00:00Cavs pick up the win in Game 3.
00:02That started the downfall.
00:04Yeah.
00:05Look, we'll do an autopsy on what went wrong,
00:08but I expected you'd get the Cavs' best shot in Game 3, right?
00:12Yes.
00:13And they shot their best of the series.
00:15Oh, absolutely.
00:16They couldn't, you know, they shot over 50%, right?
00:19Yeah.
00:19James Harden turned.
00:2158%.
00:21They were 43 of 74 from three, 38%,
00:27which was a little better than the Pistons.
00:29They made three more, you know, three-pointers.
00:31They took seven more than the Pistons did.
00:34And Harden turned back the time,
00:36turned back time and got a couple big shots late in that game.
00:38Yes.
00:40I'm not panicked at all,
00:41but let's get into what went wrong in Game 3, Stoney.
00:43Why did they lose that game?
00:46Simply, they couldn't get key rebounds when they,
00:48even though, you know, the stats aren't crazy about,
00:51you know, rebounds, all right?
00:54If you look at the box score, you say,
00:55oh, hey, they out-rebounded them 40 to 33.
00:57Yeah, but they weren't key rebounds.
01:01Look, it's, you can't even mention turnovers
01:04if you look at the box score,
01:05because they were completely even, 15 turnovers each.
01:08However, it's when the turnovers occurred.
01:12So they lost for two reasons.
01:14Number one, they didn't defend early,
01:16and they got themselves in a hole.
01:18They came back, much like they did in Orlando,
01:20from 17 down.
01:22And then, unfortunately, your best player,
01:25one of the top 10 players in the NBA,
01:28had turnover-itis with a triple-double.
01:31And he would have had a couple more turnovers.
01:33He would have had a four-double, whatever you call it.
01:35Quadruple-double.
01:36Quadruple-double.
01:37Four-double, yeah, great.
01:38Make up your own words.
01:39I love having you in.
01:41I mean, Cain is great, okay?
01:43He's a star.
01:45You can't have your star players
01:47make three bad turnovers down the stretch
01:50after you come up with a, you know,
01:53you tie the game at 104.
01:54The basket that we just heard,
01:56Struis from Blaha,
01:58like, it wasn't as bad
02:00or as, you know, damaging
02:02as, you know,
02:05Bird stealing the ball from Isaiah in 87,
02:08okay?
02:08It wasn't that bad,
02:10but it was bad.
02:12Off the inbound.
02:13Yeah, off the inbound.
02:14Then he threw one over Tobias' head out of bounds.
02:17He had one earlier.
02:19I don't know how he did this one
02:20where he threw the ball and the ball
02:21got stuck on the sang
02:24and hit the backboard, right?
02:25When they were inbounding underneath their hoop.
02:27Yeah.
02:28That was earlier in the game, yeah.
02:29Yeah, and a sore Thompson's telling Cade,
02:31you know, here, bounce pass, basically.
02:33You know, I, that, that's why they lost the game.
02:38They lost the game also
02:39because they couldn't defend Donovan Mitchell.
02:41Mitchell had a really good game.
02:43Harden had some big crunch time closeout shots.
02:46You have to defend in those moments.
02:48The Cade turnovers, three straight turnovers.
02:50How about playing Duren as many minutes down the stretch
02:53when B-ball Paul's got the hot hand?
02:55Is that not part of it?
02:56You're talking about key rebounds
02:57and Duren had four for the game.
02:58Why, why is he an automatic closeout player?
03:02Why?
03:02I don't give a damn about what he did in the regular season.
03:05I agree with you.
03:06I do think the Paul Reed obsession in this town
03:09sometimes goes a little overboard.
03:11I'm not Max and Paul Reed either.
03:13No, I know.
03:13You know, but people think that's the difference in series.
03:17No.
03:17Paul Reed had 11 points in a third of the minutes.
03:21He should play.
03:22There's no doubt.
