00:00Oh, okay. Debra's back. Hi, Debra and Hayward. What's up? Thank you for calling.
00:04Hey guys. No problem. Thank you guys for what you're doing every day.
00:08Thank you, Debra.
00:09He's been laughing. Can you hear me?
00:10Yeah, Debra.
00:11So it's not time. It's not time, guys. And this is why. A couple of reasons. You ran down the
00:17list
00:17before about if that coach is going to be able to do this, that, and the other, then it's no,
00:22we're sticking with Steve unless he leaves, right? Unless when he's ready to go. And I think it should
00:27be two years. Like Lakers says, it has to be more than one year. So it's not like a farewell
00:32tour type of thing. Now, having said that, if he does leave, Stotts is not my guy because
00:40Stotts does not have a great playoff winning record. I'd rather go with someone like Stackhouse
00:45who's been around. He's a big offensive minded guy. So for that, that, that part on Steve,
00:52then I was listening after that, uh, the game seven that we won on Wednesday, I call it game
00:59seven.
00:59Very nice, Debra.
01:01That's what everybody acted like.
01:03Yep.
01:03And I'm listening to all of these NBA players the next day, next couple of days commenting.
01:09And they're saying they'd rather, they're naming all these other players. And they said, if Steve,
01:13if Steph Curry is playing, I'm going to watch his game.
01:16Yep.
01:16So that's why you don't, you don't trade Steph Curry because he's still putting butts
01:20in the seat, which what you have to do is get somebody else that can shoot three pointers
01:25because I don't think we have anybody else that shoots three pointers. When they put it
01:29up, I feel like, Oh yeah, it's going to go in. So we need to get that person somehow and
01:33you don't trade stuff and it's not over yet. That's my 10 cents. What do you guys think?
01:37Debra, I'm going to buy probably all 10 of your cents because you made a lot of sense.
01:41Thank you. I still sit here and say, I can't give you the entire equation. I just know that
01:49my equation does not include trading Steph Curry. It just doesn't. It just doesn't. It
01:55doesn't. I don't think it ever will. I understand where y'all are coming from. If you're in full
02:01reboot, rebuild mode and you want to, you sort of look into that or talk to Steph or get a
02:09new coach or blah, blah, blah, whatever. But I'm a no, I'm a no. I think Steph has a place.
02:16I think Steph is still worthy of being the best player when he's on the floor. I think
02:21Steph wants to be here both next year and at least the year after he said as much on Friday
02:27night. I don't really understand the reasoning behind that. The only thing I can think of is
02:34if you get to the end of next year or even if you get into a conversation this year about
02:39extension
02:40and Steph Curry is completely demanding an absolute max salary slot and in some way, shape or form,
02:48you've got other action out there that that prevents. But I have a hard time believing that
02:55Steph would run it that way. Right. I'm not saying he wouldn't deserve it or not get it. I'm just
03:00saying
03:00if the Warriors were like, but we could get this teammate for you if you would just take 55
03:06or 50. Right. I feel like he would do it. I think he might. LeBron did it. I feel like
03:11he would do it.
03:12I mean, if he wants to end as a warrior and he wants to have one more bite at the
03:16apple, then
03:16he would be a fool not to do that because you're not going to be able to do what he
03:21wants to do
03:22without taking a little bit of less. And the whole idea about trading Steph Curry,
03:27I just want people to like understand how that would happen. Like, what are you going to get?
03:33And if you want to look at the list, like he's making 62.6 next year, which is the most
03:38in the
03:39association. Then number two is Jokic. I think the Nuggets like him. Then it's Tatum. Beyond that,
03:46it's Anthony Davis making 58.4. So do you want Anthony Davis? No. And the next year it's a player
03:53option for 62.8. The other one on the list is Giannis. So you'll do a Steph for Giannis.
03:59No, thanks. Joel Embiid. Come on. Carl Anthony Towns. Jimmy Butler is number 10. I don't think
04:07you can trade for him. Paul George. He's making 50. Kawhi. So as you run down the list, you have
04:16to
04:16go really far down before you find somebody who's just a straight up bum. No, it would be multiple
04:21players, but it just, again, it, it doesn't, it doesn't make sense. You can't do it. It doesn't
04:26make sense to me for, for multiple reasons. And what you're laying out is one, one of them. Even
04:31if you wanted to like actually do it or engage in it, you, you really can't do it based on
04:36what
04:36he makes. You're listening to 95.7, the game KGMZ FM in HD one, San Francisco and Odyssey sports
04:42station and the home of the golden state warriors and Valkyries always live on the free Odyssey app
04:46coming to you live from the laughing mug studios, Alex and Santa Rosa's next. Hi Alex. What's going on?
