00:01Welcome to Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
00:04The ultimate renovation showdown.
00:06Whose idea was this?
00:08Come on, mine.
00:09Take me over here.
00:11Over four thrilling weeks, creativity meets competition.
00:14That looks wicked, doesn't it?
00:15Perfect fit, oh my gosh.
00:18As determined duos battle it out to prove.
00:21I'm having an absolute nightmare.
00:23They've got the vision, skill and grit to win the ultimate prize.
00:26I haven't got a clue.
00:27I can cry, I can literally cry.
00:30The keys to this breathtaking French property.
00:34Set on the outskirts of a Normandy nature park,
00:37the property boasts six bedrooms, four bathrooms,
00:42two salons, five additional rooms to renovate,
00:46perfectly pruned gardens, stunning outbuildings,
00:49its very own orchard and even a historic bread oven.
00:53It's a lot to play for and if we lose, I'll be fuming.
00:56Three heats and a grand finale where only the best will rise.
01:02All the pairs have to do is show they have the renovation know-how
01:06to impress me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY.
01:10I think this is really creative.
01:13What a transformation.
01:14In weekly challenges designed to push their creativity and skills to the limit.
01:19The clock is ticking.
01:20Win the week and they secure their spot in the grand finale.
01:24The dream is real, the stakes are high.
01:26This is Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
01:40It's day four of this week's second grand challenge where our pairs,
01:44each with a budget of only €500,
01:47are trying to convert blank spaces into inviting breakfast rooms.
01:52I think for us, our biggest concern at this point is getting everything done in the time,
01:57using that budget really wisely and making the room really practical.
02:01We thought that we would have started building the seating yesterday,
02:05but we had a few setbacks.
02:06We are behind schedule, but we feel that we can bring it back,
02:10just maybe not with the original plan.
02:13There's never enough time, there's never enough money.
02:15We're really happy with how it's looking,
02:17but yet again, we're almost over halfway through the challenge
02:20and thought we'd be further on.
02:23Yesterday, the three pairs competed in their second petite challenge,
02:27where Joshua and Georgia reign supreme.
02:30I think hope for the best, expect the worst,
02:33and it'll be amazing if we won again.
02:35But if we don't, then just hopefully we don't come last.
02:41Today, we're going to pretend it's the end of the challenge, the very end,
02:44because then that means when we do have that last little bit of time at the end,
02:47it can be for finishing touches and perfecting.
02:53I think we're in a good place.
02:54We just need to hit that brief.
02:56We need to absolutely hit it hard.
02:58Sliding through like butter.
02:59It doesn't matter how pretty that room is,
03:01if they can't put the kettle on, I think we might have missed the mark.
03:05Continuing to guest judge this week,
03:07are successful Châtelands Donna and Paul.
03:09For this challenge, they've been asked to create breakfast rooms.
03:12Now, you've successfully run a tea room for many years,
03:15so what will you be looking for?
03:16It was really important that you had that lovely, relaxing atmosphere,
03:22flexibility in your room, being able to swap round tables,
03:25make bigger tables, smaller tables.
03:27I would certainly be looking for a kettle to make tea, a coffee maker.
03:31You've got material choice, fabric choice.
03:34It's a room that will get a lot of use.
03:36You've got a lot of fluids and indeed children as well,
03:38so it'll be interesting to see some of the choices that they've made
03:41regarding how practical it is to keep up.
03:44You could have 10 to 15 guests.
03:46You don't want to be taking your crockery and cutlery
03:48to clean it in between servings.
03:50Potentially, it sounds like the breakfast room
03:52is the most important room in a chateau, bizarrely.
03:55It is an important room, I think, other than the accommodation
03:57and more often than not how efficient your Wi-Fi is,
04:01but the breakfast room is certainly key.
04:03It's up there by one of the top requirements in a chateau.
04:08With the clock ticking,
04:10it's a case of divide and conquer for the pairs.
04:13While jewellery buyer Georgia upholsters the chairs,
04:17quantity surveyor Joshua builds frames for their feature banquettes.
04:22I've just laid them out and one is shorter than the other.
04:27I don't know whether it really goes, but it has to.
04:31I think they looked better before.
04:36Getting closer.
04:37Lots of pressure on me today.
04:39I've got to pull out the goods,
04:40but I've done it once, I can do it again.
04:42There we go.
04:44OK.
04:47Rather than building furniture,
04:48Josh has decided to upcycle.
04:51So, at the moment, I'm just measuring up.
04:53I'm going to chop off the curved edges
04:54and we're going to make it into a nice square.
04:58Meanwhile, the other Josh heads off to the shops.
05:02We've got about 65 euros left,
05:03which isn't a lot of money,
05:04but we do have most of the big items now.
05:06On the list today is things like a kettle,
05:09some tablecloths, some cutlery.
05:11Josh got a really good deal with the other two tables.
05:13The seller gave us these for free.
05:15The actual top of the tables, we found them here in the chateau.
05:20These nails are so hard to get out.
05:22They're a nightmare.
05:24While communication engineer Martin gets to work,
05:28Danielle, who works in financial services,
05:30is on the hunt for bargains in the local brocons.
05:35As the only pair without a sideboard,
05:37Danielle has her sights set on a small, cheap one.
05:40The small one that we saw is 20 euro.
05:43But then she spots an alternative contender.
05:46That's got three doors with it and that's 40 euros.
05:49The top of it has got the checkerboard
05:51and the dining table's got the checkerboard.
05:53So it'll pull the two together.
