00:01Welcome to Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
00:04The ultimate renovation showdown.
00:06Whose idea was this?
00:08I want mine.
00:09Take me over here.
00:11Over four thrilling weeks, creativity meets competition.
00:14That looks wicked, doesn't it?
00:15Perfect fit, oh my gosh.
00:18As determined duos battle it out to prove.
00:21I'm having an absolute nightmare.
00:23They've got the vision, skill and grit to win the ultimate prize.
00:26I haven't got a clue.
00:27I can cry, I can literally cry.
00:30The keys to this breathtaking French property.
00:34Set on the outskirts of a Normandy nature park,
00:37the property boasts six bedrooms, four bathrooms,
00:42two salons, five additional rooms to renovate,
00:46perfectly pruned gardens, stunning outbuildings,
00:49its very own orchard and even a historic bread oven.
00:53It's a lot to play for and if we lose, I'll be fuming.
00:56Three heats and a grand finale where only the best will rise.
01:02All the pairs have to do is show they have the renovation know-how
01:06to impress me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY.
01:10I think this is really creative.
01:13What a transformation.
01:14In weekly challenges designed to push their creativity and skills to the limit.
01:19The clock is ticking.
01:20Win the week and they secure their spot in the grand finale.
01:24The dream is real.
01:25The stakes are high.
01:27This is Chateau DIY Win the Dream.
01:41Previously on Win the Dream, the pairs joined forces.
01:45Is it grey?
01:46I thought it was meant to be cream.
01:48I thought it was meant to be cream too.
01:49To create entertainment spaces with a bespoke bar.
01:53We're in.
01:54We're in.
01:55Each team pulled out all the stops.
01:59My hand is shaking because I'm really nervous.
02:01I'd just be really upset to go home now.
02:03To produce two incredible renovations.
02:07But sadly, the pair leaving us today is Fernando and Saurab.
02:13Their dream was over.
02:21Feeling pretty rejuvenated and ready to go now.
02:23Yes.
02:24Super emotional at the end of the last week.
02:26We were really upset to be in the bottom two.
02:28But, you know, we have to just put that behind us now.
02:30I feel really good today.
02:32I feel really motivated.
02:34I'm so excited that we've got another week, another challenge.
02:38I am a little bit more excited than I was this time last week.
02:42Absolutely.
02:42I'm super excited.
02:43You know, we learnt a lot from last week.
02:44Yeah.
02:45So, yeah, keen to put some of those learnings into practice.
02:47Yeah.
02:49Hello.
02:50How are you all?
02:51Good, thanks.
02:53Ready for your second challenge?
02:54Yes.
02:54Absolutely.
02:55For your next challenge, you have six days to renovate the upstairs rooms
02:59into guest bedrooms.
03:02Yes.
03:03Yes.
03:03Nice.
03:04Yeah.
03:05Genuine smile with these, aren't they?
03:06Yeah.
03:07You are happy?
03:08Yeah.
03:08You are happy.
03:09You will have 500 euros, so every euro will count.
03:13Oh, God.
03:14Your guest bedrooms must include a hidden storage compartment.
03:19Oh.
03:20Oh.
03:21You'll be judged in your individual pairs.
03:23And remember, one pair will be going home after the challenge.
03:28Your tools are waiting in your rooms.
03:30Your time starts now.
03:33Let's go.
03:37The pairs have each been randomly allocated a guest bedroom on the first floor.
03:43This is exciting.
03:45It is nice, isn't it?
03:47Beautiful.
03:50Ooh.
03:53Oh, cool.
03:55Let's look at the windows.
03:56Wow.
03:57Oh, it's so pretty.
04:00Oh, wow.
04:01It's so nice, isn't it?
04:02It's lovely.
04:03Yeah.
04:03It's so bright.
04:05Yes.
04:05And look, we've got a gorgeous view.
04:07Yeah.
04:07It's so nice.
04:09Let's have a look at that.
04:09Let's have a really good look out.
04:10Oh, wow.
04:11Look out.
04:12Oh, right onto the garden.
04:17Ooh.
04:17Wow.