04:53What's up fellas? How you doing? Great. Yo. So I'm just calling in to say like anyone
05:00who doesn't think Kurt should be back, not a real warrior fan. Like I know you're always
05:05saying you get the fan. How you been? No, dude, this is my opinion. Anyone who thinks
05:11that isn't a real fan. And if you need me to explain that. Yeah. I'm going to ask
05:18nothing I can even do for you. Well, but what if I said, yeah, like I want, I want you
05:22to
05:22explain it, Alex. The history of the warriors, the history of the bay, like the struggle of
05:31the warriors. Maybe if you're a little on the young side, okay, I'll give it to you. But
05:35other than that, I mean, even weigh in on if Kurt should be back. And that's what Curry
05:41wants. And now I'm hearing people talk about, Oh, maybe you can get this for Curry. Maybe
05:47come on now. Talk about not being a fan. I mean, Alex, I think that, I think that you're
05:52talking to two people here on the radio who largely agree with you. I'm going to stop
05:56short of saying you're not a real fan. There's room for lots of opinions here. But even if
06:02we agree with you, like when, when I asked you to explain it, you started bringing up
06:07a lot of history. And I think that's a piece of this conversation. But I also think in the
06:12minds of some in the front office, that's the danger. The danger is continuing to run
06:18this team based on its history. There's no questioning the history of Steve Kerr, Draymond
06:24Green, Steph Curry. But I do think that the front office has a point if they're like,
06:30great, we want to acknowledge the history, but it does also need to blend in with the
06:35now. We can't do a retirement tour for two more years. You know what I mean?
06:39Now is looking pretty good. And considering all that Curry has done for the organization
06:44and the entire state of California, let the man do his thing for a couple more years.
06:52They have pieces. Make a couple moves. Yeah, no, I think they will. Alex, thanks. When
06:58he says now is looking pretty good. I think for a lot of people, 38 and 46 is not looking
07:03pretty good. And I get that. I get that. And it's not looking pretty good based on what
07:07happened. And you can look at the positives that may be coming, which is Jimmy comes back
07:12and boy, that worked well together. And who knows about Porzingis and the rest of it.
07:16But right now, yeah, it's not looking pretty good. You were the 10 seed. You were the only
07:21team in the plane with a losing record and you are out again and you're watching the
07:25playoffs. So no, it's not looking pretty good. But I don't know what the pivot is other
07:30than you've got staff, you've got Draymond. Can you get Draymond next year cheaper than
07:35he is? You can. Steph is going to be 62 million and he's worth every penny. And how do you
07:41work
07:41around that to put out a team that can maybe be good in 10 months from now? That's the challenge
07:47for Dunleavy. Joe Lacob on the TK show back in October of last year. Our guys pulled this.
07:54This is really relevant now. This is in October. This is the very beginning of the year. And
08:00they announced we're not doing an extension with Steve Kerr. So Kawakami talks to Lacob about
08:05it. Listen to the conversation. Yeah. If it was up, I know it's a hypothetical. If it's
08:09up to you, would he came to you? Let's do this for another year. You would be all on board
08:13for that? Another two years? Another three years? I mean, I'm not going to commit to anything
08:17like that. I think, I think I want to, the only thing I want to know is that the, that
08:23he wants to do it and he has the energy and drive and enthusiasm for it. That is a requirement
08:29I do need from him. I need it from my GM. I need it from everyone in the organization
08:33and including me. I need to be motivated. I need to be enthusiastic. I need to be working
08:39my ass off every day. And if I can get that out of them, then I want them to be
08:44here.
