00:01Welcome to Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
00:04The ultimate renovation showdown.
00:06Whose idea was this?
00:08Come on, mine.
00:09Take me over here.
00:11Over four thrilling weeks, creativity meets competition.
00:14That looks wicked, doesn't it?
00:15Perfect fit, oh my gosh.
00:18As determined duos battle it out to prove.
00:21I'm having an absolute nightmare.
00:23They've got the vision, skill and grit to win the ultimate prize.
00:26I haven't got a clue.
00:27I can cry, I can literally cry.
00:30The keys to this breathtaking French property.
00:34Set on the outskirts of a Normandy nature park,
00:37the property boasts six bedrooms, four bathrooms,
00:42two salons, five additional rooms to renovate,
00:46perfectly pruned gardens, stunning out buildings,
00:49its very own orchard and even a historic bread oven.
00:53It's a lot to play for and if we lose, I'll be fuming.
00:56Three heats and a grand finale where only the best will rise.
01:02All the pairs have to do is show they have the renovation know-how
01:06to impress me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY.
01:10I think this is really creative.
01:12What a transformation.
01:14In weekly challenges designed to push their creativity and skills to the limit.
01:19The clock is ticking.
01:20Win the week and they secure their spot in the grand finale.
01:24The dream is real, the stakes are high.
01:26This is Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
01:42Oh my God.
01:44It's literally what I always imagine.
01:46That's amazing. That's beautiful.
01:47We've been kind of waiting for something like this for a long time, haven't we?
01:50I think as dancers there's always that little bit of competition in us.
01:54We're in it to win it.
01:55Oh my God.
01:56Wow.
01:56No, this is gorgeous.
01:58It's absolutely...
01:59Stunning.
01:59Incredible.
02:01But then I've got this like burning feeling in the pit of my stomach that like...
02:04It's real now.
02:06You've got to be kidding me.
02:07Oh my God.
02:08It's beautiful, isn't it?
02:10Danielle is very competitive.
02:12Even sleep, she's got to check that she's had more sleep than me.
02:15I'm getting them off.
02:15We're feeling nervous, excited, in trepidation.
02:20Yeah.
02:21That we're finally here and this is really happening.
02:24And I love all the stonework.
02:25All the shutters there are suffering.
02:27Yeah.
02:28We're so excited to start the challenge.
02:30I really like that balcony.
02:32Could you imagine sitting breakfast in bed with the windows open?
02:35I think it's nervous excitement.
02:37It's like really excited to get going and nervous because you know how many things could go wrong as well.
02:47Hello and welcome to Win The Dream.
02:50Where you'll be competing to win this beautiful building behind me.
02:55But it's not going to be easy.
02:57You'll need to prove to me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY that you've got the skill and the
03:03ability to manage and maintain a historic building.
03:07So, are you ready for your first challenge?
03:10Yes.
03:11Sure?
03:11Yes.
03:12That's better.
03:14For this first challenge, you'll be renovating the upstairs spaces into attic snugs.
03:21Oh.
03:22I like that.
03:22OK.
03:24To make things interesting, you'll be doing this in two teams of four.
03:29Oh.
03:29OK.
03:30Oh.
03:31We've randomly selected your pairs already.
03:33So, Josh and Josh, you'll be working with Sherilyn and Daniel.
03:38Yay!
03:39Let's go.
03:40Joshua and Georgia, you'll be working with Martin and Danielle.
03:44Yay!
03:45Let's go.
03:46Each team will have a stripped back room to renovate.
03:49I'd like you to create a relaxing retreat for guests at this property, where they can rest after a hard
03:55day's broconte shopping.
03:56Your attic snug must contain a custom-built coffee table made from recycled furniture.
04:04Ooh.
04:04Yeah.
04:05You've got this.
04:06Let's go.
04:07We'll be looking for concept, creativity, practicality, and techniques, and the overall look and finish.
04:15You'll need to think about your own skill set and utilise that to show us your creativity coming through.
04:21Whilst you'll be working in teams, you'll be judged in your individual pairs.
04:25Ooh.
04:26That's good.
04:27Nice.
04:27Your budget for this challenge is €1,000 per team.
04:31And remember, one pair will be going home after this challenge.
04:37Are you ready to get started?
04:39Yes.
04:40Excited?
04:41Yes.
04:41Yes.
04:41Your time starts now.
04:45Let's go.
04:46Let's go.
04:46Let's go.
04:47Let's go.
04:47Let's go.
04:50Let's go.
04:51Nice as it's out of the way, it's time for the pairs to get a first look at the two
04:56adjoining attic spaces.
04:58Wow.
04:59Wow.
04:59All right.
05:00Oh, my gosh.
05:01It's actually bigger than I thought it was going to be up here.
05:03I don't know why.
05:04It's bigger.
05:05I love all the bars.
05:06Yeah.
05:06Look at these.
05:07Beautiful.
05:08Oh, my gosh.
05:09It's not what I was expecting.
05:11It looks quite medieval, doesn't it?
05:12Wow.
05:13That is a chimney as well.
05:16It's a big space, isn't it?
05:18Yeah.
05:20Beautiful.
05:20That's really cool.
05:20Oh, my gosh.
05:21You've got an area here.
05:22That is really cute.
05:23Yeah.
05:23I suppose we've just got to tech stock.
05:25Take as much in as we can.
05:27Just sit and make a plan, really.
05:31Bringing a wealth of renovation experience to this challenge are the pinks.
05:35Marketing with Sherilyn.
05:36In terms of, like, creativity and ideas and stuff, I feel like that's probably where my strengths
05:40lie.
05:41And her graphic designer boyfriend, Daniel.
05:44Because Daniel's going to be quite hands-on.
05:45The couple have renovated five houses and would love to have their own chateau to run
05:50a bed and breakfast business.
05:51Being able to live abroad is a huge goal of ours.
05:54Being able to host people in such an incredible space.
05:57Make a business out of the place that we live.
05:59And living in a chateau and living in France would give us the opportunity to do both of
06:03those things.
06:03100%.
06:04And they will be tackling the attic space with the blue team.
