00:00Welcome to Fabulous Fables, where little stories have big lessons.
00:04Do you feel like you need to please everyone?
00:07Well, this Aesop's Fable shows you why you shouldn't.
00:12Once upon a time, on a fine summer day,
00:15a poor farmer and his son were heading to the village market with their donkey.
00:20While they were walking along the dusty road,
00:23an old man passed them and laughed.
00:26How silly!
00:27He said, why are you walking when you can ride that donkey?
00:32Maybe the donkey isn't the stupidest among the three of you.
00:37The farmer didn't like being laughed at.
00:39So, he and his boy mounted the donkey and continued on their way.
00:44Farther down the road, the father and son met a few merchants.
00:48Goodness gracious!
00:50One of them cried out,
00:51That donkey can barely walk.
00:53Shame on you for loading up the poor creature like that.
00:57How cruel of you!
00:59This made the farmer feel sorry for the donkey.
01:02He decided to get off and let his son ride alone.
01:06Not long after, they passed to women and overhead them whispering,
01:11Look at that lazy boy.
01:13He's so young and healthy, and he lets his old man walk while he rides.
01:18Feeling bad, the son climbed off the donkey and said,
01:22I'm sorry, Papa, please sit on the donkey.
01:25Although he wasn't tired, the farmer got on the donkey just to please the passersby.
01:31They hadn't gone far before they came across a group of travelers, one of whom scoffed,
01:37What a selfish man, perched on the donkey, while his poor son trudges along.
01:43Upon hearing that, the farmer quickly dismounted the donkey.
01:47He and his son looked at each other in confusion.
01:50After thinking for a while, he came up with an idea.
01:54With one big heave, he lifted the donkey onto his shoulders and plodded toward the market.
01:59As they were crossing a bridge at the entrance of the market,
02:03many people gathered and laughed at the strange sight.
02:07Frightened by the commotion, the donkey began to bray, wriggle, and kick, breaking free from the farmer.
02:13The donkey tumbled into the river, and he was swept away by the strong currents.
02:18Feeling disappointed with himself, the farmer set out for home.
02:23How foolish of me!
02:25He said sadly, I tried to please everyone and ended up losing my precious donkey.
02:31The moral of the man, the boy, and the donkey is that trying to make everybody happy is a recipe
02:37for disaster.
02:38Stay true to yourself, kiddos!