04:18This is nice, isn't it?
04:19Oh, it's nice and bright and airy.
04:20Yeah.
04:21Love the dual aspect.
04:22Yeah.
04:23OK, I'm happy.
04:24This is a nice space.
04:25It is.
04:26It's lovely.
04:26It already feels quite warm.
04:27Where would the bed go?
04:28It's got to be there, because there's already light switches.
04:30Is that a double?
04:32If you are waking up, do you want that view?
04:35When you wake up.
04:37I'm thinking bed.
04:39Yeah?
04:39Yeah.
04:40On this wall?
04:41Yeah.
04:41It does look like the plug sockets for it are on that wall.
04:44Oh, so bed over there?
04:46Essentially, panel this wall.
04:49Just that whole wall.
04:50And to make it, this being an absolute scene.
04:54Yeah.
04:55I don't think we have time to panel this room or anything.
04:58I think we should panel every single wall.
05:02OK.
05:04Stop you there, lady.
05:06One large one here.
05:07And then I think we do one large one in the middle here.
05:10Yes.
05:11OK.
05:11And then we could do two smaller ones at the sides.
05:14Yeah.
05:14To frame the bed.
05:15And then I think we just do three standard size ones over there.
05:19Do you see what I mean?
05:20Yeah.
05:20Are you happy with that?
05:21I'm delighted with that, honey.
05:22I can't wait to spend a whole week panelling.
05:28The pairs turn their thoughts to the key features that will make their room stand out.
05:32I would like a headboard on that wall.
05:35And do you know what I'd really like?
05:36Because it's quite a nice big space.
05:37I'd like to try and do a canopy.
05:38Yeah.
05:38What's it called?
05:39Ciel de Lis.
05:40Are we going classic French Ciel de Lis with all the finials and whatnot?
05:44Or...
05:44No, I think dowel and, like, just a really nice material hang down the back.
05:48Just a fabric one?
05:49Yeah.
05:50I've seen in the local villages, when there's, like, a curve, like a turret, they often do
05:56that, like, it's like a chessboard design.
06:00And we could have that be sort of a feature.
06:03Window seating.
06:04You could maybe do, like, a compartment in the window seat.
06:08Possibly, yeah.
06:09Yeah.
06:09Secret compartment.
06:10Yeah, yeah.
06:11Maybe, like, a false bottom in it.
06:13Yeah.
06:14That could be the secret compartments.
06:15I was thinking that.
06:16The base seating.
06:17I was thinking that.
06:18Yeah.
06:18We could actually build in a really nice little bench seat or something here.
06:22And then that's a really nice place to look out, but also can be storage.
06:26Yeah.
06:26Do you think that window's deep enough to put a window seat?
06:29I think you could put a little one in here.
06:32Because everyone loves a window seat.
06:34Everyone does love a window seat.
06:36Colours?
06:37Well, it's dual aspect, so you could go bold with colours,
06:40because there's plenty of light coming in.
06:41Yeah.
06:42But I'm inclined to keep it quite light still.
06:44Something cream?
06:45I just...
06:46Oh, not cream.
06:46Not cream.
06:47Come on.
06:48You can't paint it beige.
06:50What would you do, then?
06:51I don't know.
06:51Maybe, like, a nice French blue, and then accent the reveals in a slightly darker blue,
06:55or something like that.
06:56Yeah.
06:58And the blues seem to be catching.
07:00I think I've got blue in mind.
07:02Yeah.
07:02Like a light blue.
07:03Like a duck egg blue.
07:04Duck egg blue.
07:05I would love to do something like a nice pale Parisian-y blue.
07:11No.
07:11Yeah.
07:12I want it to feel really, like, uplifting and fresh in here.
07:16And blue is very calming.
07:18Sweet.
07:18So, committing to, like, a blue, like a light blue, and then finishing in a cornflower
07:23blue?
07:23Yeah.
07:24Something like that.
07:24We just don't have a lot of budget, so we need to really think clever about the paint.
07:31Absolutely made up for that room.
07:34Delighted.
07:34It's a really good size.
07:36Yeah.