05:55So I'm going to go for that one.
05:57Decision made.
05:58Vendée et moi.
06:01Merci.
06:03Back at the chateau and with time against them,
06:07Georgia's concerned about Joshua's work ethic.
06:11I just hope he's working fast and not dithering around chatting.
06:15I'm shocked he is.
06:18It feels pretty strong and rigid to me,
06:20so I'm ready to take it and show Georgia.
06:23The bonkette seating is definitely the feature of the room,
06:25so that's what we really want to get sorted.
06:27We need to make sure it's done well.
06:29We've only got today and tomorrow to properly work on the room,
06:32so we need to make sure we paint today.
06:34Here we go, Georgia.
06:35Oh, fab.
06:36Do you like the chairs?
06:37Are they not as neat as I wanted?
06:39Oh, yeah, no, they look really good.
06:41Do you think it's strong enough?
06:42Do you want to do the sit test?
06:43Let's see if it holds both of our weight.
06:45Oh, yeah, it's fine.
06:47Amazing.
06:48Cool.
06:49I'm going to keep going then.
06:52Ooh.
06:53Yeah, how much for it?
06:55Guess.
06:5540.
06:56Really?
06:57Really?
06:58Is it checkered?
06:59It's checkerboard.
07:00Oh, nice.
07:02I'm back.
07:04We have got a kettle.
07:05I bargained from ten to two euros.
07:08Ten to two euros?
07:09Ten to two euros.
07:10Because I said no one else is buying that.
07:11Oh, my gosh.
07:12OK.
07:12Then I've got a lovely cloth.
07:14Love that.
07:15I got both of these items for five euros.
07:18Amazing.
07:18We're on a very tight budget now.
07:20We only have 11 euros left.
07:22What I imagine that 11 euros is going to be spent on is things to dress the room.
07:26Guess how much we've got left?
07:27Go on.
07:28184 euros.
07:29Yeah.
07:30I nearly swore then.
07:31That's excellent.
07:31So we can get a brand new kettle, coffee machine, toaster.
07:34So look what I can get when you're not with me.
07:37Hey, how dare you?
07:40I think the vision that we had is starting to come to life.
07:43We're really happy with the colour.
07:44We're really happy with the print of the wallpaper.
07:46I think it feels like a lovely kind of space to be.
07:49Each drop is very similar.
07:52Obviously, you need to match them.
07:53We need to use every little bit of wallpaper that we've got.
07:56So I'm just doing some little off cuts and trying to chop them up and put them into place.
08:01Then it'll all fit and it'll all look nice and clean.
08:04I'm just looking at the brief list.
08:06Oh, I wanted to add another item to it.
08:08What was it?
08:09The knobs.
08:12How's it going?
08:13Looks productive in here.
08:15Yeah, we're steaming ahead today, but we have loads to do.
08:18I'm very pleased to see that you're sitting on that seating and it's taking you away.
08:23Do you know how it's turned out?
08:24I was pretty nervous to start with, but me and Georgie are both sat on it now.
08:29How many of the walls are you painting?
08:30Because currently you've painted nothing.
08:33We are planning to paint the whole room.
08:35The whole room?
08:36Yeah.
08:37Maybe the ceiling if we've got enough paint.
08:39And enough time, I would imagine.
08:41Because time is ticking and there's nothing being done on the walls.
08:45Yeah, we need to crack on.
08:46Yeah.
08:47So you've got all the fabric, you've got all the wood, you've got all the furniture.
08:51How much budget have we got left?
08:52We've got about 20 euros, but there's nothing else that we need.
08:56Let's hope nothing goes wrong then.
08:58I know.
08:58Thanks for having us.
09:01With years of DIY under their belt, Danielle and Martin turn their attention to their one and only table.
09:08Giz and then.
09:15Who switches a table over like that?
09:17Well, I didn't know what you were doing.
09:19We've narrowed down that we have three letable rooms, so we need six seats.
09:26So that means then we can have a bit more of a communal space in the breakfast room so that
09:29we don't have to do individual vignettes.
09:31Oh, it's nice, isn't it?
09:32I would not start sounding it though.
09:35Josh and Josh have a different strategy when it comes to accommodating their potential guests.
09:41How's it going?
09:42It's going good, thank you.
09:43Okay, so this is the built-in seating and you've got three standing chairs around there.
09:47How many are you catering for?
09:48So we imagine this space is going to have up to 12 seats in there.
09:52And does the upholstery bit worry you?
09:54No.
09:55I mean, we've done quite a lot of upholstery before, haven't we?
09:57And have you already bought the fabric?
09:59Well, it's probably one of our most expensive purchases.
10:01What we wanted to do was spend more money on the things in the space that, you know, people are
10:05going to sit on.
10:05So great.
10:06We've got a plan.
10:07You're following it.
10:08There's not a lot of time left, so I'll leave you to it.
10:11See you later.
10:14I need my glasses.
10:17Hey, Max.
10:18Hello.
10:18Hi, Max.
10:19What happened to the floor?
10:21You've got stuff everywhere.
10:23Yeah, we've got some secret weapons, I think, up our sleeves.
10:26And they're easy to replicate.
10:28So we're trying to just keep a few cards close to our chest, that's all.
10:31I think this far into the competition, everyone's starting to realise this is a big opportunity.
10:36We need to do our best work.
10:38I've just cried again on the way back from the supermarket, the thought of it.
10:41The opportunity that's not lost on us, that we're in this position,
10:45and we are going to fight for it.
