00:01Welcome to Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
00:04The ultimate renovation showdown.
00:06Whose idea was this?
00:08I want mine.
00:09Take it over me.
00:11Over four thrilling weeks, creativity meets competition.
00:14That looks wicked, doesn't it?
00:15Perfect fit, oh my gosh.
00:18As determined duos battle it out to prove.
00:21I'm having an absolute nightmare.
00:23They've got the vision, skill and grit to win the ultimate prize.
00:26I haven't got a clue.
00:27I can cry, I can literally cry.
00:30The keys to this breathtaking French property.
00:34Set on the outskirts of a Normandy nature park,
00:37the property boasts six bedrooms, four bathrooms,
00:42two salons, five additional rooms to renovate,
00:46perfectly pruned gardens, stunning outbuildings,
00:49its very own orchard and even a historic bread oven.
00:53It's a lot to play for and if we lose, I'll be fuming.
00:56Three heats and a grand finale where only the best will rise.
01:02All the pairs have to do is show they have the renovation know-how
01:06to impress me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY.
01:10I think this is really creative.
01:13What a transformation.
01:14In weekly challenges designed to push their creativity and skills to the limit.
01:19The clock is ticking.
01:20Win the week and they secure their spot in the grand finale.
01:24The dream is real.
01:25The stakes are high.
01:27This is Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
01:41This week, four pairs have been competing for the chance to own this stunning,
01:46life-changing property in northwest France.
01:50Now only two pairs remain.
01:53They've slugged it out in renovations.
01:56Given that masculine energy.
01:58And petite challenges.
02:00Good colour choice.
02:02Turning stark attic spaces into cosy snugs.
02:05It's got real wow factor the moment you come up the stairs.
02:09And creating breathtaking breakfast rooms.
02:12Somewhere I would like to have breakfast.
02:14Now the greens.
02:15I like it.
02:16I like it a lot.
02:17Danielle and Martin.
02:18Well, may the best chair win, boy.
02:20Face off against the blues.
02:22How's that?
02:24No flow.
02:26Josh and Josh.
02:27We're definitely going bold and vibrant again.
02:29That's what we do.
02:30For a place in the grand finale.
02:33There.
02:33I think that's stunning.
02:34We've done as much as we could, haven't we?
02:37Only one pair can make it through.
02:39And everything is riding on one last challenge.
02:49Oh, wow.
02:51What's the size of that thing?
02:53Nervous.
02:54Excited.
02:54I'm feeling in trepidation.
02:56I don't actually want to go home at all.
02:58We are completely ready for any challenge.
03:01We came in a second last time.
03:02That can't happen again because if we want to go into the final,
03:06we have to win.
03:07That is beautiful.
03:09That's actually so.
03:11We are edging closer to winning the Chateau.
03:14It's been a dream of ours for such a long time.
03:17Every challenge, it gets more real.
03:20Whatever Max is going to throw at us in this next challenge,
03:22we're just going to go for it 100%.
03:23Just imagine.
03:24It's magnificent, isn't it?
03:27Good morning.
03:28Good morning.
03:29And welcome to your final challenge of the week.
03:32As you know, running a Chateau doesn't just take exceptional DIY,
03:37but also often requires you to run a successful business,
03:41which is why I've brought you to the picturesque Chateau de la Boutinier.
03:45And helping me set and judge your final challenge are the owners of this magnificent wedding venue,
03:51Alison and Zeon.
03:59I'm excited.
04:00Hello.
04:01Good morning.
04:02Thank you for having us.
04:04Please, can you tell our final pairs what they're going to be helping you put on for the next couple
04:08of days?
04:09There's a lot to do.
04:10We have a very big wedding coming soon.
04:13And we need as much help as we can.
04:16We need extra hands, especially for the garden.
04:20Tomorrow we have 18 volunteers arriving to help us with the garden.
04:25So it's going to be a really busy day tomorrow.
04:27But before they come, we have to prepare their accommodation.
04:31So we would like you guys to clean the Chate.
04:34And if you would do a complete turnaround for us with sheets, linen, cleaning, everything.
04:39No problem.
04:40And then tomorrow, I'd like you, if you would, please, to manage the 18 volunteers
04:45to show them what we would like to do in the garden,
04:48so that come the wedding, it's all going to be spit and spot.
04:51Oh, wow.
04:52As a thank you for our volunteers, we'd like to serve them a big lunch.
04:56So we'd like you to help us serve the lunch
04:58and to take them on a chateau tour.
05:01You'll take them all around the chateau
05:02and you'll be telling them the history of the chateau.
05:05No problem.
05:06You will be judged in your individual pairs.
05:09And remember, after this challenge, one pair will be going home,
05:12while the other pair will be taking one step closer to their dream
05:16and progressing to the grand finale.
05:19As this is such an important decision,
05:21we'll be looking at all the challenges you've competed in so far.
05:25The stakes are high and it's all still to play for.
05:28You have a lot to be getting on with.
05:31Let's make a start.
05:37Chateau DIY's very own Alison and Zion
05:43have spent four years transforming the 19th century Chateau de la Boutiniere
05:49from an abandoned wreck into an elegant high-end wedding venue,
05:54so they know firsthand how much hard work and determination it takes.
05:59Hopefully we look like swans on the top of the water
06:01and our little legs are pebbling like mad at the bottom.
