00:00Most adjustable dumbbells look great until you actually start lifting with them. Plate
00:03rattle, plastic breaks, or they take forever to adjust. But these right here, the Isolink
00:08adjustable dumbbells might be one of the most underrated options for serious lifters. Now
00:13these right here go up to 80 pounds, but they can be expanded all the way up to 160 pounds.
00:17They're all metal and the adjustment system is completely different from your typical
00:21dial dumbbells. So in this video I'm going to show you exactly how they work, what makes
00:25them different, and whether these are actually worth it or just another cheap adjustable
00:29dumbbell that's going to collect dust in your garage. Alright, so what are the specs on the
00:33Isolink dumbbells? Well these are all made out of metal. There's no plastic parts, so I've
00:37purposely tried to break them and nothing happens. They're going to be very durable because they're
00:43all made out of metal, which is a great thing. Now as far as space goes, they're 14 inches
00:47in length, so they're not going to take up a lot of space. The 80 pound set goes from 10
00:51to 80 pounds in 5 pound increments, so they're going to replace 15 pairs of dumbbells. So
00:55it's like having a mini rack of dumbbells in a tiny amount of space, which is a great thing
00:59in a home gym. We don't want stuff that takes up a lot of room. This does that. It replaces
01:0415 pairs of dumbbells in 14 inches of length. Now as far as the handle goes, the handle is
01:10a little bit on the wide side. On the long side, it's about 7 inches in length, and you
01:14have a 35 millimeter diameter, so it's a little bit on the wider side as well, and it has a
01:18mild to medium knurling on it. Now as far as the handle goes, I don't have a problem with
01:23the 80 pound set. I can see it being a problem with the expansion kit, where you can go up
01:28to 160 pound with these. Then I can see the handle, the long handle being a little bit
01:33more of a problem, because you're going to have to really balance the weights on the side,
01:37the extra length of the dumbbell. But as far as overall specs, I think it's a great thing.
01:42I think they're very durable because they're made out of steel. They're compact, so they're
01:46not going to take up a lot of room. And the handle itself, it feels solid, but once again,
01:51I can see that being more of a problem once you start going with the expansion kit, where it can
01:55go up
01:55to 160 pounds, you have a whole lot of dumbbell hanging out from the sides. So it's going to be
02:00a little bit harder on your wrists. All right, so I'm going to show you the weight plates and how
02:03they work together. This one over here is a two and a half pound plate. This one over here is
02:07a
02:07five pound plate. And the reason I can tell is because this one has a cutout on each side here,
02:12making it lighter. And this one is also thinner. If I put them right next to each other, you can
02:16see
02:17this one's a little bit thinner than this one. So two and a half, five pounds right next to it.
02:21Now, all these plates are going to have an upside down U right here on the center, bottom center.
02:26And the reason they have that there is so that it makes it easier and quicker to adjust the dumbbell.
02:31So instead of having to pull out the entire spin lock here, all I have to do is drop this
02:36in from
02:36the top. So if this was a circle here and this was completely sealed, I would have to pull out
02:42the
02:42entire pin in order to adjust the dumbbell. With this, I can just drop it in, makes it a whole
02:47lot faster.
02:49Now, one thing that there is to note about these here is that they don't have any numbering systems.
02:54So initially you're going to have to be doing a lot of math here. Of course, I'm working with five
02:59pounds and two and a half pounds here. So it's not very hard, but it's just, it would be easier
03:04if
03:04they had a number there for me to actually try to do the math a little bit easier. All these
03:09plates,
03:10you're going to notice that most of these plates, I shouldn't say all of them, they're going to have
03:13female pieces right here on one side. And if I turn it around, they have male pieces here.
03:18And the reason they have that is because they interlock. So this one here, the two and a half
03:23pound plate doesn't have the female pieces, but the five pound plates do. So they interlock with each
03:29other and that keeps them together so that they don't slide up and down. Now the horizontal adjustment
03:35here keeps them tight closely to each other. And then you have that second locking mechanism right
03:41there. So these are very safe because of that, but that is how they work. They interlock with each
03:46other. This one here has a male piece. This one here has a female piece. I insert it, lock it
03:52in
03:52place. And then I have my adjustments. Very simple. So I'm going to show you how to adjust the dumbbell.