10:47So let's see how you're going to do that.
10:48I'm doing two of these back rests, which will go at the back of the back bench, obviously,
10:53that you can then lean against, see if you're having a cup of tea.
10:56There's going to be some cushions for the bench, the pelments will be upholstered,
10:59and I'm going to do some new chair pads as well.
11:02I'll leave you to it, I think, because you've got a lot to do.
11:04Thank you very much.
11:11Thank you very much.
11:12Nice.
11:13Perfect.
11:14Yeah.
11:16Don't sit on it, might snap.
11:18It won't snap, Josh.
11:19Trust your work.
11:22I've just got one box left to do, and then I can do whatever you ask.
11:29I'm not going to just drop this because you want the walls painted today.
11:32No, it's not that I want the walls painted today,
11:34it's that I want to make sure that we've got a finished room.
11:36We can paint the walls really quickly, it's not an issue.
11:39Josh, would you mind giving us a hand at some point?
11:42In return, we want a day of labour.
11:44Ha!
11:45You can have Danielle.
11:46Just be as quick as posh, Josh.
11:48I tried to make it as light as possible.
11:50It's not ideal, Josh, having to help, but it's not very fair to not help.
11:56Go straight up, yeah?
11:57That's it.
11:58Josh.
11:58The foot on your right-hand foot is getting stuck on a stair.
12:03That's it, we're through.
12:04Josh.
12:05Yeah.
12:06You're an absolute star.
12:08There we go.
12:08Thank you, dude.
12:12Ooh, it's looking good.
12:14You make good progress.
12:15It looks fab, actually, doesn't it?
12:16Really good.
12:17Today's been a really good day, we've made massive progress in the challenge.
12:22Yeah, I'm really excited to be together tomorrow.
12:24When we're together, we thrive, so I think it's going to be great.
12:27I'm not a fan of this, but I do like this.
12:29Yeah.
12:30Why don't we get this cut out, fabric that I'm using for the bench,
12:35stapled really tightly with chicken wire in front of it.
12:39So we planned to have everything done today.
12:42We've got a small part of the challenge remaining.
12:45We've got to push forward with confidence with what we've planned and what we've designed.
12:49And for Joshua and Georgia, it's a case of better late than never.
12:54I'm a bit concerned that the pink all round is going to be a bit dark because I've just
12:58seen into the Josh's room and it looks really dark from outside.
13:02We just don't want a breakfast room to feel gloomy.
13:04We're going to paint this wall and then assess if we do do the whole room.
13:08But despite the fact they're finally painting, Georgia is still feeling the pressure.
13:14We're going to have to paint.
13:14We're going to have to clean the chairs.
13:16We're going to have to finish upholstering the chairs.
13:17We're going to have to screw the chair bases back onto the chairs.
13:21That's like a two-minute job, Georgia.
13:22We need to put the dresser on the wall.
13:23We need to make those doorknob things.
13:25We need to finish the frames.
13:26On a normal day, I think we'd be really happy with what we've achieved.
13:29But considering we've only got one day left to work on it, we're feeling a bit worried.
13:40With only the remains of today and tomorrow left for our pairs to renovate their rooms
13:45into suitable Chateau breakfast spaces, they're all feeling the pressure.
13:50The plan for today was an awful lot to do because we're coming to the end of the challenge now
13:54and we're just going to work harder than we've ever worked, aren't we?
13:57Yep.
13:58Right, good to go.
13:59Right, I'm going to get some oil in a kettle.
14:01Do you need anything else?
14:03I don't.
14:05Oh, we're meant to be crossing things off the list.
14:08Yeah, I know.
14:10Despite some last-minute progress, Joshua and Georgia still have a lot to do
14:14if they're to finish their room on time.
14:17The last hour of the day, we got a lot done.
14:19Got some mouldings on the wall and painted a bit of the room.
14:22So we just need to finish a pulse to ring the chairs, reattach the chair seats,
14:26a pulse to the bunker, clean the chairs.
14:29We want to finish the room today if we can, so that then tomorrow,
14:33because we only have a couple of hours, we're just dressing.
14:35Right, first things first.
14:37Are you wondering which first to do first?
14:43In the workshop, Josh continues work on my must-have request.
14:48So each room has one piece of upholstered furniture.
14:51Goggles on.
14:52So today, our biggest challenge is tackling the upholstery.
14:55We've got three bonkette seats to upholster,
14:58plus make some cushions and hang the curtains.
15:02I got this mattress for free.
15:04It's slightly thick.
15:05So what I'm going to do is I'm going to just cut the foam in half,
15:07and then I can actually save some foam and use it on both sides of the windows.
15:11Oh, look at that.
15:14Just trying to make it nice and straight, which is hard for me.
15:19Voila!
15:20We now have two seats.
15:24For the green pair, deciding the priorities is proving to be a challenge.
15:29I reckon we could make a ceiling rose.
15:31No.
15:32Don't give me anything else to do.
15:34I'm not saying you've got to make it.
15:35But you've already got 101 jobs to do.
15:37Yeah, I could do them in the next hour.
15:39You better not be doing it bloody next.
15:41I'm not making a ceiling rose at this point.
15:43Try not to get it on the floor.
15:45Now all the seating frames are complete, Georgia gets stuck into the upholstery.
15:50We're just going to start cutting out the fabric for the backboard and the seats.
15:55Oh, I love the colour.
15:57Right, hold that like that.
15:58I don't think anyone else will be taking on a project quite so large as ours.
