00:01Welcome to Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
00:04The ultimate renovation showdown.
00:06Whose idea was this?
00:08I want mine.
00:09Take it here, Marie.
00:11Over four thrilling weeks, creativity meets competition.
00:14That looks wicked, doesn't it?
00:15Perfect fit, oh my gosh.
00:18As determined duos battle it out to prove.
00:21I'm having an absolute nightmare.
00:23They've got the vision, skill and grit to win the ultimate prize.
00:26I haven't got a clue.
00:27I can cry, I can literally cry.
00:30The keys to this breathtaking French property.
00:34Set on the outskirts of a Normandy nature park,
00:37the property boasts six bedrooms, four bathrooms,
00:42two salons, five additional rooms to renovate,
00:46perfectly pruned gardens, stunning outbuildings,
00:49its very own orchard and even a historic bread oven.
00:53It's a lot to play for and if we lose, I'll be fuming.
00:56Three heats and a grand finale where only the best will rise.
01:02All the pairs have to do is show they have the renovation know-how
01:06to impress me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY.
01:10I think this is really creative.
01:12What a transformation.
01:14In weekly challenges designed to push their creativity and skills to the limit.
01:19The clock is ticking.
01:20Win the week and they secure their spot in the grand finale.
01:24The dream is real.
01:25The stakes are high.
01:27This is Chateau DIY Win the Dream.
01:41Previously on Win the Dream.
01:43Have you ever danced with a headboard before?
01:45The pairs took to the bedroom.
01:46Oh, wow.
01:47This is nice, isn't it?
01:48It's lovely.
01:49Look at that.
01:50And while the colour consensus was clear...
01:52Like a duck egg blue.
01:53Duck egg blue.
01:54Like a nice pale Parisiany blue.
01:58So committing to like a blue.
02:00Nell and Edward took it a shade too far.
02:02That looks incredibly darker.
02:05Oh, dear.
02:06Elizabeth and Sam leaned into their signature style.
02:09I'm going for Chateau Chic.
02:11While Tata and Xavier brought their bed to life.
02:13Yeah, we're making a Franken bed.
02:16In the petite challenge, the pairs tackled cushions.
02:20Gosh, this is a terrible challenge.
02:22We don't know how to sew.
02:23But in the end...
02:25Nell and Edward.
02:26It was the Navies that had it all sewn up.
02:35Now, with just three days to go,
02:38the race to create chateau-worthy bedrooms is on.
02:41Game face.
02:42Come on, go to the workshop.
02:43Game face.
02:44OK, bye.
02:44Bye.
02:45While Nell continues colour drenching the room...
02:47I am starting to feel a little bit blue.
02:53Edward's tackling my special request.
02:56Each pair must incorporate a hidden compartment in their bedroom.
03:00There we go.
03:05OK, so there's going to be a floor,
03:08which I fabricate to fit into this area.
03:11And then, using a piano hinge, this is going to lift up.
03:16And then, on this underside here, there'll be a mirror.
03:21And there'll be the Hollywood-style lights.
03:23When not in use, it's just a normal-looking chest of drawers.
03:26When you're having to do your hair and make-up, up it comes, revealing a full array of make-up,
03:33mirror and light to do it.
03:35That's the plan.
03:36I've just got to make it work now.
03:40I come from a very practical family.
03:43Dad was a fisherman, also in the military.
03:47So I've always been getting my hands dirty with things like that.
03:49I actually went to university to study engineering.
03:52I like working things out. I like figuring it out.
03:54I like making it a reality.
03:56It's always quite exciting, isn't it?
04:01After Dad left the military, for medical reasons, he ended up being paralysed.
04:04But he was always really hands-on, so whatever he was doing, I became his hands and feet.
04:10And I would do the actual physical work whilst Dad was sort of supervised.
04:14And I would help him renovate properties and things like that.
04:17We tinkered on old cars, everything really.
04:20I think he'd be really proud if he saw us here, you know, doing this.
04:35It's not bad, is it?
04:37Yeah, nice and flush.
04:44As the only pair without a bed...
04:46I think the pressure is on, actually.
04:48This feels like make or break this.
04:50We need to find a bed in this brocancy.
04:52Sam's on a solo mission to the shops.
04:54I'm hoping he's going to come back and wow me with his choices.
04:59That's a nice jaguar, isn't it? That's good.
05:04I've just seen something really nice down here.
05:10Breakfast in the mornings in the guest room.
05:13Oh, Lizworth loves these.
05:14I think they're called cicadas.
05:17They're in between a bee and a wasp.
05:18For keen birder Sam, his feathered friends are never far from his mind.
05:22There's really green finches in here.
05:25We've got seagulls but not green finches.
