From April 10, 2026, Tasmania and Victoria can expect a chilly day with strong winds, rain, and even a chance of hail and low-level snow. Southern NSW will feel the chill with cold air and showers. Meanwhile, the east coast of NSW, especially western areas and the Hunter region, could see record-breaking April temperatures.

00:00Hello, this is Angus at the BOM, the Bureau of Meteorology, it's the National Weather
00:04Forecast.
00:05We're focusing in on Friday's weather, end of the week, 10th of April.
00:08We've got quite a wintry, punchy weather system moving across the southeast today and
00:14on Friday.
00:15That's going to be bringing showers and some very strong winds through parts of Tasmania,
00:19Victoria, southern parts of New South Wales.
00:22Some cold air coming in as well will lead to low snow levels and some hail for Friday
00:27and maybe even pushing into the start of the weekend.
00:30Elsewhere we're keeping a watch on Tropical Cyclone Myla up near Papua New Guinea, that's
00:34still a long way away from the country so for Friday remaining parts of Australia are bright
00:39and clear and that includes pretty much the entire state of Queensland.
00:44Another clear sunny warm day, temperatures above the average for April, not much rain anywhere
00:49across the state, just a few showers around the Cairns Innisfail stretch of coastline, only
00:53low rainfall totals expected and it will be dry everywhere else.
00:57We're heading towards a mostly sunny 30 degree day in Brisbane and temperatures out west
01:01as high as 37.
01:03A really hot day for New South Wales, in fact some places could be pushing record temperatures
01:09for the month of April.
01:11Along the east coast we'll be seeing 33 in Sydney, that's likely 35 for the western suburbs,
01:1635 Newcastle, 36 Maitland, 30 degrees in Wollongong.
01:20All of these places are a long way above the average for the time of year, warm and a little
01:24windy is the expectation for eastern areas.
01:27It will be even hotter than that out through the north west with Burke up to 39 degrees
01:31and across the Tablelands is where we'll most likely see record temperatures set with low
01:36to mid 30s expected.
01:38There will be some rain in the far south, could affect Canberra, ACT, the Snowy Mountains,
01:42Southern Tablelands and Riverina through the morning hours, should be clearing up after
01:46that but staying a little cooler down here and a bit breezy as well.
01:50And speaking of breezy it is a windy day tomorrow across Victoria, gusty through the entire state
01:55tomorrow and also look at those temperatures really coming down as well into the teens for
02:00large parts of Victoria, maybe low 20s in some areas.
02:04There will be showers for many as well, all southern districts will likely see a few passing
02:08showers.
02:09We're not anticipating any persistent rainfall or any big rainfall numbers but we will likely
02:14see that stop start, intermittent shower activity across the south and through the north eastern
02:19ranges.
02:21It's a wintry old day for Tasmania, the wind is really howling through tomorrow and look
02:25at these maximum temperatures, 14s, 15s up to about 17 in a couple of areas.
02:30But we put the wind chill factor in there and it's going to be feeling much colder, probably
02:35feeling around about 10 degrees tomorrow for most of the day and there will be some wet
02:40weather too.
02:41Showers across the entire state.
02:42We could see some hail out west, we could see some snow up in the mountains.
02:47For these eastern areas just good old fashioned liquid water raindrops and not too many of
02:51them around Hobart but certainly some passing showers no matter where in the state you live.
02:57For South Australia we'll also see a little bit of light passing shower activity from Port
03:02Augusta and Port Piri down to Adelaide across the peninsula and then down towards the south
03:07east for Mount Gambier.
03:08As with Victoria no big rainfall is expected, no large amounts, certainly no punchy thunderstorms
03:14like what we've been seeing in Adelaide this morning likely to be repeated on Friday
03:18but a little bit of wet weather nonetheless through these southern areas.
03:21Further north and out to the west it should be a dry day but temperatures are definitely cool
03:25cooling with some southerly winds spreading through.
03:29Western Australia, bright sunny day across the west coast, Perth 26 degrees, pretty seasonal
03:33for the time of year, about the average there.
03:36A little cooler and a little cloudier along the southern coastline but we're not anticipating
03:40much or really any rainfall down there.
03:43Should be dry through the interior and sunny and mild across the northwest.
03:48And certainly a bit of a feeling of dry season weather across northern Australia.
03:52Most of the showers and thunderstorms from earlier this week have cleared up by Friday and it
03:57will be predominantly sunny and bright.
03:59Just a couple of light showers between Darwin and Kununurra here in the north of WA.
04:05Most or all other areas will be dry.
04:09That's what I've got this time around.
04:11Check back tomorrow for our weekend forecast.
04:14Thanks very much for watching.
04:15We'll see you next time.
04:17We'll see you next time.
04:18We'll see you next time.
04:22Bye.
04:22Bye.
