00:00Let's go right to it. Let's go to the Make It Right Call Kyle Wright Hotline. Mary Kay Cabot joins
00:03us right now.
00:04Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cleveland.com. Mary Kay, how the hell are you? Let me ask you this.
00:07Is it irresponsible, to quote Anthony Lima, is it
00:12irresponsible to not consider trading Miles Garrett now that that contract
00:16has been reworked a little bit with the Cleveland Browns?
00:21Well, when you say not consider it,
00:24are you saying is it irresponsible to not trade him or to not consider
00:28trading him? Yeah, I think over the course of the show, I didn't
00:32come to the show with this opinion, but the more Ken
00:34pressed me on it, I realized what I was saying, which was
00:37as long as Miles Garrett is healthy and playing
00:40for the Browns, they have no shot to get the first
00:44or second pick in the draft that I think they're going to want
00:46the first or second pick. He's too good. I watched the end of the
00:50season last year and his presence on the field. He didn't
00:53even do anything in the Pittsburgh game just
00:56by sheer enormity of him showing up to the stadium.
00:59They won that game. Like how many players on that side
01:03of the ball in the last 30 years have that profound impact
01:06on a game? And as long as he's on the Browns,
01:10it's going to prevent them from getting the quarterback.
01:13I don't know if you can say that with any degree of certainty
01:18that it's going to prevent them from getting the quarterback.
01:20Certainly other teams have found a way to get a quarterback
01:24and to be successful without having to use the number one pick
01:29on the quarterback or the number two pick or whatever the case may be.
01:33I mean, there are plenty of teams that you can cite that
01:37have fixed their quarterback situation without having to do that.
01:41So I don't, as it stands right now, I don't think, and I wrote this last night,
01:48they don't, I know they don't have any plans to trade him right now.
01:51I know that they don't. Now, can that change?
01:54I suppose anything can change. Everyone, pretty much everyone has a price.
01:58But the modifications that they made Tuesday were not with the intent
02:05to trade him. So that's where it stands right now.
02:09And I don't think that not trading him prevents you
02:13from fixing your quarterback situation.
02:16Well, the reason I say it is because obviously the Browns have tried everything.
02:20They've tried every which way to get the quarterback,
02:22whether drafting them at the top of the draft, whether taking them at 22,
02:26whether trading for one, whether throwing all sorts of darts at the board,
02:31third round pick, fifth round pick, Kenny Pickett in, Joe Flacco in.
02:34Like, they've obviously tried every which way to do it,
02:37and they've been unable to do it.
02:38They didn't want Malik Willis, or who knows, maybe he didn't want them.
02:41They weren't going to get into the Kyler Murray situation.
02:45So I'm just sitting there saying their next best path, other than, hey,
02:49Shador ends up being way better than he played this year.
02:51And, you know, that's a reason to stay out of this incredible,
02:55prosperous first round that we keep hearing about when it comes to quarterbacks.
02:58Their only other option is to be bad if they want their pick at quarterback.
03:02Other than that, it's just stumbling into a solution.
03:06Well, I just, I think that they have way more pieces on this roster right now than people think that
03:12they do.
03:13And I don't think they're as far away as some people think they are.
03:18I mean, they won five games last year.
03:20I think they can get into the 7, 8, 9 victory range this year if they can get some good
03:26quarterback play.
03:27I felt that they could do that last year if they could get some good quarterback play.
03:30But I don't think that you have to trade Miles Garrett to get good quarterback play.
03:35I don't think you have to do that.
03:36Now, these revisions and these tweaks do make it easier to trade him if it comes to that.
03:43But I don't necessarily see that happening this offseason.
03:46Maybe it's something that you revisit next offseason.
03:48And, of course, he has no trade clause, too.
03:51So that's also a factor and a big one.
03:55But I do think that there is a world in which you can solve your quarterback issue without having to
04:01go to that length.
04:03Mary Kay Cabot joining us on the Make It Right Call Call Call Right Hotline.
04:05Final question from me about the Miles situation.
04:08What would your asking price start with?
04:11Three first-round picks.
04:13I mean, if you're going to get two for Max Crosby, you have to at least get three for Miles
04:20Garrett.
04:21I mean, that's where you would want to land.
04:22Maybe you would ask for more than that.
04:24But I don't think you give him up for anything less than three.
04:28All right.
04:29Mary Kay Cabot joining us here on the show.
04:31We had Kayla Naboor on yesterday.
04:33Didn't do a great job of selling Ty Simpson.
04:35And he was honest.
04:36I give him credit for being a pretty honest fella.
04:38Is he in any consideration right now for the Cleveland Browns?
04:41Or has that almost been spiked?
04:44Well, I think you have to see where he goes in the draft or where his market is in the
04:49draft.
04:50If he starts to fall, I think maybe it starts to make sense a little bit later.
04:54And I don't think anybody can predict that accurately right at this moment.
04:59I know what Dan Arlovsky is saying.
