00:00the football team's allowed to have voluntary workouts and they're doing voluntary workouts
00:05and that stuff's going on in Berea it's uh kicking up this week and they'll have things open to the
00:12media coming up a little later on in the week and folks will be there watching including the lady
00:17who joins us right now on the wise heart right we make it right call Kyle Wright hotline she covers
00:23the rounds for the plane dealer in cleveland.com and you can hear her on the orange and brown talk
00:28podcast she is Mary Kay Cabot Mary Kay thanks for adjusting today hey happy to be here guys
00:37OTAs they don't inspire a whole lot of enthusiasm but maybe they should Mary Kay um what do you think
00:44Todd Munkin's number one thing that he's trying to accomplish during this time of the year with his
00:50team out on the football field at least the guys who want to be there lots of installation they are
00:56installing a completely new offense and they're repping it over and over and over again and you
01:02can see that they're stopping they're starting they're doing perfect plays until they get it right
01:06uh they're they're just really really working hard plenty of 11 on 11s and that's basically what
01:12you're seeing it's different than if a team already has their offense down pat this is a teaching
01:18camp uh teaching OTAs and you see a lot of that out there um what does it matter then who's
01:29taking
01:29the snaps the I mean or are they doing it until every quarterback gets it right like what do you
01:36think
01:37well I do think that you can glean certain things I think it's significant that last Wednesday when we
01:44were out there when they were doing most of the installation uh in the the two spotting sessions
01:49where they had Deshaun on one field and then Shador down on the other field Deshaun was mostly working
01:55with the first team offense most of the first team line and receivers and whatnot and Shador was mostly
02:01working with the second team offense in those periods now they might change that up from day to day we
02:07were only out there one day uh but it looked that at least on that day uh that Deshaun seemed
02:13to be
02:14at least slightly ahead in the competition and again maybe they changed that up from day to day we don't
02:19see those other days but I did see online that it looked to me like Deshaun was blinging it around
02:26pretty good the following day uh based on clips that I saw on the Browns YouTube channel and he was
02:32hitting some deep passes to the likes of Casey Concepcion and uh Jack Stoll Jamari Thrash uh so
02:40it still seemed like perhaps uh he was maybe taking most of the first team reps the next day but
02:47again
02:47there was a very important period last Wednesday when we were out there where Shador did go first and
02:54that was the first full field 11 on 11 uh and so I thought that was pretty significant he got
03:00his chance
03:00the status case in that drill Mary Kay Cabot joining us from the plain dealer cleveland.com you can follow
03:06her on x at Mary Kay Cabot all spelled out where 32 minutes ago you posted the Janarius Robinson visited
03:14the Browns today defensive end and that in and of itself I don't think is is earth-shattering news Mary
03:20Kay but I'm glad you put it out there because we keep hearing about defensive ends and you know
03:26they're looking for another one looking to add some depth is it more than that is there anything
03:31there with Miles Garrett that you think wait a minute they seem to be really focusing on that
03:37position for any reason that could be a big trade down the road no I just don't see that and
03:44I've been
03:45consistently saying that reporting that I just don't think so I know a lot of people read a lot into
03:50Todd Munkin's very terse no when asked if he's met Miles yet last week at the uh OTAs but I
03:58still
03:58don't think that that there's anything to it I just don't I'm not feeling it uh I really do still
04:05hold
04:05true to what uh Andrew said uh when he told us last month or whatever month it was at the
04:10owners
04:11meetings that he believes that that Miles is a career Brown and I don't think they have any intentions
04:16of trading him at least certainly not this offseason it's funny though you're talking about
04:21the install and trying to learn and go to school and go to this and then you have guys that
04:26aren't
04:26here I mean does it matter that much on defense as it does on offense well it normally it might
04:34if
04:34you were installing a completely new defense but they're playing the exact same defense even though
04:39they have a new defensive coordinator so I don't think it matters as much to the defense as it does
04:44to
04:44the offense right now I mean it's important to be here but for Miles Garrett as we've talked about
04:49so many different times he marches to his own drummer he does his own thing in the offseason
04:54these are voluntary OTAs uh he follows that sort of to the letter of the law and and he'll be
04:59here
05:00when it matters and when he has to be at mandatory minicamp
05:05Quinchon Judkins will he be healthy at the beginning of the season do you are you confident that
05:10if he's healthy he's the guy he's definitely the guy and he looks really good so yes I think he's
05:17going to be ready by the beginning of the season and you know they might not give him 25 carries
05:22in the first game uh or maybe they will I mean some people heal really fast and and just come
05:29back
05:29really strong from their surgeries and injuries and maybe he's one of those guys but I do think
05:36he'll be ready for the opener and I do think he will play a significant amount I don't know if
05:40it
05:40will be quite as much as if he wasn't coming off of a dislocated ankle and fractured fibula but he
05:46will be out there and he'll make a big impact what did you think of those wide receivers and who
05:50which wide receivers were running with the ones especially the rookies were they with them were
05:54they running with the ones start there no they weren't they weren't in the practice that we were out
05:59there they were running with the um second team so they got more time uh most of the time with
06:06um
06:06in the 11 on 11s they were mostly with Shador but then in seven on sevens they mixed it up
06:12a lot and
