1906: Greta dies in childbirth after an affair with aristocrat Dr. Herbert von Ravensbrück; her brother Franz—who both abused and worshipped her—mourns over her corpse in a crypt-like room. Using an ancient Incan medallion (inscribed “Greta 1906” plus cryptic symbols that supposedly contain a formula for creating life), Franz reanimates her. Greta returns as an undead, beautiful revenant.

1909: A carriage crash brings the amnesiac Greta into the Ravensbrück household, where Walter and his wife Eva take her in. A poisonous love triangle forms—Walter and Eva both fall for Greta. Jealous Eva walls Greta up alive in the cellar (a nod to Poe’s The Black Cat), but Greta doesn’t stay dead. She emerges, her face intermittently rotting into a corpse-mask, and begins a slow, surreal revenge: she seduces, manipulates, and kills (butler Simeon, maid Gertrude, others), while Dr. Sturges—investigating the medallion—confirms she’s undead (a needle in the eye causes no pain). Franz’s apparition stalks the house, slashing throats with a scalpel that leaves no lasting wound. Greta also confronts Herbert (Walter’s father) with the memory of her death in childbirth.

It ends with Inspector Dannick piecing things together too late: he finds Franz’s corpse and finally meets an aged Greta, smiling at him—suggesting she’s survived, still beautiful, still deadly, and the mystery remains unsolved.