06:06The Chateau has four holiday sheets on its grounds,
06:10each with its own kitchenette and ensuite bathroom.
06:14And the pairs have just 45 minutes to clean two of them from top to bottom
06:19before the gardening volunteers arrive to spend the night.
06:22Basket of linen each, bucket of supplies.
06:25The sheets are over there.
06:27I'd like it all done to tip-top standard.
06:30Off you go.
06:30Thank you very much.
06:31Our guests are relying on you.
06:32Good luck.
06:34This part of the challenge is designed
06:36to test the pair's organisational and time management skills
06:39and their attention to detail.
06:42This gets scrubby.
06:43Wow.
06:43Oh, this is lovely.
06:45Where?
06:45All crucial for running a successful Chateau business.
06:4945 minutes, it's not long enough.
06:51But let's get it done as nicely and as neatly as we can.
06:53Right, OK.
06:55In terms of the time restrictions on this challenge,
06:58you've just got to think smart and think fast.
07:01Come to the cobwebs.
07:02There's no dilly-dallying on this challenge, is there?
07:05No, not at all.
07:07I can't get these on two fingers, these gloves.
07:12Get these marigolds on.
07:13For Josh H, the challenge is a chance to showcase
07:17more than the pair's scrubbing skills.
07:19I feel good about this cleaning challenge.
07:21I'm kind of used to setting time schedules,
07:24so you'll see me turn into a bit of a drill sergeant with Josh.
07:29I hoover a lot at home.
07:32Every corner of the house I hoover.
07:35I hate a dusty, cobwebby house.
07:39Well, we had a dance studio and I've had to clean that many,
07:42many a time.
07:43Been there, done that.
07:44Got the T-shirt.
07:45Got the bleach stains.
07:47All I need now is a bit of, like, Beyonce on in the background.
07:50And we'll be good.
07:51We'll be happy.
07:52I work 60, 70 hours a week.
07:54My auntie comes and helps once a week,
07:55because of how many hours I work.
07:57My dressing room's the worst.
07:58And she says, I have a wardrobe, not a wardrobe.
08:02Well, you've got to have some floors, haven't you?
08:05We're usually quite busy people,
08:06so we don't have that much time to commit to, like, cleaning the house.
08:09So we'll do, like, a quick clean often.
08:11But, I mean, this is, like, turbo speed cleaning.
08:14I think the other team will be cracking on at speed,
08:16because it's a challenge.
08:18I think Danielle will be kind of in a comfort zone.
08:20Martin hasn't mentioned anything about cleaning,
08:22so I don't know what their roles are,
08:24whether they're stereotypical roles in that relationship.
08:27I've lived on my own for ten years.
08:28I can iron, I can clean.
08:30I do all my own washing.
08:32Right, I think we might be halfway through, Martin.
08:36Well, this bathroom needs it properly.
08:38I can't remember last time somebody said,
08:40make sure it's clean in 45 minutes.
08:46So many thick cobwebs under the bed.
08:49You won't find a speck of dirt after this.
08:53But dirt's not all that's lurking in the jeet.
08:56Oh, my God, that's a massive spider.
08:58Was it?
08:59Oh, it's massive.
09:00Oh, my God, I'm glad it's human.
09:01What do I do about that?
09:03Just hoover it up.
09:04I'm not hoovering a spider up, I need to get it out.
09:05No, just hoover it up.
09:07Can't kill it.
09:07It's too late for that.
09:09Oh, my gosh.
09:10Hoover it up.
09:10We don't have time for saving spiders.
09:16OK, I'm moving on to the bed.
09:18Hello.
09:19Smells good.
09:20Hello.
09:20Do I need to take my shoes off?
09:21No.
09:22We haven't locked yet.
09:23I'm in.
09:25To there.
09:27Oh, big spider.
09:30Sorry.
09:39That's the Yorkshire way, that.
09:44Let's get the bed made.
09:45Because they're here, I think.
09:48Can you just do it on the side of the sheet when you've got a second?
09:56Just make sure all spiders have gone between.
09:58Quick, quick, because they're coming.
09:59I saw their judgmental faces.
10:01Hello.
10:09They're there.
10:09They're there for finishing.
10:12With their 45 minutes nearly up.
10:15I think we should get moving, Josh.
10:17OK, let's go.
10:19More spiders.
10:21It's a scramble to get the sheets ready for our eagle eyes.
10:25Right, Martin, back of the telly, because they wipe the back of the telly.
10:28One sec, let me get this spider out, baby.
10:30I think the spider's the least of his problems right now.
10:33I would say not.
10:34I'm sure they're used to him living here.
10:36Can you sort the quilt out of that end?
10:39Just tuck it in as tight and neat as possible.
10:42It's not going to be good enough.
10:43Martin, it's better than this.
10:45Let's just work as a team, please.
10:46It'd be quicker for you to do it and me do other jobs.
10:49Like what?
10:50Anything.
10:51Because I know that this is not going to be right.
10:53Just make it as neat as you can.
10:56It's not even in, Josh.
10:58Huh?
10:58It's not even in here.
10:59You put it the wrong way round.
11:01It's definitely the wrong size.
11:02Do you want to try putting it the other way?
11:03Yeah, I think so.
11:05You take that side.
11:07Give it a little shake.
11:09Right there, right there, right there.
11:12Yeah, there?
11:13Yeah.
11:14Oh, there's a leak somewhere.