06:07Professional dancing duo, Josh.
06:09Give me a paintbrush and I'll get this room whipped up real good time.
06:13And Josh.
06:14We love doing anything to do with DIY and interior.
06:18So Josh has met at dance school and have been engaged for four years.
06:22I think if we won the chateau, the first thing that we would do in it is get married here.
06:28And then we've always imagined creating, like, a well-being retreat.
06:31So it would be absolutely life-changing.
06:33It would be amazing to win this chateau.
06:35I mean, this is literally what I've always dreamt of, by the way.
06:37And they already have a very clear idea for the room's colour scheme.
06:41Yeah.
06:41Bold, colourful, but, like, dark, deep colours would be our natural preference.
06:46And we love texture, we love, yeah, materials.
06:49Yeah, I'm thinking that we could do some kind of panelling here.
06:53And then we could probably use a bit of gold or a bit of a colour pop.
06:56But a nice moody colour is the base.
06:58Yeah.
06:59We don't want it to feel like a lounge in your home.
07:01No.
07:01So, like, we'd want it to feel a bit luxurious.
07:03Erm, like, we love the idea of, like, secret doors.
07:07Yeah.
07:07We could even create something there, maybe.
07:10Obviously, you've got, like, the front of wardrobes, things like that idea.
07:13Yeah.
07:13So, you go into Narnia.
07:14So, one thing that we haven't talked about is the fact that we have to find a coffee table.
07:19Or make a coffee table, should I say, made of different furniture that we can find.
07:23Yeah.
07:23Obviously, we can see that even the size of the space, it needs to be not a little coffee table.
07:27To be quite substantial.
07:28And I guess because that is part of the challenge, we wouldn't want it to be just a little thing
07:31in the corner.
07:32We want to make a bit of a thing of it.
07:33Yeah.
07:34We're going for that cosy retreat that is stylish, elegant.
07:38It's the place that you really want to come back to at the end of a day exploring rural France.
07:43All right, then.
07:43So, shall we get started?
07:44Let's go.
07:45Let's go.
07:45I love Josh & Josh.
07:46They bring so much vibrance and energy.
07:48I feel like their ideas and creativity is really going to complement our ideas and creativity.
07:52So, I'm excited to work with them.
07:54It's not just this incredible chateau the teams have the chance to win.
07:58The prize also comes with an acre of land and an array of outbuildings.
08:03One of which has been converted into a workshop, kitted out with everything our aspiring chateau owners need
08:09to realise their renovation designs.
08:12I wonder if there's an electric measuring tool.
08:14Checking out what's on offer on the Orange team are Georgia and Joshua.
08:18Loads of clams.
08:21Teen sweethearts, they are both bringing skills from their day jobs.
08:24I'm a consultant quantity surveyor, so I focus on heritage buildings.
08:28So, stuff like this is exactly what I'm seeing day in, day out.
08:32I'll take the notebook.
08:33I work in buying and product development, so working with budgets and sourcing is what I do all the time.
08:38Their dream is to own a venue to host events and retreats.
08:41Potentially having a home out in France.
08:44Yeah, I mean...
08:44A potential business.
08:46It would just be amazing and terrifying at the same time.
08:49And ready to take on this challenge with them are the Greens.
08:53Financial advisor, Danielle.
08:54Oh, nail gun.
08:56Or is it a stapler?
08:57And telecommunications manager, Martin.
08:59This has been the plan for years that we're going to end up in France.
09:02Yeah.
09:03In a house that we can have this kind of lifestyle.
09:07Yeah.
09:07And, yeah, 100%.
09:10And they should just fast forward our dreams.
09:12Yeah.
09:13It's exciting, isn't it?
09:14They're also a pair bringing renovation experience to the challenge.
09:17We've worked on your house.
09:20There's a 300-year-old cottage.
09:22And then we worked on my house.
09:24It's a couple of hundred years old.
09:25And they're starting their design off by looking at the functionality of their attic space.
09:30What do we think of the chimney stack?
09:32That's got to go, hasn't it?
09:34Yeah.
09:34We've got to hide it somehow.
09:35We could almost have, like, a bar there.
09:37Ooh.
09:38To have a little tipple in the snug.
09:39Yeah.
09:40Shoes off.
09:40I've just thought of something else.
09:42Go on.
09:42A screen for a cinema room.
09:44Yeah.
09:45A projector.
09:45If we get a big white roller blind that we can attach to a beam, it sits behind a beam
09:49so that you don't see it.
09:50Because the beams are sloping down, we can have it behind.
09:52Yeah.
09:53I think the projection screen idea is brilliant for our family movie night.
09:57So then we've got to think with the seating, then we need to plan it so that, functionally, you can
10:01watch the movies.
10:02Do we do some sort of built-in seating?
10:04Like, you do need...
10:05Potentially.
10:05Yeah.
10:06I think I'm seeing you have the cinema screen on this side, and then on this side you'd have the
10:10built-in seating.
10:12Like you said there, if we get some kind of built-in seating on this side, we could have a
10:15vignette here.
10:16What's that?
10:16Two-person seating area, really.
10:18We have that in our house.
10:19I didn't know they were called that.
10:20It's a Doncaster word.
10:22Holy kidding.
10:22No, but it's very French to have a vignette, so there's no reason the coffee table has to be centre
10:27of attention, is there?
10:28And then we've got our bar here on the left as you walk in.
10:32So we want it to be like a multifunctional zone.
10:34We're planning to build in single mattresses for seating, like big cosy seating.
10:38And then on the other side of the room, we're going to build a bar area there, and then you
10:42have the pull-down cinema screen underneath the beam.
10:45So it's sort of like a really bougie, cinemary...
10:48Like a meal for wee.
10:49Chill.
10:50Layers and layers.
10:51All the words.
10:52Look at you with all your friends.
10:53All the words.
10:55The teams have decided to split up.
10:57Right.
10:58Catch you in a bit.
10:58See you in a bit.
11:00With Josh and Cheryl in, and Danielle and Georgia heading off to bag a bargain at the local Bricant.
11:06Leaving the others to get to work on the spaces.
