A violent clash between two groups inside Chandaka Police Station in Bhubaneswar has led to the arrest of 13 persons, while a video of the incident has gone viral, raising serious concerns over security within a police facility.

The incident took place on March 21 and is linked to a long-standing property dispute in the family of hotel owner Pitabas Paltasingh. The conflict involves the son of his first wife and the children of his second wife, who have reportedly been at odds for several years.

According to reports, the dispute initially escalated outside the police station, where members of both groups allegedly engaged in a physical altercation and attacked each other with weapons. The situation then spilled into the police station premises, where the clash continued in the presence of police personnel.

At the time of the incident, only two constables and a duty officer were present, with no senior Officer on duty, raising questions about security and response capacity.

Police later clarified that at around 11:19 pm, an injured man, Soumyaranjan Paltasingh, entered the station with his wife, already bleeding from injuries sustained earlier in the village clash. Within seconds, members of the rival group also arrived, leading to a heated argument that escalated into pushing and scuffling.

Officials stated that police personnel intervened promptly and brought the situation under control within about 30 seconds. They also clarified, based on verified CCTV footage, that no stabbing or knife attack took place inside the police station, and no weapons were used within the premises. The blood seen in the video was due to injuries sustained earlier.

However, the viral video shows members of both groups brawling inside the station, which has triggered public criticism and debate over law enforcement lapses.

Police registered two FIRs in connection with the case and arrested 13 individuals, including women and members from both sides of the family. The accused include the man, his two wives, their sons, and other relatives. Following rejection of their bail pleas, all have been remanded to judicial custody.

Police sources indicated that the family had a history of disputes, and similar incidents had required intervention earlier. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case and examining all aspects, including prior clashes.