16:02We're doing a four-metre bonquette seating that wraps round.
16:06So I think we stand a really good chance of winning.
16:12Danielle and Martin are hopeful their colour choice will make their competition green with envy.
16:18Oh, I like how thick this paint is.
16:20Anything green I get excited about.
16:22I think it's a very fresh colour.
16:24And the fact we've canapied it, so it's like a colour-blocking.
16:27Not yet we have.
16:27No, well, not yet.
16:29Because I keep doing something else.
16:32Can I swap? Will you do some of the ceiling?
16:34Because my chicken arms are as tired.
16:36Let me just finish this.
16:37Well, I'll finish that if you want to swap.
16:39I'm nearly there.
16:40Looking at what the other teams are wandering round in,
16:43I think they've gone for more of a terracotta-type dusky pink colour.
16:46Our room is a gamble, but one we hope will pay off.
16:48Oh, baby.
16:50I love it.
16:53The pressure's on.
16:54There's a lot to do.
16:55Josh is upstairs tackling the wallpaper.
16:57I think it will start to come together now.
16:59I hope.
17:00Fingers crossed.
17:01The hardest part of upholstering something of this size
17:04is keeping the tension through the fabric.
17:07Because what you don't want to have is, like, loose bumps or lumps in it.
17:10You want to kind of keep it, like, really wrapped tight.
17:12You've got to kind of fold the corners like a present.
17:15At least that's how I think of it anyway.
17:16Everything I know I've kind of learnt from my mum.
17:20Josh has picked up a range of skills from his mum,
17:23who's an interior designer.
17:25I think she'll be impressed that I was actually listening.
17:28OK, moment of truth.
17:29Let's see if what I did was any good.
17:32Ta-da!
17:34That looks good!
17:35I'm happy.
17:39Upstairs, Josh and Georgia are facing a mammoth task.
17:43Let's just get this one on and then we'll sort out the next one, yeah?
17:45Yeah.
17:46You fold or steeple. Let's go.
17:49Do one there.
17:51You go.
17:55That looks good.
17:57That's the biggest piece of upholstery I've ever seen.
18:00Yeah, it's proving to be quite challenging.
18:03No wonder. How big is it?
18:05Four metres.
18:06The phrase go big or go home is actually true here, isn't it?
18:10We're not ready to go home yet.
18:11Are you slightly concerned you're going to run out of time?
18:13I think we'll get this finished.
18:15It's the other two.
18:16I'm not sure about.
18:17Is there a plan B?
18:19Not yet.
18:20We need to think of one quickly this afternoon.
18:22And to be honest, if you pull it off, it's going to look fantastic.
18:25So keep up the good work.
18:26Thank you, Max.
18:29Now the painting is done, Danielle begins upholstering her backrests.
18:34This is a quarter of a two euro curtain.
18:37This is 50 cents of your finest second-hand shop bargain.
18:41And the orange quilt, which was a euro.
18:44So the whole thing's probably cost four euros for a custom-made backrest.
18:49Hopefully, it's all going to start coming together, but time's ticking, innit?
18:53He's outside making his easel, it's only going to take him an hour.
18:56We'll see about that.
18:58Across the hall, it's time for the Joshes to put together their bonquette.
19:02That colour's so nice.
19:03Any way round?
19:04Either way.
19:05Cool.
19:06And then, to finish it off, we have a backrest.
19:10What do we think?
19:11Love it.
19:12It looks really good, actually, with the wallpaper.
19:14Shall we test it out?
19:15Let's see.
19:15Let's go.
19:17Oh!
19:19First time ever doing a bonquette, and you smashed it.
19:23Taught him everything he knew.
19:26These have worked.
19:29Oh, you can kind of see the joy in there.
19:31It's the moment of truth for Joshua and Georgia's bonquette seat.
19:35We really should have thought about this when we're making a four-metre sofa.
19:40It's not a sofa, it's a bonquette.
19:43We haven't seen any of the rooms, so we don't know who our biggest competition is.
19:46We know that one team's doing a similar colour scheme, and another team is doing a similar concept with the
19:52bonquette seating.
19:53We're going to be the best of all the rooms, I think.
19:56All the ideas are going to come to a melting pot in the middle, which is our room.
20:02Shall we screw it in?
20:04Let's get the other stuff done.
20:05OK.
20:06Yeah, that's like a final job, if we've got time.
20:09OK.
20:11With their potential clientele in mind, Martin continues work on Danielle's easel.
20:16We've seen a lot of people out with easels painting.
20:20I think that's one of the reasons why Danielle was thinking for retreats for people that want to be away
20:27for painting and things like that.
20:31Hmm.
20:32I've never made one before.
20:34There's no drawing.
20:36It's completely out of my head.
20:46Hello, hello.
20:47You all right?
20:47Hello.
20:48This is coming together, isn't it?
20:50Yes.
20:51It's been a busy morning.
20:52We've been doing lots of upholstery.
20:54Josh has been doing the wallpapering.
20:56So what skill sets have improved?
20:57I've definitely stepped outside my comfort zone.
21:00I don't know.
21:01I just feel really empowered to try anything now.
21:04And you can really tell that from the smile on your face.
21:06And also your smile, Josh, at how proud you are that you've imparted your knowledge and shared that wisdom.
21:12Are you going to make me cry?
21:14No tears.
21:15No tears.
21:16So who do you think your biggest competitors are in the competition?
21:19I think Georgia and Joshua might be a bit of a dark horse in the competition.