11:09Both teams have decided to cover up the breeze blocks in their rooms.
11:13Easy work.
11:15Quick off the mark on the orange and green team are Joshua and Martin, who are battening the walls for
11:20their wood panelling.
11:21We're going to have a couple of these on, and then these cross ones to nail the lats too.
11:28We're going to have to move this behind, and this is all going to be hidden behind the boards.
11:35So, first job, move this down.
11:40These are coming out very easy, which is great.
11:43Oh, this is going to work great.
11:45While Josh H and Daniel on the Blue and Pink team are also going to be panelling over the bricks
11:50with MDF.
11:51Vroom!
11:52It's looking so much better.
11:53As soon as you cover them bricks up with this wood, it starts to feel more like a room.
11:57Just centralising the beading across the panels as best as possible.
12:00So, roughly 20.
12:02Yeah.
12:02You've turned 20 and a half.
12:03Ooh!
12:04What?
12:05Ooh!
12:06There we go.
12:07Teamwork.
12:0820!
12:09As soon as the other two come back, I know that they're the same as me.
12:11They'll start to really feel like we're making good progress.
12:14And hopefully, it's all going to come together.
12:22Four pairs are battling it out to win a once-in-a-lifetime prize.
12:26This phenomenal property in France.
12:29For their first challenge, transforming the chateau's attic spaces into cosy and comfy snugs.
12:36Perfect.
12:37Lovely.
12:37The pairs are in two teams.
12:39They have six days, along with 1,000 euros, to complete their designs.
12:44Plenty of progress is being made.
12:46Pink and Blue team's panelling is going on the walls.
12:48With the right tools, it's really quick.
12:50I feel like, at home, I'd be having, like, a little staple gun and, like, nailing it in.
12:54With this, it's a quicker job.
12:57Boom!
12:58While over in the next room, the framework for Orange and Green's rustic bar is being measured and fitted into
13:03place.
13:05Perfect.
13:07Look at that.
13:08These will go...
13:10..there and there?
13:11Yeah.
13:13And Martin has spotted some material by the workshop that they could incorporate into the bar.
13:19Corrugated iron for bending round at the front of the bar.
13:24We went for the rustiest, oldest-looking, we'll brush that off, but we want the patina, everything else.
13:31I think it'll add to it, like, almost saloon bar sort of look.
13:36There's nothing sharp sticking off them.
13:38All the nail holes, where they've pulled them off, go inwards.
13:41So, I just think it'll be an absolutely incredible look.
13:45Absolutely perfect.
13:46While they prick on...
13:50..the others have arrived at the Bracant.
13:53Bonjour!
13:54Wow, oh, my gosh.
13:55I don't know why they've trusted us to come here, but...
13:57No, no, we're going to be great.
13:58We'll do.
13:58Yeah.
13:59We're good, we're good.
14:00First up is the other half of Blue and Pink's team...
14:04Bonjour.
14:04...Josh W and Sherilyn.
14:06We do have a limited budget, but I think we're going to be great at keeping an eye on it.
14:10We'd love to be able to just splash the cash and, like, absolutely buy all the, like, huge, amazing bits
14:15of furniture, but this is giving all the wood.
14:19On the pair's shopping list is a vintage rug and a wardrobe for their secret Narnia door design.
14:25I think we're going to...
14:26We need to rein it in.
14:26Absolutely, yeah.
14:27Try not to get carried away.
14:28But I think, as well, like, if we find something that's perfect, like, I'm going to want to spend more
14:33on it because I know that it's a main piece.
14:35Just look at the size of those tassels.
14:38Statement pieces.
14:39Like, we want people to walk into that room and be like, wow.
14:42Along with anything else that will help to complete the room.
14:45Glasses for the bow.
14:46Some sherry or something.
14:48Cheers, though.
14:48Cheers.
14:50Really liking these.
14:51Oh, oh my gosh.
14:53That is literally, isn't that...
14:55This, this, this.
14:56This is perfect.
14:57This is the perfect colours.
14:58Yeah.
14:58This is the style that we're looking for.
15:00It's pretty big.
15:01It's just...
15:02I just need to see how many rolls.
15:05It does look quite big.
15:07I think that that perfectly fits what we're trying to find.
15:09I think it's big enough where we can at least use it in a part of the...
15:12I agree.
15:12And the price is $125.
15:14$125.
15:14Okay.
15:15What if we can negotiate on that?
15:16Rugs are quite expensive.
15:18If we can get both of them for $120, we're in.
15:22Great.
15:22Now they need to find a wardrobe.
15:25Oh!
15:26And they might be in luck.
15:28$250.
15:29Oh!
15:29No, but like, imagine walking into that.
15:32That is gorgeous.
15:33I love that.
15:34Josh has had another bright idea to repurpose more of the wardrobe.
15:38The idea is to use this, the front of this, for the door.
15:45And the back of the wardrobe, we're thinking of turning it into the coffee table.
15:50I will be really honest, it's making my heart sink because it's a quarter of the budget.
15:54I know, that is expensive.
15:56On one thing.
15:56Yeah.
15:56But I suppose we'd be using it for two things.
15:58So, how did the team do with their budget on their first shopping trip?
16:04$70.
16:06$200.
16:07Amazing.
16:07So we can have it for $210, that's amazing.
16:08That is a €40 saving.
16:10The only thing I can do is 10%.
16:12Oui, oui, oui.
16:13Merci beaucoup.
16:14Merci beaucoup.
16:15Thank you very much.
16:16We've used €302.50.
16:18It's a lot for budget.
16:20Yeah?
16:21Is it?
16:22I'm excited.
16:24We're happy.
16:25We're feeling great about our purchases.
16:27Amazing.
16:27I'm really excited.
16:29I think there's still a lot of work to be done because we still need to figure out where
16:32the rug's going to go, position things, and we have to make the Narnia door and also
16:36the coffee table, but we've got the bones of actually being able to start it now, which
16:39is a massive weight off our shoulders.
16:40We're feeling great, positive.
16:42I'm feeling good.
16:42Doing a great job.
16:43Well done.
16:45Over on the orange and green team...
16:47I like that blue and the burgundy and the gold.