07:36It's not overwhelmingly large, and we won't have to put in too much furniture.
07:40Yeah.
07:41But the budget is going to be a real hindrance.
07:43A real hindrance.
07:43We need to watch every euro.
07:45A real hindrance.
07:46So, we need bad, bad sides.
07:48Wardrobe.
07:49Armwap slash wardrobe.
07:50I think addressing the table is extremely important.
07:53I think the main concern is managing the budget, rather than anything.
07:57There are key pieces of furniture we want, and we don't know how much we're going to have
08:01to spend on that.
08:02Yeah.
08:02We need to find some fabric.
08:04Yeah.
08:05We need to have a look at what's in the brick on.
08:07Yeah.
08:07And then we need to get off and buy some paint.
08:10Yeah.
08:10Shall we get on with it?
08:11Yeah, let's do it.
08:11Let's go.
08:13I was really happy with the rub, actually.
08:15It's nice and bright and airy.
08:17There's a lot of positives for it, and it's not huge.
08:21The more room you've got, the more DIY you've got to do.
08:24Absolutely.
08:30Let's go shopping.
08:33Challenge underway, and all three pairs are on the hunt for their key pieces.
08:37The first thing on the list, we need to find the fabric.
08:39It kind of all hinges on the fabric.
08:43Yeah.
08:43If we can't find the fabric, or the fabric's too expensive, we're going to have to go straight
08:47back to the drawing board.
08:48Right.
08:49You know what we're looking for.
08:50I do.
08:51I do.
08:54This one, I just think, this is at the moment my fave, because that's eight euros a metre.
09:00Okay.
09:00I'm just going to leave that there.
09:03But I'm just going to have a look in the reduced section, because, oh, you never know, do you?
09:09This is the badger, innit?
09:11I mean, I do love that.
09:12I love that a lot.
09:13How much is that, though?
09:15It says 18, 19.
09:17I think that's what the canopy should be made of.
09:19So, do we make the canopy out of that, and then the curtains out of that lighter, cheaper
09:25material?
09:25Yeah.
09:27Take seven of that, and take six of this.
09:30Let's go.
09:31Let's do it again.
09:32Okay.
09:33How much is that, though?
09:35It's 211.07, please.
09:45Good day.
09:45Good day.
09:46Me?
09:47It does just terrify me that we'll spend 200 euros on fabric, and we haven't even got
09:51a bed.
09:51Yep.
09:52Yep.
09:53But while Nell and Edward splash nearly half their budget on fabric, the other pairs
09:59are taking a slower approach.
10:03We've got a little lovely bedroom chair to go for the dressing table and ceiling light.
10:09Well, we did a little bit of negotiating, so we've only 10 and 30.
10:13A little bit disappointed by that brocon because I was looking for some very big pieces of
10:17furniture, and they just didn't really have any.
10:20But I have found a beautiful mirror and a really nice water jug.
10:24Hopefully, Xavier's happy enough with that.
10:31What?
10:34Hello.
10:35Look at the bits I got.
10:36We're basically finished.
10:44You want to see what I got then?
10:45Yes.
10:46I got this mirror.
10:48It's not a bed, that's for sure.
10:49No, it's not a bed.
10:50Unless there's a bed in there.
10:51And I got a water jug.
10:54Isn't it nice?
10:55It's cool, it's cool.
10:56It's very cool.
10:57That's nice.
10:58It's pretty, isn't it?
10:59Yeah.
11:00Oh, my God.
11:01Don't do that to me.
11:03Knock, knock.
11:04Oh, no.
11:05Why do you both look so terrified?
11:07Not at all.
11:08They're not terrified.
11:10So, how are we getting on?
11:11Yeah, good.
11:12Good so far.
11:13No big pieces of furniture yet.
11:15What she means to say is it's all going to plan.
11:17It's all going perfectly to plan.
11:18As it always does for us.
11:19The plan being to create a beautiful bedroom.
11:23Yes.
11:23Yes.
11:24Which would normally have a sleeping area.
11:26Yes.
11:27As opposed to a vase.
11:28It's a water jug.
11:29It's a water jug.
11:31Yes.