11:16What is going on?
11:17That bleach is leaking.
11:18Put it outside.
11:20It smells like my nan's house otherwise.
11:23Oh, my God.
11:24I'm melting.
11:26They've got like hand soap and a little cleaning.
11:28Cleaning products.
11:29They've hidden under the sink.
11:31Whereas I think it's a kind of nice touch to walk into the bathroom and see it all there already.
11:37Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
11:38What was that?
11:39I forgot it was still plugged in.
11:47Maybe.
11:47Oh, look at that oven.
11:49Josh, we need to mop.
11:51I thought you'd have done the oven.
11:55All right, guys.
11:57Come on.
11:57Time's up.
11:58We're going.
11:59We're going.
12:00Right, guys.
12:01We'd like to assess your rooms.
12:03So head on out, everyone.
12:05That was a hot panic of cleaning.
12:07I think we got it done.
12:08We might have missed the odd crumb here and there, but I think we did a thorough clean of that
12:13jeep.
12:13I tried to get all the crumbs.
12:16Hopefully it's enough.
12:18The size of this chateau is a bit scary, but what it has given us is a little bit of
12:24a taste of how fast you've got to operate.
12:25But, yeah, I suppose it's made the dream a little bit more realistic.
12:29It's not all brocants and croissants.
12:32There is hard work involved and I think it's...
12:34Brocants and croissants.
12:35Yeah.
12:43We're in a fairytale chateau in Western France, where our pairs, Josh and Josh...
12:49Do you wish you could have collapsed on that bed?
12:51Absolutely.
12:51I'm done now.
12:52And Danielle and Martin...
12:54Right, let's go.
12:56..have had just 45 minutes to clean two holiday jeets from top to bottom.
13:01Ready for inspection by chateau owners and guest judges Alison and Zion.
13:06You should take my shoes off.
13:09Attention to detail has been the Josh's calling card throughout this competition.
13:14But have they delivered this time?
13:19To start with, I have to say, I'm impressed. It looks really nicely neat.
13:22I like the way they've done the bed. That's nice.
13:25It's just, erm...
13:27I'm into detail.
13:28Let's just have a look in here.
13:31Oh, so straight to the bathroom. What are you looking for in the bathroom Alison?
13:34The most obvious things which are to make sure there are no spiders.
13:38Guests don't appreciate that.
13:41Oh no, there's a spider. Are you going to mark them down for a spider?
13:44Yeah, to me it's really important that you don't have creepy crawlies.
13:47We're in the countryside here so it's difficult to keep them down.
13:50But you do have to make sure before anyone comes in that you follow the line of the ceiling and
13:54particularly the shower.
13:55For some reason they all like to start in the shower. If I was a guest, I would be out
14:00of that shower in seconds.
14:01I always check the sink.
14:03Oh.
14:05Oh wow, that's filthy.
14:07Yeah, that's not so good. They must have thrown the bucket in there, have I?
14:11I would say I wouldn't like to see any of this here.
14:14You need to put all that away.
14:15Everything down.
14:16Right.
14:17Inside.
14:17Yeah.
14:18This, call me fussy, but I always like my wine glasses upside down so they don't get dust or bugs.
14:24A little bit of dust on me though.
14:28Oh look, actually in the top of these cabinets, there's a little bit of hair there, look.
14:34And the point is that we only have a certain amount of time.
14:39The next street guests are coming in less than an hour after the last ones went out.
14:43So you've got to be really up to speed, so you have to see this stuff.
14:48And for me, I like the bed area, I must admit, that's looking good.
14:51But anything that isn't clean, even a hair, people will pick up on.
14:55Right, shall we go and see the next room?
14:57Yep.
15:06I must admit, you already make me nervous.
15:09I just wiped my feet before I came in because I know how pernickety you both are.
15:13Having come second in the last challenge, Daniel and Martin are hoping their cleaning skills will give them a head
15:19start in this final face off.
15:23That's not quite up to scratch, I'm afraid.
15:26And what's wrong with the bed, may I ask?
15:28Just all of this here isn't right.
15:31That needs to either be tucked in properly or not at all.
15:34And I like my pillows more upright.
15:37I mean, those are my own preferences.
15:39I like this little arrangement.
15:40They've moved all the bits and pieces around.
15:42Yeah.
15:43That looks quite nice.
15:44I wouldn't have thought of doing it like that.
15:46That looks good.
15:46Let me have a look at this kitchen.
15:52Yep, that's okay.
15:55Yep, that's good.
15:57You see, I like this little arrangement.
15:59They've turned the glasses upside down, they've moved that.
16:02Right, what about the sink?
16:04Yep, very clean sink.
16:05That's a nice little arrangement.
16:06They've put everything away, it's looking good.
16:08What about this worktop here?
16:10Because I know you didn't like the other one.
16:12No, they've done a good job here.
16:13They have actually cleaned everything very, very well.
16:15Shall we go and check out the bathroom?
16:16Yep, let's do it.
16:23No offence, but you'll never get invited round my house.
16:27So what's the verdict in the bathroom?
16:30There's a critter on the ceiling.
16:32Right.
16:32There's a lot of detail gone into this room.
16:34I actually think this is, it's shining in various places, which is really nice.
16:39Just check under the bed for me.
16:41Oh God, can you hear my marble knees?
16:43You're waiting for him to get on his knees for a long time.
