The K&C Masterpiece debated whether Caleb Downs and Sonny Styles make sense for the Cowboys in the first round, if Dallas got enough of a return for Micah Parsons compared to the Dexter Lawrence trade, and how different draft scenarios stack up in this edition of NFL Draft Overreaction or Reality.

00:00KFC Masterpiece right here on 105.3 The Fan.
00:04We're just three and a half days away from the NFL Draft and that Pluckers take over.
00:12We will have somebody at every Pluckers across the Metroplex on Thursday night
00:17for round one of the NFL Draft.
00:21And with all of that preamble, I feel like we should discuss some NFL Draft overreaction or reality.
00:27Or I guess we should also throw this out.
00:30Corey, I believe you will be at the Allen location.
00:33This is true.
00:34I will be at the Dallas location.
00:38And correct me if I'm wrong, Mr. Medford, will you be at the City View location or did I get
00:43the wrong one?
00:44You got the wrong one.
00:45That was last year.
00:46I am in Arlington this year with Lucius.
00:49So you're telling me that in Arlington you won't have a view of the city?
00:53I mean, you can see AT&T Stadium from there.
00:56See, there you go, Kevin.
00:56I just helped you out.
00:57Thank you very much for making me sound more competent.
01:00You're also going to be awesome, is what I'm saying.
01:02Oh, thanks, man.
01:03I'm going to try.
01:04I'm looking forward to that.
01:05Be there.
01:07Or else.
01:08That's right.
01:09Okay.
01:09He will hunt you down.
01:11You know what I would really...
01:12I don't know if that will work this week or this year with the shorter times,
01:17but I think it would have been really cool to see somebody try to get to all of the Pluckers
01:22in the draft run.
01:24Last year, a year before last, I was in Addison, and Rodeo Ron showed up at my place and then
01:32was like,
01:33where's Mike?
01:33And I was like, he's at a different location.
01:36And he was like, all right, I'm going to be here for a little bit.
01:38I'm going to have some drinks with you.
01:40And then I'm going.
01:40I'm going to get over there.
01:41And he did.
01:42He had a couple drinks, took an Uber, I believe, over to the next location, hung out with Mike,
01:47and he was trying to get to a bunch of different locations because he wanted to get a flag autograph,
01:52too.
01:52Okay.
01:52So I do like the idea, but it is kind of risky, you know, that kind of travel throughout the
01:57night.
01:58So be safe out there is what we want first and foremost.
02:01Okay.
02:01But also try to see everybody if you can.
02:04Yeah.
02:04Maybe FaceTime some people.
02:05I think that would be super fun.
02:09When was the last time you FaceTimed somebody important?
02:13Well, last time I talked to my wife.
02:15There you go.
02:16Nice work, dude.
02:17I almost fumbled that.
02:19NFL overreaction or reality?
02:20Except I have an Android, so it's not FaceTime.
02:23It's Google me.
02:24Technicality.
02:25Yeah.
02:26So if that's not the case, then I guess never.
02:30Overreaction or reality?
02:31Reality, somehow, some way, the Cowboys will get Caleb Downs or Sonny Stiles in this draft.
02:38Reality.
02:39Woo!
02:40You love to hear it.
02:41A lot of things are starting to shape up in that, like, to benefit you.
02:45Now, one of the things that I love seeing this morning, I know how much we love Downs,
02:51but I do love seeing the idea that there might be another dude out there that we've talked about named
02:55Stooks
02:56that a few other people are high on as well.
02:59Somebody just texted in, was that a Cowboys executive trying to prepare us?
03:03Oh, maybe so.
03:04Probably so.
03:05So we take Stooks.
03:05We like him, though, don't we?
03:06Higher than Downs.
03:08No, yeah!
03:09I would never say I have him higher than Downs.
03:12No.
03:12Ever!
03:13But I do think if you were able to get him at 39, you'd be very happy with the player.
03:20When it comes to the way that this draft looks like it should fall, I don't see the Giants
03:27trading out of either two of those picks.
03:30Yeah, I agree.
03:31That would be ridiculous on their part to even do that.
03:33I don't see them replacing Dexter Lawrence with either of those picks either.