03:58It's really simple. It's not as fast as something like a Newell Bell or a Trulap where you're using the
04:03handle here to twist and change the weights, but it's still fairly simple to use and it doesn't take a
04:08very long time. So what I'm going to do here is twist the spin lock just enough to give me
04:14some space
04:14here so that I can move, remove or add some weight plates. Once I'm done, I just twist it back.
04:20So if
04:20I'm taking off weight, I pull them out, twist it all the way in. If I'm adding weight, I just
04:26do this,
04:28twist it back. And that's really all there's to it. Of course, you're going to do the same on the
04:32other
04:32side. Now the hardest part about adjusting the adjustable dumbbell here, the Eisenlink is going
04:37to be actually knowing the math. The handle by itself is 10 pounds. Each one of these spin locks
04:42is two and a half pounds. Then you have five pound plates in between. And then the last one, the
04:47thinnest one here is going to be two and a half pounds. So the hardest part about adjusting this is
04:51just doing the math. So now I'll give you my pros and cons. I'll start with the cons. So number
04:55one con
04:55for me with these dumbbells is that they don't have a numbering system. There's no numbers on the
05:00weight plate. So initially you're not going to know what you're lifting. You're going to have to
05:04do a little bit of math. So for example, the handle by itself is 10 pounds. Then each locking
05:09screw on the ends here is two and a half pounds. And then you have thicker plates that are five
05:13pounds and then a thinner plate that's two and a half pounds. So you kind of have to play around
05:17getting used to the numbers there. I wish there was a numbering system on there that would make this
05:22easier. So that is my number one con. Another con for me would be that the handle is about seven
05:28inches in length. So I can see that being a little bit more of a challenge whenever you're trying to
05:33balance heavy weight. So if you if you go 80 and above, if you get the expansion kit, if you're
05:38at
05:38160 pounds or over 100 pounds, I can see where the handle being so long can become a challenge with
05:45balance. And the final con for me would be that these are not going to be as quick as a
05:50twist handle
05:51adjustable dumbbell or a power block adjustable dumbbell. So they're not going to be the best for drop
05:57sets. They're still quick, but not as quick. Now I'll give you my pro. So the number one pro for
06:01me is that these have a build quality that's really good for the price. These are all made out of
06:06steel.
06:07There's no plastic parts. And even though these are not made to be dropped, I'm confident that even
06:11if I drop them, that they're not going to break just because there's nothing that's made out of
06:15plastic. Another pro for me is that these feel very safe compared to other adjustable dumbbells I've
06:20tested that have a little bit of a rattle. And it doesn't mean that they're not safe because they have
06:24a
06:25rattle. But this one here doesn't have any rattle at all. I like that the weight plates fit right into
06:29each other. They have that that screw on each side there that fits right into the back of the weight
06:34plates, keeping them closely tight together. Plus the locking screw here just keeps everything really
06:39tight. So as far as safety goes, I feel they're really safe. Another thing I like about these is that
06:45they're expandable. So these can go up to 160 pounds. So if you outgrow the 80 pound set, you can
06:51go up to
06:51160 pound, which that would be the ultimate dumbbell for everybody where you don't have to
06:56buy anything else. And again, you know, once you get to that point, you got to go back to that
07:01con
07:01that I mentioned. The handle may play a role there in balance. But as far as expandability, I like that
07:07this thing can keep growing with you. Another thing I like about them is that it replaces 15 pairs of
07:13dumbbells in five pound increments starting from 10 pounds. So 10, 15, 20, 25, all the way up to 80.
07:19So
07:19replaces 15 pairs of dumbbells in a small amount of space will not take up a lot of room, which
07:24is
07:24great in a home gym. And then finally, for the price, these, the 80 pound set is 530 bucks. So
07:30this is one of the most affordable adjustable dumbbells out there that is made out of metal.
07:34So what's the price on the 80 pound set? Well, this one here is selling for 530 bucks, which I
07:39think is
07:39a really good deal, especially when you compare it to other adjustable dumbbells on the market around the
07:44same weight range. So let's look at this Note AD 80, for example, that one goes from 10 to 80
07:49pounds
07:49and sells for $200 more than this one. So it's for $731. And it actually has less weight increments
07:56than this one. So you get more out of this one for less money. Now let's look at another one.
08:01The
08:01PowerBlock Pro 100 EXP, the 80 pound set is selling for $977. So close to a grand, almost double the
08:09price
08:10to this one. So when you compare it to other adjustable dumbbells around the same weight
08:14range, you can see that this one is actually underpriced. That's my review on the Eisenlink