05:32Back at the chateau, Liz's vision is finally taking shape.
05:36Yeah, I'm really happy with the colour.
05:39I love it.
05:40I think blue's a major theme, isn't it, for everybody.
05:43I'm hoping no-one else has done panelling.
05:47I haven't heard any nail guns, so that's quite positive.
05:51Unless they've glued it on.
05:59The good thing about using polystyrene beading
06:02is that I don't have to use a saw.
06:05So this is saving time doing it this way.
06:07I know it doesn't look like it, but it is.
06:19Bonjour.
06:20Bonjour.
06:21Hello.
06:22How are we getting on?
06:24We're getting there.
06:25Panelling's going up, that's fun.
06:26It's going up, yes.
06:28Ooh, what's that made of?
06:30It's polystyrene.
06:32From a sustainability point of view,
06:35it makes me go a bit funny,
06:37but probably from a cost point of view.
06:39Yes, it's coming on budget
06:40and it means that I can kind of cut it
06:42as I'm working around the room.
06:44That is annoyingly good, isn't it?
06:46Whilst it's not good for the planet,
06:47it's good for you, the design, the room,
06:50the budget and everything else.
06:51Yeah.
06:51Exactly, yeah.
06:52We have to work within our means a little bit.
06:54I really want to hate it, though.
06:58So as the challenge has gone on,
06:59do you see yourself living here?
07:01Is the dream becoming slightly real?
07:03Definitely.
07:04I think it's become more and more important to us
07:07the longer we've gone on, you know.
07:08We've become so invested
07:09and we've really poured everything we have into it.
07:12Falling in love with it, I bet.
07:13And our eventual aim for the place
07:15is that we would get married out there.
07:17See all our friends and family here
07:19and our little children running around,
07:20so it would be lovely.
07:22That would make me very happy.
07:24Right, good luck. See you later.
07:26Thanks.
07:27As Tasha and Xavier dream of a chateau lifestyle,
07:31Sam's still dreaming of finding a bed.
07:35This is more like it.
07:37It's an attic full of furniture.
07:40I'm already seeing something I quite like over here.
07:48That could be a really serious option, that.
07:51That is lovely, that.
07:52I'd like to look at that one.
07:55Look at this mirror.
07:59And there's a mirror right by it as well.
08:03I think that has been mission complete, that.
08:05We've got the bed, we've got a mirror.
08:07I'm gonna seal the deal now.
08:0820.
08:0980.
08:10Merci beaucoup.
08:11100.
08:12Thank you very much.
08:14Merci beaucoup.
08:15Good restoration.
08:16Fantastic, yeah, merci.
08:20Back at the chateau,
08:21both Xavier and Nel turn their attention
08:23to their bed canopies.
08:28This is our ciel de lille,
08:30which roughly translated is sky of the bed.
08:33So we've got all our angles cut,
08:35and they piece together a little like this,
08:38so you get this sort of semi-circle.
08:41And that goes above our bed.
08:43There's curtains flowing from underneath it.
08:45It's very sort of traditional French.
08:47It's re-use of the side panels from the bed,
08:52which otherwise wouldn't have been thrown in the bin.
08:54Make sure we're using every last piece.
08:56So a bit of that, pray it holds,
08:58and that'll be on the wall.
09:00Just need to do it one, two, three more times.
09:04My plan is, for the beds here,
09:07it's going to go like this.
09:10Up.
09:11There's going to be a roller there.
09:13It's going to hang.
09:15There's going to be a roller there.
09:16And it's going to come down.
09:18Even in my brain it makes sense.
09:20So I should be able to do it.
09:31Enter.
09:32Whoa!
09:33The blue team in the blue room with the...
09:36There's a lot of blue going on.
09:37There is a little bit of blue.
09:38There is a lot of blue.
09:39Oh, I wasn't expecting that.
09:40But there's blue everything.
09:42Yeah.
09:42Yeah.
09:43So talk to me about this fabric.
09:44What are we doing with it?
09:45We are making a bed canopy.
09:47Okay.
09:48That's the elderly.
09:49Just to reiterate,
09:50you're putting fabric on the ceiling again.
09:52Once again.
09:53Yep.
09:53It's going to be our thing, I think.
09:55How much was this?
09:56Together, I spent 204 euros.
10:00That is a lot of money, isn't it?
10:02It is a lot of money.
10:03So for that, you've got the blue fabric we see here.
10:05Yeah.
10:06And what else?
10:07There is a handmade in France netting that doesn't look like a dushie.
10:13And if you say it looks like a dushie, I might cry.
10:16I don't need to tell you that looks like a certain something from challenge one, do I?
10:20Use your imagination.
10:23Stop.
10:26I'm going to leave you alone.
10:27Just watch that door because it is actually genuinely wet.