03:37But I do see them taking one of each side of the ball to put them in a good position,
03:43which actually does help us even more than we thought it would.
03:46Because what they did was they took Cincinnati, who most people had Downs or Monsoor Delane
03:52there, and now you take one of those guys out of the picture.
03:57Now, Alec, same question for you.
04:00I don't care what it looks like.
04:01Somehow, someway, and I did see your mock draft.
04:04The Cowboys will get Caleb Downs or Sonny Stiles in this draft.
04:08Reality, because I still think they're moving up.
04:12I don't know where at this point, but I still feel like they're going to move up for one of
04:17these two players.
04:18The Orville Reese stuff, I'm not putting much stock into.
04:21I think I'm with you on that.
04:23One, because I don't see him sliding in the scenarios like Schefter painted where he slides
04:28down to five.
04:28He's not going past three.
04:30He's not.
04:31I'm here to break that news right now.
04:34Yeah, he's not going to slide past three.
04:36They're doing everything they can to get somebody to trade up to Arizona.
04:40Arizona hates this draft more than anybody and wants to move.
04:44Yeah, I don't know if the Bidwell family is lying in the pockets of Schefter or something
04:48to try to get some water to shake here.
04:50But yeah, the Cardinals do not want to make that pick at three, but they're going to be
04:54very happy that they do if that ends up being the case, because Orville Reese is going
04:59to be a stud.
04:59But we'll see.
05:01I do.
05:01Hater.
05:02I do think that you end up with one of the Ohio State guys, and I think it's via trade
05:07up somehow.
05:07Now, there was a huge trade that went down over the weekend.
05:14We were talking about, you were just talking about the Giants picks.
05:17They trade Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals for pick number 10.
05:21They also give him a one-year $28 million extension.
05:25The last time a veteran non-quarterback was traded for a top 10 pick was 21 years ago when
05:33the Vikings traded Randy Moss to the Raiders for the seventh overall pick and a seventh
05:39rounder.
05:40So, overreaction or reality to start off this line of thinking.
05:43The Dexter Lawrence trade proved the Cowboys did not get enough of a return from Micah Parsons.
05:50I think so.
05:52Because you talked about it.
05:55Dexter Lawrence had a down year last year for sure.
05:58Is that the start of a trend?
05:59Yeah.
06:00That, I'm not sure.
06:01You know, he's going to have a couple of really good productive years ahead of him.
06:06They extended him for one year for $28 million.
06:09He's going to have a couple good productive years, so he's going to be fine.
06:14But I just wouldn't have traded 10 because I feel like I'd get five productive years out
06:18of that player, if not 10.
06:19Now, the Cowboys did mention maybe that's not necessarily the perspective anymore.
06:24I agree.
06:26But with Micah, you did get two firsts.
06:29It's just that they weren't premium ones.
06:32And that's because you knew the team we were trading with.
06:34Yeah, you weren't trading with a team that would have those premiums.
06:37But at that time, that was the team that had those.
06:40Yeah.
06:41So, the Cowboys made the decision at that time based on stuff that had happened in that
06:47moment.
06:48I think there were some feelings involved for sure.
06:50Oh, yeah.
06:51In that decision to make that trade.
06:54But didn't...
06:54And now if you think, hey, if we would have waited until this draft, maybe we'd be in
06:58a better position right now.
07:00But...
07:00I can't help but wonder...
07:02You would have had to pay him or have him sit for a year.
07:04And you're right about the feelings.
07:07But weren't there feelings with the Giants right now, too?
07:10And they're like, you'll give us what?
07:12When did those feelings pop up?
07:14Probably more recently.
07:15And you think the Micah feelings had been there for a long time?
07:18The Micah feelings, they pushed through the draft.
07:22Because they said that it was going to be taken care of.
07:25The Micah feelings didn't happen.
07:26And I, Kevin, I really think, on Micah's side, on the Cowboys' side, those feelings got
07:32in the way at camp.
07:34Yeah.
07:35Whenever they were like, he's in his hoodie every day.
07:37Now he's wrestling with Trayvon.
07:39Now he's laying down on a bench during a preseason game.
07:42I think those had more of an impact.
