01:40each Christmas Eve we gather in this double Greek revival inspired drawing room it is Greek revival because of the
01:49baseless fluted Sicilian columns to infuse this room with the spirit of the holiday my partner Constantino has decorated the
01:59mantelpiece
01:59place golden wreaths place golden wreaths below each sconce and place festive flowers in the bouquet now please follow me
02:09to what we call the South drawing room
02:16the South drawing room best illustrates Constantino's fantastic contribution to the Christmas decoration this full arrangement is magnificent
02:29we decorate all the chandeliers we decorate all the chandeliers in the apartment this one with a wise owl but
02:36the most interesting aspect of this room is the statue of the psyche of Capri most holidays the bells are
02:44rung the doors to the dining room are open and we walk in to the festive holiday table
02:54the holidays are a wonderful time to display cherished items such as this sterling silver cash po on the windows
03:02or the gilded decoration we placed in this Greek statue and of course lanterns provide a super opportunity for holiday
03:11decoration
03:15the living room is the center of our holiday activities our Christmas tree with decorations that come from all over

04:09happy holidays you two coming up getting festive at this ranch style home we'll be right back
04:24welcome back everyone now with interior designer Blanche Garcia at her modern ranch style home in Little Falls New Jersey
04:31we see how Blanche celebrated nature with elements from her garden and centered it all around a grand tree oh
04:39I love a Christmas tree enjoy
04:45hi I'm interior designer Blanche Garcia welcome to our family home and here's how we decorate for the holidays
04:51our home is a modern one level mid-century ranch we actually scoured the earth to find one and we
04:58knocked down all of the walls to create an open concept
05:01space space for entertaining come on in and let me show you what I mean
05:08so the first thing you're going to notice is this centrally located tree it's right under the skylight and really
05:13brings in the natural light and highlights the tree beautifully
05:16so some of the ornaments that you will notice are a lot of the handmade paper snowflakes that are on
05:22the beams or even up above the tree
05:24handmade by my daughter myself or my husband everything to me really needs to feel very bespoke very natural
05:31and just have a fun vibe even though the tree is center as soon as you walk into the space
05:36it's all about layering and creating a comfortable zone for conversation and unwrapping gifts
05:41right underneath me are a mix of sheepskin and some of them have been dyed purple and eggplant and gray
05:47and also the layering of the rugs really is about texture and just pattern and bringing in a support system
05:54to really the main feature which is the tree
06:02next I'm going to take you to one of my favorite favorite elements of the home which is the tablescape
06:07I think every designer loves a good tablescape and mine is no different and I love the color that we
06:14use here we brought in a lot of the fun elements as well as well as the
06:17in kind of candy and cookies and cupcakes and a lot of the natural elements like the pine tree branches
06:25and the pine cones etc you're going to see interwoven throughout the whole home so we have it on artwork
06:31we have it over windows and just as centerpieces I really love to bring nature indoors if I could I'd
06:39have the deer literally inside my house of course my husband would hate it but more is more when it
06:44comes to nature
06:51this fireplace feature is very much in keeping with mid-century modern architecture I definitely wanted white brick but what
07:00I really love about this fireplace is that it creates the perfect backdrop for the holiday season not only do
07:06we have these hand-blown Italian made sconces but we brought in that natural element again with those pine trees
07:13and we finish it off with a
07:15festive holiday stocking with these festive holiday stockings one for each member of the family we have a B for
07:20Blanche an E for Ever an S for Sean and we even have a cute little sock for our new
07:25puppy Miss Rory Sparkle
07:32thank you for taking a tour along with me and maybe you got some inspiration for some of the DIY
07:39tips that you and your family can do at home thank you and we'll see you next time
07:46coming up just after the break thinking of taking a trip for the holidays well have I got an idea
07:51for you don't go anywhere
08:01welcome back everyone it's the holidays so why not take a trip to where history meets breathtaking beauty a little
08:08something for everyone Scotland has it all and every visit
08:12feels like an escape especially when it involves a luxury hotel now we're visiting Cromlex owned by tennis legend Andy
08:21Murray and his wife Kim originally built as a Victorian country mansion near Dunblane it's now a five-star retreat
08:28that gracefully blends natural beauty and refined luxury take it away Kim
08:37hello I'm Kim Murray and welcome to Cromlex it's our family owned hotel that we've had for the last 12
08:43years or so it's set in this Victorian mansion building that was once a family home dates back to about
08:48the 1800s and we've restored it and renovated it and we've put so much love and care into it it's
08:53very much our home from home up here and I can't wait to show you around inside but first we've
08:58got some very important friends to feed
09:04We've always had chickens here at Cromlex it's something I love them personally I've always grown up with them it's
09:09just lovely to have them free ranging roaming around the grounds I think guests love it it's a lovely point
09:13of interaction for them
09:19Of course being a Murray household we've got one of these
09:24It's a lovely asset that we're very lucky to have here and the guests certainly seem to enjoy it and
