00:00Coach Hall in San Diego. Hi, Coach. What's up?
00:05Hey, what's up, fellas? Just sitting in traffic on the 5, man.
00:07I felt compelled to call in after the caller before last.
00:13I don't think as much of us being Debbie Downers is...
00:17I don't think a lot of our fan base is set in reality.
00:23Well...
00:24First off, we lost another player or a member of our organization to the Hawks.
00:27I remember when Chelsea Lane went there, and I was disappointed
00:30because I thought she was a very good trainer for us.
00:32Now that J.K. is there, I'm just happy to see him smile.
00:35I saw the same thing with Andrew Wiggins when he had his first big game with the Miami Heat.
00:39I don't think people are really paying attention to what happened.
00:44That punch shattered the team, man.
00:47It shattered the connection from the young guys to the old guys.
00:51And I'll never forget when J.K. posted, the vibes will never be the same after that happened.
00:56And that's what we're experiencing.
00:58This ain't Hoosiers.
00:59This ain't Boise State versus Oklahoma.
01:02Ain't no miracle gonna happen.
01:04Because when they key on step and double and triple team them in the playoffs,
01:08Draymond can't shoot.
01:09We've seen that from last year when he got cooked by Julius Randle.
01:14And the year before that, when the Lakers cooked him.
01:16And the year before that, when the Celtics cooked him.
01:18KP, we don't know if it's gonna be there.
01:20We don't have a number two option.
01:21We might as well just come to reality, accept it for what it is, support this team, and just enjoy
01:27the ride.
01:28We had a good one.
01:28Now it's time to re-bitch.
01:30Coach Hall, you know what's fascinating about your call?
01:32Like, I think you've got some interesting points.
01:35But do you notice, and this is what I think some people would say in listening to you.
01:41Do you notice that you just harped on the way Draymond, the three series that you just brought up.
01:48One of them happened without Steph Curry, and everyone will freely admit that he's not the same player without Steph
01:56Curry.
01:56If that bothers you, I get it.
01:58But that's the reality.
01:59The other two series that you brought up, one of them was literally the NBA Finals and they won.
02:06They won a ring.
02:07And so you can sit here all you want and go, man, he got cooked against the Celtics.
02:13Well, clearly not bad enough because, you know, we did a parade the next week.
02:20So, like, man, wouldn't it be nice if we could just find a middle ground here, which is what I'm
02:27kind of going for,
02:29and without doing the whole, like, Draymond's now an embarrassment, let's shove, you know,
02:35let's shove him in the back of the head and tell him that he's been a loudmouth for all these
02:40years
02:41and you're getting cooked by everybody and get up.
02:43He's not always getting cooked.
02:45He's not always getting cooked.
02:47He's beaten Wembenyama twice this year.
02:51Draymond indoses.
02:53Middle ground.
02:54There has to be a middle ground.
02:56And they are finding the middle ground.
02:58And if you look at his minutes and especially his minutes of late,
03:01that middle ground is being discovered, and part of that is you don't automatically just get to finish games anymore
03:07based on how you're playing and who we actually have out there and who we need.
03:11And I do think the Steph minutes, marrying his minutes to Steph is going to be the way they go
03:16going forward.
03:17So when Steph comes back, Draymond will probably play a little bit more than he has,
03:22and he'll play alongside Steph the entire time that he's out there.
03:25And that's going to be what they have to do going forward.
03:28But in the meantime, if Steph's not playing, maybe Draymond goes ahead and, you know,
03:33rests a little bit longer too.
03:35Like you were saying earlier, like, hey, Steph's out.
03:38How's your back, Draymond?
03:39Yeah.
03:39It hurts, doesn't it?
03:40Just, I mean, like, the Golden State Warriors are not so above reproach
03:45that they have to be the only team in the league that just does everything, like, above board and by
03:51the book.
03:51Why?
03:52Why?
03:53Just because they're a big brand and they've won rings in recent years?
03:56Why are the Warriors, they're like, everyone else is tanking, everyone else is pulling these fast ones,
04:02but not the Warriors?
04:04Like, yeah.
04:05If you're going to openly tell us that Draymond, a lot of his powers get robbed when Steph's not on
04:13the floor,
04:14then don't put him out there when Steph's not on the floor.
04:16I don't even find that that controversial.
04:18It's really not, and when you have a team that's this old, it's a lot easier to play the, oh,
04:24lower back strain card or, you know,
04:27calf management or, you know, Al Horford, he's not playing back-to-backs.