06:12that's when you saw uh that's when you saw Deshaun Watson fire that really nice deep touchdown pass to
06:18Denzel Boston it was a great throw it was a great catch and I'm just writing some OTA stuff right
06:24now
06:24and I can see that catch holding up in live action as long as Deshaun has a little bit of
06:31time to
06:31throw because that was Denzel Boston going up against two really good defensive backs starting
06:36cornerback Tyson Campbell and he's got really good sure hands and I think those guys are going to make
06:41a tremendous connection. Mary Kay Cabot joining us from the plain dealer cleveland.com I want to go back
06:47to defensive end for one second um they have a guy in there looking at today would you take a
06:53would you
06:53take a run at Joey Bosa who's a free agent long time charger was with the Bills last year
07:00well I think the Browns usually do kick the tires on any really good available veterans that are out
07:07there so if they haven't done so yet they probably will whether or not they actually go ahead and and
07:14sign him that of course remains to be seen but I'm sure they've probably already checked into it
07:20inquired thought about it talked about it don't know how deep or far it went uh but you don't let
07:26a name like that go by without at least giving it some thought uh Mary I I think in these
07:32sessions the
07:33most important thing right now for this team outside of the quarterback is that offensive line and getting
07:37them in sync just uh the philosophy of the team right now about the offensive line and getting them
07:43in rhythm and just just your thoughts on on offensive line as well just because you got five new faces
07:49that could be playing those spots maybe five new plays if depending on you know maybe one spot or
07:54two but I just your thoughts on that offensive line well I was a little bit surprised that Spencer
08:00Fano was not working at left tackle when we were out there but they're letting these guys the rookies
08:05uh just start to learn the playbook and get up to speed they're so new to it all of the
08:11veterans have
08:11been there since April 6th or most of them have been there since April 6th and these guys have only
08:18been
08:18around for a couple of weeks so uh they're letting these guys kind of get their sea legs a little
08:23bit before they throw them in there uh into first team action and maybe also there's a method to their
08:27madness in terms of just having them earn their spots a little tiny bit uh but maybe we'll see Spencer
08:34out there at left tackle uh when we go out there tomorrow I'm curious to see if that's one of
08:38the things
08:39that we will see and maybe we will see the rookie receivers more with the first team tomorrow
08:45um but as of yet they haven't really done that and uh I do think that as soon as they
08:51can they do
08:52need to get those five guys working together in concert Mary Kay I'm going to give you the answer
08:58before I ask the question I would think it's Dylan Gabriel if this team doesn't keep four quarterbacks
09:05around who's the odd man out that's tough to say that is tough to say I think some of it
09:11is going to
09:11depend on how quickly Palin Green comes up the learning curve and shows what kind of potential
09:18he has and whether or not they think that they could possibly uh you know get him to the practice
09:24squad if they needed to so I think this all remains to be seen if you want him to be
09:30uh the quarterback
09:31who can go out there and play some wildcat for you then you're going to have to put him on
09:35the 53 man
09:36roster but he has to show that he's he's ready for that and that that's actually going to work out
09:42for
09:43them so um you know we'll see how that goes I think part of it again is up to Kalin
09:48and and how how
09:50quickly he can assimilate the new offense and things like that um because you know Dylan has merit as a
09:57quarterback in the NFL he's already showed he can go out there and hold his own in very tough
10:03circumstances last year as a rookie and I do think that uh that someone I mean you might be able
10:10to
10:10even get something for Dylan so we'll see I you know I don't know how that's going to go but
10:15um
10:15but it definitely has to play out and they have to figure out how they want this whole thing to
10:22to
10:22work out in terms of the quarterback depth chart which Todd now backed off a little tiny bit on
10:28in terms of making you know wanting to have that done by the end of spring ball you know now
10:34he's
10:34saying you know we'll have it set by by Jacksonville so I guess he does he probably just doesn't want
10:38to
10:38be asked about it every week you know Mary Kay you said something last week about Dylan and I agreed
10:43with you on I I agree with you on that point and it's that he didn't get a great chance
10:49to show
10:50himself either last year and then Shadour didn't because they ended up splitting the time
10:55and I just wonder if if if the front office if the new coaching staff look at last year and
11:03think
11:03this should be a wide open competition I I know Shadour and Deshaun are going at it right now
11:09but I wonder if if Dylan should be involved in this to it to maybe to a greater extent than
11:15he is right
11:15now well you know it'll be interesting to see what happens when they do get to training camp
11:21but because they just don't have really enough reps to go around or at least enough starting reps
11:29quality reps to go around Dylan at this point just really isn't going to get the chance
11:35to show how far he's come and that's probably unfortunate because I think like I said before
11:42I think that there's something to Dylan and I think that given the right opportunity in the right
11:48situation he can be a player that might end up hanging around in this league for a while so
11:55you know he's not probably going to have that chance to excel or shine in the offseason program
12:01or even necessarily in training camp but when you put him out there perhaps in some preseason games
12:08if he shows out pretty well another team might just see something in him
12:14always a pleasure enjoy the week you too we'll have plenty of talk to talk about I'm looking
12:21forward to it Mary-Kate thank you very much take care Mary-Kate Cabot joining us