09:29we love seeing it in use when the Scottish weather allows
09:35The gardens and the grounds are a huge part of the experience here at Cromlex it's something that I'm really
09:40passionate about and this kitchen garden was one of the first things that we put in when we bought the
09:44place I love the relationship between the garden and the kitchen and trying to source whatever we can here to
09:51use in there and that's where our executive head chef James comes in and you work closely don't you with
09:55the gardening team in terms of planning menus and utilising everything that we can inside
10:00Yeah absolutely so seasonal cooking is incredibly important to me something very passionate about and so really it is a
10:07dream that we are able to come down to the gardens here and pick things and serve them at their
10:12absolute freshest and best and really celebrate that to our guests and these will be used across the kitchen for
10:19our dishes
10:25Let me show you the interiors first up the reception
10:30So this is where all our guests receive a warm welcome when they arrive at the hotel it's usually always
10:36got a roaring fire going but I love it because it's so warm and inviting
10:40We've retained all the period features and enhanced them with bold colour choices and props of vibrant upholstery and we've
10:47always got a smiling member of staff ready to welcome everyone at the start of their Cromlex journey
10:56This is our garden entrance which used to be the reception to the hotel but we've switched things around
11:00It's a really integral space it sits at the heart of the building and connects our two dining areas and
11:05our bar so guests are coming and going all the time
11:08I was really keen on adding a piano I just love the sound of music but I think it just
11:12adds to this room which I love
11:14It's got so many original features that we've accentuated with really bold interiors and we've also put some of our
11:20favourite pieces of art on the wall
11:21So these are two of our newest David Shrigley's we've actually only just hung them he's one of our favourite
11:27artists we've got quite a few pieces of his hanging here in this room
11:30I just love them and the colours as well and they really stamp out from this lovely red wall
11:40And this is our billiards room which has always been one of our favourite rooms in the hotel
11:44I really wanted to create this as a space that was fun and interesting and was a talking point for
11:50guests
11:50Whether it's a place that guests can gather to enjoy a drink before dinner or to have a nice game
11:55of snooker
11:56Afterwards it's just a place for people to come together
11:59And the jars of sweets are always very popular with our guests
12:08Welcome to our hyssop suite, it's one of my favourites
12:11This is the suite's lovely sitting room, I absolutely adore this room, it's so cosy
12:16We've got really botanical inspired wallpaper like a lot of the rooms here
12:20We painted the fireplace green to emphasise those period features
12:23And like every room in the hotel we have finished it off with some of Andy's granny's very famous shortbread
12:32This is our gorgeous turret suite bedroom
12:34I absolutely love this room, like all our rooms in the hotel it's individually designed
12:38The colour scheme is so airy but so warm and indulgent at the same time
12:43And the textures and fabrics we've managed to bring in here are really sumptuous
12:46For that extra princessy feel we've got this amazing turret window
12:51Which we've kept as an original feature and we've highlighted with this lovely window seat
13:02I've absolutely loved showing you around Chromix today and we really hope to welcome you here soon
13:09Well thanks for the tour Kim, I definitely have to make it over there someday
13:12It looks so beautiful, save me a room please
13:15Alright coming up next we've got some holiday decor Brooklyn style
13:19We'll be right back
13:23Open House is sponsored by VisitScotland
13:26To find out more and start planning your trip, search visitscotland.com
13:38Welcome back everyone
13:39Now we're in Brooklyn Heights to see how interior designer Fiona Byrne decorated her parlor level apartment for the holidays
13:46See how she incorporated her favourite bold colour and nods to her Irish heritage in the ornaments
13:53Take a look
13:58Hi I'm Fiona Byrne, I'm an interior designer and today I'd like to show you how I decorate my home
14:03for the holidays
14:03My aesthetic is quite minimal and fun and I think that translates really well into festive decor
14:09So come with me and I'll show you around
14:14My apartment is on the parlour level of a Brooklyn brownstone and it has a ton of original details
14:19Like these beautiful parquet floors, a ton of moulding and super high ceilings
14:24So it's a really fun space to decorate for any occasion
14:27Fireplaces give you the ultimate feeling of cosiness which is something you're always trying to achieve for the holidays
14:32Back in the day this would have been a working fireplace but since it's not working anymore
14:36I bought this faux fire fixture and now I've taken it a step further by adding a faux crackle speaker
14:42as well
14:45I love it because even though it's kind of a joke it actually really does give you a feeling of
14:49cosiness
14:50A few years ago I saw that Cartier had wrapped their 5th Avenue store in this massive red ribbon and
14:55bow
14:55And I thought I want to do that at home. I love it so much. I think I'm actually going
14:59to do it every year
15:00There's no mantle here. So I had to think of other ways to decorate the fireplace and hearth
15:04I really like the look of stacked presents and it's also a very inexpensive way to fill a large space
15:09And then I added another layer with a bunch of candles and an old Irish telephone box snow globe
15:15And of course I added a couple of stockings in my two favourite colours