10:30Oh, don't touch the door.
10:31Don't touch the door.
10:31Don't touch the door.
10:32Bye.
10:35Last but not least.
10:38She's together.
10:40That is the CL dilly.
10:41Now I just need to go screw everything together in the room.
10:44Running.
10:45Always running.
10:48Look at that.
10:50Is that our first bit?
10:52So that's going to hang down on the front.
10:54Imagine on the pole.
10:55It's obviously going to look a bit nicer than this.
10:58One seam done.
10:59One pocket made.
11:00Two more pockets to go.
11:03Oh.
11:03Yay.
11:04Oh, wow.
11:05One's the elderly.
11:06It's lovely.
11:08Wow.
11:09It's so beautiful.
11:10I love all the detail.
11:12Yeah.
11:13Scrubbed up quite well.
11:14Oh, it's so nice.
11:15And it's amazing because it matches the bed.
11:18I love it.
11:19Careful with your panelling, won't you?
11:20Oh, I won't touch your beloved panelling, my dear.
11:23Just about.
11:24Oh, look at that.
11:25Wow.
11:26I love it.
11:28I love it.
11:29I love it.
11:30It's looking good.
11:31It's coming together now.
11:32The vision is coming to life.
11:34Yes.
11:42It's straight back to the workshop for Xavier, and all three pairs are tackling their hidden storage compartments.
11:49This is our bay window seat.
11:51So we're going to have a hinged top, which will open up to incorporate our secret storage.
11:58I need to finish this probably in the next hour or so, which seems achievable.
12:09I have never made anything like this before.
12:11Max better appreciate this.
12:14Because I don't really know what I'm doing.
12:19I meant to do that.
12:31As work continues on the hidden compartments,
12:33Sam can't resist a twist.
12:35I think this may well be the most intricate item I've ever made this.
12:39It'll keep the judges guessing.
12:41To access theirs, I must first solve a riddle.
12:44When you find the eye of the finch that is green, your valuables will go from visible to unseen.
12:52And the idea is you put your finger in the finch's eye to lift it out.
12:57This green finch is the guardian of valuables.
12:59No one's ever going to call me Picasso, but at least we're having a go.
13:07Meanwhile, Ed's injecting some Hollywood glamour to their hidden compartment, giving these old drawers the star treatment.
13:14To the naked eye, it looks like a normal chest of drawers.
13:19And then the reveal.
13:21Bon appetit!
13:23It's a makeup storage unit.
13:25Do you know what?
13:26I'm actually really happy with this and I do think this will form part of my daily routine.
13:32You know, just to get me looking funky fresh every day.
13:40This is being stuck together with glue and vibes.
13:44And it's going to be the finest piece of carpentry you've ever seen in your life that is not at
13:48all rushed.
13:55Right, last one.
13:56Is it going to take someone's weight?
13:58This is the big shutting off.
14:00I'll let you finish work.
14:04I'm happy so far with that.
14:06Well done.
14:07Yay!
14:08There's a gap.
14:10Oh, nicely placed.
14:12Look how much that's easy, that.
14:17Ah!
14:22Oh, it's all right.
14:23Yeah, yeah.
14:24Not only can you see out there.
14:25Yeah.
14:26And watch the breathing.
14:27If you're feeling tired, you can have a little light down.
14:31Woo!
14:32That's really comfortable, that.
14:37Right.
14:38Cool.
14:41One bench seat.
14:42Wow.
14:44I definitely need to check it's going to fit.
14:45That's the only thing.
14:46Because I've made it all out there.
14:48And that's miles away from in here.
14:50This is the moment of truth.
14:54Or...
14:55Hang on.
14:56Hang on.
14:57Hang on.
14:58Hang on.
14:58Hang on.
14:59Let's give it a go.
15:00Someone's got to test it.
15:01Someone's got to test it eventually.
15:03All right.
15:04Oh, it's fine.
15:06Well done.
15:07I think it would be the right size for the cushion as well.
15:09Yeah.
15:09Yeah, and you didn't just buy something and manipulate it.
15:12You've actually made this from scratch.
15:14Yeah.
15:14So that's amazing.
15:15Oh, my God.
15:16It's really good.
15:16It's really good.
15:20Back with the navy pair, Edward's putting an old creation to new use.
15:25So happy to see that again.
15:27The reason I brought our...
15:29Big stick.
15:30...controversial wine stand in is because I'm going to use it to hold the laser.
15:34Yeah.
15:34And I will get round and put that line up.
15:40The idea is we should have a super crisp line running right round the wall.
15:46How do you think that looks?
15:47Perfect.
15:54Hilarious that we built a great laser stand rather than...
15:57Well, at least it has a use, eh?