07:45So, again, the feelings with Dexter Lawrence.
07:48He popped up after the season.
07:49Guys, we've been discussing this.
07:51It's time.
07:52And they're like, we're not doing it.
07:53He's like, trade me then.
07:54Yeah.
07:54And they had a different window to get the pick.
07:58So, yeah.
07:58It was poor timing.
08:01And you should have gotten more for it.
08:03Alec?
08:04Overreaction to reality, the Dexter Lawrence trade proved the Dallas Cowboys did not get
08:08enough of a return from Micah.
08:11Overreaction, the Dexter Lawrence trade didn't do it.
08:15I think we all kind of knew that the timing, like Corey just painted, the timing was off
08:20from the start of the Micah situation.
08:22You should have moved on it at a totally different time.
08:25So, I think that truth was already there.
08:29I think this proves that the Cincinnati Bengals are the dumbest organization in football right
08:34now because they look how bad their defense is.
08:38And that was just them kind of coping to the fans' complaints and to the coaching staff's
08:42complaints.
08:43Like, all right, fine.
08:44You want us to right or wrong?
08:46We're going to let Trey Hendrickson walk for whatever reason.
08:49And then we're going to go add another high-dollar defensive lineman.
08:52That just makes no sense.
08:53And then giving up a premium pick that, hey, if you plan on being good anytime soon, you're
08:59not going to have a top 10 pick again anytime soon.
09:01I would want to make that pick, like Corey said, and have at least five years of a potential
09:06impact player, whether it's Mansoor Delane or whoever you think you're going to pick
09:11there.
09:11You're probably going to have a stud player for at least five years.
09:16So, it just proves that the Bengals don't know what the heck they're doing at this point
09:20more than anything about the Micah Parsons trade, because I think that story was already
09:25written.
09:26Now, as a bonus to all of that, this trade over reaction and reality is actually a good
09:32thing for the Cowboys draft plans.
09:36With the idea being the lack of double-dip defense.
09:38Yeah, I think so.
09:40But I still think, like, if you want the one premium player, you have to trade up.
09:44And that's an unfortunate thing because of the way your trade didn't net you the premium
09:49player.
09:49Your trade netted you the possibility of using two of your picks and actually another
09:56pick also to go get another player like that, but two of your picks to go up and get a
10:00premium
10:00player like a Micah.
10:02Now, they did get Micah at 12.
10:04So, what the hell do we know?
10:06And Alvin Harper.
10:08Good for them.
10:09Probably less relevant.
10:10You know, so that's kind of the thing is that what you netted still kind of stinks.
10:16I'm just looking at the Bengals, Kevin Boyamafe, Brian Cook, Jonathan Allen, Kyle Duggar, and
10:22Dexter Lawrence are all kind of additions that the Bengals have made this option.
10:25Yeah, and I know there has been rumblings.
10:28Rumblings, like, I still don't think it was the right compensation, but there's been rumblings
10:33that they, probably a combination of, really didn't like the player that they were going
10:37to get at 10 compared to Dexter Lawrence.
10:39And they feel the pressure to, like, hey, we still have Joe Burrow, so let's figure out
10:43a way to go win.
10:43Yeah.
10:45For whatever that's worth.
10:46And what were you?
10:47You were the Cowboys.
10:48Sure.
10:49You were a fantastic offense and an inept defense.
10:53Yes.
10:54Alec, bonus question to you.
10:56This trade is actually a good thing for the Dallas Cowboys draft plans.
11:01Oh.
11:02I want to pull a Corey here and say push.
11:05Can't do it.
11:06Because I have no clue either.
11:08It's going to be good for the Cowboys if they take Jordan Tyson at five.
11:14The Giants do.
11:15Which I think is a very real possibility, so I'll go and say reality, and I'm just going
11:20to be optimistic here.
11:22My nightmare scenario is that both of your Ohio State players are being taken at five
11:26and ten now in Caleb Downs and Sonny Stiles, or maybe ends up being Caleb Downs and Mansoor
11:32Delaney, something like that.
11:34You get wiped out defensively.
11:36They double dip on defense, and they say, we're just going to have one of the most fun
11:39defenses in the league this year for fun.
11:41Why not?
