00:00This is fascinating to me.
00:02Like, everything that we just discussed, doesn't it feel right now like the Warrior discussion,
00:10no matter kind of how you feel about all of it, it's revolving around Steve Kerr.
00:16He's the center of the discussion right now, is it not?
00:19Pretty much, yeah.
00:20Okay.
00:21And should it be?
00:23Well, I have no problem with that if it were actually a discussion.
00:27But it's not a discussion right now.
00:30It's a food fight.
00:31A little bit.
00:32I mean, there is the, like, Steve Kerr's got to go fire Kerr yesterday,
00:37and then there's the other people, which is, he's won four.
00:41He's not the problem.
00:42Leave him alone.
00:43So I don't even know if there is a middle ground in that, right?
00:47And there has to be.
00:48There has to be.
00:50Like, nobody is a perfect coach.
00:53I, like, if somebody wants to, you know, Guru was squeezing the sides of his head today,
00:58he's literally about to pull the ears off of his head because Jonathan Kaminga's getting DNPs.
01:05Shout out Van Gogh.
01:06And then Steve literally less than 24 hours ago was on our station kind of talking about
01:13why Jonathan's getting DNPs.
01:14Then he woke up today and he's like, by the way, we're done with the DNPs.
01:17And that has me scratching my head, not because I want Jonathan to get DNPs,
01:23but does that feel like somebody came in and said, Steve?
01:28Like, something happened between last night and this morning, it feels like.
01:33Why didn't he say that to us yesterday?
01:35He didn't say anything that even remotely sounded like that yesterday.
01:39So all that is to me, though, is curious.
01:42So we can have that discussion, but my God, I have never seen a multi-championship coach
01:52get treated like this and talked about like this in any sport in my 50 years of watching sport.
02:00I've never seen this before.
02:01Yeah, I was trying to think about the comp and, you know, we were in the green room talking about it
02:05and you can think about, I mean, even Boach, like he won three and then, you know,
02:09you got to the end, new regime, Farhan in, and it kind of felt like the writing was on the wall,
02:14but he didn't get like pilloried, he didn't get fired, he didn't get run out.
02:18It was a mutual parting of ways.
02:21Jimmy Johnson in Dallas, he wins two.
02:23And then, you know, whatever was happening, happened.
02:26And so he bounced and then Switzer came in and won one for Dallas.
02:30And so they got the three in a row.
02:31And so, like, you can go across all sports and all regimes and all eras of a dynastic coach.
02:39And have they ever been like straight up run out?
02:42Am I missing one?
02:43You and I sat there for 10 minutes next door trying to think about, forget like people screaming about it on Twitter or on the radio.
02:53Simply has somebody in professional sports who's won multiple rings been fired?
02:59I think Steining threw that question out there earlier.
03:03And I'm not here to tell you that it's never happened.
03:05I can't think of it, though.
03:07I can't think of it.
03:09And usually that's because even if they do, like you bring up Boach, there's Belichick,
03:13there are people where clearly the situation had expired, but out of respect, it's like by mutual decision, we're moving on or whatever.
03:24Can you, and maybe can all of you, can you help us?
03:27Can you think of anyone who's won multiple rings, let alone four, for God's sakes, who's been fired?
03:36So that's question one.
03:38I can't even think of anyone who's been fired, let alone had what feels like, at least on the Internet right now,
03:46people are marching in the streets.
03:48And so I would love to dig into that a little bit.
03:53I don't understand everything that's going on with the Warriors right now.
03:57I don't understand why their most athletic player is not playing.
03:59But when I listen to Steve Kerr talk, he doesn't sound like some sort of moronic, unreasonable, loser, jerk, favorite playing, bleep hole.
04:13Like, you should see what happened yesterday.
04:16Lucas goes on the 95.7 The Game Twitter page and says,
04:21Steve Kerr's coming on at five.
04:23What would you like to ask him?
04:24Oh, boy.
04:25You should read the responses, all of you unbelievably potty-mouthed, inappropriate, like weirdos.
04:37What on earth is going on here?
04:41We're talking about Steve Kerr.
04:44Is that really where we've arrived?
04:46I mean, honestly, a lot of you, and I know this, I'm only speaking to some of you,
04:54but this has gotten way too hot, way too hot.
05:00I cannot believe the way that many of you Warrior fans are looking at this and talking about this right now.
05:11And again, I'll bring up what I just brought up on the crossover.
05:14If you've got that much of a problem, call number 30.
05:18Right.
05:18He swears by him and has continued to this year, by the way.
05:24So I don't understand.
05:26You can disagree with his moves all day long.
05:29There's no issue there.
05:31I don't agree with everything I've seen him do.
05:33I don't understand everything, but wow, four rings, and this is how we're going to roll out on the back end?
