00:02I'm struggling with this, and let me tell you why.
00:05I'm struggling with this because I argued in favor all last week
00:09of Tony Vitello being authentic.
00:12Be you, my man.
00:14And I've been on the other side of that,
00:16and each day, each press conference, each quote about Teddy Roosevelt
00:21makes me feel like I might be on the right side of this.
00:24Well, I still, I don't mind.
00:25I don't mind.
00:26It does feel like, and Roosevelt was about as non-edgy as he's gotten.
00:32It does feel like the guys that he wants to bring up,
00:35he's bringing up some pretty controversial characters.
00:38At times, yeah.
00:39I mean, this guy, we're a week in, and he's like,
00:41Kanye and Tiger, am I right?
00:43Like, hey, hit the brakes.
00:46So, Teddy Roosevelt, cool, do more of that.
00:49That's fine.
00:50But here's what I'm getting at.
00:52This is less about his references and the fact that they're colorful
00:57and his responses are lengthy.
00:59I am still, for the moment, I'm going to back that.
01:03But this one's different.
01:05So, y'all remember Matt Chapman going up to Casey Schmidt in San Diego
01:10and going, catch a bleeping ball.
01:12And then he looked at him and, I'm going to say it again,
01:15catch the bleeping ball.
01:16And it became a big thing, and they had to do the whole, like,
01:19no, no, no, we hugged and we made up, and everything's fine.
01:24And it's been kind of a bad look because Chapman has been playing poorly,
01:27especially defensively, and first base has been a complete comedy of errors
01:32so far for the Giants.
01:34So, add all that up, and it sort of came up again.
01:39And so, this is before the game yesterday.
01:44And listen to what Vitello admits.
01:47A couple things we were able to keep from you guys, which was great.
01:52But if you lump those two in the one you're referencing
01:55with just kind of the beating on the mound,
01:57we've really only had three things that have been,
02:01I don't want to say controversial because that's a mislabel,
02:03but kind of some intensity back and forth a little bit.
02:06But we've played our best three games following that.
02:10And so, yeah, I mean, he's in the same, again,
02:13he's wearing the same uniform as we all were yesterday.
02:16None of us, other than, you know, Webby was pretty damn good
02:19and had our best day.
02:21So, you can try real hard to connect the dots
02:24to what happened like three or four days later.
02:27But I think our best games have come when our guys have kind of let loose
02:32a little bit, and coaches too, said what they think,
02:35do what they think is the right moment right in the moment.

02:42So now, in referencing Chappie at the mound and barking at Casey Schmidt,
02:50and that comes up, Tony is pointing out a couple things here.
02:54One, he feels like after those things happen is when the Giants play their best.
02:59And Chapman barking at Schmidt was followed by the first game of the Mets series
03:04where the Giants did play very well, and they won that baseball game.
03:08They haven't won since, but they did win that baseball game.
03:13But he launches, without question, into letting everybody know
03:18that there are two other times that this has happened.
03:21And his starting point is, isn't it great that we kept that from you?
03:25Right.
03:26And then I'm like, but now you just didn't keep it from us.
03:29Right.
03:29You just didn't call it out.
03:31We don't know who it is.
03:32We don't know what happened.
03:34And I'd argue actually leaving these things to the imagination in some ways
03:38is even worse, because now we're just going to head out into the world
03:42with the idea that three times in, because now this happened,
03:46he said after it happens, they win.
03:49And they haven't won in four games.
03:50Uh-huh.
03:51So that means in the first seven games, actually in the first six games of the year,
03:56we've had people yelling at each other.
03:59A brand new season and a brand new manager,
04:02and we're out here in the world not knowing if that's just complete normalcy.
04:08Like, is that normal?
04:10First six games of a baseball season?
04:13Do you all just bark at each other?
04:15It's reminiscent of when, like, Draymond punches Jordan Poole,
04:19and you had all those people come out and be like,
04:20y'all don't even know how often that happens in practice.
04:23You just happen to see it.
04:25So maybe that is the case.
04:26Maybe this is total normalcy.
04:29You know, but at the very least, it has me thinking about what and when,
04:34because he said in that quote, you know, we've played our best games.
04:38Now, it doesn't mean that they won all those games,
04:41but I'm just thinking back, and you get swept by the Yankees,
04:44and in that game, Willie Adamas gets pinched run for
04:48by the aforementioned Jared Oliva.

04:51And he has a certain expression at first that was not, I don't know, joy.
04:55He wasn't thrilled, I don't think.
04:57Willie Adamas is a guy who does not like to not play baseball.
05:00He wants to play in all 162, come hell or high water.
05:04Even last year when he was in that slump and they sat him in Colorado
05:07and he came out after that and had a monster game,
05:10he even said to us, I think, that he didn't really like that.
05:13He wants to play, so, you know, this whole comment about it's happened two times
05:18and, you know, were you able to keep that from you?
05:20It's got me and my mind racing.
05:22It's a great observation.
05:23And do you remember what Willie Adamas did the next night in San Diego?
05:28Probably, no, that's when he let off the game with a home run.

07:28So, if one of them is Chapman barking at Schmidt and they come out and beat the Mets the next

08:08And that was the Ryan Walker game where he came in and things got a little bit wonky.

08:15That was the Monday game.

08:21So, I don't know if it's something to do with that.
08:23And again, this is all, it's a speculation sensation is what it is.

11:22It's just like, I got to wonder if some of the vets are heading home going, oh, what are you

11:30It's April 7th and you're 11 games in.
11:32And it seems like the number one storyline of this team, and it's not just locally for all you people
11:39who want to come down our road for making a mountain out of a molehill.
11:42The number one storyline around this team is the manager making the jump from college to the pros, and he's
11:49not making that story go away.
11:51And I know three and eight, it's going to be easy to be critical.
11:53And I saw Keith Olbermann had a tweet a couple of days ago, and it's like, all right, Keith.
11:59I mean, do what you do.
12:00He's one step away from like Magic Johnson on Twitter.
12:04It's like you had to come in late and pile on.
12:06All right, Keith.
12:07He'd probably do well to be a little bit more Magic Johnson on Twitter.
12:10Or benign, so to speak.

13:27what is going on behind the scenes.

13:31It is the baseline of it is that they have the worst record in baseball.

13:51But you're 3-8, and your third baseman and your first baseman got into a little verbal confrontation, a little
13:58discussion, and your bullpen can't get people out.

14:03You don't use your bench, and, yeah, you're 3-8.
14:06And it doesn't help the fact that every single day he puts himself back out there and more out there.
14:12And so he's kind of been too much of the story, and he's upstaging his team.
14:17And maybe he's doing it to distract from the fact that he's got four guys hitting under 200.

14:23But, you know, I just think right now he's doing too much.
14:26And then sometimes it also feels like it's getting rubbed in.