11:31Okay.
11:31So, in terms of design, talk me through the layout.
11:34Obviously, we know where the water jug's going,
11:36we know where the mirror's going.
11:38Yeah.
11:38What about the other items?
11:39We are going to hopefully build a little bench seating area
11:43in front of the window where you'd be able to hide some storage.
11:46And then we'd like to obviously include a wardrobe,
11:48maybe a chest of drawers, depending on what we find at the Brocon,
11:51and it would be lovely to have a little dressing table.
11:55Okay.
11:55Now, in terms of budget, €500 wasn't a lot to start with,
11:59but now you've only got €470 because you've already made some purchases.
12:03Thanks for that, by the way.
12:04It's going to be good purchases.
12:06You wait and see.
12:07I'll be the judge of that.
12:10See you later.
12:11See you later.
12:12Returning with their day's purchases are the Yellows and the Navies.
12:17Oh, it's going to look fab.
12:19Get the idea.
12:20Can you hold it so I can see?
12:22Yep.
12:26Yeah, it looks great.
12:30We've just got to find Fred now.
12:34Great.
12:35Right, what's next?
12:37Well, we could do some paint samples, if you want.
12:41I was hoping you were going to say dinner, if I'm honest.
12:43Oh, okay.
12:44Dinner.
12:45Nice.
12:45Cool.
12:47This could be amazing or absolutely awful.
12:52I'm a little bit scared now.
12:55All three pairs seem really excited by the challenge.
12:58There was loads of energy, loads of excitement.
13:01The bedroom challenge is fantastic.
13:02They all went shopping, and not one of them came back with a bed.
13:17If they keep it that general size, I think three would probably cut it, wouldn't it, actually?
13:23It's day two at the chateau, and the pairs are busy with their bedroom challenge.
13:27The feeling is definitely that the people are really wanting to bring their A-game.
13:31Nobody wants to go home, we all want to stay, so you can feel a little bit more tension.
13:36After years spent working side by side, Chef Edward and waitress Nell are used to cooking up ideas together.
13:44Today's recipe, home mixed paint.
13:47So we've bought a large tub of white.
13:52It's 22 euros.
13:53Yeah.
13:54And a small tub of blue.
13:55And we're going to mix some blue in just a small amount to paint the ceiling, and then mix a
14:00bit more in to paint the walls.
14:01Instead of spending 200 euro, we've spent less than 50.
14:05Is it crazy?
14:06A little bit.
14:08Hey.
14:08Could it work?
14:09I hope so.
14:09Hope so.
14:10Yeah.
14:11Yeah.
14:11We're in trouble if it doesn't work, aren't we?
14:13Absolutely.
14:13I just think we should go and pack our bags if it doesn't work, if it should be done.
14:18Ingenuity is spreading throughout the chateau.
14:20We've been busy overnight.
14:23Very busy.
14:24We've been on the online marketplaces overnight, having conversations with some lovely people.
14:30We found a free bed, so we're really excited about that.
14:33And that obviously means, budget-wise, it's keeping us very much on track.
14:37Yeah.
14:37And I'm no longer in trouble for buying a mirror when we didn't need one.
14:48Here we are.
14:49A free bed.
14:51We're absolutely thrilled.
14:53I'm so happy.
14:54Yeah?
14:54Let's go.
14:55All right, let's go.
14:56Cool.
15:01After impressing with his panelling in the last challenge...
15:03I think that gap should be...
15:05It's seven downstairs.
15:07I think we should have it seven up here.
15:08Okay.
15:09From there to there.
15:09Yeah, yeah.
15:10Sam is keen to show off his newly found skills.
15:17We're going to replicate downstairs.
15:20Yeah.
15:20We're going to have oblong panels and then smaller square ones.
15:25And I think that'll just make it a bit more intricate.
15:27Yeah.
15:28Next one down.
15:28What have it left?
15:29Hello.
15:30Oh, hi.
15:31Good morning.
15:32How are you?
15:33Very well, thank you.
15:34How are you?
15:34Nearly done.
15:35I feel really rejuvenated this morning.
15:38We've got a good, strong plan, haven't we?
