kate cunningham we've we've talked a great length about how the
04:12three-point shooters when they're when they're on the perimeter they can't stack up as much against
04:17cade uh because that leaves a vulnerability there and you know you're you're three-point shooter even
04:24if they're one screen away from being wide open uh if they're going to run a double team at cade
04:30and and guard duncan that means somebody's unguarded that player goes and sets a screen for duncan and
04:36duncan comes wide open cade gets him the ball and he hits a three it's a player that needs to
04:41be
04:41accounted for on the offensive end of the floor and when he's not there everybody's job gets harder
04:47i'm not gonna whine about it it's it's good luck and bad luck and and they had some good luck
04:52in that
04:52mo wagner didn't play in some games in round one and not having duncan franz wagner sorry yeah
04:59not having duncan in in that game is some bad luck still had a damn good chance to win the
05:06game
05:06still had a damn good chance to overcome that and danis danis played fine yeah he was but it was
05:12very good but he doesn't command the the defensive attention that duncan does it's a different kind
05:20of attention the attention he commands is when he drives to the lane that team collapses all right
05:25because because he does like to take it to the rack um there were a couple instances there where he
05:31almost brought the house down with dunks one of them was called back because they said there was
05:35a foul committed before he started flying through the air right um and the other one he just i mean
05:41tried for a monster windmill that that bounced out and but pistons got the ball back and they turned
05:47into a three-point shot if i'm not mistaken so it it worked out but he he gets different attention
05:53but the spacing is what you want i mean because that's what you when you're watching as a pistons fan
05:57and
05:57you see other teams do what they do i don't know if it's just maybe it's because we're we're so
06:03invested in it with our team but it feels like every three-point shot that's taken is uncontested
06:09and other teams yeah the other teams when they're when they're taking it like cleveland's taking all
06:14these three-point shots and fortunately they're not a very good shooting team because all these shots
06:21are wide open and you ask yourself why are these shots wide open is it is cleveland just that
06:27good at at passing the ball around and sharing the basketball to get it to the open guy are they're
06:33that good at setting screens or or what is it but fortunately like i said they're not a great
06:38shooting team so they're not knocking them all down otherwise this wouldn't even be close but it was
06:43close i mean strews ends up with 20 points he's six for eight from three yep but as a team
06:50hits massive
06:51a massive three-pointer like it's the enormity of when they make him i mean you know the volume guys
06:57james harden was three for ten that's nothing special donovan mitchell is one for eight that's
07:02not good you know as a team they shot 40 why strews was six of eight yep and and and
07:08look as far as the
07:09stuff the pistons can control there are careless moments that need to get that need to get tied up
07:16like the i go back and forth with kade because people think kade is careless and and and he comes
07:23across that way but let's keep in mind kade's style of play when kade is on we always talk about
07:28how
07:29effortless he makes it look that he is smooth he is the speed of the game he's dictating the speed
07:36of
07:36the game he's the shape of water but but when when he gets ripped in overtime by strews it looks
07:45careless
07:45but that's just kade's style of play right i mean it's kade is makes everything look effortless but
07:53when it goes bad it makes it look like he's not trying right and you know we can talk about
07:57what
07:58the nba is encouraging kade to do is when strews reaches in kade you have to remember you have just
08:05been shot at point blank range and flail yourself into the first row of stands because that's what the
08:12nba is rewarding oh are they i didn't notice that last and and you know you talk about how you
08:20were
08:20disappointed in in me for not hating strews i don't hate players for being good i hate players
08:28for rule manipulation and being obnoxious those are the two things that drive me nuts
08:34james harden manipulates the game and if cleveland advances then we all get to see harden and brunson
08:41not run into each other and fall down and i and and it's getting carried away because i'm getting
08:50into the stuff that we can't control the stuff we can control kade is the centerpiece he's going to do
08:56great things in this league he's 24 it's his second time in the playoffs he has to get better with
09:02the
09:02basketball and he probably needs to take the pistons probably need to take some heavy lifting off his
09:07plate and and and you know this isn't new analysis but it is it is something that you know they
09:15have
09:15to get right moving forward and the other thing now is it is panic time and i think panic time
09:23manifests and panic time because they're running out of time waiting for jaylen duran
09:30and last night it felt like they ran out of time because paul reed got all the key minutes in
09:34the
09:34fourth quarter in overtime and it's it's at this point it's appropriate because they're they're
09:40waiting for jaylen duran jaylen duran went from being an exceptionally good player
09:46to a average ish player but he's helping you at one end of the floor and he's doing enough
09:52to warrant some time on the court so now he's a below average player the last two games
09:59and they can't wait for him like the best case scenario is that duran returns to all-star form
10:04and leads his team to an nba championship they can't wait around any longer can they
10:09no no they can't and there were a lot of strange things last night a lot of uh wild lineups
10:16that
10:16they had out there and you're trying to find things that work we saw marcus sasser out there
10:22okay he quitted himself just fine and you know herder was actually out there for a couple minutes
10:27not many but a couple um you mentioned that the paul reed got to play the entire fourth quarter in
10:32the entire overtime and jaylen duran was was benched i mean isaiah thomas isaiah steward didn't play a
10:38whole ton in that game ron holland didn't see a single minute um that's just a lot that goes into
10:46rotation decisions but the one that's getting less and less debate is is jaylen duran at this point you
10:52can't i understand wanting him to return and giving him he's gonna work his way through this
10:57blah blah blah seasons on the brink here yeah you can't wait any longer you're in an elimination game
11:05again but this is nothing new it's not new no they played three of these already this this postseason
11:12uh we'll get into the stuff that they can't control today at 10 30 but we're talking about
11:17what the pistons can control so you gotta bite your tongue for another 20 minutes well then then i
11:24think detroit's gonna go nuclear but that that's not the only storyline it's not no but we'll get to
11:30it at 10 30 it's karshan anderson 97 one