11:43But seeing as the GM is having private dinners with Jordan Tyson and stuff and really trying
11:48to set the tone of, hey, we really want to help out Jackson Dart, kind of like you were
11:52talking about with Joe Burrow.
11:53It's like, hey, we've got the quarterback under the rookie contract.
11:56We've got to do something to help him that's going to line up with his timeline here in
12:01New York.
12:02I'm going to be optimistic and say that they take a wide receiver with one of those picks,
12:05and it does help the Cowboys.
12:08NFL overreaction or reality, and I feel like we've kind of touched on this a couple of
12:36all this whole time.
12:38By the way, we're going to have Jama Shodan tomorrow.
12:41He thinks it's possible the Cowboys only have 10 to 12 players with a first-round grade.
12:47Oof.
12:49Man.
12:50That sucks.
12:52Wow.
12:53They better have at least 12.
12:57What do you say to yourself whenever that happens?
13:01Yeah.
13:01You know, reposition?
13:02Like, I'm just, I don't know what I would be saying in that room if we're all running.
13:07If we're all running this, I just don't know exactly what I'd be saying in the room if
13:12I went, guys, how the hell did we only end up with 10?
13:16And they're like, well, some guys stuck around for another year of college because there's
13:19so much money there.
13:20Yeah.
13:21And they're like, well, how do we not know that?
13:23And heads are going to roll.
13:25I would say that three times a week.
13:28Heads are going to roll, and people freak out, and they'd be like, oh, no, what's going
13:31to happen?
13:32Yeah, I think that a lot of people, Choppy said this morning he'd be, like, happier with
13:4024, 29, and 39 than one player in the first round.
13:45Interesting.
13:46Because that's where the value is in that chunk right there.
13:49The value is a little lower.
13:51Now, I want to have a premium player, like Target has premium chocolate.
13:57I want to have a premium player.
13:58I want to have really good players from there on.
14:01And that's where I'm looking at that second and third round and what you can do with 20
14:06to make that happen.
14:08Alex, same to you.
14:09The NFL does not like this draft class, especially in the first round.
14:13Absolute reality.
14:14They are miserable.
14:15This is not a fun class for day one.
14:18It just never was going to be.
14:21You really needed some of these guys like Garrett Nussmeyer to play a lot better this past season
14:26to really cement themselves in the conversation to make the top 10 a little bit more interesting.
14:31But I'm just wondering how some of these guys like CJ Allen and the linebackers and corners
14:37that are not the top names, I wonder how they feel.
14:40You know, seeing people say, eh, incredible value, just not where everybody thinks they should go.
14:46Like, I would be kind of irritated.
14:48Like, I'm a good player.
14:49Why does everybody keep on slapping this day two tag on me when clearly I'm probably the third best at
14:56my position
14:57and I'm only a day two pick?
14:59This is incredible.
15:00It's a rough class.
15:01It really is.
15:03Somebody asked this, and I think it's a good conversation for a little later in the show if we can.
15:08Okay.
15:08So stick around for the answer.
15:09What would it take to get five and ten from the Giants?
15:12And as far as five goes, I think that's another conversation I'd like to have later on.
15:17Oh, Alec, what do you got?
15:20We have breaking news for the Dallas Cowboys.
15:22There's a new highest paid kicker in the NFL.
15:26Brandon Aubrey has received a four-year, $28 million contract with $20 million guaranteed.
15:33Wow.
15:34According to Ian Rappaport.
15:36Man.
15:37Hooray.
15:38So, oh, man.
15:39So a far cry from the $10 million that at one point got floated around,
15:46but at $7 million, I think this will end up being a good deal,
15:49especially with all that guaranteed money for a kicker.
15:52Wow.
15:53But, Corey, are you sad because you thought it had just gotten brought up?
15:57What would it take to get five and ten?
15:59And then Alec goes breaking news.
16:00I have breaking news!
16:02I'm like, yes!
16:02There was a half a second, Alec, where I thought,
16:06oh, my God, did Corey bring that up?
16:08Because he had just seen something happen, and then you went to breaking news.
16:14But that was not the breaking news.
16:15That was kind of like the Angel Reast trade for me.
