A shocking case of alleged fraud and deception has emerged from Gorakhpur, where a man posing as an IAS officer is accused of marrying multiple women and extorting money from families.

The victim’s father, who is partially paralysed and bedridden, has alleged that the accused, identified as Pritam Kumar Nishad, duped his family by posing as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and married his daughter after taking ₹15 lakh under the pretext of wedding expenses.

How the Trap Was Set
According to the family, the proposal came through a community group where Nishad’s profile claimed he was a 32-year-old IAS officer posted in Manikpur. The profile stated that no dowry was required, which convinced the family to proceed.

The accused later visited Gorakhpur in December 2025 and finalised the match. The family also travelled to Etawah to verify details, where Nishad showed them a house in Ludhiyat Mohalla and claimed to live there with his sister.

However, just before the wedding, he allegedly demanded ₹15 lakh, citing expenses for hosting “VIP guests”.

Wedding and Growing Suspicion
The marriage was held on March 11, 2026, at a marriage hall in the Cantt area. The accused arrived in a car bearing a “Government of India” label and was accompanied by an assistant, further strengthening his claims.

During the ceremony, some relatives grew suspicious as he failed to give clear answers about his posting and background. Despite this, the wedding rituals were completed, and the bride’s farewell took place on March 12.

Truth Comes Out
Soon after, the family began receiving calls from people in the accused’s village, who claimed that Nishad was not an IAS officer and had a history of fraud. They alleged he had married multiple times—reportedly up to 25—by deceiving families.

Alarmed, the bride’s family rushed to Etawah, where they confronted the accused. Under questioning, he allegedly admitted that he was not an IAS officer and had taken leave from a private job to carry out the marriage.

The family also claimed that the house he showed lacked basic amenities, further exposing his false claims.

Police Action
A complaint has been filed at Ekdil Police Station in Etawah, where police reportedly found that at least two other cases had already been registered against the accused. Another complaint has been lodged in Gorakhpur.

SSP Dr. Kaustubh confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. “Appropriate action will be taken after verifying the allegations,” he said.

The victim’s father has vowed to pursue justice, stating he will not rest until the accused is punished for ruining his daughter’s life.
