00:00my head out of this uh sleeper tweet about the mock draft i i can't stop jeremy just shared
00:06maybe this is up sigmund's alley but it does mostly seem like this would be a waste of his time
00:11sleep sleeper tweeted so let's barrel ahead uh sigmund somebody has tweeted a picture from a
00:17notebook of what's called my daughter's mock draft and it's unbelievable it's like a bunch
00:24of characters from something called gabby's dollhouse uh herself her parents made up grandparents
00:31i think there's some frozen there's frozen characters in there i think too yes the food
00:36beefaroni sneaks into the bengal's pick in round two then there's a stretch at the end of round two
00:43they'll go stitch the human heart alexa like you know your thing in your house uh then spaghetti
00:50and meatballs and santa just some insane chocolate lasted until the second round chocolate the falcons
00:57steal chocolate and offensive tackle what is going on here i'm just glad sigmund started talking because
01:04there was a noise while you were still laying all this out that i thought maybe he threw his
01:07phone in a river no he knows of it that's even better not only did he was he great to
01:12speak at
01:12all but he knows of it he's seeing it or has seen it well i mean they don't call it
01:17the best time of
01:18year for football fans for no reason uh sigmund with uh work like this how are you oh it's great
01:24it is the most wonderful time of year you know i think this is new year's day uh for football
01:30fans
01:31and you spend it with the people that really love the game and i love the team even if you're
01:38just
01:38watching to see what your team does uh but it is a high holiday when we're pretty far away from
01:44the
01:44beginning of the season when we learn a lot we just don't know what it means sometimes for years
01:51yes yes and by next week we can argue about whether we have the right to even grade these drafts
01:56which
01:57i fully believe that you do i mean grading them in three years is pointless we all see the results
02:03but
02:03you know it's about it's about process right that's why we want to grade these things as soon as they
02:07happen well in fantasy football basically revolves around uh taking a stand on something that hasn't
02:14happened yet so i'm okay with that yeah exactly sigmund how we we've talked some in here because
02:19we're um i don't know how closely you would follow um you know what's going on in buffalo with the
02:25hockey team being in the playoffs for the first time in 15 seasons has got us kind of on tilt
02:29and really at this time of the year for the last i don't know 14 years maybe not the entirety
02:37of the
02:37drought we would just been like completely detached from the sabers in the nhl because they're not
02:43they're done playing here comes the nfl draft and sort of as part of that we've been talking about
02:47like is the draft is it a down draft are there just not that many great players is it not
02:52that
02:53interesting or is it us because we're not as invested in what the bills are going to do at 26
02:59or
02:59frankly what anyone's going to do at any place because we've got hockey in the playoffs back how do
03:05you view this draft is it is it a down year um or are we just missing it because we're
03:11enthralled with
03:12our hockey team we'll be enthralled with the sabers you know that was the best crowd that was a crowd
03:17reaction right out of uh you know european soccer hooligans i mean it was beautiful as a pittsburgh
03:23penguins fan about to mourn this era of this team uh i'm neurotic uh so i i please get carried
03:32away by
03:32that um you never know when you're going to get another chance right um but as far as this draft
03:39i think why people say it's a poor draft is that we don't have the amount of talent at the
03:46premium
03:46positions offensive tackle uh cornerback even the edge talents that are the top aren't you know it's
03:54not uh miles garrett or even maybe like a mario williams kind of prospect so there's not that
04:01alignment of the best talent and the best uh most valuable positions instead the singular
04:09players we have are an off-ball linebacker sonny styles the safety caleb downs you know even arvel
04:15reese is a tweener you know michael parsons comes to mind but there's a lot more guys that have failed
04:22to convert to a productive nfl player uh so and then jeremiah love of course the running back
04:28so it just doesn't but i'll tell you what's great about this draft if you're just a football
04:34thinker and you love not just football but the whole puzzle of team building and cap management
04:40um and how you win games what positions what qualities are important to win games because
04:46these are all very different players teams can't just be able to make defensible positions based on
04:52some consensus board this year teams have to take a stand of what matters and what's going to help
04:58their team the most with sigmund bloom football guys.com well not quite as eagerly as other years
05:06and the sabers point that bulldog makes is i guess part of this we haven't had as much time for
05:10the
05:10for the draft as before but not as eagerly as before have we sort of fixated on wide receiver for
05:17the
05:17bills and part of that is dj more having happened but it's still possible and it does seem like
05:23another draft where there are names right in their range and that's been the case for a few years now
05:28i mean jsn was one of these players once and right so was traylon burks and other guys you know
05:33but
05:33between and since you have on your pre-draft bloom 100 which i so love carnell tate mckay lemon
05:42casey concepcion jordan tyson right in a row this is among not just skill position players also defensive
05:50players where you there's a fantasy context but just in terms of the receivers sigmund can you tell