15:18I think this is the kind of fireplace that would make Santa really happy
15:22But I should probably tell him that the chimney's been closed up for about 50 years
15:28Now we're in the living room where the focal point is, of course, the Christmas tree
15:32I have one rule. If you're going to get an artificial tree, just make sure it's a nice one
15:36In my opinion, these trees from Balsam Hill are very realistic
15:40It's so authentic you can practically smell the pine needles
15:43I knew this spot would be perfect for a tree and I just love how it looks between the two
15:48big windows
15:48I think your tree should be decorated only with things you love
15:52And two of the things I love are New York and Ireland
15:54So here we have a mix of iconic design from both
15:57So I have a classic yellow checkered cab, a subway car, a New York coffee cup
16:02And from Ireland there's a mini clutch cottage, a telephone box, a post box
16:07And a tiny pint of Guinness that I think is so cute
16:10Oh, and I have a ton of these mini Aran jumpers that I actually started selling this year
16:15They're knit by my mom and my aunt and I just think they're the cutest things ever
16:19My design style is quite 70s and that's why I went for colorful lights on the Christmas tree
16:25Some people think that you should only have white lights for it to be tasteful
16:29Well, I just don't think there's any room for a taste at Christmas
16:31Candles are such a good and affordable way to bring in the cozy
16:34My mom got me these old-timey candlestick holders and I feel so Dickensian whenever I lift one up
16:39I love anything that reminds me of Ireland
16:42And my mom also got me this cushion that says Nullig, which is the Irish word for Christmas
16:46I love that it has a touch of tan in the word and it goes perfectly with my vintage tan
16:50chair
16:50I think my retro classic Christmas design style goes really well with all of the vintage furniture and accessories in
16:57the apartment
17:02Well, that's how I decorate my house for the holidays
17:05I hope you got some inspiration and maybe some ideas for your own place
17:08Christmas is about having fun, so happy Christmas and as we'd say in Ireland, Nullig, Hanna
17:17Coming up just after the break, design has never tasted so good
17:20See what I mean when we come back
17:31Welcome back everyone
17:32Nothing says the holiday is quite like a party
17:35Tis the season to have fun and indulge a little, am I right?
17:39Well, food stylist Marjorie Artierrez makes a living helping clients do just that
17:44She's the creative director at Pinch Food Design, a catering and event planning company at the intersection of high design
17:50and culinary delight
17:52And that's also how she lives in her apartment on the Lower East Side
17:56Dig in and enjoy
18:01Hi, I'm Marjorie Artierrez, I'm the creative director of Pinch Food Design, a food design and catering company in New
18:08York
18:08Welcome to my apartment in the heart of the Lower East Side
18:11This is Baba, Baba is my sous chef and, you know, spends a lot of time in the kitchen with
18:16me
18:16My apartment is a celebration of the two things I love, food and design
18:20So come, let me give you a tour
18:25So what we love about this apartment is the brutalism style
18:28You have these concrete tiles on the ceiling, those floor-to-ceiling windows at the back of each room
18:34We were looking for a very comfortable couch but also something low that doesn't block the light for the room
18:41And it came down to the togo, which is an iconic design, we love it
18:45And thanks to this angle shape, it allows you to divide the living room from the kitchen
18:50One of my favorite things in here are the stacks of stools, which allow us to extend the family at
18:56the dining table
18:56And have up to, you know, ten people at once sometimes
19:00That overlooking window into that garden, that's something we've been embracing
19:06And adding more plants to connect the indoor, the outdoor
19:09We feel we achieve the great balance in between the calm of this place and the high energy of the
19:15New York we love
19:18So this is finally the kitchen
19:20And this is the place where I get to cook, have fun, gather and host all my loved ones
19:27So today I'm gonna make something we do a lot at our parties at Pinch
19:31Which are those beautiful pretzel flowers
19:34So let's get started
19:35What I'm gonna do is sprinkle a little flour on the dough
19:40And then I'm gonna cut some thin lines of dough
19:44So this dough makes a lot of pretzel, actually, as you can see
19:48I roll the dough in between my hands
19:51I'm gonna cut here
19:53So this is a good length
19:55You transport them into the sheet pan
19:57And this is where, because they're so delicate, you actually need to shape the flour already on the pan
20:03It's beautiful
20:05There we go, one flour
20:07We're gonna spray them with pretzel water
20:09Which has kind of sodium in it
20:12And then we're gonna sprinkle them with salt
20:16And a mix of herbs and mustard seeds
20:21And now these flowers are ready to bake
20:27Once the pretzel is baked, I dip it in mustard oil
20:31And then in the edible flowers
20:33And then my favorite part is to put it in the vase
20:38And now we're ready to serve
20:47So this is Pinch Food Design in the heart of Chelsea
20:49We have our professional kitchen, our design studio, our workshop, our tasting room, our test kitchen
20:56And a massive chandelier made out of hundreds and hundreds of wine glasses
21:00When we have tastings
21:01And this is where we produce 350 events per year
21:07So you've seen where I live and work
21:09And how I'm surrounded by food and design every day
21:11And I'll see you very soon
21:13A la prochaine
21:17Well that's a wrap everybody with a big red bow
21:20We hope you enjoyed celebrating the holidays with us
21:22And maybe found some inspiration for your own home
21:25We'll be back next week with more homes and design inspiration
