00:01Newcastle police allege that the private midwife Jordan Michaela Holland attended a
00:06Walls End home in suburban Newcastle on October the 2nd 2024. Now officers say she was there to
00:13assist with a home birth and this home birth there ended up taking two days and despite complications
00:20police allege that Miss Holland failed to transfer the baby's mother to hospital. Now the mother
00:28herself took herself to the John Hunter Hospital on October the 4th. That's where police say she
00:33underwent an emergency caesarean surgery. Now the baby died on October the 10th and that's when a
00:40police strike force was formed here in Newcastle to investigate. Now Miss Holland was today charged
00:47with manslaughter. Police allege that during this failed home birth despite these complications that
00:54the mother was not transferred to hospital and subsequently the baby boy died. Now today
01:00there was a short hearing before an online bail judge. James Viney the judge granted Miss Holland
01:08bail but with strict conditions. He said that she could not in any way provide any midwifery care.
01:16He also said that she could not apply for a passport and must report to police once a week each
01:22Friday.
01:23Now she remains on bail and is due before court in June. There's a co-accused, a second woman,
01:29she was charged in August last year. Now she's due back in court next week.