21:24I think they've got lots of skills that maybe we don't know about just yet.
21:28Well, you've achieved a lot so far, but there's still a lot to do.
21:31So I'll leave you to it.
21:37Ta-da.
21:38Kind of worked.
21:39I'm happy with it.
21:40We have an easel.
21:41I think it's brilliant.
21:42I'm not surprised at all.
21:44I knew he was capable of actually building it.
21:46And it might have taken an hour and 23 minutes and 46 seconds.
21:49But what he's actually brought out in that time, it's fantastic.
21:54Yeah, impressive.
21:56Oh, it's not just a pretty face.
22:00Hello.
22:00Hi, Max.
22:02So I know that the other teams are busy upholstering as we speak.
22:06You've clearly got some upholstery still left to do.
22:08Yes.
22:09So that's one of the back pieces for the bench.
22:13There's another one of those to do.
22:14There's some more of these to finish, which are the frames for the photos from around the area.
22:19There's some seat cushions to make.
22:21And in terms of this panelling, that's staying white?
22:23Yes.
22:24We've opted to leave this one white also so that it frames the window.
22:27And then that will obviously have artwork on it.
22:29We've got a lot to do.
22:30I'm just holding you up now.
22:32So I'll leave you to it.
22:33Thanks, Max.
22:34Cheers.
22:35We've got to push forward with confidence with what we've planned and what we've designed
22:38because we haven't got any other option at this stage in the game.
22:41Meanwhile, Josh and Josh start moving in their furniture.
22:45I think if we went home tomorrow, it would be a really sad day.
22:48We've worked really hard now over the past two challenges.
22:50We haven't fully showed everything that we can do.
22:54Let's check the height.
22:56That's a good height.
22:57And as the day begins to draw to a close...
23:00OK, I've got the last tape.
23:02OK, watch the walls, please.
23:04They begin focusing on the finer details.
23:07I'm just making the cushion covers.
23:10I'm making seven.
23:12I have, like, half an hour to do that.
23:16With the bonket finally complete, the orange pair start work on their corner seating.
23:23I'm worried that we're not going to finish.
23:25I think there's a high chance we won't.
23:26We're going to be fine.
23:28Yeah, we'll be fine, but that doesn't mean we'll finish.
23:30We will.
23:31We always finish.
23:33I think this is very much our relationship.
23:34She'll worry and I'll pull out of the bag.
23:48It's the final day of this six-day challenge and our pairs are feeling the heat.
23:54Just being here at the Chateau has just kind of really solidified in our heads that we want this for
23:59our future.
24:00We've just got to stay positive and get the jobs done.
24:10I'm feeling like it's touch and go whether we actually finish.
24:13No, wait.
24:14We don't want it pulling off.
24:16It's a really horrible position to be in considering that winning the Chateau is what's at stake here.
24:21It's a big prize.
24:24I did say I wanted to put the voils in first though, didn't I?
24:28Oh, fuck.
24:29It doesn't matter.
24:29We're in a rush.
24:30We're both pressured.
24:31We're both stressed.
24:32We'll get it done.
24:32There's a solution to everything, isn't there?
24:34We're at a really good place with the room and we do have some time, not to spare, but where
24:40we can just kind of like perfect if we can.
24:43If we're not going to do it now, then when are we going to do it?
24:45And for the other Josh, that means upcycling materials from the Chateau Gardens.
24:51I'm just collecting loads of little twigs for my wall art.
24:56They all look perfectly symmetrical, perfectly identical.
25:01It's just this bit here in the middle. Here. Here. No, not up there. Here. Here in the middle only.
25:08As the clock counts down, Panic is setting in with the orange pear.
25:13Likewise with the green pear, finishing the upholstery is the priority.
25:18Get one in the top that side, one on top this side and then I can let go.
25:21Oh, no. Oh, that's gripped.
25:24Where's them scissors?
25:26Grab this and I'll grab the scissors.
25:29Is that central?
25:31No, sorry. Up on the left. Yeah, there.
25:33Yeah? Yeah, that's right.
25:34Happy? Yeah. Yeah, look straight.
25:36Look straight.
25:36I didn't like that.
25:37Come on!
25:39This side.
25:41Oh, that's an ugly one.
25:42Oh.
25:45I think those cooks are fucking brilliant.
25:49Yeah, they're solid enough.
25:54With only an hour to go, Donna and Paul join me to see how the pairs are getting along.
26:03I've had tears about the elimination today because I don't want it to be us.
26:06That sounds awful, not that I don't care who goes, as long as it's not us.
26:16We're so invested in it, it makes you want it more and more.
26:19Yeah.
26:19You start to make plans for it because your chances are increasing of how close you can get to owning
26:25it.
26:28What I'm doing is I'm just chopping up some pieces of wood to create some artwork for these frames.
26:36It's a sign of balance and we want people to come in this room and feel like a nice, chilled,
26:40balanced energy.
26:43How long have we got left? Do you know?
26:45Not a clue.
26:46Just keep going.
26:49Pressure's on, but as dancers, I think we kind of work well under pressure.
26:53That final stretch when we work towards performance, we're going to kind of bring that into play today.
26:59Oh.
27:02Well, never thought in my life I'd be stapling curtains up.
27:06Does that look nice?
27:07Yeah, that's awful.
27:10With the deadline looming, the teams shift into a higher gear.
27:13When I say left one, it means your left hand.
27:15Left one to the left.
27:16Write one down.
27:18Uh, yeah, let's just go for it then.