08:44Okay. So, and I like, I think that that's fair. And I think sometimes we, we probably
08:49heard that back in October and we're like, well, sure. Everybody's dedicated. Everybody's
08:54motivated. Everybody's doing their thing. But what he might mean by that is like, we're
09:00not just here because Steph's here and you want to be next to him. And you feel like you
09:08owe that to him. You know, that's one thing that I do think when you hear a lot of people
09:13say they quote, Oh, that to Steph Curry. This is just my perception. Joe Lacob's shoulders
09:20get a little tight when he hears that. I think he gets it. I think he's classy, but when he's
09:26running his organization and trying to win each year, I don't think he's thinking about, well,
09:32we kind of got to put winning on hold because we just, we owe it to Steph Curry to like
09:37ride
09:37out on his terms. Right. I mean, it's about energy and enthusiasm, which is what he said.
09:42And so if Steve Kerr is not energetic and enthusiastic, then I think Steve Kerr would be
09:47the first one to say, yeah, I don't want to do this anymore. He's not just going to do
09:51it and mail it in. I don't believe Steve Kerr has been in this league for the better part
09:57of four decades. And so he's been doing it and he was a coach and a GM and a broadcaster
10:02and a player and the rest of it. So he'll know when he's not that into it. And he strikes
10:07me
10:07as a guy who's not just going to do it for the check or for the esteem or for, you
10:13know,
10:13the flights and, you know, being on the road and being away from family. He's not a guy
10:17who just wants to be away from home because I want to be away from home. And I want to
10:21make $14 million a year because I love money and I'm not that into coaching anymore, but
10:26you know what? I'm just going to fake it.
10:28See, but this is why I'm with you that, that, that I still do believe this ends with Steve
10:32coming back. I think the things we're saying would offend Steve and Steph. Like the idea
10:39that it's like, yeah, we're just, let's ride this out. Wave to the people on our way. Cause
10:45we've done some really good things. So let's just stay next to each other and wear this
10:49uniform for as long as we can. Listen to the way they talk. They are competitive SOBs.
10:56Steve Kerr is the one who came on this show. And when we played the, remember when we played
11:01the caller, it was like, what is Steph coming back for us? What is the point of what we're
11:06doing? Listen to how mad, what is, what is that? Listen to how mad he is. That makes no
11:12sense to me. Okay. That right there, that's the voice you get when you question whether
11:17or not Steve is trying to win every basketball game he plays. What's the point?
11:23That sound like a guy that's just like, yeah, I didn't, you know, steps here. So
11:27thought I'd just hang out. Exactly. Rack up a few more wins, you know, climb a little higher
11:31on the all time list. Oh, I guess this has got to work out. You would figure. Yeah. And
11:37you know, Joe Lacob talked then and in this ESPN article, and I recommend everyone read
11:42it from Ramona Shelburne and Anthony Slater. It's the same sentiment, which is I need a coach
11:47with energy and enthusiasm. And I don't believe that Steve to my eye has ever
11:51shown a lack of that. Now you could look at a press conference and we talked about how
11:55he looked kind of tired in one. And I get that, but that's a press conference. And
11:59you know, you, you grind 82 games and all the travel and the back to backs and all the
12:03media and all the rest of it, you're allowed to be a little tired or a little bit bummed at
12:08any particular point. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. You ever get done with the show and look tired
12:14on every day? Yeah. Yeah. You ever look tired in the middle of the show?
12:17Uh, sometimes, but I try to, you know, ramp it up. How about before the show?
12:22Always before the show. Exactly. I mean, I get home at seven and I've got a three and a
12:25half year old who just wants to play and she wants to play hide and seek or chomp, chomp
12:30letter puzzle, or it's a game I made up. It's called chomp, chomp letter puzzle where
12:35there's a puzzle of letters and she'll dump all the letters out a through Z. And then I
12:40have one of her stuffed animals and I say, I'm going to eat it. I say, Ooh, I'm going to
12:45chomp a letter that starts with the same letter as your name. And she'll, she'll think about
12:50it. She'll go M and then chomp, chomp. And I'll go in a chomp, chomp, chomp. And I'll
12:54try to chomp, I'll try to chomp the M, but she always, she always gets to it before me.
12:59It's a chomp, chomp letter puzzle. It's adorable. Sometimes I don't want to play chomp, chomp,
13:04chomp letter puzzle. It makes me go, I can't believe that you're still doing this.
13:0857 years old. And I'll even like, lately I've been doing it. He cannot be that guy. Lately
13:15I've been chomping with orange guy. Hey, I'm orange guy. He cannot be that guy. I'm sorry.