04:30We can call it whatever we want to call it.
04:32And Steph Curry's got runner's knee, which is basically knee soreness.
04:36And Chris Stapps has general illness.
04:38And so, you know that he's got an illness and Draymond's got a back and Steph's got a knee and
04:43Al's got this and DeAnthony coming off an ACL.
04:46You don't even have to, like, work hard to make these things up.
04:49You've got an older team full of guys who have been hurt.
04:53Well, and then you also can, like, pick and choose when, like, what happened earlier this month.
04:59There was no Steph, but San Antonio was here.
05:02Okay, Draymond can play in that one because he's probably one of the few people who can give Wemby some
05:09issues.
05:10Now, Porzingis wasn't on the team yet.
05:12I don't know.
05:13Maybe Porzingis would give Wemby some issues because he's almost as tall.
05:17I don't know.
05:18But you can play with those things.
05:20That's what I'm getting at.
05:22Like, be really strategic because the worst thing that could happen, by the way, is Draymond gets extra nights off,
05:28which is also not a bad thing.
05:30Right.
05:30Especially when you are in the spot where you are, which is you're four games back of the sixth seed,
05:36and you are nine ahead of the 11th seed.
05:38So you're basically most likely going to be seven or eight, maybe nine or ten, but you're kind of landlocked
05:46in that play-in below the line unless something miraculous happens.
05:50And, you know, you've got the Lakers coming up.
05:52That's a head-to-head where you could gain a game on L.A.
05:55So there's a lot of wiggle room in terms of the standings where, you know, you want to be seven
06:00or eight, as Mark Spears said earlier, and he's right.
06:02That way you get two cracks minimum at the play-in situation.
06:06But you're not at risk of being 11, and you're probably not a big threat to be six.
06:12My target is seven.
06:14The target is seven.
06:15You're two games behind the Suns.
06:17Dillon Brooks broke his hand, and Devin Booker is out for at least a few more days.
06:23Obviously, your star's out for a few more days at least as well.
06:26But there is a scenario where in the next week and a half, you are a very, very different basketball
06:33team than you are now.
06:34And the schedule is not necessarily the kindest.
06:38There's a lot of road games coming up, and you're hampered.
06:42But you also, if you can kind of work your way through that, once you get back home, late March,
06:49Brooklyn's here, Washington's here, you know, Sacramento comes here, you get to go to Sacramento.
06:57Like, for me, the target is seven.
07:00All for me, seven right now, I say yes.
07:02Yeah, and honestly, if you think about being two back of Phoenix, you're really only one back of Phoenix, because
07:08if you're tied, you have the tiebreaker.
07:10So I guess you still are two back, but you're not an additional game back, because you don't have to
07:15climb over them head-to-head.
07:16You're like a game-and-a-half back.
07:18You beat them three out of four times.
07:19So you know that if you can just pull into that tie, then you would host the game against them
07:24in that 7-8 play-in.
07:26I wonder what Phoenix's schedule looks like here coming up.
07:30They're hosting the Lakers tonight.
07:32Hosting the Lakers tonight.
07:33They get to go to Sacramento next week.
07:37That's adorable.
07:38That's adorable.
07:38Yeah.
07:39Well, actually, just a quick glance at Phoenix's schedule.
07:44They've got a lot of easy games coming up.
07:47Yeah.
07:47At SAC.
07:48Then they come home for Chicago, New Orleans, and Charlotte.
07:52Never mind.
07:53I'll take the 8.
07:53All right.
07:54I mean, you push for the 7, obviously.
07:56You push for the 7.
07:58You really just want to avoid being 9.
08:00Because if you're 9, you host the 10, and you win.
08:03You've got to beat the 7-8 loser, and you win.
08:06Now you're the 8, and you get OKC.
08:08So for me, it's about being 8 at worst.
08:11That way you can beat the 7, and you get the 7, and you play the 2.
08:15That, to me, is the only real—not that Oklahoma City is, like, so unbeatable, but I like your matchup against
08:20San Antonio a lot better.
08:21100%.
08:22100%.
08:23Although they're only two games back at OKC now.
08:25So there's no guarantee that they don't jump the Thunder, and they become the one.
08:29No joke.
08:29No joke.
08:30All right.
08:31Let's go to Angry Vegan in Richmond.
08:35Hey, Vegan.