03:22He should have played the last five minutes of the game.
03:24Yeah, probably.
03:27But, you know, there's other players too.
03:29I mean.
03:30How about Dennis Jenkins?
03:31Minus 28.
03:32Yeah, I know.
03:32He's coming off his, you know, the games at home
03:34that were really good.
03:35But you see this in the NBA.
03:36Role players play better at home.
03:37They struggle on the road.
03:38The Cavs role players, I thought, collectively shot better.
03:41Sam Merrill getting back in the rotation.
03:42Yeah.
03:43Well, you know what bothers me more than Duren
03:45for some strange reason?
03:47And I know the reason a lot of people are bugged about Duren
03:51because he played so good in the regular season.
03:52And everybody assumes he's playing for a max contract,
03:56which the way he's playing the playoffs, he should not get.
03:59It's Isaiah Stewart.
04:01He's been bad.
04:02And he said, I'm not hurt because people were wondering.
04:05Yeah.
04:05I mean, two rebounds, four points.
04:07He's only playing nine minutes.
04:10Yeah.
04:11That says something, right?
04:13I think with those three bigs, you're just playing the hot hand, though.
04:16I don't care who was an all-star.
04:19I'm playing whichever big is playing the best.
04:21Okay.
04:22That's fair.
04:23J.D. is still hopped up on Duren is my guy.
04:29I understand that.
04:30It's not the number one reason they lost the game.
04:32It's just it's one of the things that they need to do better
04:34is not be beholden to Jalen Duren.
04:38He's just not very good.
04:39Right now, you're right.
04:40Not in postseason.
04:41No, he's not.
04:42He doesn't finish as many layups.
04:44He doesn't finish as many drives.
04:45He doesn't get as many rebounds.
04:47He can't shoot.
04:48They are making it a lot tougher for him in the playoffs
04:51where there's not a lot of space for the alley-oops
04:54and all that type of stuff.
04:55His bread and butter.
04:57But if you can't adjust to that,
04:59if you can't make a four-foot shot, five-foot shot, whatever,
05:05you do not deserve a max contract.
05:08Or close to one.
05:09Yeah.
05:11What went wrong?
05:12Biggest reason they lost game three.
05:13We'll start there.
05:14Text coming in.
05:15Biggest reason they lost Cade, three straight turnovers.
05:18Unacceptable in clutch moments.
05:20It's not a good look.
05:21I mean, look, he said, oh boy, he had a triple-double.
05:24Yeah, 27 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists.
05:27But he also took 27 shots.
05:30He was 10 for 27.
05:31And then the turnovers, he had eight.
05:34Kate, I understand because they don't, he has the ball a lot.
05:38He's going to have more turnovers than probably anybody else on the team.
05:42That's fine.
05:43But it's, as the texter pointed out, he's right.
05:46The timing of them and some of the ways those turnovers occurred
05:50were just really bad.
05:52Game three, you look back.
05:54If Cade doesn't pick up that stupid third foul
05:56where he somehow got called,
05:57even though he didn't move his hand in the last four minutes,
05:59of the first, we weathered the storm
06:01and the game may play out much differently.
06:04I'm not going to the first half foul
06:06as the reason they lost that game.
06:08Or the fact that they wasted a challenge in the first half.
06:11You love that.
06:11I thought of you.
06:12Oh my God.
06:13What's he doing?
06:14The only time you challenge in the first half
06:16where it's a complete no-brainer,
06:19like a ball goes off a guy's hand or something,
06:23not leaving up to a judgment whether a guy got fouled or not.
06:26No.
06:26Agreed.
06:27Losing game three always made sense.
06:29Never felt like we were going to win,
06:30but by the end, it felt like they figured it out.
06:32And that's why I believe they will win tonight.
06:36Cleveland, look, they've, what are they,
06:395-0 at home in the playoffs?
06:40And winless on the road.
06:42Correct.
