A disturbing video from Mahmudpur village under Hafizpur police station limits has triggered widespread outrage after a young man was seen lighting a hookah using flames from a funeral pyre.

The incident took place during the last rites of Munni Devi (75), who was cremated on Friday (10 April 2026) at the village cremation ground.

According to reports, after the funeral rituals were completed and relatives had left, four youths — identified as Abhishek, Vineet, Arif, and Moin — allegedly arrived at the site carrying hookahs.

One of them used the burning pyre to light the hookah while the others recorded the act on video, which was later circulated widely on social media.

The visuals, showing the youth sitting near the pyre and using its flames, have deeply hurt public sentiments, with villagers calling the cremation ground a sacred place and demanding strict action.

Taking cognisance of the viral video, Praveen Kumar, station in-charge, confirmed that police have arrested one of the accused, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects.

Police stated that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
