00:00At this stage, what the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service wants to do is to always ensure
00:06that law and justice, they work hand in hand, and members of the public continue to abide
00:16by the law, follow the instructions of the Trinidad and Tobago police officers, and ensure
00:23that justice is done.
00:24Acting Superintendent of Police Rajesh Lal said the law and justice works hand in hand.
00:31He said once persons are arrested and brought before the court, the court would have the
00:36final say.
00:37He spoke on Thursday at the Chauvin Road police station, where a police prosecutor's program
00:42was held for officers, led by High Court Judge Gillian Lucky.
00:47So what we want to ensure is that all evidence is presented to the Honorable Courts for the
00:54courts to make a decision.
00:55In relation to anything where persons have been arrested, at the end of the day, it is
01:01the court to make a decision, and we will stand by the decision of the courts.
01:06Justice Lucky told the media it was equally important as Tobago officers were trained in
01:12the preparation of statements, the developing of files in matters, and the coalition of data
01:19data and evidence to be brought before the courts.
01:22And to ensure that at the end of the day, we answer those questions that police officers
01:26who are on the field are asking as it relates to ensuring that they conduct fair investigations,
01:32that they are able to convert intelligence into admissible evidence.
01:35Of course, the admission of evidence is done by the judicial officer, but in terms of getting
01:41all that is required and meeting the criteria to ensure that when cases are put together,
01:46they are solid cases based on fair investigations.
01:51Justice Lucky said the training was a step in the right direction.