05:56us how you see the draft going and is one of those guys or maybe even more than one available
06:02going to
06:02likely to be available to buffalo no none of them will be available close to buffalo's pick
06:08um i especially after jordan tyson worked out but um there there's some diversity here carnell tate
06:15uh first or second off the board you know maybe as high even as tennessee's pick certainly
06:20washington is a team to watch for carnell tate and he's a winner all three levels uh he's a
06:25professional he's smooth mover route runner body control hands uh you know he's he's the complete
06:31package um i second off the board probably will be jordan tyson he could be first off the board
06:37amari cooper is a name that comes to mind i know bill's fans might cringe when i say amari cooper
06:41but you know he's a credible mover uh creating separation not necessarily the best contestant
06:47catch is not great after the catch injured a lot but he's the one that can win the dance contest
06:54makai lemon is amon raw st brown it's not one-to-one in the terms of comparison but he's just
06:59got that
06:59dog in him and he doesn't mess up i mean he i mean he's one of those players that you
07:04want him on your
07:06team when the game is on the line if that would be one potentially to trade up for even though
07:10he
07:10overlaps with khalil shakir and casey concepcion is similar to uh makai lemon as far as how you
07:17would play him but maybe with some more speed and the movement ability to create separation
07:22as uh as tyson um and with some questions about drops but there are some receivers guys that should
07:31be available at the end of the first round that i think you know because if i'm looking at wide
07:35receiver i think it's smart for them to be targeting wide receiver in this class either in
07:39the first round or in the third or fourth round and to try to get someone who can beat what
07:43josh
07:44palmer was supposed to be someone who can beat man coverage on the outside and hopefully add some
07:48speed and i think that's chris brazzle out of tennessee and if they just sit tight at 26 or trade
07:54out of the first round then i think that's a player they should target and a player that can help
07:58right
07:58away in three and four wide receiver sets do you suppose they should have decided by now that josh
08:05palmer is not going to work i doubt they have something they can count on it i just don't think
08:10they can count on it and and you know he this might be the last year looking at the contract
08:15this could
08:15be his last year on the roster and you're making a the nice thing about the dj more trade is
08:20you're
08:20saying we're pushing we're still 100 pushing for the super bowl so let you know let's look at this
08:25first round pick and say who's somebody that can get on the field in the playoffs and actually make
08:29a play that can swing a game and i think brazzle is one of those guys seaman can i just
08:34follow up on
08:35shakir for a second here you may remember like we think of you sometimes when we think about like
08:40shakir being drafted by the bills now a few years ago and you came on our show shortly after that
08:46draft said i really like this player i have thought about him i'm not sure if you would disagree with
08:51this i've thought about him when you mentioned the word overlap about a prospect that he he's good
08:57but he's in the way of certain things that they could maybe have the potential to do because he's
09:03maybe a little too good like he's on the field um and they also have you know the too tight
09:07end thing
09:08going that i think adds to that it makes it even more maybe challenging to put a top offense together
09:15because you've got a kind of a mid if i may slot receiver and then a first round pick tight
09:22end who
09:22has to play but doesn't play with his hand down very often i don't know i wonder i just basically
09:27want to ask you what you think of where shakir's at in his career and his value yeah i think
09:32that
09:32what we saw last year was and he was banged up at times but no he can't really shoulder a
09:40passing
09:41game on his own he's a complimentary player and like you said the overlap in terms of dalton
09:47kinkade is neither of them are on the field for their blocking ability and that takes in this moment
09:52in the nfl guys we're in a moment nfl where this is your zen co on a football you have
09:57to be able to
09:58run to pass and what that means is teams are going to overplay the path and you have to show
10:04that you
10:04can run that's why nick emanwari was so valuable because he gives the seattle that flexibility
10:08but uh kinkade and shakir don't really help out in the running game you know they don't get a
10:13chance to have a move tight end who can maybe throw a lead block on a run and be a
10:19downfield
10:20target so but that's why i think going back to that fall winter downfield with speed so they and
10:26it doesn't have to be brazzle you know there's a couple of small school guys trey lance's little
10:30brother bryce lance out of north dakota state has vertical speed and length at hearst
10:35uh i really like him uh as maybe a player who's moving up without a second round pick i don't
10:41know
10:41if they're gonna be able to get him but then there's these mighty might you know um there are
10:45some guys um i remember deontay hardy was supposed to make a big impact for the team why not somebody
10:50like brennan thompson uh you know somebody like deon burks maybe on the third day on the third round
10:57who isn't a full-time wide receiver but gives you vertical speed and maybe surprising skills for a
11:03little guy at the catch point with sigmund bloom and by the way if you didn't know shakir i guess
11:07just had ankle surgery or at some point in the off season i'm not sure i knew about that happening
