A case of alleged post-wedding theft has been reported from Hathras, where a newlywed bride is accused of attacking her husband and fleeing with jewellery and cash.

According to the complaint filed by Sunil Kumar, the marriage took place on February 21, 2026. Two days later, on February 23, the bride allegedly attacked him with a knife. He managed to escape unhurt. After the incident, she reportedly reassured him that she was willing to continue the marriage and stay with him.

However, on the night of February 25, she prepared dinner for Sunil but did not eat herself. After he fell asleep, she allegedly fled the house. The next morning, Sunil discovered she was missing.

The complainant has alleged that the bride took gold and silver jewellery, including a hansuli (necklace), pendant, maang tika, two gold rings and anklets, along with ₹18,000 in cash.

A formal complaint has been lodged at Kotwali Sadar Police Station. Police have initiated an investigation into charges of assault and theft.

The case has drawn comparisons with a June 2025 incident in Prayagraj, where a bride named Sitara allegedly threatened her groom with a knife on their wedding night before eloping with a partner. Authorities said further inquiry is underway.