05:40That's a lot for me.
05:41It's a lot for me as well, and it feels a little bit like two things.
05:45One, it's the new fan, the fans who have not suffered through the 80s, 90s, 00s, and the early 10s, where they were kind of a laughingstock.
05:54And the other one is the idea of what we do now in social media and commentary and even the Boxer and Gerson work injury attorneys text line.
06:04Nice job.
06:05You can just put in your number, and you fire away, and you are anonymous.
06:09And it has me thinking about Glenn Dickey, and I'm glad that Guru actually pointed this out at the top of their show.
06:15Longtime columnist, dead at the age of 89.
06:18When he was doing his thing in the 70s, 80s, 90s for the Chronicle, you wrote an article.
06:24It was printed on paper, and everybody got it on their doorstep.
06:28And that's the way it was then, and now you can be, you know, 510 whatever phone number, and you can fire in any take you want, or you can be some random egg on Twitter or Instagram or the YouTube feed or the Twitch, whatever, and you can just have these amazingly hot takes.
06:47You used to have to write a letter to the editor, and your name would be on there, and the town in which you lived, and everybody read it.
06:54So if it was like, oh my goodness, Mark Willard from Foster City is saying this about Kerr, your neighbors would know, your classmates, your fellow co-workers, everyone would know.
07:04And nowadays, you can just pew, pew, pew, you can just fire away.
07:07So, yeah, if you're a new fan, and you don't understand where we've been as Warrior fans, I get it.
07:13Go ahead and open up an encyclopedia, shout out Old Guy Reference, and learn about where we've been.
07:19Well, that's a, yeah, that's a great, and by the way, like, you're right, social media, whatever.
07:24Like, I know that's where all of the negativity really, really thrives.
07:30I mean, it grows like a disease in there, and I get that.
07:33But, I mean, it's not just there.
07:37It's not just there.
07:39You know what I mean?
07:41I mean, it's on, like, it's on our phones every day.
07:44It's on, it's in our conversations every single day.
07:48And I just, I find that to be, gosh, I don't want to wag a finger.
07:54Like, I don't want to use the word disrespectful and sound like somebody's dad who, you know what I mean?
07:58Like, that's not what I'm getting at.
08:01But, wow.
08:04Wow.
08:05Do you know, you may be able to get in a fight with, like, your wife, and, you know how, or if you're.
08:12No.
08:14Or ladies out there, you get in a fight with your husband or whatever, and you get in one of those fights where it's like,
08:19after a while you don't even know what the hell you're fighting about, and then you stop and you look at each other, hopefully.
08:25At a certain point, you're like, whoa, whoa.
08:28This is you and me.
08:29Can we back up a little bit?
08:31What do you mean we're talking about?
08:31This is Steve Kerr.
08:33Yeah.
08:34This is your four-time champion coach.
08:38And, yes, some of you think that he is asleep at the wheel of a car that has driven itself for 15 years.
08:46Great.
08:46If you think that, okay, I disagree with you, Dibs.
08:49I know you disagree with that.
08:5012 years, 11 winning seasons.
08:53So go ahead.
08:54Yeah.
08:54Do I think he's more important than Steph?
08:56No, I don't.
08:57By the way, neither does he.
08:58No.
08:59But is he a byproduct of having Steph?
09:02Of course he is.
09:03Yeah.
09:03We all are.
09:04And just this, Mark.
09:05Good point.
09:06They would have to go to 14 straight playoff series and get swept for his playoff record to go back to 500.
09:14Mm-hmm.
09:1514 straight.
09:16Say that again.
09:16He'd have to go to 14 straight playoff series, first-round ousters,
09:21where you get swept, and then he's now back to 500.
09:25This might be unfair.
09:26I know what you're all going to say to this, but here's what I'll bet,
09:29and I'm going to bet it right now on the air,
09:31and anybody who'd like to call in and take this bet,
09:33I'll put everything I have behind this.
09:351-800-BET-BET-BET.
09:37I'll bet you right now, the next coach does a lot worse.
09:42I'll bet you every single dollar that's ever been assigned to my name
09:48that whoever those of you want to replace him,
09:51whoever they replace him with, whenever he goes, it's going to get worse.
09:57And yes, part of that is because Steph Curry's going to retire at a certain point.
10:01Right.
10:02But I'll bet you, I'll bet you it's going to get a hell of a lot worse.
10:07Well, there aren't a hell of a lot of other coaches who have a winning percentage of 643
10:11who have coached for 12 years.
10:14He's on the short list.
10:15So, yeah, of course they're going to be worse.
10:17And the other piece of it, and I know we have to dip and come back,
10:21but if Curry decides not to come back next year,
10:25maybe Steph Curry will decide to not come back as well.
10:30That's who Steph wants as his coach.
