00:00Inside the trade that wasn't, Jeremy Fowler along with our buddy Todd Archer,
00:07Cowboys insider for ESPN, going inside the Raiders-Ravens deal that fell apart.
00:14Look, I don't really care about the Baltimore side of things.
00:16I want to know what the Cowboys offered, and I want to know what Dr. Cooper had to say about
00:21it,
00:21and I want to know what the asking price is.
00:24Did you find a lighter, Chow? Did you look?
00:26I didn't look.
00:28Go ahead and check that out for me.
00:29If you may have a lighter in the backpack, I do not have one, and I'm very disappointed about it.
00:36Maybe it's meant to be. Maybe I shouldn't light it.
00:38Maybe I shouldn't relight it here for Max with this emotional roller coaster.
00:43We can go ahead and do without.
00:46Todd Archer on what the Cowboys offered.
00:51How many times did it go back and forth?
00:54Oh, we got one.
00:55All right, you tell me whether it should be lit.
00:57All right, you tell me if there's enough hope in this segment.
00:59For me to go ahead and light this up on the fan cam.
01:02Baltimore beat out the Cowboys, who were also seeking an elite pass rusher.
01:06Initial offer centered on the Cowboys' second first-round pick at 20,
01:13and Osa Odigizua.
01:16The Cowboys then offered their top...
01:20So I love that.
01:2120 and Osa.
01:22That got it done initially.
01:24The Cowboys then offered their top first-rounder at 12,
01:29and a third-round pick.
01:32Now, did they have a third before the Osa deal?
01:35I didn't believe so.
01:37So that would have been a future third.
01:39All right, so it moved from...
01:41Which is a fourth.
01:41And this is from Archer, which is a fourth, right.
01:44So it went from 20 and Osa to then 12 and a third.
01:50Ultimately, the Cowboys moved to number 12 and their second.
01:54But the last two offers did not include Odigizua.
01:59So it got to 12 and their second, Choppy.
02:03You got the offers written down?
02:05Yep.
02:06All right.
02:06So it's a future second, right, because they don't have one this year.
02:09Right.
02:11Which is the third.
02:12Yeah.
02:13Okay.
02:14So, obviously, we have Baltimore coming in and topping that.
02:19Trey Hendrickson, if you're like, why didn't the Cowboys just go get him?
02:23His initial ask was 40.
02:28Didn't he sign for 28?
02:30Yeah.
02:32After it came back that it was 40, teams were like, have fun with that.
02:36Well, then lower the asking price.
02:38And then Trey dropped it on down.
02:40I mean, he cut the asking price.
02:42Yeah, quick.
02:43By 30%.
02:44And did it quick.
02:46All right.
02:48Crosby's knee was a concern that was discussed between the Ravens and Raiders
02:52before the trade.
02:55During Crosby's eventual meeting with the Ravens, he said the energy felt off.
03:00In addition to their own doctors, the Ravens had a handful of doctors outside the organization
03:06weighing in on Crosby's knee, including Dan Cooper, a renowned knee specialist and the
03:12Cowboys team doctor.
03:14In the past, Dallas has leaned on Cooper's expertise in making decisions like drafting
03:18Jalen Smith in the second round and drafting Savone Revell last year in the third.
03:24But Cooper was not the primary voice in determining whether Baltimore should back out of the deal.
03:32Let me say this again.
03:34The Dallas Cowboys doctor, according to Todd Archer and others, was not the primary voice
03:40in determining whether Baltimore should back out of the deal.
03:44The consensus was that Max would be able to play in 2026.
03:48The Ravens' concern centered on the uncertainty of the durability after a couple of seasons
03:54in Baltimore because of the degenerative issue in his knee.
04:00Got everything so far?
04:01Got everything.
04:02All right.
04:03Initial reactions before we talk about whether Max is going to stay there.
04:07How do you feel about what the compensation got up to?
04:10If I told you, breaking news, we come in, the Dallas Cowboys have traded 12 and a second
04:17for Max, you would have said what?
04:20I would have been a little, I would have been like, nah.
04:23And look, and I understand, so they had four picks.
