00:00I want to keep getting to your phone calls.
00:02We promised Draymond Green on the Draymond Green show.
00:05His response to the Joe Lacob email gate.
00:09Obviously a lot made of Joe Lacob responding to a fan email.
00:13Listen, Joe is passionate as hell.
00:15You're either going to love his passion or you're going to hate it.
00:17Whether you love his passion or whether you hate it,
00:19the one thing you do know is the most important thing to Joe is winning.
00:22And if it's not working, if you're not winning, Joe has a problem.
00:25And that's just how Joe rolls.
00:27It is what it is.
00:28No one in our organization is cracking from it.
00:31I think, again, when you've worked so long with someone, you know how they are.
00:35You know what makes them tick.
00:37You know what pisses them off.
00:38So I don't think any of us are sitting there like, oh, man, Joe said this.
00:42Quite honestly, Joe will say these things to your face.
00:44That's just who he is.
00:45Yeah, I don't think that this shook any of their trees.
00:48I just think that there were some interesting sentences in there.
00:52And I also think that, for me, when I said yesterday that, like, yeah, it gets my attention
01:00and it can be a little bit concerning, it's really not so much in the moment.
01:04It's more about later.
01:05And I've said this.
01:06I've been very clear.
01:06And I think a lot of you agree with me.
01:09No different than what many of you feel about Steve Kerr.
01:12I wonder how great of an owner Joe Lacob is going to be when Steph Curry is not on the team anymore.
01:18I wonder.
01:18Depends on what they do and what he does.
01:21Like, he'll still be good from the perspective of, I think, his heart and his mind are in the right place.
01:27But I don't think that he can be snap your fingers as maybe effective as he thinks he can be.
01:34Let's put it that way.
01:35I'll buy that.
01:36And it's interesting when we talk about owners, because if you're a fan, you want your owner to have a desire to win.
01:42And I do think that Jed and the Johnsons and Lacob, they all have that same desire.
01:49Now, how do you go about doing that?
01:50If you are in the NFL, you're hard capped.
01:53And so the best thing you can do is put good people in position and give them the cash to be able to have the cap be cap schmap, as you always say.
02:03So I look at Jed, and they've done that, where you have a contract that's maybe not great, and you rework it.
02:09You give a player a cash up front.
02:11That way you can kind of offset down the road.
02:14You kick the can down the road.
02:16And if you're in the NBA, Joe Lacob has done everything he can to build this thing up under the same constraints.
02:23He's been in the tax.
02:24He actually had the highest tax bill in history.
02:27And the Johnsons down the street.
02:29Well, that's an interesting one.
02:30And the one thing that resonated as you were laying that out is what he said a couple years ago about breaking even.
02:36You know, we're just trying to make sure we can at least break even.
02:40And so ownership, if you're not going to be a championship team, then at least make it so I can afford to go.
02:48Yeah.
02:48I mean, the Devers thing went a long way for me in terms of what the Johnsons are willing to do to put something good out on the field.
02:56Let's go to Andy in the bottom.
02:57Hi, Andy.
02:58Thank you for calling.
02:59Hey, guys.
03:01I really wanted to talk about the Sharks, but there's too much basketball to go there.
03:07When you played Steve Kerr saying, you know, I want to give everyone a chance.
03:12And he gave Will Richard a chance.
03:15And he was really good.
03:16Yeah.
03:17And then he says, well, I got to sit somebody.
03:19I can only play 11.
03:21It's kind of counterintuitive that everyone gets a chance.
03:25This guy gets his chance.
03:26He plays really well, but now he can't play because he's a rookie and there's too many guys.
03:31There really is too many guys.
03:33We need to make a four-for-one trade.
03:36And it's just too many.
03:37And it's so frustrating that it's been three to four years they haven't been able to get a big man.
03:44I counted last offseason, 21 big men got moved, and the Warriors didn't try to get in on anybody.
03:54It's not basketball.
03:55You know, Houston has six guys, six, ten or bigger.
04:00Dan and Tony, all these teams are huge.
04:03What are we doing?
04:04When are we going to wake up?
04:06Andy, I mean...
04:08When Steph is gone.
04:09Exactly.
04:09Thanks so much, Andy.
04:10Appreciate it.
04:11I want to go to Andy's first point about like, okay, you say you want to give everyone a chance,
04:17and then he plays well, and then he ends up on the bench.
04:22I think it's a dangerous game to play, quite frankly, which it sounds like some of you are asking for,
04:28which is if I put a player out on the floor and they play well, then they get more.
04:31Well, if you're doing that with everybody, now you're really stuck because that's going to lead to two things.
04:41One, it's going to lead to less continuity.
04:44A lot of you have been asking for continuity.
04:47If you just start playing the reward game, which is you have a good night, you back in again the next night.
