00:00The bearer of good news, on the almost eve of the Eid al-Fitr observance, Saddam Hussein announced government's granting
00:06of a lease of 3.216 hectares of land to Asger for a Muslim cemetery.
00:12He said the matter has been languishing since 2004.
00:17In 2019 or so, it was on the eve of an election that a former administration would have gone to
00:25that particular site, turned some sort and put up a sign.
00:29But yet these people did not have the legal title for the lands, therefore they could not proceed with the
00:35burial of anyone.
00:37Upon assuming office as the Minister of Land and Legal Affairs, this matter was brought to my attention, and immediately
00:42the Ministry got to work, and we were able to bring this particular long-standing issue to closure.
00:49There are development works that will have to be conducted by the Asger, and the construction of their facilities, they
00:56can do so now, because they have title.
00:59A cabinet minute does not give title.
01:03A deed of lease registered.
01:06Transferring title gives them that security.
01:11Minister in the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Saddam Hussein, says the allocation of land for
01:17the Shogonis Muslim Cemetery reflects the government's commitment to equitable access to land.
01:22Speaking at the facility's launch, he emphasized that the decision was driven by community need and not political timing.
01:31I want to give you the assurance, my brothers and sisters, this lease was given to you without an election
01:37in sight.
01:38Because this is the commitment I gave when I was appointed as the Minister of Land and Legal Affairs.
01:45That is why today I can stand here and boast that after waiting 23 years, currently workers are receiving their
01:55leases.
01:56800 of them would have received their leases.
01:58We have other persons who are waiting renewal of leases, state grants, and so on from the Commission of State
02:04Lands Office.
02:04In very short order, we have about 120 beneficiaries that would also receive their title to their lands.
02:12Minister Hussein said being a Muslim today is one of the proudest moments of his life, not only as a
02:18former student of Asshore,
02:20but also because he was able to use his office to help ensure that people can rest peacefully.
02:26He added that this is the second Muslim cemetery in Shogonis, with the first located along Monroe Road.
02:33One thing in life is certain, that we must have a place to go when we die.
02:42And in our belief, there are certain respects, there are certain regards when a Muslim bury their death.
02:51It must be done in a particular manner.
02:54The bodies must be cleaned in a particular manner.
02:56And I challenge you, Ashtia, don't let this just be a piece of land.
03:01Let it be a facility for everyone.