16:51Danielle and Georgia are also splashing the cash.
16:54We can make that really lovely.
16:55And you just use the hues, can't we?
16:56Yeah, definitely.
16:57Let's take a photo and then we can...
16:59Yeah, yeah.
16:59Of the colours and stuff.
17:01Yeah.
17:01They've also bagged a huge vintage rug for €70.
17:04Strong girls.
17:06We want to take it today.
17:07What's all?
17:09I see.
17:09And they've raided the local charity shop.
17:13So, un, deux, trois.
17:16Un, deux, trois.
17:17For accessories to fill the snug and they've spotted some seating for their vignette area.
17:22Imagine those two chairs in the corner.
17:26That's got the cream of the rug.
17:27They're not pleasant in terms of those colours.
17:30Do you know what then?
17:31We could potentially paint the fan brick.
17:34That's what I'm thinking.
17:35It would be good if we could get two matching singles.
17:37The same ones.
17:38I don't know how these are going to look.
17:40They'll fit the space better than the sofa, won't they?
17:42Yeah.
17:43The mattresses will be repurposed for their built-in seating area.
17:46My nails can't take it.
17:48I should have had them shorter.
17:51So, pop them on there.
17:53Do you want to pick out some feet?
17:54That's that.
17:54Yeah.
17:55Just a nice colour wood, aren't they?
17:57But how have this team fared on their €1,000 budget?
18:01We're good.
18:01That's €150.
18:03That's more than we thought it was going to be, didn't we?
18:05I don't think €150 is bad, though, considering what we've got.
18:07Well, there's €18 including the chairs.
18:08It's basically €20 that lies in the legs.
18:11What about if we did that?
18:12Yeah.
18:13Could we do €125?
18:17€130.
18:18Yeah.
18:18Amazing.
18:20Thank you very much.
18:22We very, very much appreciate it.
18:24Very, very cool.
18:25Budget, budget.
18:26Oh, that's a bargain.
18:28Just as the pair are about to leave, Danielle spots one last item on their shopping list.
18:33Oh, there.
18:34Is that a projector?
18:35It looks like that's what we use at work.
18:37It's got all the bits with it as well.
18:39Shall we see how much they'll let us have it for?
18:41Right.
18:41Let's do this.
18:42Excuse-moi, mademoiselle.
18:44This and this.
18:47Se combien, s'il vous plaît?
18:4910.
18:5010.
18:5310.
18:5410.
18:5410.
18:54And with this?
18:5510 for that.
18:56Oh, 10.
18:56Oh, amazing.
18:57That is fantastic.
18:59So, €10, projector and blind.
19:02Cinema sorted.
19:06Yes.
19:06Merci.
19:07Merci.
19:08Merci.
19:08Merci.
19:10Danielle and Georgia have spent €240, just under a quarter of their budget.
19:15We've had a very successful shopping trip.
19:18We've got plenty of plenty of stuff off the list for a lot less than we thought we were
19:22going to spend.
19:23We've got an absolute bargain on that projector, didn't we?
19:25Yeah.
19:25We're just a little bit worried about what the chairs might look like because they are quite
19:29chintzy granny.
19:30Yeah.
19:31But they're really ornate big and for the price we paid.
19:36€15 a chair and they're like Louis Rococo renaissance-y.
19:39They've got a jolly full, aren't they?
19:41Tell me if you need me to grab the other end.
19:44The boys are going to be so pleased with how much we've got.
19:46Yeah.
19:49With both teams' Bracompt swag on its way to the workshop, back at the chateau, the reclaimed
19:55corrugated metal on Orange and Green's bar is being installed.
19:59Perfect.
20:00That's it.
20:01And now Joshua and Martin are turning their attention to the bar worked up.
20:06And they've come up with another clever solution, using some old oak flooring.
20:12So we could use this several different ways.
20:14We could either do a full herringbone pattern or chevron or build off a herringbone and just
20:21span out which is going to be a lot less cuts and a lot easier to do.
20:24Yeah.
20:24No, I think that could be a good one.
20:28Nope.
20:30I'm sawing that one.
20:32Yep.
20:33Now this looks fun.
20:34What are we up to?
20:36Found the old timber but obviously it had all been nailed down so it's riddled with nails
20:41and woodworm.
20:43That's a shame, isn't it?
20:44Yeah.
20:44There's plenty of it so we can be choosy and maybe try and find ones with less nails.
20:49So this is the old flooring from the original building?
20:51It's the old flooring from the loft.
20:53Yeah.
20:54Wow.
20:54Look how thick it is.
20:56The loft floor.
20:56That's beautiful timber isn't it?
20:58You'd pay a fortune for that.
20:59Yeah.
20:59Look at the top and the finish.
21:01It's going to look really nice on the bar.
21:03And have you both worked with recycled flooring before?
21:05Yes.
21:06I have.
21:07I've worked with some parquet flooring.
21:09It's a challenge but it's worth it.
21:12So you've got a lot of this timber to get through have you?
21:14Yes.
21:15I think there's a couple of hundred that were spotted there.
21:17So we're not going to need that much obviously but hopefully we'll get the choice pieces.
21:21And there's some good colour tones as well.
21:23Some are a bit more blonde.
21:24Yeah.
21:24Than the others.
21:25So we're going to be able to incorporate some colours in there as well.
21:28So you could keep it simple and just use these lengths of timber as they are.
21:32But you're using a herringbone effect which requires a lot more cuts and intricacy right?
21:36Well we went for the herringbone over the chevron because there's going to be less cuts.
21:40With the herringbone we're only going to have to make those cuts at the top against the wall.
21:46And then once we've laid it all out we can then just jigsaw around the edge.
21:49Right.
21:50And then just finish it with a bit of beading or something at the front.
21:53It's a lovely piece of wood but it's a lot of work to de-nail it all and sand it
21:57isn't it?
21:57So I'm going to leave you to it because you've still got a lot to crack on with.
22:00Cheers Max.
22:01Cheers.
22:03Over on Blue and Pink's team.
22:04You can smell the rug.
22:06Yeah.
22:07Josh and Sherilyn are back from their Bricant shopping spree.
