00:00This is what remains after a massive fire destroyed Ms. Tudor's Superstore on Jack Street in Londonville yesterday.
00:07When TV6 visited the area, fire officers were still on the scene working to fully extinguish sections of the building
00:14where flames were still seen.
00:16Today, residents are calling for compensation after the blaze and a loud explosion caused significant damage to nearby homes.
00:24We were told several residents were forced to evacuate due to the raging fire and heavy smoke.
00:31Wendell Grimshaw, one of the residents affected, told TV6 his children were home alone when the explosion occurred, leaving them
00:38terrified.
00:39He said his property suffered extensive damage due to his close proximity to the supermarket.
00:45I wasn't at home at the moment. I contacted my son to ask him what's going on.
00:51He said, well, daddy, there's a fire by the grocery, which is Mitsuda.
00:56I said, well, stay put, stay inside, and let's monitor it to see what's going on, if anything's looking like
01:01it reaching close to the house.
01:02He called me back, video call, showing me all the damages done to the house.
01:07I said, wait, what's going on? What caused this?
01:10He said, yeah, a loud, loud explosion, and it busts all the glass, glass fly on me.
01:15Good thing we wasn't in the rooms.
01:17I just want to know what kind of compensation I'll be getting for this, because this is a lot of
01:23damages in my property.
01:25Inside and outside the house, there's damages all around, and, you know, trying to get at least the owner to
01:34come and view here and see something and say something.
01:38But so far, we haven't seen anybody.
01:40Grimshaw added that while he is thankful no one was injured, residents deserve support.
01:46Now, I am glad that everybody, nobody was injured in the supermarket at the same time, because sometimes I go,
01:52we all shop at that supermarket.
01:54We all support that supermarket, and we are grateful that they are around.
01:58But at the same time, you all can just close the book on people around who support you.
02:05Another resident described the experience as terrible.
02:08He said the force of the explosion shattered multiple windows in his home, and affected residents are hoping to be
02:15compensated for damage to their properties.
02:17Well, I don't know what is the containment and the storage of the chemicals and the gas tanks and things
02:25in there, but the explosion was so immense that all the windows on the house blew out on the eastern
02:31side of the house, and all of my neighbors get affected.
02:35We have a lot of damage.
02:36Let me see how compensation is for what's going on here today.
02:40TV6 News is yet to confirm the number of people employed at the superstore, and an estimate of the damage
02:47from the fire is yet to be determined, as an investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze.