16:46One knee.
16:48This isn't a proposal, I don't think.
16:51Unless he found a ring under there.
16:52It's not bad, it's okay.
16:53Is it okay?
16:54Yeah, yeah.
16:54Good.
16:55So the kitchen was much cleaner.
16:57The bathroom, apart from the critter, was shining.
17:00It's just the bed that let it down really, isn't it?
17:02Yes, I'm a bit disappointed in that bed.
17:06While we have been scrutinising their cleaning skills.
17:09Ooh.
17:10The pairs have been getting stuck into some research.
17:13Wow.
17:15Tomorrow, they'll have to conduct a guided tour of the chateau for a group of volunteers.
17:20So I wonder if they do weddings actually in here?
17:21I think they will.
17:22Yeah.
17:23And with 47 rooms to swat up on, they have their work cut out.
17:27I think we just kind of like learn one or two per room each.
17:31Yeah.
17:32Although stage fright is a real thing.
17:36Josh and Josh are starting in the chapel.
17:40Which can accommodate intimate wedding ceremonies with up to 25 guests.
17:44Hello.
17:45Hiya.
17:46How are you doing?
17:46Good, thank you.
17:47We're just admiring your amazing chapel.
17:50Stunning.
17:50Doesn't everyone have a chapel?
17:52I mean, at the moment we live in an apartment in Manchester and we definitely don't have a chapel,
17:56but we do have an en suite.
17:58Here we are.
18:00How are you getting on?
18:00Okay, well, we've already learnt quite a bit already.
18:03We now need to retain it in the brain.
18:05You'll be fine.
18:06So my advice is if you can't quite remember it all, A, they're not going to know.
18:10But B, it's how does it come across?
18:11This is a chateau, darling.
18:12Come on, make it sing.
18:15Yeah, that sounds good.
18:17And then they'll believe you.
18:17As a performer, I feel like I'm quite good at learning a script.
18:21I have confidence in Josh that he can remember all of his script.
18:24And I will hopefully just be able to, like, just, like, whisper some little facts if he does forget.
18:30I feel like what he's trying to say is the pressure's on me now.
18:33He did his bit last time.
18:35You wouldn't do this in five days and 500 euros, would you?
18:39Meanwhile, Danielle and Martin are getting acquainted with the jewel in the chateau's crown,
18:44its stunning bridal suite.
18:47Oh, Martin.
18:50What's up?
18:51To hang your wedding dress.
18:52Oh!
18:54That is beyond stunning, innit?
18:56Yeah, that's a very nice touch.
18:59The tiny turret room has been turned into a wedding dress safe,
19:03for which only the bride has the key.
19:06That's an attention to detail that goes above and beyond, innit?
19:09Yeah.
19:09I've never seen that before.
19:11Hello.
19:12Hello.
19:13What a breathtaking this is.
19:16All the mouldings on the ceiling, have you had to replicate those?
19:20I've rebuilt all the ceiling.
19:23I've made all the mouldings.
19:24By hand?
19:25Myself, yes.
19:26Is that the same for the headboard area?
19:29So the headboard is the same.
19:32I think.
19:32So every bit that you see here is mine.
19:36Something to be really proud of.
19:38What do you know about this fireplace?
19:40This fireplace was never there.
19:42So...
19:42I found this in a barn in bits.
19:44Well, the marble as well?
19:46Ah!
19:49This is a big shadow.
19:50There's a lot to learn.
19:52They're very new to it.
19:53They've only just gone round for the first time.
19:56I think they're doing okay.
19:58There's a lot more to see and take in.
20:00Beautiful.
20:00Are you guys ready to give a tour?
20:03Ish.
20:04It's an integral part of running the business side here in France.
20:07We've come to understand that this last few challenges,
20:10and especially today,
20:11that there's a lot of hard work goes in behind the scenes
20:13that nobody ever sees.
20:15It's not until you're in a working chateau
20:17you realise the energy and effort that goes into it.
20:20This is not just about restoring a beautiful period property.
20:23You have to have the ability to efficiently run it as a business.
20:35We're at the stunning Chateau de la Boutiniere in Western France,
20:40where two couples are battling it out
20:42for the chance to win their own dream French property.
20:46The Greens, Danielle and Martin...
20:49Right, let's go.
20:51..and the Blues, Josh and Josh...
20:53Happy?
20:54Happy.
20:54...are being put through their paces
20:56in a series of tasks designed to test
20:59how well they'd cope with the business side of chateau life.
21:11It's the final day of the challenge
21:13and the pairs have just a few hours left
21:15to convince us they've got what it takes to run a chateau.
21:20Today being the ultimate conclusion to whether we go to the final or not
21:25is there's a lot of pressure.
21:28We are feeling the pressure.
21:29It's going to be a hard day, I think.
21:31But, yeah, we're going to kind of fight until the very end
21:35and, you know, hopefully we go through.
21:38Today, we have a gardening day
21:41and all our wonderful volunteers have come to help.
21:44So you're going to have half the volunteers each
21:47and then you've got a task in the front of the chateau
21:50because for our wedding garden we need it all weeded.
21:52You'll see the left-hand side is how it should be
21:55and the right-hand side is a complete disaster
21:57and there are a couple of flower beds at the back that also need attention.
22:01Most important, take care of our volunteers.
22:04We need them again.
22:07If everybody grabs their tools, let's make our way around to the front.
