00:1219, one nine, students were arrested and charged in connection with incidents of school violence at schools in Trinidad and
00:21Tobago.
00:21Mr. President, the presence of police officers within schools is intended primarily as a preventative and protection measure aimed at
00:36deterring acts of violence
00:38and ensuring that any incident which threatens the safety of students, of teachers and staff are addressed promptly and in
00:48accordance with the law.
00:49The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will continue to work collaboratively with the Ministry of Education, school administrators and parents
00:58in strengthening measures aimed to preventing school violence.
01:04Commissioner Police Alistair Guevara has sought to give an assurance that police are committed to ensuring a safe and secure
01:11environment
01:11for students sitting the secondary entrance assessment this coming Thursday.
01:16He is also extending best wishes to them.
01:20Through a message on the TTPS's Facebook, Guevara told pupils that they have reached an important milestone in their journey,
01:27which can feel like a big moment.
01:29But he also urged them to remember that it is but one step towards their future.
01:34The top cop called on the students to approach the exam with confidence stemming from their preparation
01:39and to put their best foot forward.
01:41He has also advised them to remain calm, focused and positive.
01:45However, Guevara said, quote,
01:47Always remember that success is not defined by one exam, but by your character, your determination
01:53and the choices you make as you grew.
01:55Continue to uphold values such as honesty, respect and integrity,
02:00as these will guide you far beyond the classroom.