08:35What are you doing?
08:38Hey, man.
08:39I'm just listening to the radio.
08:41I'm thinking some of these callers just—I wouldn't want to share a foxhole with them.
08:45I'll tell you that.
08:46It's like—it's not unlikely that we end up in a first-round series with the Spurs.
08:51And as you recall, we beat them twice in a row.
08:54I know Jimmy's hurt, but you've got Melton.
08:58If Port Singers is healthy, and Draymond and Steph are healthy, those guys are going to be insanely motivated to
09:04win that series.
09:05I'm not saying they're going to win the title.
09:07I don't think they would do it against the Thunder, but I give them a great chance against San Antonio.
09:13And the other thing that I'm sick of is this pods derangement syndrome.
09:17At the 19th pick, that guy has contributed to winning statistically every year, including this year.
09:24If you look at the advanced stats, every year.
09:27And if you look at other players his age, whether it be Josh Hart or Austin Reeves or Peyton Pritchard,
09:34he's just as good as those guys at the same age.
09:37The kid only—he was in college two years.
09:39He only played one year, really.
09:42Anyway, it drives me crazy.
09:44I think you got a fair take.
09:45I think the players that you just brought up there are much better than Brandon Pajamski.
09:49Agreed.
09:50Angry Vegan, thank you very much.
09:52But the first thing you said is right.
09:53The general take, I agree with.
09:54Yeah, he contributes to winning.
09:56And forget plus minus if you want, but you look at the three-man combinations, and he's at the top
10:01of the most productive three-man combinations.
10:04Almost all of them include pods.
10:06Yeah, the other thing is, and I've said this for a while, like when we sort of—when we grab these
10:14current young players on the Warriors roster and start firing bullets at Mike Dunleavy, I think it's a little unfair.
10:22I really do.
10:23I don't think there are a lot of fans out there who look at picks that are beyond number 15
10:29in the NBA draft and start holding GMs accountable if those players don't become stars.
10:35They're really not supposed to become stars.
10:38And if they can become rotational people who add to your team, and I would define at least a few
10:45of these guys right now, I would give pods that.
10:48I would give Moody that.
10:49I know he was inside the top 15.
10:51I would—like, Guy looks like he can add to a team.
10:54Will Richard looks like he can add to a team.
10:57I mean, honestly, I don't know that the Mike Dunleavy GM era has even really fully started yet.
11:03We haven't really done the full cycle of what that looks like.
11:08He's done some things.
11:09By the way, some of them have been really good.
11:11I'd acquire Jimmy Butler again if you could.
11:14But to me, the draft story about the Warriors is two top 10 picks, 0 for 2.
11:22And hold them accountable for that, for sure.
11:25But extending the story into pick 27 in the second round and all of these other things that we do
11:33is a little unfair.
11:36And those two top 10 picks were not Dunleavy.
11:39Correct.
11:39And that, to me, is the big takeaway.
11:41And Steine said this, and I would steal it, but I just gave him credit because he said it a
11:45bunch of times.
11:46But I think that Mike Dunleavy has earned the right to go out there and blow a lottery pick because
11:53he hasn't had that chance yet.
11:54And they might be in the lottery this year.
11:56We don't know.
11:56They might make it out of the play-in into the playoffs and be out of the lottery.
12:00But for me, it's kind of what you were saying there.
12:03He gets, to me, at least one crack at a lottery pick and see if you get it right.
12:08Because eventually, when Steph is gone and Steve, if Mike Dunleavy is still here, that's when his GM clock really
12:15begins.
12:15Yeah, and those lottery picks, they may still be years away.
12:18I don't know when they're going to get a top 10.
12:21It might be this year.
12:21It could be.
12:22It could be.
12:23Yeah.
12:24But it might not be.
12:25It might not be.
12:25And I do think that the Jimmy Butler trade is a great one.
12:29And, you know, the trade for Chris Stapps, the jury obviously is still out because he's only played one game.
12:34And right now, it doesn't look like a great deal because, you know, your biggest fears are being realized where
12:41the guy you got can't play
12:42and the guy you gave up is highly motivated, although I'm tipping off in moments.
12:48And I'm on the under 18 and a half points tonight.
12:50Oh, you went under.
12:51I went under his PRA.
12:53You got snookered.
12:5429 and a half?
12:55Yeah.
12:57Look, two things can be true.
13:00He may score 27 again and blow that PRA out.