22:11The teams have just 90 minutes to organise their nine volunteers
22:15and get the overgrown garden under control.
22:18Our experience of weddings and events is that you are multitasking on a huge scale.
22:25We've got 18 volunteers so I'll be very interested to see how both pairs cope with the pressure of that
22:31and the questions and the energy of all these people coming at you all in one go.
22:35OK, follow me.
22:38We're really excited to help the volunteers today and really guide them.
22:43We've owned a dance studio and I think we're really good at managing people
22:47and making sure that they feel comfortable with the tasks that they're doing.
22:50We're going to be working on this area here.
22:52We both manage teams, but I manage a large team of people in suits, not volunteers.
22:57I think I've got to respect the fact they're here on their own time,
23:00they're not getting paid to be here, so there's got to be a much gentler approach, hasn't there,
23:04to get that done and get it done now.
23:06So, good morning everybody.
23:08Thank you very much, merci beaucoup, for aiders, for helping us today.
23:13We've got this triangle here.
23:15This area here.
23:17Somewhere in there looks like that side.
23:20So we need to be very careful the lavender and the roses,
23:23but I think anything else you'll know what weeds are, just need taken out.
23:27Stay hydrated, it's really important to make sure if you need water,
23:30and you don't want to stop, shout me, I will go and get you water, I'll top your water up.
23:34So just make sure your welfare comes first, and we pull the weeds out second as fast as we can.
23:39Yeah, good to go, team green fingers.
23:42Ooh, let's go.
23:44Bonjour, bienvenue, team Josh et Josh.
23:48OK, so we are going to garden two areas.
23:53It's got to be a dream chateau, OK?
23:56The chateau dream.
23:58OK, for the wedding.
23:59Hands in.
24:00Three.
24:02Two.
24:02Two.
24:03One.
24:05The weeds.
24:06Gone.
24:07Oui.
24:08Everyone happy?
24:09OK, let's go, let's go, let's go.
24:12It's like therapeutic, isn't it, Weedon?
24:16But it takes a long time to see the fruits of your labour.
24:19These guys are like Trojans, aren't they?
24:21Way faster than me and Martin.
24:23So I might be better placed as welfare.
24:26Does anybody need water?
24:29Yeah, I'll get the water.
24:31One thing I do want to make sure, from a welfare perspective,
24:34is that the volunteers are hydrated, they've got sun cream on,
24:37do they need hats, do they need to sit down?
24:40Some of them are pretty stubborn.
24:43If there's a job that requires heavy lifting
24:45or digging a hole or anything like that,
24:47I'm usually the first guy in there,
24:49so that people know that I'm not asking them to do anything
24:51that I wouldn't do myself.
24:54So do you live locally, then?
24:57Lille.
24:58Oh, wow.
25:00Sport teacher.
25:02That's why you're fit, then.
25:04Do you want factor, would you like 20, 30, 50, whatever?
25:0730.
25:07Get you some 30, and we'll have a little water break.
25:10I can't believe how much progress I've made already.
25:12If you're all free next weekend,
25:14if you want to come to England,
25:17I have a similar garden.
25:19Yeah!
25:20Are you ladies all okay?
25:23Yeah.
25:24Oh, I don't blame you.
25:26You're welcome, and then if you need the set five,
25:29we can do a split break if we want.
25:32Do you want to go and get five minutes in the shade
25:33while that sun cream sinks in?
25:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:37Allez!
25:38Allez, les volunteers!
25:41Allez, allez!
25:42I hope today we can show that we can be leaders,
25:45we can manage a team,
25:46and we can manage our time and manage skills.
25:50Yes!
25:51Look at that, dream team!
25:53Yes!
25:55I've got all the French people.
25:57I think we're communicating through the language of gardening.
26:02I'm used to communicating through the language of dance,
26:04this is exactly the same.
26:05If in doubt, you can just mime it out.
26:08Chop, chop, chop, pull.
26:10They've got a lot of energy, they're going fast.
26:12I'm doing the motivational speeches,
26:14I'm getting them all drummed up.
26:16It's good, it's good.
26:18Is everyone okay?
26:19My name is Speedy Virginia.
26:22Speedy Virginia!
26:23Let's go!
26:25How fast can you go?
26:27While Josh H rallies the troops...
26:29Well done, everybody!
26:32You've been here before, you've done this before.
26:35Josh W is on a charm offensive.
26:38What do you do for work?
26:39A horse rider.
26:40Oh, a horse!
26:41Really?
26:42Yeah.
26:42I've always wanted to learn how to horse ride.
26:45Where is it you're from?
26:46Lakes and Buzzard.
26:47Okay, where is that?
26:48Okay, nice, nice.
26:50What are we doing over here? Are we all right?
26:53What has life been like in France here for you guys?
26:56It's a massive change from England.
26:59Yeah? Yeah.
26:59The weather, and it's wonderful.
27:03If you need some water, just ask me, I'll go and grab it for you.
27:18How are you doing?
27:20Very well.
27:21I am so happy.
27:23And Josh is looking after you?
27:24Josh is a champion, he's very cute with us.
27:27He helps us.
27:28He's the best boss we can have.
27:30The best boss?
27:31I'm just the cheerleader helping them along.
27:33He's smiling, so he's courageous.
27:41Part of it is gardening, but also part of it is having a really fun day out at the Chateau.