13:19You cannot be that guy. Hey, I'm orange guy. Oh God. And orange guy. Red pumpkin. You let
13:24big Dom play with Myla? At times. Yeah. I'm orange guy. It's also my big Dom voice, but
13:29Hey, I'm orange guy. And orange guy. Hey, orange guy wants to chomp. Orange guy wants to chomp
13:34some fruit. What is going on here? I'm telling you a story Fitz. So what? It's a good question.
13:40It's not really a question. Stop. Would have also worked. Thank you. Let's go to Bleacher
13:44Dave. For the love of God. Let's go to Bleacher Dave in West Oakland. Hi, Bleacher Dave.
13:49Chomp, chomp letter puzzle. What are you doing, Bleacher Dave? What is going on? I'm trying,
13:56I'm trying to keep from jumping off a bridge, listening to the station today. Everybody's depressed.
14:02It's morose. Oh my God. Yeah. But it's a lot simpler when the Warriors suck. Um, that's
14:08funny. Actually, there's a, uh, yeah, there's a song that's got a great, a great line that
14:15I listened to about work. Like it was so much easier to have fun when we were a mess and
14:22we didn't have any money and I'm butchering the line, but you get the idea. Yeah, it is.
14:26It's a little simpler than it. These are some high priced problems, Dave.
14:31Dude, you look, that's right. What did they say? More money, more problems. I think these
14:34first world problems, man. I was looking at a list of Warriors coaches and running through
14:40the muscle men and say, no, no shade on say, but you know, a bunch of one year coaches because
14:47we just couldn't even really get a coach back then. And now we're debating options. We don't
14:51came a long way, baby. Uh, but I woke up this morning, Draymond, I hear a clip. Draymond's
14:56going, it felt like Kerr's last game. I'm going with the hell. Uh, then I'm starting to think
15:01about Bill Walsh who probably would have traded, uh, Curry two years ago and, you know, reloaded
15:07and kept it going. Right. But you're better a year earlier today. But you know, I think
15:12I'm like everybody else. I want to see Steph Curry play here as much and as long as I possibly
15:17can. Yes, sir. And that's probably irrational if you want to do what's best for the long
15:22term thing in a franchise. Okay. But Bleacher Dave, like what's wrong and, and, and we got
15:27to run and I actually want to play for everybody the comment that you just referenced, but, um,
15:33irrationality, there has to be some of that in fandom. There has to be, or else you wouldn't
15:39care about sports. There's nothing rational about caring about sports. Sit down with your remote
15:44control and your food and stare at a television, scream and yell about people you've never even
15:49met before and whether or not they make a basket. It's ridiculous. It's short for fanatic, but
15:56that's what we do. So like, again, I like rational. I'm a big fan of rational. I think that I
16:03bring
16:03a lot of rational, but there's gotta be a little bit of irrational. That's okay. There's always,
16:09there's gotta be some. Yes. There's always a rational in everything we do. And you know,
16:13you can go to the grocery store and you're looking for organic blueberries and they're all out and
16:17you're, you have to settle for the blueberries that aren't organic and you're all mad because
16:21you want the really special ones or whatever. But it's like that with everything. And the one
16:26that's been hitting me lately is people who complain about no wifi on the airplane in your flight.
16:33Like if you're that person, then you need to slap yourself because you're 35,000 feet in the air
16:40in a metal tube. Like check yourself. It's a miracle for what I'm doing. Totally. You're
16:47going to get mad at me, but you want to know the one that's bugging me lately? Will you just
16:50relax
16:51with the playoffs or on Peacock? This is what we're doing now. There things are going to get
16:57streamed. No, I get it. I'm sorry that you can't toggle. I'm sorry. No, I tweeted you. You're coming
17:04everywhere. No, but I tweeted it and just, I'm not that mad about it. All I said is it makes
17:10me
17:10not watch. That's all. Like if I have a choice between watching hockey and I can toggle or watching
17:18basketball when my team's not playing on a stream, I'm not watching it. That's fine. That's fine.
17:23I mean, I don't know. I'm not watching hockey. That's fine. But I'm watching hockey and
17:23Whatever the ball is in the league, so you don't think you're running there. You're
17:23You