15:59Yeah, absolutely.
16:00Didn't really function as a wine rack.
16:01Great as a laser holder.
16:10Having the blue is lovely.
16:11As Tasha also adds a splash of blue...
16:14I'm happy with that consistency.
16:16It's not meant to just slip off.
16:18Sam and Elizabeth are taking their decorating one step further.
16:22We're now going to wallpaper in between panels.
16:25I'm really excited, actually.
16:27You've never handled French wallpaper before.
16:29Do you think it'll be dramatically different?
16:31This is my reward after doing that box.
16:34I'm struggling to open this one.
16:36Do you want me to do a little drum roll?
16:39Phew!
16:40Yeah, probably about there, yeah.
16:43That's good, isn't it?
16:44That is a wonderful feeling, that.
16:46It's a little bit tricky, because we've got to match up a pattern.
16:49No, that's not it.
16:50My eyes can't see where I'm holding it.
16:51Let me look.
16:52That one with that with that.
16:54That's it.
16:55So what we need is...
16:57Like a squiggly bit.
16:59Is it that?
17:00It's this.
17:02Yes, there it is.
17:03That's it.
17:04I'm going to hold it.
17:05Can you hold everything in place?
17:06Yeah.
17:06This is a bit...
17:07Oh, okay.
17:08It's gone all over the shop.
17:10I know.
17:10Can't hold it.
17:12No, no, no, no.
17:13Yeah, yeah.
17:13Move your arm.
17:14Which arm?
17:14This is the arm.
17:16It's just hanging on by, like, a tiny big out top.
17:19Right, sorted.
17:20Oh, my word, stress.
17:21Arms and arms everywhere.
17:24Oh.
17:24Oh, it looks lovely.
17:25That is superb, isn't it?
17:26Yeah.
17:27Good job.
17:28Well done.
17:28Yeah.
17:30Nice one.
17:33For Nell and Edward, it's time to peel and reveal.
17:37Ready?
17:38Yeah.
17:38Here we go.
17:42Yes, Eddie.
17:48It's perfect.
17:50Look at it.
17:52Well done, darling.
17:54Well done, Eddie.
17:57Oh, I'm really pleased with that now.
17:59Oh, I don't hate the blue anymore.
18:03On the head.
18:09This bed has got two slats.
18:12One at the top end, one at the bottom end.
18:14After finally sourcing a bed,
18:16now to figure out which piece goes where.
18:19Right.
18:20Oh, my words.
18:21Oh, for God's sake.
18:25Let's just...
18:26Oh, God.
18:27I tell you what.
18:28I tell you what, just lean that up on some of that.
18:30And we'll forget about that one.
18:32Right.
18:34Right, that's going to take the weight.
18:36It's very low, darling.
18:37It's really low.
18:38Is that normal, that?
18:40It's incredibly low, that.
18:42You couldn't hide under the bed, could you?
18:44It feels really loose, though, you know.
18:46Look at that.
18:46I think dogs don't do that.
18:49As long as no one ever sleeps here, we'll be all right.
18:52Oh, be careful.
18:55Canopy complete, Nell and Edward can finally see their grand plan come together.
19:00Okay.
19:12Ready?
19:13Yeah.
19:14Oh, let's have a look.
19:17Looks good, doesn't it?
19:18I'm super impressed with it.
19:19I think it looks fantastic.
19:21Yeah, it's exactly what I wanted.
19:23It looks great, Nellie.
19:24Well done.
19:24Thanks.
19:31It's the final day of the challenge, the last push before it's decided who stays in the competition,
19:36and whose Chateau Dream ends here.
19:39Yeah.
19:40It's quite nerve-wracking, actually, to think that this potentially is our last day.
19:46I do not want any regrets after today.
19:50We've got to give it everything.
19:54Anxious, apprehensive, but excited, I think, is where I'm at.
19:58I feel like I'm waiting for an exam that I haven't quite prepared for.
20:03Each day that we're here, we're pouring more and more into it.
20:06To win the dream would change our lives.
20:09It would change our children's lives.
20:10It would...
20:11It just means so much to us.
20:17Returning as guest judge is Stephanie Jarvis.
20:21Stephanie, it's the guest bedroom challenge.
20:24This has got to be one of your favourites, right?
20:26100% my favourite.
20:28Bedrooms are my favourite rooms.
20:29Beds are my favourite pieces of furniture.
20:31Why is that?
20:32Why are you so into your bedrooms?
20:33I think I like lying down.
20:34It's as simple as that.
20:36And also, when you're in a bedroom, you're in this safe space.
20:39I think to make a really welcoming guest bedroom,
20:41it has to be neutral enough
20:43so that whoever comes to it can imprint themselves on it.