04:28My whole thing is when I got the four picks, I could get high quality players, or at least
04:34the opportunity at high quality players, at the cheapest possible price.
04:40They then would have done and taken 50% of those picks and put them into known commodities
04:48that are expensive.
04:50That's probably bad roster cap management.
04:54Not to say that Quinn isn't a great player or Max isn't a great player, but I wanted to
05:00come away with those four picks with four first-round drafted players, or more, possibly
05:07trading down, or using them to trade up if I wanted to trade up, not using half of them
05:13on known commodities.
05:14So I would have been, nah, I'm out.
05:17I would if Bobby would have said.
05:19He'd have been in.
05:20With a second.
05:21Yeah, he would have.
05:21Because he was in at 12.
05:23Yeah, I think he would have been in with the second.
05:26Definitely in with the third.
05:28Pepe, 12 and a second.
05:30Would you have been in?
05:31I was fine with just 12 earlier on when we did this exercise as well.
05:35So 12 and a second, absolutely.
05:36You still get one first-round pick.
05:38You can even trade back and get some more pieces later on the draft.
05:40I'm fine with it.
05:41Give up one of the first-round picks.
05:42Don't give up both of them.
05:44Okay.
05:47So Max is, and I'm learning this following him for a short time on social media.
05:51He is a very, I think he's an emotional loyalty type dude.
05:56He seems like he would get burned.
05:57Like my wife said, I would get burned.
06:00And just like, I'm going to trust this person.
06:02This is meant to be.
06:03This feels right.
06:04How long is that going to last?
06:06This little Kumbaya Vegas reunion.
06:08He didn't want to play there, it says in here, because he's sick of losing.
06:13And now he's like, oh, the star.
06:15Max is one of the, I guarantee you, he aligns the stars.
06:20Oh, yeah.
06:20He looks at horoscopes.
06:22Oh, yeah.
06:22He's a horoscope guy.
06:23He waits for the next supermoon before he makes decisions.
06:26Yeah.
06:27And he's like, this is meant to be.
06:29This is the galaxy telling me that I need to be a Raider.
06:33Well, y'all are still going to suck.
06:34All right.
06:34So get that out of your mind and go back in there and demand out.
06:39And you still don't want to play for them unless you end up going to Philadelphia.
06:43So that's the whole Kumbaya feeling right now.
06:46Now, the Raiders saying, we probably wouldn't assign two defensive ends.
06:52We're honoring the free agent deals that we're making.
06:55We may have to change the draft strategy of 14.
06:58We probably wouldn't assign two defensive ends if we knew that Max was coming back.
07:03So that's the issue of them maybe having buyer's remorse.
07:08Now, where do we go from here?
07:10And how do you feel about Dr. Cooper not being the main voice?
07:14And everyone kind of sounding like they're agreeing that he's fine for this season.
07:20Yeah.
07:21Doesn't that fit the window?
07:22It does fit the window.
07:24But I don't think for a first-round pick, it fits the window.
07:28If you're going to trade a first-round pick, I don't think you're trading that pick for two years of
07:33a player.
07:33Right.
07:35I agree.
07:36Teams continue to check in on his availability, but as of now, the Raiders' asking price remains high.
07:43And given what has happened, teams are hesitant to meet it.
07:46Multiple Raiders sources said they would be surprised if Crosby was traded in the short term.
07:51Perhaps the window of opportunity opens closer to the draft, but the team is certainly keeping an open mind on
07:57retaining him.
07:59When the Ravens backed out of the trade, Dallas contemplated getting back into the chase.
08:05Although the Cowboys did not 100% close the door on a Crosby trade, a source said they were not
08:12re-engaging in talks.
08:15So, that is where we stand.
08:18With that said, Crosby could again see himself at the center of trade talks when the deadline comes in November,
08:24if he's playing at a high level.
08:26But Vegas is struggling.
08:27A contending team could entertain the idea of acquiring him to help make a deep playoff push.
08:32For now, he's a Raider.
08:34So, what are you thinking about this moving forward, if at all, if you are the Cowboys?
08:41I'm okay with the fact that they didn't go through with him.
08:46I would probably leave it where it is.
08:49I would probably leave it where it is right now.
08:53He's obviously a good player.