04:53You have a bad night, you're next to me, sitting here on the bench.
04:56That kind of punitive behavior or like reward system, that's going to lead to a lot of ups and downs.
05:05And resentment.
05:06Totally.
05:07You're never going to get the continuity that you desire.
05:12Will Richard did look good at times.
05:14He didn't look like amazing, but he looked really good.
05:17He looked really good.
05:18And a lot of these other Warriors that are all in that sort of like, I don't know, the gray zone.
05:24They'll have a, you know what I mean?
05:26Even you Pods haters, he has good games.
05:29He has good moments.
05:31He hit a huge shot in Portland the other night.
05:34But I've also never seen Pods look seemingly great the whole time.
05:39There's always, that was a good possession.
05:41That was a bad possession.
05:42That was a good possession.
05:43That was a bad possession.
05:44So now, what do you do with that if you're playing the reward system?
05:48I just don't think it's that simple.
05:50Will Richard is going to contribute on this team.
05:52Steve Kerr, the way I read his comments were, we're searching, and I can afford to sit Will for a few days because he's a rookie.
06:03While we search, he may be a part of the final solution.
06:06He might not be.
06:07We're still searching.
06:07D'Anthony Melton is the guy who I think makes him more irrelevant because Melton is a better defender at this point.
06:14And he's not quite the same score that Will is, but you don't need either one of them to score.
06:19And he's a veteran.
06:20So if it comes down to Melton or Richard, it's going to be Melton nine times out of ten.
06:25That's a good point.
06:25The one that makes me scratch my head, Mark, is Gary Payton II, and I'm just looking here.
06:30He starts against Utah, 21 minutes.
06:33He gets nine points.
06:34You get the win.
06:35Then he plays five minutes.
06:37Then he plays 25 minutes.
06:38He goes for 19 in the win over New Orleans.
06:41He was amazing in that game.
06:43Then he plays 26 and a half minutes.
06:45He gets you 13 points and a loss to OKC.
06:48Three minutes, 26 minutes, four minutes, four minutes.
06:52That's the one where, and I don't even know if we should have asked that.
06:55Maybe next week we could ask about the Gary Payton II yo-yo.
06:59Is it just all matchups?
07:00But he'll play a lot and play well.
07:03He'll play a lot and play OK.
07:05And then he'll play not at all.
07:06Yeah, and you're right.
07:08It's a weird one.
07:08I don't know what the matchup conversations are like before these games.
07:12That might have a lot to do with it.
07:13I know that they really grind this stuff out in terms of matchups and a plan.
07:17And then they try to be ready.
07:19It's kind of like going out on a day trip with a kid.
07:22We're going to have a plan.
07:23We better be ready to change it.
07:25And I think that's what they do.
07:26Like, they've got their plan.
07:28And then if somebody's playing really well, maybe they stick with it a little longer.
07:31If they're playing really poorly, a little bit shorter.
07:34I think that's how they do it.
07:36That's my only guess.
07:38But, yeah, like, again, this all comes down to whether or not you want to hold the Warriors organization to the fire for the fact that they're searching.
07:47I don't.
07:47They're searching.
07:49They've told us.
07:50They have not found something that works yet.
07:53And the reason why they're searching is because the players that they have aren't good enough to be ironclad.
07:59Like, yeah, you're the dudes.
08:00And I don't want to compare them to OKC because OKC actually has 12 or 13 guys who all could play.
08:07And they're all amazing.
08:08But you look at this Warrior team, and you've got four guys who are ironclad.
08:13Pods is one of them, and you may not love that, but he's an ironclad.
08:16He leads the team in total minutes.
08:18And beyond that, you've got old guy hurt, younger guy maybe not ready, seven-footer who can only shoot threes, six-nine guy who's terrible on offense.
08:27And so you've got a lot of, like, pieces and parts.
08:31And this is not hockey where you can just do a line change.
08:34I mean, we can do this.
08:36Like, if you want to do it this way, like, they're searching, and you'll go, oh, there's been no cohesiveness.
08:42And I think to your point, it would be fair to come back and say, I don't know any players who have earned cohesiveness.
08:50If you all want absolute ironclad, as you said, 30 minutes a night, then you've got to go earn that.
08:59And I know what some of you are going to say.
09:01Well, Pods hasn't earned it, and he gets it.
09:03It's a fair retort.
09:05And I'll continue to say it's simply because of the position he plays.
09:09But also, if you've noticed lately, those minutes are going down.
09:13With Melton coming back, no, they are.
09:17He's had a handful of games where he's barely gotten to 20 minutes.
09:21That's true.
09:22So, again, I think this is true for all players.
09:26You want 30 minutes?
09:27Be amazeballs.
09:31Go become impossible to bench.
09:34That's right.
09:35So.