20:47But at the same time, feel as though they're in a space
20:49that totally reflects the architecture
20:51and the style of the building that they're in.
20:53Now, are there any potential pitfalls?
20:56Well, aside from being luxurious and comforting,
21:00they have to be practical.
21:01Is there somewhere to hang your clothes?
21:04Is there a drawer to put things in?
21:06Is there somewhere to put your glass of water on by your bed?
21:10It's the perfect compromise between functionality and form.
21:13Has to be.
21:18For Nell and Edward, it's off to the workshop.
21:21And Nell's crafting hanging planters.
21:24I have cooked macrame before.
21:26We were having quite like a shabby chic wedding,
21:29like kind of boho vibes.
21:31And I kept seeing these beautiful macrame arches on the internet.
21:36And they were like hundreds and hundreds of pounds.
21:38And I was like, pfft, it's just some knots.
21:41I can do that.
21:42I can't.
21:43It was so hard.
21:45And I said to myself, I'll never macrame again.
21:47And here I am.
21:49While Ed finishes off their secret storage with a dab of glue.
21:53The way this adhesive works is that there's an activator.
21:58And it just does that.
22:00My dad, he would often say,
22:03if it looks right, it probably is right.
22:08So, just having a little bit of guidance.
22:15But essentially, if it looks right, it probably is right.
22:21OK.
22:22One bead.
22:23I'm moving at quite a quick rate of knots.
22:29Oh, you're such a loser.
22:36While back with the yellow pair,
22:37Sam is making use of an old cupboard door.
22:40This is going to be the top of the dressing table.
22:43There's no money left in the budget for a proper dressing table.
22:47It's the best piece of spare wood going in the wood store.
22:51And we're going to put three legs on it, made from a curtain pole.
22:54Hopefully the judges will just appreciate that we've re-engineered some wood
22:59and a curtain rail.
23:01I best go to the workshop, I think.
23:04All right.
23:05See you in a minute.
23:07It feels like the dream of being here has become more real.
23:11And we love everything about being in France.
23:13I feel like a different person being here.
23:15I feel like a bit lighter, really.
23:17And we're just loving this opportunity to work on the chateau.
23:25This was one of the headaches for today,
23:28but I'm quite happy with how it's going.
23:30I'm trying to make it as straight as possible, the leg.
23:32It feels like it's going a bit wonky.
23:38I think that looks better.
23:42I feel solid now, though.
23:45This is the test to see if it stands.
23:52I'm very pleased with that.
23:53Elizabeth is going to be thrilled with it.
23:59Tasha and Xavier turn their attention to the windows.
24:06I'm so happy with the colour of these.
24:08They're so pretty.
24:10They're very dreamy.
24:11They were only €5.
24:13Aren't they nice, though?
24:14What a beautiful colour.
24:15Right.
24:16Let's go.
24:22With the clock running down,
24:24Sam can't resist one final job.
24:27What are you thinking?
24:28Can I just ask you what are you doing now?
24:30Panelling.
24:30It's about an hour.
24:32Have you got time to do panelling?
24:33Yeah, I've got time.
24:34I have to do it now.
24:34Because I am determined to have some wallpaper around there.
24:37It would be a massive regret if we don't do it.
24:47After six days of hard graft, the deadline looms.
24:51And the chateau is a frenzy of finishing touches.
24:54This is like last minute.
24:56Panic.
24:57Panic stations that we're in.
24:59This is when I get nervous.
25:00This is like when I start all the self-doubt.
25:02The guest book's even getting a pen.
25:04Probably the most unique book in the whole of France.
25:07This is a shabby sheet book.
25:09I'm a little bit anxious that we haven't put the bed up.
25:17It's that straight.
25:32If the bed's here, I think the rug should be underneath it
25:35or you put it right into the corner and it's not.
25:37Okay, so are you thinking the rug more this way?
25:39More this way.
25:41Yeah.
25:42Got it.
25:45The finch has been quiet.
25:47Maybe he's not around.
25:48It's a sign.
25:48He's been quiet, you know.
25:49These drawers don't fit.
25:56Take measure, please.
25:57I don't have it.
25:57Where is it?
25:58Just in the bags out there.
25:59Oh.
26:00Right, I think it's riddle time, but I need a pen.
26:02How does it go, the riddle?
26:04Can't remember.
26:11Bye-bye.
26:19Time's up.
26:20Tools down.
26:21It's time to dress your bedrooms.
26:24Stephanie and I will be inspecting them shortly.
26:26Ooh.
26:27Right, tools down.
26:28That's it.
26:29Which is a good job, because there's no paint left.
26:31Hell no.
26:32This is called biting off more than you can chew.
26:37This is it.
26:39Hope it's enough.
26:43Sweaty.
26:44Yeah.