05:01And I know what some other people are saying about him, that he's better than Fernando Mendoza.
05:05I don't know if that's true.
05:06I don't know how many teams feel about that.
05:08But I just don't know that they would take him at number six overall.
05:14I think that if he starts to get into a range where they feel more comfortable with him there,
05:19that maybe then they would do it there.
05:21And I think they are continuing to do their work on it.
05:23But right at this moment, I don't really see them taking him at number six.
05:27And I think he would be by 24.
05:30At number six, I think a lot of Browns fans would be thrilled to take the Ohio State wide receiver
05:35available in this draft, Carnell Tate.
05:37They had the pro day yesterday.
05:39Mary Kay, how do you feel about Carnell Tate?
05:42And second parter of this question, because I know you're capable of handling it, Mary Kay,
05:46unlike some other people we have on from time to time.
05:49Your feelings on Andrew Barry not attending the Ohio State pro day?
05:55Well, they have a different approach this year.
05:58And I'm not exactly sure what the thinking is behind some of it.
06:03But I am eager to ask about it.
06:05We have the owners meetings coming up.
06:06So I'm leaving Saturday for Phoenix.
06:08And on Sunday, we have a small group session with Andrew Barry.
06:12On Monday, we have a small group session with the Haslams.
06:15And then on Tuesday, we have the AFC coaches breakfast,
06:18where we'll sit down with Todd Munkin for about a half an hour.
06:21So I think we'll have a better idea of what their thinking is with not attending some of these pro
06:26days.
06:26They also didn't go to Ty Simpson's pro day yesterday.
06:30They sent Glenn Cook and Catherine Hickman, the two assistant GMs, to Ohio State yesterday.
06:35And I know they've had some of the guys in.
06:37They had Carnell Tate into Berea.
06:40And I'm sure they're going to have others of those Ohio State guys in.
06:44So they have a method to their madness here.
06:46I'm not exactly sure what it is yet.
06:49But with technology and with the other diligence that they do,
06:53I think that they probably feel like they have enough information that they need on these guys.
06:58And then as far as Carnell Tate, at number six overall, I would be perfectly fine with that.
07:04I'm a big receiver person.
07:06I think that it's a premium position.
07:09And I think they are game changers.
07:11And this is a football team that needs to score points.
07:14They need to get in the red zone.
07:15They need to get in the end zone.
07:16They need touchdowns.
07:18And if someone can help you do that to a great degree, I'm all for it.
07:22Mary Kay Cabot with us on the show.
07:24What is the percent chance that Shador Sanders starts this season, week one, as the quarterback of the Browns?
07:31You know, right now I would probably put it at, I guess I would put it at 60%.
07:37Because if I look at...
07:39Whoa!
07:40Not bad!
07:41We had a guest on the...
07:42Twice as high as Albert Breer.
07:45Yeah!
07:45I was going to name names, but I'll go ahead and name names.
07:48You're twice as high as Albert Breer goes Mary Kay Cabot.
07:51Now that we're done getting all excited, tell me why after we cut you off.
07:56Sorry about that.
07:58Oh, that's okay.
07:59I just think that if it comes down to Deshaun versus Shador, I just think there's going to be a
08:05lot of sentiment to go with the player that you finished last season with and who showed what Todd Munkin
08:12described as elite playmaking ability.
08:15And in the event that you throw him out there and for some reason it doesn't work out the way
08:19that you hoped, then you could always turn it over to Deshaun.
08:22But I think with the way, you know, there are extenuating circumstances with the way fans feel about Shador and
08:28the way fans feel about Deshaun, it might make more sense to see what Shador can do.
08:34And then, once again, if it doesn't go the way that you hope, then people would be primed and ready
08:42for the Deshaun experience.
08:43They might not want that at the beginning of the season, and that could be a distraction.
08:47So, I just think there's going to be some sentiment to see what Shador can do with an upgraded supporting
08:55cast, with a better offense around him, with play calling design for him, with reps throughout the whole entire offseason
09:03and preseason with the starters.
09:06And I know Todd Munkin likes him, and he's excited to work with him, and we're going to have to
09:11see how this plays out, because in my mind, one of the biggest factors here is which of these two
09:18quarterbacks is going to know the Todd Munkin offense well enough to show out in these offseason and preseason workouts
09:28and games.
09:29That's going to be the key.
09:30You've got to know the new scheme inside and out.
09:33Well, speaking of Deshaun Watson, obviously, we've seen a bunch of Shador Sanders in Berea.
09:42We've seen his gift, the horse's head, to his head coach.
09:48We have seen him all over Northeast Ohio.
09:50Has anybody seen Deshaun Watson, or do we still need to go to Italy or South Florida to get a
09:55chance to see his workouts?
09:57Yeah, I don't think he's been here all that much.
10:00I can't say that he hasn't been, but when I have seen or heard of him, he is working out
10:06and throwing and working very, very hard, by the way, and he's working with a couple of the Browns receivers
10:11here and there, down there.