13:04But at the same time, I'm in agreement with you, it's inflated because he had a high-profile, massive game.
13:10He's not always going to shoot 75% from beyond the arc.
13:14No human does.
13:15Yeah.
13:15And he's also not going to get, like, four dunks every night.
13:19Maybe.
13:19He's a great dunker.
13:21Maybe.
13:22And Washington is not going to be motivated to try to stop him.
13:25I know.
13:26Washington doesn't even go to that end of the floor.
13:29Man.
13:30I'm having some remorse here, some regret.
13:34No, honestly, I'm watching the highlights, and there are a lot of bad teams, not just Washington here.
13:39But I'm like, where are all the people?
13:42Where are all the wizards?
13:44The floor looks like the stands does at the start of the third quarter.
13:49I'm like, where are they?
13:51Are they there?
13:52Are half the wizards at the concession stand?
13:54I mean, getting a margarita and some nachos.
13:57Fade, fade, fade.
13:58Tanking is very contagious.
14:01Let's go to the great, G.
14:04P-D in Hayward.
14:07Hi, GPD.
14:07What you doing?
14:11Hey, gentlemen.
14:12Listen to you guys.
14:13I love you guys.
14:15We love you, too, GPD.
14:17Oh, my God.
14:19Man, you make my day.
14:22And with that, I'm just going to say, we're Warrior fans, right?
14:27That's the word.
14:30Okay.
14:31And this is the Warrior Station, right?
14:34Guilty.
14:36Okay.
14:37If I hear about Jonathan Kaminga again, it's going to be a regurgitation sensation.
14:46I don't care about Jonathan Kaminga anymore.
14:50Okay.
14:51And I'm telling you right now, guys, I'm actually enjoying this.
14:57I want to see them get their game in, man.
15:01This is the Warriors, and I, hey, I know, I know Guy Santos.
15:07I know, but just Moody, and Moody, boy, he's getting some confidence.
15:11You see where he's hitting those threes and the whole foot.
15:14Bro, I'm having fun watching the Warriors, baby.
15:20The glass is half full, and I don't care if they don't make it.
15:24I'm a Warrior fan, and I love watching them.
15:28They're doing, you know, you take the good with the bad.
15:31Let's see what happens, baby.
15:33Bang, Bang Warrior gang.
15:35Bang, Bang.
15:35That's the fast GPD.
15:38Got his own hat.
15:39I've got Draymond in doses.
15:41He's got Bang, Bang Warrior gang.
15:43Yeah, and it works.
15:44Grab and Daddy bringing it home.
15:45But we're only talking about Kaminga because of what he did,
15:48and he's on the floor tonight.
15:50And he texted Mark Spears in the middle of our interview.
15:53Right.
15:53Yeah, so, I mean, but, but, like.
15:56It's funny.
15:56I just got a text from Jonathan Kaminga.
15:58And it was funny.
15:59And then there's also this.
16:01I get it.
16:02GPD, I think, represents a lot of our listeners.
16:05Good Lord, we're done with Kaminga.
16:08Let me tell all of you, though, that there are also a lot of listeners
16:12and Warrior fans who are watching what Jonathan does.
16:17It's an unavoidable part of the story.
16:21Like, no, I don't think we all follow it the same way we're going to follow a
16:25Warrior game.
16:26But I think you're kidding yourselves if you don't think Warrior fans kind of
16:31have one eye on the other room, like, how's he doing over there?
16:36I can tell you this.
16:37When he made his debut the other night, it was the second quarter.
16:41I was already getting text messages from friends.
16:43They had nothing to do with 95-7 the game, nothing to do with anything.
16:48I had a buddy right away is like, uh, JK is bawling out.
16:52Is anybody watching?
16:54And so, yeah.
16:56Yeah, this is part of the Warrior story.
16:59Yeah, and it was part of it when Jordan Poole left, but it quickly kind of
17:03dissipated because, you know, Jordan Poole was not the same level of drama
17:07as Kaminga.
17:09Like, the only drama with Jordan was what happened with Draymond, and then
17:12he got traded.
17:13And, you know, you're rooting for Jordan Poole, but it wasn't like that was
17:16ever going to work.
17:17This one, people still feel like you never should have done it.
17:20That one was inevitable more than this one, I think.
17:23Well, and if it puts up numbers like this, it is going to be what I said
17:30yesterday.
17:30It is going to be egg on face.