22:11Got it?
22:12Yeah.
22:13Three, two, one.
22:17There we go.
22:18So what do you think?
22:20Looks great.
22:20I love it.
22:22It's amazing isn't it?
22:22What I was thinking we could literally just chop all the way down the side here, all the
22:27way down and then we can then take this and use that for the front of the door and then
22:32we could even just chop like part of the door, the back of the wardrobe here and then use
22:38that for the coffee table.
22:40Sounds really good.
22:40Yeah.
22:41Yeah.
22:41Right.
22:42Let's get it chopped up.
22:43It's quite ambitious and yeah, a bit of pressure because I really want it to be perfect but
22:49I'm confident that it's going to work out.
22:50I'm really confident that the back of this is going to be perfect for the coffee table as
22:53well.
22:53Let's do it.
23:03Amazing.
23:06Flip it all the way over.
23:08Keep going.
23:09All the way.
23:11Let's go.
23:12Ready?
23:13Take it down.
23:14Gorgeous.
23:19Yeah, gorgeous.
23:20They're away?
23:21Yeah.
23:22Let's unclamp these.
23:25Ta-da!
23:25Gorgeous.
23:27Yeah.
23:29Let's hope it fits.
23:31Yeah.
23:31No, it will.
23:32It's going to be fab.
23:33That's it.
23:34Yep.
23:34Yep.
23:37Gorgeous.
23:41Moment of truth.
23:43Stand it up.
23:45Ooh.
23:45Oh my God.
23:47How about that?
23:48Perfect.
23:49Amazing.
23:50Perfect fit.
23:51Oh my God.
23:52Did it measure?
23:54Yeah, we got lucky.
23:55I mean, I feel amazing.
23:57I'm so glad it fits.
23:59It's a great job.
23:59I think it's going to look amazing.
24:00I mean, it looks amazing.
24:01All the little finishing touches not even on there.
24:03It's not being painted.
24:04Yeah, that'll look amazing.
24:05Once the mirrors on there as well, it'll really close the room off.
24:08a little bit and have that effect.
24:11Plus, it will bring lighting because the light's coming from there across.
24:13Exactly.
24:13And that's going to bounce straight into the mirror, into the rest of the room, and then
24:16with the burgundy panel in here, and the door's going to be burgundy with some gold gelding
24:21on there.
24:21It's going to be so good.
24:23I'm so excited.
24:24You're so lucky with that space in.
24:26It's crazy, isn't it?
24:28I can't believe that.
24:29The teams are coming to the end of the second day of their first challenge.
24:33I think it's going really well, and we're all working to our strengths, which I think
24:36is showing because we're making so much progress.
24:39We're all still on the same page with our design idea, and we've got a really clear vision.
24:44We're really excited about our plan.
24:46We think we're on to a winner, but we just don't know what they're planning.
24:50I think that's half the issue, isn't it, is making sure we state your plan and don't
24:54sort of get distracted by what someone else is doing.
25:03Two teams are going head-to-head in their first challenge, renovating the Chateau's
25:08attic spaces into cosy and comfy snugs to try and win this phenomenal property in France.
25:16Each team has a budget of €1,000, and they only have four days left to finish their designs.
25:22This morning, when I woke up, I realised we've still got quite a lot to do.
25:26We're doing a kind of a wainscotting type panelling, and we're going to paint that
25:30the same colour as a floor so that it makes the room kind of a little bit more cohesive.
25:34Ties it all in.
25:34I think today we are planning to finish the panelling, paint the panelling,
25:39and then you really want to get finished on the bar, don't you?
25:41I want to finish the bar.
25:42Definitely feeling the pressure today, especially cos the design idea with the door,
25:46with the wardrobe, and the coffee table came from me.
25:49So, yeah, I just really want to get it right.
25:51I think we're going to get to a point after we've painted that things can start to go in
25:55and the room will start to feel a little more snug.
25:59As part of this week's challenge, both teams' attic spaces must include
26:03a custom-made coffee table from a repurposed item.
26:0737, and the height.
26:11And that's exactly what the Blue and Pink team are turning their attention to now.
26:20Now, this looks technical.
26:22Hello.
26:22Hi.
26:23What are you up to?
26:24Making our coffee table.
26:26Oh, I mean, it doesn't look like a coffee table immediately.
26:29No.
26:29I mean, it looks stunning, though, right at the back.
26:31Oh, wow.
26:33Not what I was expecting from the back of a wardrobe.
26:35No.
26:36OK, so what's the plan now?
26:37OK, so what we're thinking is we've just lined up the table.
26:41We're going to cut all the way down here.
26:43Yeah.
26:44We're going to keep this beautiful back of the wardrobe
26:47and use that for the top of the coffee table.
26:50OK.
26:51Can you see the vision?
26:52I've started to see the vision.
26:53And then what we're going to do is we're going to then put some more wood
26:57along the sides here and on the other side.
26:59It's the perfect size for the room as well, with the room being quite big,
27:02so it will fit well over the rug we bought.
27:04Absolutely.
27:05And I think what we're going to do is, once we've sanded it down
27:06and we've given it a bit of paint, I think it's going to look stunning.
27:11So I don't want to jinx it, but it sounds like everything's going to plan so far.
27:15It is.
27:15At the moment, yeah.
27:16I feel like everything's going to plan, yeah.
27:19But yeah, we'll have to wait and see.
27:20I'm confident, though.
27:22You're confident?
27:22I'm very confident.
27:23Oh!
27:28But it's definitely not going to plan for the orange and green team.
27:32It looks awful.
27:33Inspired by colours of their vintage rug, Georgia and Danielle have started the day
27:38dyeing their 30 euro brocon chairs to try and match it in a fabric paint colour called Oxblood.
27:44As we say up north, a bit of trouble at mill.
27:46And they've only got one bottle of paint to work with.
27:49Mmm.
27:50I may have made the mistake of the centre.
27:53Can I get a big scoop?
27:54I wonder whether with the other chair, if we do do, like, some sort of pre-paint mix.
28:00How much is left in the bottle?
28:02What, that we've used?