26:47Six days, 500 euros and three bold makeovers.
26:51The bedrooms now face our keen eyes.
26:56First up is Tasha and Xavier.
27:01Tasha and Xavier struck gold with the locals, sourcing all their furniture for just 250 euros.
27:09Among the bargains, 5 euro curtains, budget-friendly polystyrene panelling and a handmade CL Delis.
27:17That's quite a transformation, isn't it?
27:18This is a big transformation.
27:23Xavier's carpentry extends throughout, with the pelmets, bedside tables and window seat all crafted in the workshop.
27:30And taking centre stage, two beds fused together to create what they've dubbed the Franken-bed.
27:37This feels very French.
27:39I like the way that they have managed to pull in the colours of the bed.
27:43They've had a sort of blue-grey and they've got the pinks coming through.
27:48It's tied the room together pretty nicely.
27:50It really has.
27:52They've affectionately named this the Franken-bed, because actually it's two beds combined.
27:57And that's very clever, because quite often you don't get the length in antique beds that you want today.
28:03So, in fact, taking sides from a bed that's long enough is a really good idea.
28:07And I think they've pulled it off, though.
28:10I've got to say, that bed crown needs to be bigger.
28:12It's more of a tiara than a crown, really, isn't it?
28:15Definitely is.
28:17They've got a good eye for picking nice pieces of furniture.
28:20They do. We had a fortman for that at the local ballpark.
28:24It's a gorgeous piece of furniture.
28:26And it's practical.
28:27It's the perfect piece of furniture to have in a guest room.
28:29Speaking of beautiful sewing machine tables.
28:33They are great, aren't they?
28:34And they're quite multi-purpose, actually.
28:37Now, I've been told the secret compartment in this room is within that there seating area.
28:44Ah, yes.
28:46They have used it to store shoes.
28:50They're Xavier's.
28:51For sure.
28:53Yeah, it's secret, but I feel it doesn't have the glamour that we were looking for.
28:59I must say, I like the style of the panelling that they've gone for here.
29:03It feels very appropriate for a French house.
29:06It might look appropriate, but I can assure you said panelling is made from polystyrene,
29:12which made me very uneasy.
29:15Oh.
29:16Yeah, but honestly, when you walk in, you can't tell.
29:20Just don't touch the panelling.
29:21It doesn't make a good sound, does it?
29:23I like this fabric.
29:25So that's the cushion they made in the Petite Challenge.
29:28They work, don't they?
29:29They do. It's a really nice idea to make this area into window seats.
29:33You gain all this space, and you do want to sit there and read, don't you?
29:37It's a really cosy little nook.
29:39If I do have one slight concern, I love the individual pieces.
29:43I'm not just sure they go together well.
29:46I can see that they've tried to bring it together, especially with the use of colour.
29:49I do agree with you, though.
29:50All the different colours of wood, it's not 100% working.
29:55Right, let's check out the next room.
29:56I'm looking forward to it.
30:09Nell and Edward had a clear vision, spending over 200 euros on fabric, which they've weaved throughout the design.
30:16Ooh, that's blue.
30:19Oh, it's very blue. You're in a sea of blue.
30:23Their bold colour-drenching approach sees every surface awash in their own custom shades of blue, mixed for just 50
30:30euros.
30:32And with macrame holders filled with foraged greenery, they've accessorised using materials found around the chateau itself.
30:41On first impressions, it's very spacious.
30:44No, they've definitely prioritised space over furniture.
30:50That's a polite way of saying, where's all the furniture?
30:52But I like it. I like their bed. I like the way they've done the bed canopy.
30:57In fact, they've made a sort of wardrobe space behind the bed. Did you see that?
31:01That's clever, and that's why it feels so spacious, because there isn't a gigantic wardrobe taking up footprint here.
31:08So the fabric was over a third of their budget. Do you think that's money well spent?
31:12It's tough to say. I mean, quite often I think people renovating a chateau will find one incredible fabric that
31:19costs an absolute fortune.
31:20But I think perhaps the furniture should come first.
31:25Though I love the attention to detail of this, matching the bedspread and the chair cushions and the tiebacks.
31:33It's nice to see a bit of upholstery as well.
31:35It's really nice, and it ties the whole room together.
31:38And I guess when we talk about budget, they've saved on the wardrobe, because they've made the wardrobe out of
31:43the fabric, essentially.
31:44I've honestly never seen this before, and in a room where I cannot possibly fit a wardrobe, I would genuinely
31:51consider doing this now.
31:53It's clever.
31:54Now the obvious thing that's shouting out is that piece of stand-alone furniture there.
32:00I find myself being irresistibly drawn to it.
32:03Three, two, one.
32:05Oh!
32:06Ooh!
