00:00I've tested a lot of home gym equipment and this is one of the few machines that actually fills a
00:04gap that most people don't even realize they have. This is the HVO Fitness Seated Calf Machine
00:09Anterior Tip Combo. In today's video I'm going to show you all the details about the machine. I'll
00:14tell you what I don't like about it and whether it deserves a spot in your home gym. Now real
00:18quick
00:18on the specs here so that you know what you're working with. This is not going to take up a
00:22lot
00:22of space in your home gym which is great. 52 inches in length, 37 inches in width, 760 pound
00:28weight capacity and it's made of 14 gauge steel so it's great for the home gym. You're going to be
00:32able to use any size weight plate whether it's an Olympic size weight plate or a standard size weight
00:37plate. The weight horns are compatible for each one and then this is going to fit people that are from
00:424'11 all the way up to 6'5 in height so very universal. Most people are going to be
00:46able to use
00:47it and it doesn't matter what type of weight plate you have. When it comes to stability the machine is
00:51very stable. It has a triangle design where you see two rubberized feet in the back and then there's
00:57another one right here but there's actually more to it so if I take you under the hood here you
01:01can
01:01see right under that foot plate there there's an adjustable foot right there and then another one
01:07on this side here so you can see both of them right there so there's actually five points of contact
01:12here that are giving the machine very good stability. So you can throw as much weight as you want on
01:18here
01:18and it's not going to be shaking up and down. Now as far as the padding goes the seat pad
01:21here is about
01:22an inch and a half in thickness. The vinyl being used here is a budget vinyl so don't expect anything
01:27out of this world. The one that's more important I believe is this one here the thickness on this one
01:32is two inches and that is what's going to actually put most of the weight on my thighs so this
01:37is the
01:38one that I care the most about. Two inches feels comfortable. Now the one down here this one has a
01:42diameter of four inches and it feels really comfortable on top of my foot so good padding here of
01:48course budget vinyl just because this is a budget machine but it gets the job done. Now I do like
01:52that they made the thigh pads adjustable here so that people different heights can use the machine.
01:57This over here has six different height settings and this right here I can move it side to side in
02:02five different settings. So just like that this makes it adjustable so people with different shin
02:07lengths can use the machine without a problem. Alright so let's talk range of motion so for the seated
02:11calf raise here there's no limitations as far as range of motion goes just because the foot plate is
02:16elevated so I can go up and down without any problems. I'll show you what that looks like here.
02:20So I started the top on the way down my heels feel like they're driving down past the foot place
02:25so
02:25there's no limitation I can go as far as my ankles let me. So seated calf raises feel really good.
02:32Now the
02:32one that I have an issue with is with the tip raises I feel there's limitations as far as the
02:38exercise
02:39goes so for example if I start here with my with my shins at vertical at 90 degrees I can't
02:45go any past
02:45that so there's there's limitations as far as where I can go it stops right there my foot doesn't have
02:52a chance to plantar flex to point down so what I have to do is I have to recline here
02:56a little bit
02:57all the way to the back of the seat and from here now I change my angle my shin angle
03:01so I get a
03:02little bit of a stretch at the start and then from here I can go up to full range of
03:08motion but then at
03:09the bottom I feel like I should still be able to go a little bit further there's not a complete
03:13plantar
03:14flexion so that's something that I that I feel HBO should look into just increase a little bit of
03:19the range of motion at the bottom so you can get a full stretch on the tip raises but other
03:24than that
03:24the seated calf raise feels great and then for this one I just have to recline back to be able
03:30to do
03:30that but then it kind of falls short right there at the bottom so that's my take on the range
03:36of
03:36motion of both exercises now as far as the weight horns go the one in the front here for the
03:40seated calf
03:41raises is nine and a half inches in length so it's going to have plenty of space for you to
03:44load it
03:45up keep in mind this machine can hold over 700 pounds so it's going to be able to hold anything
03:49you throw on it now this one in the front here doesn't require a long length just because anterior
03:54tip raises are not going to need a lot of weight for you to knock them out they're going you're
03:58going to
03:58feel the burn with little weight what I do like is that they still have the option here to remove
04:03the
04:03cover for people that still use the standard weight plates so this thing is universal you can either use
04:09the one in center hole weight plates or the Olympic size weight plates with the two inch holes as far
04:13as the price goes is it's selling for 270 dollars and I haven't seen any other combo machine like
04:18this one online so there's nothing really to compare it to there's no competition for the combo unit
04:23so for 270 dollars I think this is a good price especially considering when you buy something
04:29separately if you buy the seated calf raise machine plus if you buy an anterior tip machine
04:34separately they're going to be more expensive than this combo unit at 270 so not only are you saving
04:39money but you're also going to be saving up space because this is really not taking up any additional
04:44floor space so hvo fitness did a really good job with the price here it's a budget machine but you're
04:49also getting two and one that's going to be cheaper than buying two pieces separately so who's this
04:54machine for well this is more for the home gym owner who's looking for more of a complete lower leg
04:59development people that have stubborn calves that no matter how many calf raises they do standing calf
05:04raises they can't seem to get them to grow this is going to target that muscle underneath the
05:09gastrocnemius so you can get more of a full development on the back side of the leg now also
05:14for the front side of the leg you can work your anterior tibs that's going to help you to prevent
05:18any shin splints it's going to aid with ankle stability so it's good for athletes as well just because
05:23it's going to work not only the lower leg here but also support ankle stability so you have
05:28better control which is going to also be translating to any sort of jumping exercise
05:33any sort of running exercise walking lunges squats all of that translates to better ankle stability
05:39so that you can generate more power from the ground up all right so now i'll give you my pros
05:43and cons
05:44i'll start with the cons the only con i have with the machine is that the range of motion on
05:48the tip
05:48raises is lacking so right at the bottom i feel like it stops right before i get a full stretch
05:54i think
05:54that's something that hbo fitness should address just increase a little bit of the range of motion
05:59at the bottom and it'll be solid because you can scoot back a little bit here and angle your shin
06:04so you can get most of the range of motion there but it's still lacking a little bit right at
06:07the end
06:08now as far as the pros go i like that it's a two-in-one machine you get the seated
06:12calf raise plus the
06:13anterior tip machine all-in-one doesn't take up any additional floor space and i haven't seen anything like
06:19it on the market so it's a two-in-one with no competition out there which is surprising i also
06:24like that the padding here the padding is very comfortable over here there's two inches in
06:29thickness for my thighs and then on the bottom the rollers have a four inch diameter so there's plenty
06:34of padding there for me to feel comfortable throughout the whole exercise either exercise
06:38i also like that this doesn't take up too much pace 52 inches in length so just a little bit
06:43about
06:43four feet so it's not going to take up a lot of room in your home gym and the last
06:47thing about it
06:48is that it's very economical 270 it's going to be cheaper than buying two different machines
06:54separately you get the combo so it's not going to take up all their space and an additional one i
06:59guess would be that you can use any type of weight plate on here whether it's a two inch center
07:03hole
07:03weight plate olympic plate or standard weight plate with one inch center hole you can use both of them
07:09making this very universal that's my review on the hvo seated calf raise anterior tip machine if you