28:03I think we've used loads.
28:05Oh, there's not much at all.
28:06We can't get another one of these, this is the last one in stock.
28:08So we're going to be in a real sticky situation.
28:11It's not going to cover two chairs.
28:13What about both top halves?
28:15I think that'll look worse.
28:16I think it would...
28:17We can't do anything now, we've got to make a match.
28:18I think it would look better to have two different coloured chairs than to have half chairs painted.
28:24But will that cover a whole chair?
28:26Yeah, I think it would cover a whole chair, but I don't think it'll cover two.
28:28Shall I put some water in this and see what happens?
28:29Yeah.
28:30Let's put a big splodge in, let's fill this up.
28:32Shall we go for it?
28:33Yeah.
28:34Cos this, I think, will go a lot further, won't it?
28:39That might be a lucky save.
28:42Oh, that's loads better, isn't it?
28:43Yeah, that looks better worked in as well.
28:45Yeah, it does.
28:46It is going a bit pink and bubbly.
28:49Well, if they're all, if it covers them all, it'll dry darker, hopefully.
28:54It is really, isn't it?
28:55They're going to dry pink.
28:56We can always do something.
28:57You're fantastic at, like, sewing and that, aren't you?
29:00Yeah, but I don't do...
29:01So we can do something for the arms.
29:02You need to be positive, Georgia.
29:04I just think it would look better to have two chairs, two completely different colours.
29:08I think it looks a bit mismatched if we've got half and half in each chair.
29:13It's not looking lovely, is it?
29:15Look at how bad it would look if it was half and half.
29:18We'll see.
29:19Maybe when the cushions are done, maybe it'll look alright, but I really don't think so.
29:24And they aren't the only ones going for a pop of colour.
29:27We're going Normandy Rouge.
29:29Professional dancer Josh is starting to paint the panelling in his team's room.
29:34OK, let's do it.
29:37I hope they like the colour because it's going on.
29:40No going back.
29:41I feel like one of my special skills is the speed of how I roll.
29:45I can roll real good.
29:47We're going to go.
29:49Oh, yeah.
29:50That looks great.
29:51So we chose this colour because we wanted to create something, like, really luxurious.
29:55Me and Josh kind of love these deep colours.
29:57So we kind of had to plant the seed with the other team that we were going to go this
30:01colour.
30:01I think it looks really good already.
30:03I mean, I've only just done one roll, but I think it's going to look good.
30:06Let's just hope the judges like it, I guess.
30:09Oh, my goodness.
30:12What do you think?
30:13Oh, I love it.
30:14Yeah?
30:15I absolutely love it.
30:16Look at that red.
30:17It's looking good, isn't it?
30:18Oh, my gosh, what a difference.
30:19OK, right, let's get started on some painting then.
30:21Amazing.
30:23Yeah, I'm very happy with that.
30:25Look at us go.
30:27Dream team.
30:28The clock is ticking.
30:33The teams are nearly halfway through their first challenge.
30:37After today, they'll have three days left to complete their spaces.
30:41But before they start the final push to complete their attic snugs...
30:45Teams, can I gather you by the workshop, please?
30:47Everyone to the workshop.
30:49Everyone to the workshop.
30:49Let's go.
30:49All right.
30:51Come on, then.
30:51Come on, Josh.
30:52I wonder what this is about.
30:55I have one small surprise for the pairs down at the workshop.
31:11Welcome to your first petite challenge.
31:14Each week, I'll set a couple of petite challenges to test your ingenuity, creativity and ability to work against the
31:21clock, which are all key traits required when running a property of this scale in France.
31:26Today, I'd like you to repurpose these glass jars into sets of candle holders fit for a chateau.
31:34You will have just 90 minutes.
31:39You'll be competing in your individual pairs against your teammates to see who wins this challenge.
31:48When your time is up, I'll select one set of candle holders from each team, which will take pride of
31:54place in your attic snug.
31:56I've provided you with everything you should need for this challenge, and I really want you to showcase your creativity.
32:03Happy?
32:04Yes.
32:05Excited?
32:06Yes.
32:06Yes.
32:06Your time starts now.
32:09Let's go.
32:13We've got a lot of jar, not a lot of candles.
32:14No, it's fine.
32:15I'm just trying to figure out what we can do.
32:17I'm not sure whether we stick to two really classy ones for the bar.
32:20Yeah.
32:21What were you thinking in terms of the base?
32:22I'm thinking we could actually build it up to resemble the ladder going up into our little snug.
32:28That might work.
32:28Yeah.
32:29But what I'm thinking is we'll do some decoupage.
32:32We'll do some decoupage.
32:33We'll do some decoupage.
32:34We've finished.
32:35Oh, well.
32:37Let me try and have a bit of a go at gluing this on.
32:40I don't want this to blow away.
32:42If I do the top of this, yeah?
32:45Yeah.
32:45And then the middle bit.
32:46Yeah.
32:47And then I'm going to put some sand in.
32:49Yeah.
32:49And then a candle.
32:50Yeah.
32:51While the pink and green teams focus on their glass jars, the Joshes are designing the base for their candle
32:58holders.
32:59Yeah.
33:00Then what we're going to do is put some holes in either side.
33:02Attach the string through them.
33:04Yeah.
33:04Create another circle but smaller.
33:07God.
33:07Create like a wooden chandelier.
33:09Okay, so first of all we need some wood.
33:11Yeah.
33:11Let's see how much wood we've got.
33:12Georgia and Joshua are also going down the chandelier route.
33:16See, I was thinking this thicker twine to do like a...
33:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:21Shall I wrap the twine round this?
33:23Yeah, yeah, do it.
33:23I just don't want it to look really homemade.
33:25It would be nice if it could look like something you could buy.
33:28Oh, good idea.
33:30Just found them in the parts bin.
33:31They were just getting thrown away.
33:33See if they fit round the candles.
33:34They do.
33:35That's perfect.
33:36There you go.
33:38See, a lot of cutting and tearing tissue paper.
33:43So let's hope this glue sticks to the glass because if it isn't then my whole idea is out of
33:48the window.
33:49I'll just do some folding.