10:13So I do think that, and he's with other quarterbacks, that, you know, he's with Jacoby Brissett and Tyrod Taylor
10:20and, you know, a number of other guys that he's working with down in South Florida.
10:24So he's working.
10:26He knows what's at stake.
10:28And so far, I think he looks pretty good on film.
10:31And once again, it's just going to be a matter of who puts it all together and can impress the
10:35new coach the most.
10:37Mary Kay Cabot joining us on the show.
10:39Do you think that this rule proposition that they've made with trading into five years into the future, do you
10:45think it will pass this year?
10:50I think it has a decent chance.
10:52I'll have a better feel for it when I start asking around again when we get out to Phoenix and
10:57maybe talk to some other teams and see what the feeling is.
11:00But I don't know why there would be too much pushback on doing that.
11:05I don't know what the drawback to that would be.
11:08So I think this one has a good chance.
11:11Are we done in the wide receiver market right now or just until the draft?
11:16Is that it?
11:18I think so.
11:19I think that they're ready to take a receiver or two.
11:22I think they should take two premier caliber pass catchers in this draft.
11:27Once again, I'm a weapons person.
11:29I definitely think that you have to have a lot of good ones.
11:32I think when you watch the playoffs, I think that's borne out in those games.
11:37And I think that they need to add a couple more pieces in that space.
11:41It can be another tight end and another receiver or two receivers.
11:46But I think they need at least two more premier caliber pass catchers on this football team.
11:53Would you be willing to advocate to take two wide receivers with their two picks in the first round?
11:59If they're the two best available players, absolutely.
12:03If you think that you can also accomplish your goals at the other positions.
12:09But once again, they don't draft for need.
12:11In a tiebreaker situation, yes.
12:14But they're going into this draft feeling like they can field an offensive line.
12:19That can function very well.
12:21And so if they decided that the two best players were receivers, they would take those two players there.
12:27Now, chances are there would be a tiebreaker situation at one of those picks, 24, something like that.
12:32And then maybe you would end up with a different position.
12:35But I wouldn't put anything past Andrew Barry, including taking a defensive player at number six.
12:41Mary Kay, we're running out of time.
12:42Would you like to play a game?
12:44That's a yes.
12:46Here's what we'll do.
12:47When you hear the proper amount of NFL football games that should be in a given schedule for a team,
12:54you say stop.
12:56Okay, you ready?
12:58Sure.
13:0014 games.
13:0415 games.
13:06Oh, stop.
13:07We're done.
13:08The game's over.
13:0814 games scheduled.
13:10Mary Kay, they're talking about 18 games.
13:12Is it too much?
13:13Is it too much greed?
13:15What do we do?
13:17And I didn't say stop, by the way.
13:19Keep it going.
13:21Stop.
13:21Don't answer the question.
13:2215 games.
13:26Answer.
13:27I didn't hear anything.
13:27Here we go.
13:3016 games.
13:34All quiet on the west side front.
13:3817 games.
13:4418 games.
13:46Stop.
13:49I'm fine with the 18-game schedule.
13:51I like an even number.
13:52It's headed this way.
13:53I hate it.
13:53I've been mentally prepared for it for a while.
13:56It's going to happen.
13:57I mean, we're going to be going all over the world one of these days.
14:01We're going to be traveling to Australia for a game.
14:03I mean, other teams already are.
14:05And every year you can count on going to some international game.
14:12And I think the 18-game schedule is going to start to make more sense in that regard.
14:18Especially if they eliminate another one of the preseason games.
14:21I don't think anybody would miss that.
14:23Yeah, 10.30 a.m. kickoff in Australia so we could see it in primetime over here in the States.
14:29I hope we never play over there.
14:30It sounds like you're in it for the frequent flyer miles.
14:33Yeah, Mary Kay.
14:33What's the...
14:34And it's kind of tough to get through security these days, Mary Kay, so be careful what you wish for.
14:38Coming in hot tomorrow.
14:39You better be careful there.
14:41Yeah, I just don't think that you can stand in the way of progress.
14:45And the NFL is on a roll right now to make this push into the international scene.
14:50And to expand the schedule pretty soon before you know it.
14:53We're going to have year-round NFL football somehow, some way.
14:57It's already almost that way when you factor in pre-agency and the draft and those kinds of things.
15:01But it's all coming.
15:03And there's nothing anybody can do to stop it.
15:06Mary Kay, thank you so much for your time.
15:08You're a wonderful person.
15:10And you're a good sport.
15:11And we'll talk to you again next week.
15:13Sounds good.
15:14Take care, guys.
15:15You too.
15:15Mary Kay Cabot on the Make It Right Call Call, Kyle Wright Hotline.
15:18Well, is it the irresponsible decision to not trade Miles Garrett?
15:23And 60% Shador Sanders.
15:26I love it.
15:27Ken Carman.
15:28Anthony Lyman.
