One thing I like about this hip thrust bench is that I can use it for more than just strengthening my glutes.

00:00hey what's up guys Jose here straight at dad.com and today's video I'm reviewing the GMWD hip
00:09thrust machine now I can do hip thrusts here but I can also use it for a lot more during my leg days
00:14I can use this for heel elevated squats calf raises and also Bulgarian split squats so in
00:20this video I'm going to show you everything there is to know about this machine pros cons specs
00:24everything you want to know now I'm going to show you how I set up here and then I'll show you how
00:27the machine works so the first thing I like to do is I like to incline the footplate the footplate
00:31has four different settings that's the flat setting and then it has three different inclines I like to
00:36set it at the highest one right there and the reason I do that is because I feel I can generate
00:41more power whenever I'm doing my hip thrusts so I can put more weight on the on the sleeves here
00:47so once I have that set up all I have to do is come in here there's a seat pad here on the bottom
00:51the back pad here and then all I have to do is set the the hip pad down and lock it in place this
00:58works on a hinge so I can move it up and down I set it here lock it in place and then I just get my
01:03my feet in whatever position I want to be so that's the setup now the way this works is that you have
01:08arms here these arms are almost like a barbell jack it's going to hold the weight up higher than
01:13normal and then once I push up once I do my hip thrusts this on the arm here there's two arms that
01:19work simultaneously are going to fall back releasing the weight onto my hips so it'll look like this
01:24now now the weight is fully on my hips and I can go up and down once I'm done I release it and I can
01:33go out and I'm done that's the whole exercise that's how simple it works I kind of like this better than
01:39using a barbell just because the setup is very very minimal I just have to load the weight plates and
01:44I'm ready to go with a barbell I have to load each side on the barbell I have to make sure that I
01:49set the bench in a correct position and then I have to worry about the balancing of the weight
01:54plates or the whole barbell whenever I go real heavy over here it's just load the weights and push up
02:00as much as I can so for this I like the setup even though it's going to take up a lot of space more
02:05than a barbell but it's just faster more efficient so here's the footplate there's four different levels
02:10this is the flat level then we have one incline two incline and the third incline so it's easy to set
02:15up I just pull on a handle here and this automatically is going to move up to the next level
02:20and I can keep going all the way up now to release it very simple I lift it up a little bit and then I
02:27can move this back and it's back to the original position now down here there's handles where I can
02:34lift the machine so that I can roll it back and forth but that's it for the footplate a lot of space
02:40diamond plated to give you some grip and it's all metal I'm going to give you a closer look at the
02:44different pads on the machine here so the first one here this is the back pad as you can see is
02:49dome shaped and that feels a whole lot better than the edge of a weight bench and also that curve
02:53helps me to flow easily through the exercise now this right here this is the hip pad and this is
02:59about two inches in thickness it locks here on this side and then over here on this side there's a hinge
03:04where it's going to hinge open and closed and let me show you how that works actually so I'm going to
03:09pull this up and I'm going to open this up and it hinges easily and then once I'm done or when I
03:16want to lock myself up I just go in there and lock it in place and that's all there's to it now another
03:21thing I like about this is that this rolls so whenever I'm doing Bulgarian split squats on that
03:26thing it flows easily with my foot too and then down here this is the seat pad it's about two inches
03:32in thickness as well and it feels very comfortable so here's the sleeve and this is actually the only
03:36plastic part in the whole machine it's hard plastic and the reason it's hard plastic is because this is
03:42actually adjustable I can adjust this to fit Olympic sized weight plates with the sleeve where I can
03:48remove the sleeve and there's an inside rod there that's one inch diameter for standard sized weight
03:54plates so it fits both plates so that's why they made that plastic now this thing is nine inches in
03:59length about eight inches of that is usable just because you don't want to put weight right on the edge
04:03there where they're going to fall off now for most people I think that's enough length as far as the
04:08sleeve goes but for people that lift a lot of weight during hip thrusts especially if you use bumper
04:12plates you might be short here just because with eight inches of usable space here this is about half
04:19the length of a regular barbell sleeve so if you're somebody that lifts a lot of heavy weight during hip
04:24thrusts then this might be too short for you but for the majority of people I think it's going to be
04:28fine and right next to the sleeves are the safety arms these are the ones that are going to support the
04:32weight they have rubber pads on here and a handle there that allows me to push it back this way
04:37whenever I'm done working out right here on the bottom this is a depth limiter this allows me to
04:42adjust the depth of the hip thrust so I can basically release this knob here it sets in place and then
04:50I can cut the depth short or I can let it float a little bit more like that and that way I can do a
04:57deeper hip thrust and finally on this end here there's a couple of wheels where I can pick up the
05:02machine from the other end and roll it away wherever I want to move it and you can also see
05:06there's a pad here and also in other parts of the machine to add stability so it doesn't slip around
05:11and I'll go over the specs real quickly this has a weight capacity of 800 pounds the machine itself
05:16weighs 192 pounds and then the dimensions are 71 inches in length by 31 inches in width this is made
05:23out of 14 gauge steel which is going to be great for most home gyms now let's talk pros and cons con
05:28number one is that this is going to take up a lot of space so if you don't have a lot of space in
05:31your home gym then this might not be a good fit for you con number two is that the size of the
05:36sleeves are eight inches in length so if you're somebody that's used to doing a lot of weight
05:40especially with bumper plates then you may not have a lot of room on those sleeves in order to put
05:45the amount of weight that you're used to now let's talk about the pros pro number one for me is that
05:49this is way easier than setting up a barbell and a bench for barbell hip thrusts I just have to worry
05:54about loading the sleeves set myself into the machine and I'm ready to go I don't have to worry
05:58about balance I don't have to worry about getting the bench in the right position I don't have to
06:02worry about the bench moving while I'm hip thrusting this is just ready to go very easy to do pro number
06:07two for me is that I can use this for more than just hip thrusts I can use this for calf raises I can
06:13use it for heel elevated squats and I can use it for Bulgarian split squats so during leg days I can use
06:18this single machine for a lot of the exercises and pro number three is that all the pads feel
06:23comfortable especially the hip pad where I've had problems in the past with a barbell here
06:27just pinning down the weight right on my hip bone so this is very comfortable so that's my review on
06:32the GMW hip thrust machine it's a good machine if you have the space for it it's going to allow you
06:35to do hip thrusts which are going to load easier than using a barbell you can do Bulgarian split squats
06:40calf raises and heel elevated squats in one single machine if you want to learn more about it I'll
