00:00Welcome to Fabulous Fables.
00:02What happens to people who don't keep their promises?
00:05Let's find out in the classic story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
00:10Once upon a time, there was a bustling German town called Hamelin.
00:15The people of Hamelin enjoyed great prosperity,
00:18but they were troubled by a serious rat infestation.
00:22The rats were everywhere.
00:23They were so bold that they ran around in broad daylight
00:27and even attacked humans.
00:30The townspeople had tried everything.
00:33However, the more rats they got rid of,
00:36the faster they seemed to multiply.
00:39One day, a strange man walked into the Hamelin town hall.
00:43Known as the Pied Piper,
00:45he could play such enchanting tunes
00:47that even animals would stop and listen.
00:50I can make all the rats go away if you pay me a thousand silver coins,
00:55the musician said confidently.
00:57Since they were at their wit's end,
00:59the town council agreed to the deal.
01:01That evening,
01:03the Pied Piper stood at the center of the town square,
01:06raised his flute,
01:07and started playing a haunting tune
01:09that echoed through the streets.
01:11Before long,
01:13rats of all sizes emerged from their hiding places
01:16and ran toward the flute player.
01:18The Pied Piper continued playing as he walked,
01:21and the rats followed him in long lines.
01:24He led them to the outskirts of town,
01:27where the river Wesser flowed,
01:28with one last note from his flute.
01:31He made the rats plunge into the river one by one.
01:35The townspeople were amazed and relieved
01:37as they watched the rats being swept away by the current.
01:40They cheered jubilantly
01:42and thanked the magical musician for his great help.
01:46Upon returning to town,
01:48the Pied Piper immediately went to the mayor
01:50and asked for his payment.
01:52Nonetheless,
01:53the mayor refused to pay in the agreed-upon amount.
01:56It was a quick and easy job.
01:59He said,
02:00It certainly wasn't worth a thousand silver coins.
02:04We'll give you fifty,
02:06and that's final.
02:07The Pied Piper felt betrayed and hurt.
02:10He had kept his promise and rid the town of rats.
02:13But the mayor had gone back on his word.
02:16Keep the reward.
02:17He cried,
02:19You'll pay with your children.
02:20With that,
02:21he stormed out of the town hall.
02:23The people of Hamlin
02:25didn't take the Pied Piper's threat seriously.
02:28Now that the rats are gone,
02:30they went about their daily lives in good spirits.
02:33The next Sunday,
02:35they went to church in a carefree manner,
02:38leaving their children at home.
02:40However,
02:41when they got home,
02:42they were shocked to find
02:43that their children had vanished without a trace.
02:46A while later,
02:48three little girls came running back into town
02:50and brought terrible news.
02:53Apparently,
02:54the children had heard a delightful melody
02:56while the adults were in church.
02:58They went outside
03:00and saw the Pied Piper
03:01standing in the town square.
03:03The musician kept on playing
03:05as he walked out of town
03:07and all the boys and girls followed him.
03:10He led them into a cave in a nearby mountain
03:13and then sealed the entrance,
03:15preventing them from getting out.
03:17The three girls accidentally stayed outside
03:19as they fell behind the others.
03:22Everybody in Hamlin felt miserable.
03:25They searched far and wide,
03:27but they couldn't find their children.
03:29The mayor also lost his beloved daughters and son,
03:33and he terribly regretted breaking his promise
03:35to the Pied Piper.
03:37The moral of the Pied Piper of Hamlin
03:39is that dishonesty and greed
03:41can lead to devastating
03:42and irreversible consequences.
03:44Never break your promise.