32:08Oh, it's a proper little dressing table.
32:12It's more Hollywood than France, is it not?
32:14Yeah, but every woman likes a bit of Hollywood wherever she is.
32:18It's impressive.
32:19I like that.
32:20Me too.
32:21Ooh!
32:22I don't like that bit as much.
32:24I'll just hide the under there.
32:26No!
32:26It's a secret storage.
32:27You can hide broken things in there, too.
32:29That's what it's for.
32:30Come on, let's go and look at something else.
32:34This is a nice little area, isn't it?
32:36It is very nice.
32:37So they had a really clever concept with the paint.
32:40They bought loads of white and a tiny pot of blue, and then just kept on mixing it to get
32:44the right colours.
32:45Now, unfortunately, the way they revisited, it looks a little bit patchy.
32:49Yeah, I can see quite a patchy area over here.
32:52I must say, I like the effect.
32:54It's almost a continuation, a modern version, of those Toile de Jouy bedrooms in France where absolutely everything, it's all
33:02the same print.
33:03So in a way, they're working in that tradition, but this incarnation of it perhaps feels a bit beachy.
33:10It doesn't scream rural France to me.
33:13No.
33:14It feels like this room is a little bit form over function.
33:18Yes, but a good form.
33:19Mmm.
33:20Right.
33:20Let's go check out the last room.
33:22It's exciting.
33:34Elizabeth and Sam drew inspiration from every corner of the chateau, echoing the grand panelling downstairs and bringing the outside
33:43in with floral art and wallpaper.
33:46First impression.
33:47Wow.
33:48Pretty slick, isn't it?
33:49A long minute.
33:50First impression.
33:53They're trademark chateau chic style extends throughout from a 50 euro wardrobe right down to the guest book.
34:02crafting their own dressing table with leftover wood they've created an elegant vanity corner for
34:08under 40 euros the fabric is nice i'm a little confused about the color a bit but i can see
34:16that
34:16with the art they've brought in the burgundy of the bed of course that's the challenge they didn't
34:21go out and buy a bed in the correct color did they no but that's why it's good to start
34:25with
34:25the big purchases first and work around those do you know what i like about this room it makes me
34:30feel calm yes it's very peaceful i think this is probably the most usable of the rooms because
34:37they're the only ones who've actually got a wardrobe and boy have they got a wardrobe they've got a
34:42wardrobe i did have my concerns that painting something so big and dark a white light color
34:49might not work but actually i think they've done a really good job they've distressed it in all the
34:53right places no they have and also if that had been kept dark it would have been quite oppressive
34:57i think in the space with the other colors going on around it what is that a visitor book
35:05welcome to the green french verdier chambre well done you to access a secret compartment work out
35:13the riddle on the next page are you good at riddles probably not no me neither when you find the
35:18eye
35:18of finch that is green you will make your valuables go from visible to unseen well this is fun
35:26i like this already i want this in all hotel rooms i stay in in future
35:32there he is there's the little green finch
35:35eye of finch okay should i lift eye of finch you've got to poke him in the eye though which
35:39feels a little bit aggressive doesn't it feels wrong oh we've got a compartment a little cubby
35:45for all your valuables that was fun that's the first time i've ever had a riddle in a guest bedroom
35:50they thought of everything haven't they yeah that's really sweet i like it
35:55i really like this so do i and i think that's actually upcycled i think that's an old door you
36:00know there's evidence where there used to be hinges that's beautiful and it matches the chair
36:04it's clever there's the natural light coming in from the window there's the mirror i quite like
36:09the gold i think the gold with the duck egg the brass it all ties in lovely doesn't it absolutely
36:14right so french screams france it just feels really coherent it's nicely thought through
36:21now speaking of french touches the paneling i love seeing paneling in a french house it just makes it
36:27feel right i'm not a huge fan of the pattern they've gone for it feels a little contemporary but i
36:34think it's really nicely done and the colour is perfect and also i really love using the same
36:39material to create that frame for the wallpaper and again working to a budget instead of wallpapering
36:44the entire wall just using one roll probably to do both those walls is a clever idea we have got
36:51an incredibly tough decision to make i'm not looking forward to that
37:00the thought of leaving is awful it's such a beautiful place to be i really don't want to go
37:05home we have left everything in that room and if it's not enough then it's not enough
37:11i'm really proud of what we've done we couldn't have worked any harder yeah there's nothing more
37:15we can do so let's just wait to see what the judges think of it
37:27i was genuinely so impressed with all three of those rooms especially when you consider the time
37:33and budget constraints it's incredible what they've done and they're so inventive
37:38they're all so different i'm i was really impressed i was charmed by tasha and xavier's room
37:45and it felt quite authentically french i've been to many a chateau bedroom that feels just like that
37:52also really reflects them as a couple in their work ethic they both give 110 percent with whatever