06:42So they're obviously better at home.
06:45I don't expect them to shoot as well as they did.
06:49So it's up to the Pistons.
06:51You know, defense is your identity.
06:53You can't give up 64 points in the first half.
06:56Mm-hmm.
06:57And you only gave up 52 in the second half.
07:00But some crunch time buckets.
07:01Yes.
07:0230, you gave up 30, you gave up over 30 points in three of the four quarters.
07:07Yeah.
07:08That's just not a recipe for this team specifically.
07:10Correct.
07:10To win.
07:12Uh, I'm looking over at, uh, the Twitch comments and, uh, they bring up, uh, Tobias Harris,
07:20D-ing up James Harden late.
07:21Explain it.
07:22Well, I don't, well, a sore had foul trouble, so I don't know.
07:26He was in at the end, but he would do a lot of in and out stuff.
07:29Yeah.
07:29They like to sometimes play him off ball as like a free safety.
07:33Yeah.
07:33And he can kind of jump in late as a helper or get a block or a steal.
07:37He's also their best perimeter defender.
07:38You could put them on Mitchell.
07:39You could put them on Harden.
07:41You can't put them on both.
07:42Correct.
07:43And would you rather have Tobias on Harden or Duncan Robinson on Harden?
07:46Right.
07:46Well, you could put Kate on Harden.
07:49True.
07:49True.
07:50There's different ways to play it.
07:52Yeah.
07:52But you just see, you don't want Kate.
07:55And I mean, it's not, it's up to him not to do it, but so many people, great players fall
08:00for that damn pump fake that he does.
08:02And you get another foul.
08:04Look, he played, he had a great game for him.
08:07I mean, everybody after game two, he's, um, me included, he's washed, he's done.
08:12He's Harden.
08:13Yeah.
08:13Yeah.
08:13And he played very well.
08:15You gotta give him credit for that.
08:15I'm just curious.
08:18James Harden in the playoffs is quite the track record.
08:20Oh yeah, I know.
08:21And I'm willing to believe that games one and two is more of who he is than game three.
08:27Probably part of why I'm not panicking, right?
08:29I don't think Kate's going to flirt with a quadruple double with turnovers every game
08:33they play.
08:34No, I'm not panicking either.
08:36I thought this was going to be at least a six game series and you know, I picked Cleveland
08:42in six, but whatever, uh, the, the Pistons could be up three.
08:48Oh, that's the, that's the thing that's going to say that that's the thing that's so depressing.
08:52They could have put the nail on the coffin, but you can make it.
08:54Everybody always says, well, they're home for game four.
08:57No, what happened like last yesterday in Philly is what happens all the time.
09:01Uh, although it was even worse.
09:03Usually teams down at home three, nothing, they get up to a really good start.
09:07The crowds into it.
09:08And then by halftime, as we get into the third quarter, they realize how impossible it is
09:12to win the series subconsciously.
09:14And they usually don't, but you make amends for it tonight.
09:17Yes.
09:18If you felt like, Hey, that's Cleveland empty and out the kitchen sink down.
09:22Oh, two, a hardened game.
09:23That that's not going to repeat a Cade performance.
09:26That's not going to repeat.
09:27And how about this?
09:28The Pistons shot at 17 more times than Cleveland in game three.
09:33Yeah.
09:33If, and they're plus 20 in shot attempts in the series, you're not losing the series.
09:39If you're going to continue to have that advantage, you would think not.
09:42And they shot obviously a better percentage.
09:44Cleveland did 58% to the Pistons 45.
09:48And, you know, you're looking for guys as we always do to blame and all that stuff.
09:53Uh, it's time for Javante green to get, uh, back to what he did during the regular season
09:59to text says tonight is a measuring stick game.
10:02I think the defense gets us back on track suffocating and the calves won't hit a hundred.
10:07We'll talk more about what's next for the Pistons on the other side.
10:10It's 97 one.
