19 VENEZUELANS DETAINED

A Point Fortin man and 19 Venezuelan nationals who are  in the country illegally, have been arrested by officers of the South Western Division.

00:00A 30-year-old Point 14 man was held after five Venezuelan nationals, ages 21 to 33, were found at his home.

00:08Meanwhile, in the Aran district, a total of 14 Venezuelan nationals, ages 5 to 40, who entered the country illegally,

00:16were found hiding behind a pirogue on a beach last night by personnel of the Marine Interdiction Unit.

00:22Officers of the Aran police station were contacted and the foreigners were detained.

00:26Immigration Division and the Children's Authority personnel were also contacted.

00:32Meanwhile, seven people were arrested and three firearms and quantities of ammunition and cannabis seized

00:38during anti-crime operations conducted in the Southern, Southwestern and Port of Spain Divisions this weekend.

00:46In the Southern Division, officers proceeded to the South Park District around 7 p.m. on Friday

00:51and arrested two male suspects and seized a pistol and three rounds of ammunition from a white Nissan Tidamoto vehicle.

01:00The suspects, ages 33 and 32, are both from Princess Town.

01:04And on Saturday, two male suspects, ages 30 and 33 of New Grant and Princess Town respectively,

01:11were arrested for trafficking of cannabis.

01:14Two others were also arrested for the offenses of possession of cannabis and possession of cocaine for trafficking.

01:21And during a state of emergency operation around 6.13 a.m. on Saturday in the Point 14 district,

01:28the home of a male suspect was searched and a revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition

01:33and a quantity of cannabis were seized.

01:37Officers of the Port of Spain Division conducted an exercise yesterday in the Belmont and Besson Street districts

01:42during which they seized a quantity of cannabis.