37:58they're doing taking on challenges like that helmet the little bedside tables they weren't perfect
38:04but fair play to them i think the finishers left something to be desired but they're just starting
38:11out as they develop their skills and develop their knowledge all of that would improve speaking of
38:16developing skills sam's attempted paneling for the second challenge running and he's evolving in front
38:22of our very eyes i felt it was much more polished than the paneling in xavier and tasha's room and
38:29not
38:29only was that paneling well designed and constructed i think the colorway worked beautifully
38:34that dirty duck egg was so peaceful and tranquil i think both of us thought that was immediately
38:40our favorite color of all of the rooms personally i probably wouldn't have paired it with burgundy
38:45but i think the bed came as an afterthought and i really enjoyed the riddle it elevated it it's the
38:51first time i've ever had a riddle on entering a guest bedroom whilst those two secret storage
38:56compartments were quite similar nell and edwards was completely out of the blue well it was actually in
39:02the blue literally it was like an art installation we were drawn towards it i liked the color wash
39:09idea you're enveloped by this blue i've actually done something similar before and of course they
39:14won the petite challenge as well those cushions were stunning yeah very very good it was a wonderful
39:19bold vision that could work in a boutique hotel by the coast somewhere but i don't think chateau came
39:25across loud and clear this is so incredibly tough but i think we've agreed on something well you've got
39:32your favorite and i've got mine but yeah i think we know what we're doing now but we do agree
39:37on who's
39:37going home we do i hate this bit it's not fun is it we should go and tell them yeah
39:43let's do it
39:54we have made our decision which two pairs will make it through to the next round
40:00and which pair will be leaving the competition
40:11welcome everybody what a fantastic challenge you should all be incredibly proud
40:18first off you all rose to the challenge and you gave us an incredibly difficult decision to make
40:23we were really impressed with all of your designs
40:30picking a winner was very very hard for us
40:36whilst the winning room had a few rough edges it ticked all of the boxes in terms of design
40:41and functionality and the winning room is
40:56sam and elizabeth
40:59oh my goodness thank you oh wow i'm in shock
41:04i can't believe it i think it's going to take a long time to sink in actually yeah i'm so
41:11excited
41:11to be one step closer we really really didn't want to go home so this is a dream come true
41:16oh my goodness well done but we're going to have a celebratory vino or two tonight yeah
41:24will the remaining pairs please step forward
41:34you both interpreted the brief completely differently and you both had unique strengths in your designs
41:43leaving us today is
41:53neil and edward
42:15Nell and Edward it's been an absolute pleasure seeing your designs come to life
42:20thank you so much thanks very much we've had a great time
42:31oh we're gutted yeah put everything that we had into the room and I'm gonna walk away being really
42:38proud of what we did I think we both agree the craftsmanship from Nell and Edward is fantastic
42:47Edward's carpentry skills are second to none and Nell boy can she sew but we didn't
42:53see that coming across enough in the final design and I think that that's maybe because
42:57they allocated so much of their budget to the fabric that there wasn't enough left for the rest of the
43:02room I feel like I'm gonna I just feel like I can't believe it really I just feel like I'm
43:16in another
43:17world yeah in shock I just have many words which is unlike me my favorite room was actually Tasha and
43:24Xavier's room I found it quirky and charming and actually really similar to a lot of chateau attic
43:29bedrooms that I've seen but I did have to agree that the level of finishes wasn't there for them
43:35to be the overall winners that's where Sam and Elizabeth really shone the attention to detail the
43:40finish and the overall design was fantastic I feel upset for Edwin and Nell as well yeah I feel really
43:47upset for them like they've been really good friends to us during this process and we've become very close
43:55so I felt very upset for them dream isn't over not at all I think if anything this is this
44:00is lit a fire
44:01yeah showing us that this is where we want to be and you know what we want to do you
44:07know you just
44:08have to find a different way to get here yeah congratulations on your guest room renovations that
44:16secured your place in this week's final oh thank you thank you we're packing up and heading out for
44:24this next challenge no not expected because after this next challenge one pair will be guaranteed their
44:34place in the grand finale and the other pair will be going home oh well done for this challenge and
44:43I
44:43will see you all tomorrow thank you thank you next time the final two pairs hit the road oh my
44:59gosh
45:00oh wow it's gorgeous for a challenge with a twist canapes you've got to have at least a bottle each
45:09they're going to be absolutely sussled but with only one space in the grand finale the things you do
45:14for a chate whose dreams will come crashing down it is an actual nightmare though isn't it oh my word
45:22and who will be serving up success and the pair still competing to win their dream is
45:34so
45:42so