27:21How do you want me to write?
27:22I'm just practicing my handwriting.
27:24I just told you.
27:24I just told you how to write, Josh.
27:25Because I did it in capitals yesterday and it didn't look good, did it?
27:27It was a bit in your face. It needs to be softer.
27:29Okay. That's as good as it's going to get, Josh.
27:31Yeah, that's really cute. I love that.
27:34I've got ten minutes and Danielle's decided she wants another chopping board.
27:41Oh.
27:43Push down on this table there.
27:45Yeah.
27:46Goodbye to-do lists.
27:48We've actually done it all.
27:50I can't believe that.
27:51Isn't that insane?
28:02I need you out of way.
28:03I've got to get up there.
28:03Do you want to draw to the calm voice, please?
28:06Oh, Josh, there's paint on the table.
28:07Baby wipe.
28:10That's it, guys.
28:11Your team is up.
28:12Time's up.
28:14Two's down.
28:15Oh.
28:17We've got an orchid.
28:18We're coming to check out your breakfast room shortly.
28:22We did it.
28:23We did it.
28:24Well done.
28:25Smashed it.
28:26Smashed it.
28:26Well done.
28:29It is what it is.
28:30Now that the challenge is over, the pairs have some time to dress their rooms before the judging.
28:36We've always said go big, we'll go home in this competition and we've gone big and the proof will be
28:42in the pudding.
28:43We've got to be judged on what we've done and if it's not right.
28:46The decision will be the decision and hopefully it goes in our favour.
28:50I'm really proud.
28:51I'm proud of you too.
28:52I think we've realised now how much we really want this and how many ideas that we've got to turn
28:59this into a business for us in the future.
29:01It can't be the end of the road for us.
29:03At the beginning of the week, our pairs were asked to turn these three equal size bare rooms in the
29:09chateau into inviting and practical breakfast rooms.
29:13After six days and just 500 euros to transform the spaces, have they managed to hit the mark?
29:28Interesting.
29:31First up are Danielle and Martin, who went for a contemporary twist on the traditional chateau aesthetic, spending just over
29:38491 euros.
29:41They added panelling to the room and unique artwork featuring some of the local sites.
29:47To showcase their upholstery skills, they made backrests and covered door panels, all at a cost of just four euros.
29:55And Martin created a focal point to the space by building an easel.
30:00So what do you think? First impressions?
30:02It's a nice, bright room, somewhere I would like to have breakfast.
30:06Part of the challenge was to upholster a piece of furniture.
30:10They've introduced the fabric into the unit there, they've upholstered these backrests.
30:14There's even fabric on the paintings, on the artwork.
30:17Yeah, I think they've done it well because they've done it in areas that aren't going to get that much
30:21use.
30:22Most of the wear and tear is going to be on the bench seating, so I think, you know, that's
30:25thick debris for me.
30:26And what do you think to the artwork on the walls?
30:28Danielle went out into the local village and photographed some lovely little areas.
30:33I think it looks great. Keeping the breakfast theme with the foxes, picture hoops.
30:37Really, really nice on the walls. It's really added a bit of colour.
30:40There's a lot of space unutilised.
30:43You could have easily got another two tables in here and seat another four people at least.
30:49Yeah, you haven't got much flexibility at all. The table potentially opens up.
30:54I think Daniel and Martin were so fixated on the beautiful view out of the window
30:58that they wanted to encourage people to sit here and enjoy that vista.
31:03You could take the easel away and put a table for two to four people there.
31:08What about the table we do have, though?
31:10This is beautiful. I really like the set-up. I like the benches.
31:15Shall we go and have a look at this little snug over here in the corner?
31:18It's nice for a coffee, I think, but beyond that, you wouldn't really accommodate anything else there.
31:23Well, this is actually their petite challenge, so this was to store crockery.
31:27It's storing two cups in a teapot at the moment, but that's probably its totality.
31:31I think it's reached its max, but, yeah.
31:33Shall we go on to the next room? Yeah.
31:35Yeah. Looking forward to the next one.
31:42Joshua and Georgia went for a glamorous, warm and welcoming theme, spending just over 476 euros.
31:50Joshua built a four-meter-long bonquette, creating visual impact,
31:55and they recycled old foam mattresses for the seating cushions at a cost of just 30 euros.
32:01Georgia created comfort and points of interest by upholstering the patio chairs, lampshade, bonquette and scatter cushions.
32:39What do we think?
32:40That is such an ambitious upholstery project, isn't it?
32:44It is indeed, I think. I've done a great job on it. My only question would be how that'll look
32:47in six months' time with jam and preserve and orange juice.
32:51And red wine.
32:53You shouldn't be having red wine for breakfast, come on.
32:56We are in France.
32:57We are in France. Come on.
32:59Georgia didn't stop there. She's upholstered every one of these dining chairs.
33:03Oh, wow. Wow.
33:03And actually, it's a fairly nice job, isn't it?
33:05It is.
33:06It's done a really nice job. And even the light shed.
33:10Oh, yeah, I hadn't even seen that.
33:13It's lovely, isn't it?
33:16Now, you'll notice the crockery display.
33:18This was actually the winner from the petite challenge.
33:21It's quite simple in its design.
33:22Certainly more crockery on that than we've seen so far.
33:25I mean, of course, you could have upholstered it.
33:26It'll be a padded room if we're not careful.
33:29Now, what about this unit here?
33:31Think it's big enough?
33:32I think it's fine if you're just having your tea, your coffee, your juices,
33:36but there's no kettle, no toaster.