08:56I'm not as worried about the knee as Baltimore is.
09:01I'm certainly worried about it in year three.
09:04But year one or two, I'm not.
09:07But I'm also not really willing to give up a first-round pick for that.
09:10So, I'm okay with them just saying and walking away.
09:14And be like, eh, not something we want to do.
09:16If they go do it, I mean, am I going to throw a stink about it?
09:19No.
09:20I'm not going to just be, like, rioting out here in the streets.
09:23What's your offer?
09:24And what's the ceiling on the offer?
09:29JP, I'll give you time to think about it.
09:31Total JP.
09:32Woo!
09:32This would have been a disaster.
09:34They got saved.
09:35Brandon, Cowboys are playing poker.
09:37Ain't no way this man is back.
09:38And you on record giving up assets.
09:41Now they wait.
09:42Let them call back.
09:44Did Sharif say he wants his kid to quit baseball after one game?
09:47Yes, Frankie.
09:48I'm joking.
09:51And now the Raiders got nothing.
09:53LMAO should have taken the Cowboys deal from Chris J.
09:56Sharif, would you still do any of those deals now?
09:58I think I would.
10:00Oh, yeah.
10:00There's the other thing.
10:01Like, what are the chances that the Cowboys do the deal and then send them back?
10:05Like, with the Cowboys, you know what I mean?
10:06Like, in the same situation, would the Cowboys have sent them back or they've been like, no, we're not going
10:09to do that?
10:11But, look, I think that you try to, if you're going to make this move, you've got to play on
10:15the fact that he was already sent back.
10:17He's damaged goods.
10:19And you've got to try to lowball him as much as you can.
10:21You know, if that's a two, whatever.
10:23Let's say it's a two.
10:25For a second round pick, just a two?
10:27Yeah, let's say it's a two in Philly.
10:30You find out Philly, they call you back and say the Eagles are offering their first.
10:36I let Philadelphia make that mistake.
10:39How do you know it's a mistake?
10:41Well, a long-term mistake.
10:43Yeah, long-term mistake.
10:44I let them make that long-term mistake.
10:45So they call back and they say, Philadelphia, because this is what happens, right, with the Micah stuff, the Eagles
10:52got involved.
10:54Do the Eagles have a first?
10:57Where's their selection here?
10:58They should, right?
10:59Oh, here it is.
11:0023.
11:01They call back and they say the Eagles are offering 23.
11:04Then maybe you say, okay, we'll just offer 20.
11:06We'll just offer 20.
11:08Maybe you come back and say that.
11:09That may be your extenuating circumstance.
11:12All right.
11:12What do y'all think?
11:14Should I relight this or no?
11:15Keep it out.
11:15I think you gave a keep it out.
11:17I'm keeping it out.
11:19I'll maybe keep it in my hand, but keeping it off.
11:23Not relighting it.
11:24You?
11:24I'm glad.
11:25I'm glad that, yeah, I'm a...
11:27Man, I just want the excitement.
11:30You know, I want something galvanized.
11:31The window.
11:32What about the window?
11:33The window.
11:34You guys are talking to me about the window.
11:35What if they're operating in the window?
11:38We shouldn't even be sitting here talking about what you want out of your, you know, fifth year option first
11:43rounder.
11:44Well, no, but I mean, you still got to feel the team afterwards.
11:47That's the idea.
11:48I would have been, I would have been upset at 12 and a second.
11:52Yeah.
11:53I would not have been happy about that.
11:55I would have been, I would have been happy with, I would have, well, 20 and Osa, we knew that
12:03was an offer.
12:04And then 12 and a third.
12:07And then it got to 12 and their second.
12:11And what's Vegas going to accept now?
12:13Like, what's the price?
12:15That's the thing that's going to make this really difficult.
12:17Unless the team gets desperate.
12:19I mean, I think if somebody offers them a one, they're going to probably take it at this point.
12:23Oh, yeah.
12:23Somebody came up with it when he'd already been returned.
12:27You know, when they did the free shipping return from Amazon.
12:30Yeah.
12:31Then, although I guess it maybe wasn't free shipping, but they did the return.
12:35You got to take what you can get.