33:51Yeah.
33:53Yes.
33:54I do a lot of craft actually at home and I did loads growing up because my grandma was an
33:58artist and my mum and dad make everything.
33:59I've made pretty much everything but I haven't made a suspended candle chandelier before in 90 minutes.
34:05I've never made anything like this before but I've seen it on the telly.
34:08So I'm glad that it's kind of sticking.
34:10I don't know if it's going to dry.
34:11I'm absolutely not an arts and crafts person.
34:14I just...
34:15I don't have the vision for it.
34:17Whose idea was this?
34:18Come on, mine.
34:21I'm having an issue with my tissue.
34:23Okay, change of plan.
34:24We are going to scrap that idea because I think it's not quite the right colour and because it's got
34:28glue on it, it's drying even lighter than I want it to be so it's not quite the dark golden
34:32red and it's just getting lighter and lighter.
34:34So it looks very pink.
34:35Oh, it's very stressful.
34:43Four determined pairs are competing in a renovation showdown for a chance to win this phenomenal property in France.
34:51Yes.
34:52As part of their first challenge, renovating the chateau's garage attic spaces into cosy snugs.
34:58This is going to take me ages.
34:59They've now been given just 90 minutes to battle it out in a petite challenge.
35:05To repurpose glass jars into sets of candle holders fit for a chateau.
35:10Feel, feel, feel, feel, load.
35:12And time is running out.
35:13You have 45 minutes left.
35:17My God, help me.
35:19Oh, come on, son. Perfect.
35:21We're chilling.
35:22Oh, my gosh.
35:24We kind of started again.
35:27Oh.
35:27So we're writing this one off completely, are we?
35:29That one's gone.
35:29You're not incorporating this at all anymore into your design?
35:32No, I won't be incorporating it.
35:34This was the one that I kind of completed and I just wasn't happy with the finish.
35:37So I'm going to leave that to one side and we're going to focus on this part of it and
35:41make it more rustic.
35:42It's not been a good start.
35:43It's not been a great start, no.
35:45Okay, but you're on track now.
35:46We're on track.
35:47You're focused.
35:47Yeah.
35:47And you've got to use your glue in the end anyway.
35:49Yes.
35:50And I've definitely, like, become the glue queen.
35:52Half the time is gone.
35:53So get a wriggle on.
35:53Yeah.
35:56Pressure is on big time.
35:58Things are going a bit better for the Joshes.
36:00Come on.
36:01So it could be a chandelier already, do you know what I mean?
36:03Well, as soon as I seen those candles, I thought, I love chandeliers.
36:06So for me, this idea just kind of came straight to me.
36:09And as soon as I seen string, I thought, right, wood, string.
36:12Let's create like a wooden chandelier.
36:14On the other side of the workshop.
36:16Look.
36:18So imagine.
36:20Danielle and Martin are not just repurposing glass jars.
36:23Like that, look.
36:25Lifted in there, yeah.
36:26Did you like?
36:26I'm up for that, yeah.
36:27But I also don't know if it's a bit earthy.
36:30Don't know.
36:30We'll see.
36:31Josh and Georgia are also thinking outside the box.
36:35I don't think we're allowed to use that, are we?
36:36No.
36:37But if we take inspiration from it.
36:39Yeah.
36:39It's like a round bit of log that you could use.
36:44He's looking at me like this is out of my comfort zone.
36:47I'm a bit worried I'm going to run out of twine.
36:49Oh, yeah, one of them could work.
36:51One, two, three, four, yeah.
36:52Yeah, do four then.
36:53For that, that's what I imagine.
36:55Sweet.
36:55We're going.
36:56Yeah.
36:56He's doing one done.
36:58Cute.
36:58Gorgeous.
36:59Let's go.
37:00The Joshes look like they're doing really well.
37:03Their design looks really similar to ours, but maybe a more, a less rustic version.
37:07Sherilyn and Daniel are finally making progress on their candle base.
37:11Yes.
37:12Okay.
37:13So, this is painted.
37:16Done.
37:17I think we might have time to make another item.
37:20But we don't know how much time we've used yet.
37:2320 minutes left, everybody.
37:2520 minutes.
37:2620 minutes.
37:26Oh, no!
37:27How the hell has 20 minutes passed?
37:29Yes, babe.
37:30Right, so a piece of the lace on each of the coasters.
37:33Right.
37:34If you rolled over that gold.
37:35Then gold it.
37:36And make it like a little pattern.
37:3810 minutes.
37:39What are you pair up to?
37:41We're nearly finished, actually, so we think we might have time to do a second piece.
37:44That's just showing off now, isn't it?
37:46The opposition have clearly not produced one, and you're about to start your second.
37:50Now, do you remember the design brief?
37:54Was it to repurpose something in particular?
37:56I don't remember.
37:57Like some glass jars or something?
38:01I don't remember that being part of it.
38:02You don't remember me saying that?
38:04No, but we'll get on that now.
38:06Cheers, mate.
38:06It's making me nervous.
38:09Glass jars.
38:10How did we miss that?
38:11I don't know.
38:12Looks a bit...
38:13Crafty at the moment.
38:14Crafty at the moment.
38:15Crafty's a polite phrase, doesn't it?
38:17They look really bad.
38:19In a desperate attempt to fulfil the brief...
38:22I might try and find a drill bit, like a hole saw.
38:26Do you want to go and look?
38:27Yeah.
38:27Joshua is thinking of repurposing anything he can find from the garden.
38:31So Josh has just found a grubby bit of sleeper, and he's just gone to see if he can find
38:37a hole saw the size of the jam jars to kind of set them into it for the...
38:42Or he could do it the size of the tea lights, actually.
38:45Oh, no, because we need to use the jam jars.
38:47We keep forgetting about the jars.
38:49I feel like a gardener.
38:51It's what a gardener.
38:53I want to kind of get it quite full, but we don't want to take the whole tree down.
38:57I actually need to get some leaves.
39:00Grab some ivy.
39:01As many red leaves as you can.
39:03The blues aren't the only ones incorporating the Chateau's garden into their design.
39:08OK?