27:45So what I don't want them to go away feeling like is, bloody hell, that was hard work.
27:49We want them to kind of go home and just remember we had a really fun day.
27:52Anybody else need water?
27:54Hello?
27:55Have you all got water and sun cream?
27:57They're looking after you okay?
27:59Yeah.
28:00Absolutely.
28:00Yes, Daniel's fab.
28:01Yes.
28:02Okay.
28:02Well done.
28:03Do you feel like you've had enough direction?
28:05You all know what you're doing.
28:07I like the direction.
28:08Very good.
28:09Whew.
28:11They're doing really well, aren't they?
28:13Lorna, are you being looked after, okay?
28:15No.
28:16You got...
28:17I could do some more water if you don't mind.
28:20Yeah.
28:20Did you run out of water, Lorna?
28:22Yes, I did.
28:22Okay.
28:23You want another bottle?
28:23Thank you, Phil.
28:29Thank you, Phil.
28:30They're certainly working really hard.
28:32Are you happy with the progress?
28:34They're doing much faster than I thought, actually.
28:36Well, it's amazing.
28:38It's a very hot day, not an easy ground to work on.
28:42And when you look back and you think, wow, but I think he's the oldest volunteer.
28:49They asked for water.
28:51And I didn't like that.
28:52I think that the interactions with Daniel and Martin are not probably as strong as with
28:59the two Joshes.
29:01Although I would say that Daniel and Martin are actually looking after them better.
29:05They're running for the water and checking on them all the time.
29:08But they're not chatting to them.
29:10I noticed that Josh and Josh have both got the backstories of most of them.
29:15It's important.
29:16We need to encourage these volunteers to come back time and time again if we can.
29:20A happy volunteer is a hard working volunteer.
29:23Yeah.
29:23And a returning volunteer.
29:25And they're all really engaging and leading by example, aren't they?
29:29They're working.
29:29They are.
29:30The team are leading by example.
29:31I think that's a really good point.
29:32They're not just standing there cracking the whip from the shade with an iced latte.
29:36They're actually getting involved.
29:38They've been stuck in.
29:39And I mean it's a fair bit of gardening to get done.
29:41So I'm very happy with the progress.
29:47Time's up everybody.
29:50Tours down.
29:51All in the shade.
29:52You'll be glad to know lunch is going to be served in a few minutes.
29:54So come and get cool.
29:56In just 90 minutes of battling weeds, the two groups have started to uncover the elegant garden underneath.
30:03Well done.
30:04High five.
30:06High five.
30:08I think it's more than a competition for us.
30:10Not only will it be winning a chateau, but it'll be, it'll kind of allow us to take the next
30:14steps in our lives.
30:16Like starting a family, getting married.
30:19It's beyond like winning a building.
30:21It's like winning a lifestyle and winning a future.
30:24Champions.
30:25Yeah.
30:25I don't want to go home now.
30:26We've come too close to this and we want it so much.
30:30I don't think I've ever wanted anything more in my life.
30:32Nous avons la première équipe.
30:35Yay!
30:36It has brought us a lot closer together.
30:40And it makes me realise that just the two of us is very, very doable.
30:51While the volunteers take a well-earned break, it's straight back to work for Danielle and Martin.
30:57Yeah.
30:57May we?
30:58And Josh and Josh.
30:59Josh, do you want to serve the potatoes and the beans?
31:02Who've smartened themselves up to showcase their hospitality skills.
31:06The North East?
31:07Whereabouts in the North East?
31:08North Yorkshire for me.
31:09Oh, yeah?
31:10Well, we're South Yorkshire.
31:11South Yorkshire, yeah.
31:12Yeah.
31:12If today was a normal day, how amazing would it be to hang out with people,
31:16gardening in a chateau and serving a lunch?
31:19It's only two hats.
31:20It's one way for the wife, so you won't do it.
31:21Ah!
31:22But it's not a normal situation.
31:25Everything rides on how well we do that.
31:27You've got a hard job serving the green beans.
31:29No, it's not easy to get up.
31:30Me and Josh have both never worked in catering or hospitality.
31:34Actually, we both worked in hairdressers, so we have brought out a few brews.
31:39Cheers, Josh.
31:40There you go.
31:41Yes, there you go.
31:41Thanks a lot.
31:42It's not easy with the green beans.
31:45Thank you so much.
31:47You've worked so hard this morning.
31:49Can you imagine us doing all of that ourselves?
31:51So, thank you very much and...
31:53Santé!
31:54Santé!
31:54Santé!
31:55Santé!
31:57Their final task is to lead the volunteers through the history of the chateau with the
32:03guided tour they prepared yesterday.
32:05We've kind of spent the evening reading through our facts and stuff and we're trying to memorise
32:11it like a script, like we would for a theatre show.
32:14I think our plan is for one of us to kind of be the speaker.
32:18So, I think for them to be able to focus on one person, I think would be great.
32:22I do a word association thing.
32:24So, for example, in the parlour, the ceiling was originally painted by a man called Patchit.
32:29So, I've remembered that because if you look up, most ceilings have got cracks in and they
32:33need a patch.
32:34Come on in, come on in.
32:36Danielle and Martin start their tour in the library.
32:40There's a lot of rich history with the house itself.
32:43This chateau was built in 1872 by a lady Madame Proir, which is a very beautiful name,
32:50is it not?
32:50And she was a widow, wasn't she?