11:12but that's another thing that was needed before we get back to prospects i want to ask you about
11:17one other player on the roster at this position and that's keon coleman sigmund like what what what's
11:22the way forward there is is there one because i i think if it comes together right for them
11:27and by right i mean they find somebody that they really like at 26 or maybe if they trade back
11:33whatever but they they use you know one of their top three picks assuming they maybe acquire a second
11:39in a trade down that they use something by friday night on a receiver that they will take whatever
11:45they can get for coleman is my guess yeah but we see like jonathan mingo uh got a fourth round
11:51pick
11:51in return um i agree with that because talk about a player who would be taking snaps away from
11:56somebody who could do more with it i mean i think that's keon coleman at this point and i i
12:02think
12:02that you know even trail shavers at this point is there has more to offer and uh i i do
12:09think that
12:09you find out who liked him and who thinks they can fix him uh and buy the idea that oh
12:15well everything
12:15went sour with the organization and that's really why we didn't see what he can do because i think we've
12:21had enough opportunity to see what he can do and when we saw a clip or there was something today
12:26that
12:27came out like the bill said we just want to trade out of the first i really just don't want
12:30to make
12:30this pick carolina said hey we weren't even looking to trade back in uh maybe they wish they had it
12:34because they really get uh but you know if you feel that way like you didn't feel that strong about
12:39guion coleman in the first place uh it's time to move on um concepcion sigmund you said pretty
12:47matter-of-factly that you would think he'd be available at 26 his over under at bet online is
12:52right around there it's 24 and a half so is denzel boston and so is omar cooper like other receivers
12:58who
12:58could be picked right around the bills pick if they wanted one at 26 they'll get one in that spot
13:04um concepcion though you don't think he has a chance to make it no i think he could make it
13:09but
13:10he just overlaps so much with khalil shakir boston is a player they could be looking at i think he's
13:16overrated um he looks more like alec aoman or the fourth round pick for tennessee last year than say
13:23um you know ted rowe mcmillan as far you know he can win at the catch point he does have
13:28length
13:28um he's not necessarily sluggish but you know he's not a dynamic mover explosive player so i i don't
13:38think that's going to be that much different than like gabe davis um but i do think chris brazel he
13:43has like a justin hunter uh you know um martavis bryant uh even george pickens that length but
13:52explosiveness and speed and the ability to win in the air uh you know there's like pickens there's
13:58some questions uh about off field and his game's a little rough around their edges in some ways
14:03but that combination of length speed and athleticism is what they need how about jeremiah love this is
14:11not a bill's question sure uh jeremiah love for you i mean i if i i told bulldog this earlier
14:18when
14:18we were talking about having you on just like you're really excited about him yes until the cardinals
14:25take him are you buying that are you buying that possibility here's what i'm buying here's what
14:31i'm buying monty often for the gm wants to trade down there are probably other teams in the top 10
14:37willing to trade down and teams that want to trade up are a limited number and they may not feel
14:42the
14:42need to trade up to number three and uh he is probably i'm guessing as a directive from the owner
14:50from bidwell that jeremiah loves the pick if they don't trade out of it and that's been stated pretty
14:56unequivocally in many places so i think this is kind of like a please someone save us from we see
15:03all
15:03this like please trade up with us so we don't have to take jeremiah love because the owner is forcing
15:07us to do it well you have many years at this it was laughable to me the way these reports
15:13from the
15:13insiders came out schefter still banging the drum here like he's still it must be what they're telling
15:19them that it's a real possibility we're going to take them unless you come up here and stop us
15:24yeah so yeah i don't know this has been sort of like an eye roll for these these sort of
15:29draft
15:30smokescreen kind of you know insider tweets well i think it's because owners can be manipulated i think
15:37that it's not the coaches it's not the gms it's the owners you get you get a meddling owner and
15:43i think
15:43that's what we're trying to see here hopefully the team avoiding the meddling owner which is not easy
15:48in arizona no i don't think it is historically sigmund bloom from footballguys.com let me be glad
15:55that maybe terry pagula doesn't have adam chapter's phone number yeah let's let's but maybe um running
16:03back two for you is whom i mean it is jim jerry and price but and he does have he's
16:10one of those
16:10running backs that just because he was behind jeremiah love doesn't mean that he can't be a
16:15starter also uh some running backs you know compared to like felix jones tony pollard i think
16:21that's fair not necessarily someone's going to change your offense or your team but certainly
16:26can add with his rugged style paired with uh straight line speed he hasn't been asked to receive
16:32be a receiver much but i i think that there's a lot to work with there um you know he
16:38still could
16:39fall to the second day and i if anything pushes him higher on the board it's that there's a pretty
16:45steep drop off after him to the next tier and guys i think we may only see like 10 or
16:5012 running backs