33:43It is comfortable.
33:45I could actually, now I'm sat down,
33:47imagine us having breakfast around this table.
33:49Yeah, actually, yeah.
33:50It's very comfortable.
33:52Plenty of room, but it sways a little bit.
33:55I'd kind of worry if there's kind of four adults sat on here.
33:59Well, I don't want to concern you,
34:01but having watched the construction of it,
34:03it's made out of 22mm baton,
34:04so it was always going to be slightly on the flimsy side,
34:08but they run out of money,
34:10and they used what they could.
34:11Well, clearly, our breakfast isn't coming, is it?
34:13I think not.
34:14Shall we go on to the next room?
34:22Now, that's a big impact, right?
34:24Josh and Josh went for a bold, luxurious theme,
34:27spending just under 500 euros.
34:31They built window seats,
34:33upcycled four tables,
34:34which they bought for just 10 euros,
34:36and repurposed floorboards
34:38they found on site for a tabletop.
34:41Their most expensive purchase
34:43was the fabric at 78 euros,
34:45and they added texture and detail to the room
34:48through homemade artwork,
34:52voils, wallpaper,
34:54and soft furnishings.
34:57So, so different.
34:59It's very similar in colour to the other room.
35:02Oh, yeah.
35:04The other...
35:05The pink is very...
35:06More of a vivid pink,
35:08where this is more sultry and calming.
35:12I like how they've got the tables and chairs arranged.
35:16They've all got their little areas.
35:20I think the window seating is a really good use of space,
35:24and what a view.
35:27Josh and Josh certainly have an eye for detail,
35:29and I think that's evident with the artwork as well.
35:31What do you think of that?
35:32Yeah, I think the artwork's simple,
35:33but I think it's quite effective in here,
35:35and just draws your eye again
35:36at the trees that are outside in the property as well.
35:39Bringing the outdoors in.
35:40I can certainly see what their idea was with the wallpaper,
35:44which is a lovely touch,
35:45and matching it in with the bottom of the bench.
35:48I would have much rather seen it as wood to match the table.
35:52You know, particularly if you're sitting there
35:54with your heels and your shoes,
35:56then that very quickly would be dirty as well.
35:59So what do you think to this unit?
36:00Is it big enough, practical enough?
36:02I think it looks great.
36:03It's clearly a really nice unit,
36:04but I just think it lacks storage.
36:11I think from here now you can see all the different elements.
36:13I've chosen a really lovely colour and texture palette.
36:16The textures are very good.
36:18I think that, you know, from the corduroy to the bare wood,
36:22you've got the painted walls,
36:24and then with the lovely vile curtains,
36:26yeah, certainly 10 out of 10 for textures.
36:28And what do you think to their upholstery skills?
36:31I think they've done a great job.
36:32I think it's nice and tight.
36:34Foam's great.
36:34I think the seat padding's great as well.
36:36The line's nice and straight at that as well, which is good.
36:40Yeah.
36:41Well-stuffed cushions.
36:42Yeah.
36:43So this looks like a high-end oak-topped table,
36:46but these are actually just reclaimed oak floorboards
36:49that they found on the grounds in a barn.
36:51You'll forever be hoovering these
36:52to get yesterday's breakfast out of the table tops.
36:55It's just little niggles,
36:56just little changes that could make it work
36:59in running a chateau and having a breakfast room.
37:03Otherwise, they've done a great job.
37:05Can we talk about the elephant in the room?
37:07It's fair to say Josh and Josh didn't win the petite challenge.
37:11It isn't petite for one,
37:12and it's jars, I think, with everything else,
37:14have done reasonably well.
37:16This is tricky.
37:17They've all given us a lot to think about.
37:19They have.
37:24If it doesn't win and wind up going home,
37:26I don't think I would have done anything differently in that room.
37:29Whatever the result is, I'm proud of what we've achieved.
37:34We really don't want to go home,
37:36and we're really gutted if we do.
37:39We've thrown the kitchen sink at it,
37:41and if we go home, it's our time.
37:43But I really want to win it.
37:46Although the breakfast room's been our challenge,
37:48it's more than that.
37:49This is about our business.
37:50We have big dreams for the future,
37:52and it all kind of rides on the judges today.
38:01Welcome back to North West France,
38:04where guest judges and former tea room owners Donna and Paul
38:07have just cast their eyes over the pair's breakfast room renovations.
38:11They have certainly raised the bar with this challenge, haven't they?
38:15Yeah, undoubtedly.
38:16I think all of them produced three, yeah.
38:18Very impressive rooms.
38:19Yeah.
38:20Yeah.
38:20I really liked Daniel and Martin's room.
38:23For me, the colour choice, that green was lovely,
38:26and the way they wrapped it up one wall,
38:27across the ceiling and down again,
38:29that framed the window beautifully.
38:31I loved their room.
38:32It really felt like a welcoming breakfast room.
38:36The colours were perfect.
38:37Even, you know, the forks that were hangers for the pitchers.
38:41And what about in terms of practicality?
38:44I think, for me,
38:45I think there was some real positives about the room,
38:47certainly practical use of that buffet table that was there.
38:50It had all the storage and more that you would ever need.
38:52I think the practical aspect that was slightly amiss
38:54was the fact that not enough tables and chairs in that room.
38:57You know, it was a lovely idea
38:59putting the welcoming board and that,
39:02but it took up valuable space.
39:04So that was a real negative for me.