39:12I think just try and work out how to make this look like I've just got a piece of wood
39:16and put three holes in it.
39:17Oh, you're going to dry.
39:19Oh, my arm is so soft.
39:21You've only just held it.
39:23Well, we've got probably eight minutes now, I reckon.
39:25Don't want to wax on everybody, but you've only got two minutes left.
39:29Er...
39:30Woo!
39:30It doesn't look good, I don't think.
39:31Two minutes left, Josh.
39:32I've lost my lid.
39:33Concentrate.
39:34Get your gold and start dabbing.
39:35I'll hold that.
39:36No, leave it.
39:37It slipped off.
39:38Woo!
39:38That was heavy.
39:39Hold on to those two, please.
39:41Oh, my gosh.
39:42OK.
39:43Quick, quick, quick.
39:45Time's up.
39:46Tools down.
39:47Time to show me your designs.
39:55Each pair had 90 minutes to repurpose old glass jars into complimentary candle holders.
40:02And now their first petite challenge is over.
40:06It's time to judge their designs.
40:08Sherilyn, Daniel.
40:09Hello.
40:10Would you like to explain your design?
40:11So we've taken our inspiration from our snug, where you go up the stairs and it opens out.
40:16We've built a little stepping stones all the way up.
40:19OK.
40:19And the colour scheme?
40:20Gold and black to suit our room.
40:22We've got the burgundy touches in there from the trees as well.
40:25OK.
40:26Fantastic.
40:31Right, you two.
40:32What have you created?
40:32OK, so this is our rustic chandelier-inspired design, which came out of Josh's head in about
40:3930 seconds.
40:40Did the idea in your head, Josh, come to fruition?
40:43Yeah, I think so.
40:44I mean, I'm happy with it.
40:45I mean, if we had a little bit more time, a few more things to work with, then yeah, I
40:49think we could have made it a little bit more elevated.
40:52But I'm happy with where it's at now.
40:53And I think the vibe that I was going for originally, I wanted it to go above the coffee
40:57table in our room.
40:59So you could actually envisage exactly where it's going in the snug.
41:03Great stuff.
41:04Well done.
41:08Right, Joshua and Georgia, tell me about your chandelier.
41:11We were inspired by the cartwheel originally, and then you reminded us that we were meant
41:15to recycle jam jars, so Josh quickly thought of a solution.
41:18I saw it round the back, and I thought it just looked amazing, and it would go really
41:21well in our room, so.
41:23Yeah.
41:23And we thought we'd do a three-piece suite, so we've got ceiling lights, a coffee table
41:27statement piece, and then just some side table lighting.
41:31And you created this chandelier from scratch, right?
41:34So Josh kind of sourced, and I put it together.
41:37It's a dream team, right?
41:39Yeah.
41:39Well done.
41:42Martin and Danielle, what have you created?
41:44We took the brief of obviously making sure that the main thing that we used
41:48was the glass jars.
41:50Where did you find the old tiles?
41:51So the old tiles were salvaged from the barn, so what we also thought is if we
41:55put them behind, because the room's quite dark, when the candles are lit, it'll give
41:59a really nice backlit blow.
42:01Are you pleased with how it went?
42:03Yeah, I am.
42:03Are you?
42:04Yes, I am.
42:05Joint decision, so yeah.
42:06Well done.
42:09Only one candle holder design can go into each of the team's snugs.
42:14So who will come out on top?
42:16Firstly, well done everybody for working so hard.
42:20There's some fantastic creativity on display, and you've really given it your all.
42:25Sherrilyn and Daniel, I love the way you incorporated the staircase from your attic
42:29into your design.
42:30I think the colours, they'll really complement what you're going to do up there.
42:33It does feel a little bit unfinished, but I guess that's to be expected, given you
42:37gave yourself half the time.
42:39The Joshes.
42:40You created a fantastic chandelier.
42:43You even found a red tree to match your attic design, which was a lovely touch.
42:49So the candle holder going into your attic snug is Josh and Josh.
42:55Amazing.
42:56Well done.
42:57Aww.
42:59Now Joshua and Georgia, that was a lot of work and a really good vision.
43:04You did forget about the glass jars, but you rescued it and then created your set of
43:07three that incorporated those jars beautifully.
43:12Martin and Danielle, your salvaging skills are second to none.
43:15The way you found the various tiles, you've utilised the rope, the different tones and
43:19materials, I think that looks fantastic.
43:22And I can imagine the glow of the candles flickering off the roof tiles beautifully.
43:27I can imagine both of your designs in your attic space and it's a really, really tough call.
43:33Because of the level of craftsmanship that went into your make, the candle holder going
43:39into your attic space is going to be Joshua and Georgia.
43:44Yay!
43:46Well done.
43:47Oh, well done.
43:49Right.
43:49No time for celebration.
43:51Back to your attic spaces.
43:52Go, go, go!
43:55I think winning the petite challenge has given us the confidence boost we needed and I would
43:59be surprised if we are going home, but I might be really wrong and it might be us.
44:05We forgot that tissue.
44:06Feeling really excited and energised after winning the challenge.
44:10We now feel more determined than ever to finish this room, make it really good so we
44:15can win two challenges this week.
44:16I'm not as confident as I was in the beginning of the week.
44:19That was a mini version of a very real thing that's about to happen.
44:22Yeah.
44:23It was a massive eye opening.
44:26I'm not feeling great about losing the challenge.
44:28The pressure's on.
44:29We've got stiff competition.
44:30Somebody's going home.
44:31It better not be us.
44:32Next time...
44:33Going up?
44:34Yeah, we're up.
44:35...pressure is mounting.
44:36Are you okay, Danielle?
44:37I'm going to get a lock sore.
44:39...as our two teams battle it out...
44:41What's the plan for you, sir?
44:43We can't tell you that.
44:44...for the attic snug crown.
44:45They look like they're from the Emerald City.
44:48Who will wow the guest judges?
44:50Amazing, isn't it?
44:50What a transformation.
44:52Couldn't be any more polar opposite.
44:54And who will miss the mark?
44:56Someone has to leave us today.
44:58And that pair is...
45:31...the American