16:51from this class stick and out of them maybe like four or five that we see touch the ball every
16:56afternoon it's just not a great class i love this column so much it's it's 100 names and breakdowns of
17:05each player and not only is anybody listening to sigma now would attest to that it's like good
17:10information but it's also like there's personal information about the players that you talk you
17:16know several times about players who've had some serious hardship in their lives um sunny styles was
17:22named after sunny from the godfather bulldog right how about that important great it is important he goes
17:28up on my board for that um even though he had probably nothing to do with it i like that
17:33about him
17:33and it's also defensive players like styles because some people play in fantasy leagues where you do
17:38like matt schauf uh i think almost quintessentially idp leagues and so it's useful from a fantasy
17:45standpoint you know defensive players and also uh just it's a great read uh sigmund where are you on
17:52ty simpson oh i i think this is one of those like um let's make a deal you know this
18:01is the zonk
18:01all right uh well okay if he falls to the second day i will revise because then he will be
18:10treated
18:11as a developmental quarterback and he may get a few years to learn before he sees game action but if
18:17he's a first round pick again meddling owners of the cardinals trade down from number three
18:21and get a pick move back into the first round and take him that he's going to start him jacoby
18:26brissette
18:27wants more money and he's going to start same thing with the jets and geno smith and there's just
18:31not the structure around him for him to develop it's unfair he should have stayed in school you
18:36can use nil years to make money and develop so that when it is your time you don't mess up
18:42that
18:42opportunity i just don't think we're back to bill parcells guys i mean you need experience now
18:48we saw what happened with jj mccarthy somebody is making the same mistake if they take simpson in the
18:53first round i just i snickered at the reference to the zonk is what i was like not not it
18:58was not a
18:59man it was not mentored simpson but let's make a deal the one door door one two or three the
19:04one
19:04that has like a cow back there did you even get the cow did you even get the cow i
19:09don't think they
19:09made you take the cow i don't know if they have the option to leave with the cow i don't
19:14know
19:14um well you you tickled me here sigmund by mentioning arizona when i asked you about simpson
19:20because my favorite draft idea is for the bills to execute the jackson dart trade between the
19:26giants and the texans last year with arizona at 26 and pick up you know they they got houston last
19:33year got 33 a second and a third this year yeah and i don't even need the third next year
19:39i would i
19:40would do it myself for a high second and a third i mean just sign me up yeah and that's
19:48really guys i
19:49mean for the folks out there taking a moment out from sabers fever you want them to trade down
19:55you want them to trade down because this is a draft where there's a pretty steep drop off after
19:59the 12 to 15 18 quote unquote first round picks but the next pool of talent stretches into the 50s
20:06and
20:0660s so the bills should easily brandon bean should have a list of like five guys that he'd be happy
20:13with
20:13at 26 and one or two of them is going to be there in the early first second round uh
20:18and then you fill
20:19in that hole and the third round on your board uh you know that big hole uh early third late
20:25second
20:26and that gives you the flexibility maybe to get a second player from uh that big tier of second round
20:33talent guys like d'angelo ponds i love or even just with jim leonard coming in give jim leonard another
20:39pick to get a player that fits really well and what he wants to do chris bell one receiver name
20:45we have not mentioned played the baritone i played the baritone i played the baritone for a girl
20:51he played he played the baritone because he still wanted he wanted to go to football games even though
20:56he was cut so he joined the band as you write and i was in third grade it was late
21:02in third grade
21:03sig and the t the music teacher had us he basically was teaching us what the instruments were
21:11and i was interested in a girl and she picked the french horn and i wanted to stand next to
21:16her
21:17so the next instrument was the baritone i'm like all right one year of baritone eight years of tuba
21:23that's what that's what that led to okay you know that following the rabbit down the rabbit hole
21:30whatever that rabbit is and i was a trombone player uh and that's the clown of the orchestra
21:35so i found it well if i ever make the pre-draft bloom 100 you can use that story
21:41about well what we need to do is have the um football fantasy football all-star band like
21:47stephen king did with the authors we need to get a band together matt waldman could be the band leader
21:51yeah right he's a musician isn't he matt he is a really fine musician bass player saxophone player yeah
21:57are you podcasting at all tomorrow for the draft oh yeah with matt waldman and bob harris uh football
22:03guys.com over our youtube channel we'll be live uh having our football friends because that really
22:08that's what it's about like who do you hang out with on new year's eve who do you spend the
22:12draft
22:12with it's your best football friends because you know all possibilities are back on the table and
22:19the buffalo fans are getting a taste of maybe a pleasant surprise for once all right i'll be doing
22:25ship chasing tomorrow night so if you get bored just jump over over there but we definitely
22:29you know want to acknowledge their excellent work at football guys