39:07On the flip side, somebody with ample seating,
39:10Joshua and Georgia, created that massive bench.
39:13I think the overall quality of the finish of the upholstery
39:15in this room was great.
39:16I think they clearly learned from some of the comments
39:19that we'd made previously.
39:20Yeah, it was a great idea and certainly looked very wow
39:23as you go into the room.
39:25I think the downside of that was when we'd sat on the bench
39:29and it felt a little wobbly.
39:31Yeah, I think they spent a lot of time on the upholstery,
39:33so much so that was to the detriment of the other furniture.
39:36Now, Josh and Josh, there was loads of colour.
39:38They even wallpapered one of the walls, which was fantastic.
39:41Yeah, it was good to see so many different textures
39:43in Josh and Josh's room.
39:45I think the practicality of using wallpaper,
39:48effectively where your feet and your heels go,
39:50perhaps questionable, but I think they did deliver,
39:53you know, good interior finish in that room.
39:55And when it comes to practicality, Paul,
39:57you were so frustrated with the oak table,
39:59which looked beautiful, but it was just a crumb catcher, wasn't it?
40:02You'd be forever hoovering out that table.
40:04And I think, in reality, you'd end up covering that tabletop,
40:07whether it be with a tablecloth or a sheet of glass.
40:10So I think we know who's staying and whose dream is ending here.
40:13Yes, it's been a very tough decision, but I think we're agreed.
40:19Let's go gather the pairs.
40:25We have made our decision which two pairs will make it through
40:29to the next round, and which pair will be leaving the competition.
40:39Well done, everybody, on this second challenge.
40:43Your rooms were done to such a high standard.
40:48And it was incredibly difficult for us to choose a winner.
40:52And who's going to go home?
40:57You should be all proud of the work that you've achieved
40:59and know that it was such a close decision, it was a split call.
41:04The winning pair did lack a little bit in practicality,
41:08but we were really impressed with the overall aesthetic
41:11and the skills that you used in the room.
41:15And the winners...
41:22Josh and Josh.
41:29It feels amazing, it feels like, you know, a bit of validation,
41:32a bit of recognition for the hard work that we put in.
41:34The fact that the judges chose our room over anyone else's,
41:37it's, you know, it's a massive confidence boost in the competition
41:39and, yeah, it feels great.
41:41Congratulations, guys.
41:42Congratulations, guys.
41:44Will the remaining pairs please step forward?
41:52Daniela Martin, we loved your room.
41:55I certainly could see myself serving breakfast there.
41:59I just would have liked an extra table or two.
42:02Yes.
42:03Joshua and Georgia, we liked that you'd taken on board comments
42:06about fit and finish of the upholstery.
42:09We did feel that the choice of upholstery was slightly impractical
42:12and certain elements of the base were a little flimsy.
42:15With all that in mind, the pair going home today are...
42:26Joshua and Georgia.
42:33Obviously really disappointed,
42:35but I kind of felt towards the end of the week
42:37that it might go this way.
42:39I think it's definitely made us think about Shutterlife more, hasn't it?
42:42And, you know, the possibilities of what we could do out here.
42:44I'm going to miss you.
42:45It's been a lot of fun there.
42:47I've really enjoyed it.
42:47Yeah, it's been really fun.
42:48It's been, yeah, the best time.
42:52Joshua and Georgia work at home.
42:54They say they don't really set deadlines,
42:55they work to a much slower pace,
42:57and I think maybe that showed.
43:00If you look at the amount of wonderful upholstery they've done,
43:04but that was probably 80% of the technique in the room.
43:07I think if they'd have cooked back on that
43:10and concentrated on other aspects,
43:12they would have made a more cohesive room.
43:17Congratulations on your breakfast room renovations,
43:20which have secured your place in this week's final.
43:25Getting through this round has made me want it even more.
43:28It's like another step closer.
43:30It's like, this is doable.
43:33We're capable of this.
43:35We can do this.
43:35This could be ours.
43:37We're packing up and heading out for the next challenge.
43:40So for one pair, this will be your last time at the Chateau.
43:45Yeah, we're so excited to go somewhere else for the next challenge.
43:48I think it'll be sad to leave this place,
43:51but, you know, hopefully we'll be back.
43:54I think we both loved the other pair's designs, didn't we?
43:58The creativity, the ingenuity, the skills they displayed.
44:01I can't wait to see what they do in the final.
44:03Good luck.
44:05Yeah, I think you can see the emotion
44:07and how hungry both these pairs are.
44:11I think they're certainly going to put up a fight on the next challenge.
44:17The thought of leaving for next challenge is upsetting.
44:20Because I live here now in my head.
44:23I'm going to have to take a photo of it and carry it round in my wallet.
44:27I'll see you all at the next challenge.
44:30Thank you very much.
44:35Next time, let's get scrubbing.
44:37Oh, wow.
44:38Our remaining pairs.
44:40OK, let's go.
44:41Let's just work as a team, please.
44:42Roll up their sleeves.
44:44Good morning, everybody.
44:45Allez, les volunteers.
44:47And fight to prove they have what it takes to run a Chateau business.
44:51High five.
44:51Do the motivational speeches.
44:53But with only one space in the grand finale.
44:57Oh, Martin.
44:59There is also a secret.
45:01Who will strike gold?
45:03And who will be left in the dust?
45:05And the pair still competing to win their dream is...
45:09Is...
45:37Is...
45:38Only technically the gloves to be left.
45:41It's...
45:42The perfect cambi Kamas close,
45:43About 6...