32:52She was a widow.
32:52Her nephew, or her grandson, sorry, was a very keen gambler.
32:58Unfortunately, he wasn't very good at it because he lost the house to gambling debt.
33:03In 1995, a Jewish-German gentleman called Fred purchased the house.
33:10He lived here until his sudden death in...
33:15Ten years.
33:16Yeah, he lived here for ten years and his death in 20...
33:2019...
33:212016.
33:222016, sorry, yeah.
33:25But what we found interesting is the house has obviously got a lot of love and warmth,
33:28which you can feel as you walk around it.
33:30So, it sheltered the nuns.
33:31It also sheltered children during World War II.
33:33And Fred was one of those children.
33:36So, in 1995, he came back, bought the house to restore it.
33:39But he died suddenly at the age of 67.
33:43Meanwhile, Josh and Josh are delivering their tour in the bridal suite.
33:47And the house was repossessed and taken back to the bank.
33:51Along came Alison and Zeon in 2021 to the rescue.
33:56And they have spent their time sort of lovingly restoring this chateau and bringing it back to its beauty.
34:02Interestingly enough, this room wasn't built until 1890.
34:06And what's absolutely incredible for a piece of history is that actually is the document signed by the Pope himself
34:13to consecrate the chapel.
34:16And if you cast your eyes over to the bed, I think this is absolutely spectacular.
34:20It even glows with fiber optic light.
34:23So, at night, this is extra special and super beautiful.
34:27Behind me, we have this amazing shower, which you can fit probably about four people in there.
34:32It is amazing.
34:34A lot of chateaus were built for the outside aesthetic.
34:38When you look towards the chateau, there's windows evenly on either side.
34:42But there's no windows here.
34:44In this room, there is also a secret.
34:48A secret.
34:49So, this is the big reveal.
34:52With the lights on.
34:53Ta-da!
34:58With the tours done and dusted, the pairs have done all they can to secure a place in the grand
35:03finale.
35:04Who stays and who will go home now rests in our hands.
35:20Two pairs have gone head to head in Western France to prove they have what it takes to run a
35:26chateau business.
35:29They've been rolling up their sleeves.
35:31Well, this bathroom needs it properly.
35:34Flexing their people management muscles.
35:36Look at that dream team.
35:39And showcasing the chateau's charm.
35:42Come on in.
35:43Come on in.
35:44Ta-da!
35:46They've given it their all.
35:48Well done.
35:49La première équipe.
35:51Yay!
35:52But only one pair can win a place in the grand finale.
35:59And with so much at stake, it's time for me and guest judges Alison and Zeon
36:05to decide who deserves to go through.
36:09So, the first part of the challenge, the Jeets.
36:12How do you think they got on?
36:14Danielle and Martin had done a really nice job of buffing everything up and actually they've moved some of the
36:19things around that I wouldn't even have thought to put in that place.
36:22They looked really good.
36:23I wasn't so happy with the bed.
36:25The moment we walked into that room, I knew Alison would look straight into that corner.
36:31I sound as if I'm being really, really pedantic, but actually at this stage of the game, that's what we
36:36have to be.
36:36We're talking about how to raise the game to another level.
36:39And when you go into a room, the first thing your eyes do is go into a particular corner and
36:43that is the corner that I saw first.
36:45But when I saw the glasses, they turned upside down.
36:49When I saw everything has been moved into the right places, especially the sink.
36:55It's clean.
36:56On the other hand, when we went into the two Josh's room, the first thing I saw was, wow, that
37:01bed, you could cut your fingernails on it.
37:02It's absolutely beautifully done.
37:05And in the same room, the work surfaces you ran your hand over.
37:09Yeah.
37:09They were dusty and dirty.
37:10Yeah, yeah.
37:11So they're completely opposite, which is tricky.
37:14Now, what about the second part of the challenge, managing your volunteers?
37:18How do you think they got on with that?
37:20But they were amazing.
37:21Honestly, the volunteers were amazing.
37:23Everybody was amazing because when you have that number of people turn up, it's chaos and you've got to have
37:28your wits about you.
37:29And I hope they understood that this is how chateau life is.
37:33You've got to be like a swan, haven't you?
37:35Calm above the water, but paddling like crazy underneath.
37:38Yeah.
37:38100%.
37:39The two Josh's, one had a team over there and one had a team here.
37:44And somebody actually asked us for water.
37:46It's a very hot, extremely hot day, much hotter than you would expect.
37:50That was a big slip up.
37:52Interacting with the volunteers, I actually thought the Josh team did very well.
37:57They were talking to their volunteers and they were geeing them up and taking them along with them.
38:01Perhaps not quite so much with Martin and Danielle.
38:04And what about the guided tours of the chateau then? How did they get on?
38:07For me, I was with Danielle and Martin.
38:10And I was very surprised how much she knew about the chateau, about the history.
38:16You know, I don't even remember these little details and she remembered everything.
38:20So I was with Josh and Josh and I thought they did really well because they had a French group.
38:26So Josh had talked about his acting skills before and actually they came to the fore.
38:31He was really on it.
38:32He held on to the story and managed to get it across even though the language was quite difficult.
38:37For their first DIY challenge, they both took very different approaches.
38:42Josh and Josh went for something really visually impactful.
38:45It was beautiful, but it slightly missed the brief.
38:49Danielle and Martin, however, they created something that was a beautiful, relaxing snug,
38:53but the attention to detail wasn't quite there, unfortunately.
38:56It's interesting, isn't it, how conceptually one team come across as really good with a broad brush,
39:02but not the detail.
39:04And then in another challenge, they obviously upped their game
39:06because Martin and Danielle's detail was very, very good in the Gites.
39:11So that's very interesting to hear that.
39:13With the Joshes, again, it's the other way around, isn't it?
39:16They do a broad brush, a theatrical, but not quite on the brief.
39:20And because they had to here, that got them out of trouble with the audience who didn't speak English.
39:25So it's a real balance, isn't it?
39:27One minute they're up, then they're equal again,
39:30and then this is happening all the time.
39:31It's going to be very difficult.
39:33And the second DIY challenge was a breakfast room,
39:36and Danielle and Martin failed to meet the brief
39:38because they created just one dining area.
39:40They forgot that people might want to dine in pairs.
39:43Beautiful as it was, it just wasn't good enough.
39:46Josh and Josh, however, theirs was visually stunning.
39:49They showed so many different skills.
39:51They combined loads of lovely fabrics and wallpapers.
39:54It was utterly stunning.
39:56That is going to be huge.
39:57I mean, how many rooms? 47 we have to deal with.
40:00So they're going to need to have all those skills,
40:03and they're going to have to have them almost as second nature.
40:05And overall, they were the winners.
40:08Oh, interesting.
40:09So we're now looking at whether they've learned from that.
40:13The way I feel about it, they've both had a sort of an overview problem,
40:17and then they both have a detail problem.
40:18But they did it on two different challenges,
40:20so that's going to be very difficult to work out,
40:22because they're clearly dedicated.
40:24I mean, boy, have they been working hard today in all this heat.
40:27It seems to me that you think both pairs would make great custodians of a chateau.
40:33They will do.
40:34Having spent time with both these pairs,
40:36they both really, really want to be here and bring their families.
40:40It means such a lot to both of them.
40:43That's what makes this judging even more important.
40:46We're very conscious that this is a life-changing moment.
40:49So we need to make sure we pick the pair with the most skills,
40:53the most drive, the most passion, and that's going to be tough.
40:56Yeah, you don't want them to fail.
40:58It's almost too close to call, but I think we've made our mind up.
41:02It's time to go and tell the pairs that we've made a decision
41:05of who's going through to the grand finale.
41:08Let's do it.
41:26Well done, everyone.
41:29We have been so impressed with both pairs throughout this whole challenge.
41:33You guys, you did very well, both.
41:36And for me, it's 50-50.
41:39Well done.
41:49Josh and Josh, it's been fantastic watching you work so well together
41:54and you have a great eye for interior design.
41:58Martin and Danielle, your drive and passion is evident
42:01in all of the challenges you've completed.
42:04However, only one pair can go through to the grand finale.
42:16And the pair still competing to win their dream is...
42:31Josh and Josh.
42:37For us to get this far, it's like...
42:45I feel like I always underestimate myself,
42:49so I feel like it's amazing to get this far.
43:01I can't be upset with the outcome,
43:05because we're lost to a great opponent.
43:07Yeah.
43:07We gave it everything, didn't we?
43:09We did.
43:10Congratulations, guys.
43:12You can win this thing, don't you?
43:15Win this thing.
43:17It's a shame it ends here,
43:20but that doesn't mean that the dream ends here.
43:23It's still the dream.
43:24We're still going to do it.
43:26Hopefully we'll have a chateau before he gets his bus pass.
43:29LAUGHTER
43:32Get a move on.
43:34LAUGHTER
43:34Amazing.
43:36Amazing.
43:37Daniel and Martin are an amazing pair
43:39and they, you know, challenged us.
43:42They are so confident in what they do
43:44and I truly believe that they're going to have a future in France
43:46running in an amazing chateau.
43:55That was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make,
43:57not just in this competition, but in my life.
44:00I confess I did shed a tear,
44:02because I know how much it meant to both those pairs.
44:09We gave it our best.
44:11I did.
44:12Daniel and Martin, commiserations.
44:15You've been fantastic and given it your all.
44:18Wow.
44:20They did fabulously well.
44:21I mean, we were really impressed.
44:23And to be honest, we couldn't tell the difference between the two,
44:26because they both worked so hard.
44:27But actually, when we listened to all the other information
44:30about the previous challenges,
44:32we think the right decision was made.
44:34Josh and Josh, I'll see you at the grand finale.
44:38Overall, throughout this competition,
44:40Josh and Josh have demonstrated
44:42they've got huge interior design talent,
44:44they've got passion, enthusiasm,
44:46and their attention to detail has been spot on.
44:50It's like our future, it's our life.
44:52It's our family that we want to create.
44:54It's our everything.
45:04Next time, four new pairs, two new teams, and one new challenge.
45:09I'd like you to renovate the ground floor spaces
45:11into impressive dining rooms.
45:13Wow.
45:14With just six days...
45:17Ta-da!
45:18..and 1,000 euros...
45:20I think we've got a task on our hands here.
45:21..the heat is on.
45:24Who will keep it together,
45:25and who will crack under pressure?
45:27This floor is not even finished,
45:29and you want to add more to it.
45:31Is it OK for me to take a break?
45:33All right.
45:35All right.
45:50Go now.
45:52Go now.