15:40Yeah.
15:40We believe we're trying to get a specific style on Luke that is unique to us.
15:45What's it going to look like?
15:46We're going to do a feature paneled section.
15:49That's the bad.
15:49And a wallpaper inside it.
15:51And then, like, panelled sections around the room, low down.
15:54Because of the colours we're going for.
15:56Duck egg.
15:57That's the standout colour, isn't it?
15:58Yeah.
15:59Like a duck egg.
16:00Le Blu Phenomenal.
16:02Hopefully it will be a phenomenal room.
16:04It sounds nice.
16:05Yeah.
16:07Yeah.
16:07And where's that going?
16:08That's going to go on the panelled sections.
16:10OK.
16:11Yeah.
16:11And then white above.
16:12So do you already have an established theme and looks?
16:15Have you got a signature style?
16:16We like a lot of antique furniture.
16:19We like upcycle a lot of pieces.
16:21We like French furniture as well.
16:23We've got a lot of French things at home.
16:25Oh, that's interesting.
16:26You've got a lot of antiques at home.
16:28Yeah.
16:28That really love of antiques has come from my own mum and dad.
16:31Growing up, they had an antique shop.
16:34And then a few years ago, Sam and I had the shop open ourselves.
16:38So we sold antique furniture.
16:40It's a coincidence, really, because my mum and dad also had a furniture shop as well.
16:44Hmm.
16:45And is that how you met?
16:46You met through your love of antique furniture?
16:48Well, not really.
16:49Not directly.
16:50It was just a strange coincidence.
16:51Right.
16:52We met out on a glamorous night in Wigan.
16:54This feels like your destiny.
16:57Yeah.
16:57You're always going to end up in a chateau in France.
16:59Well, that'd be nice, wouldn't it?
17:00I know.
17:01I'm excited.
17:02Thanks.
17:03I'm going to leave you to it.
17:03Oh, thanks so much.
17:05See you later.
17:06Let's crack on.
17:11Hello.
17:12Hello.
17:13This is a very smiley-looking room.
17:15Hi, Max.
17:16Do you want to know what we're doing?
17:17I absolutely want to know what you're doing.
17:18We're going for a very classic French look.
17:21The designers focus around this lovely fabric.
17:25And the plan is to create a Ciel de Lis over the bed.
17:29And then for our hidden storage element, we're going to have a chest of drawers and the top lifts up
17:36and reveals a Hollywood style makeup cabinet.
17:40Nice.
17:41But also, there's a little bit of two-for-one for you because that Ciel de Lis is just going
17:47to step off the wall a little bit and there's going to be some hidden hanging rails behind it.
17:51Okay.
17:52So double hidden storage, really.
17:54Double hidden storage.
17:55I almost suspected this would be one for you.
17:57Fabric.
17:58Go on.
17:58How much was that?
17:59200 euros.
18:01200 euros?
18:03Yep.
18:03Yep.
18:03So more than a third of your money has already been spent on not a bed or a wardrobe, but...
18:08Quite a lot of fun spending other people's money.
18:12Yeah.
18:12Right.
18:13So promise me when you come back from the shop today, you will have a bed.
18:17Just so I can sleep at night.
18:19Yeah, yeah.
18:19You're going to sleep on this bed, Max.
18:21Be fine.
18:21Right.
18:22Okay.
18:22I'm genuinely concerned.
18:24Go hard or go home.
18:27Right?
18:27But don't go home.
18:28You will be going home if there's no bed in this room.
18:31All right.
18:31Find a bed.
18:33How hard can it be?
18:36With just one bed and a chair purchased between them, furniture is top of the list for all three pairs.
18:42Let's get going then, shall we?
18:43Okay?
18:44Yeah.
18:44Okay, yeah, yeah.
18:53Wow.
18:55The question is, how much is all this stuff?
18:58You know, like, I haven't seen a price tag on anything.
19:00Here we go, there's a price tag on this one, I see.
19:02So, da-da-da, 90 euros.
19:06So, that's a no.
19:13I'm going to struggle a bit here.
19:15It's quite expensive.
19:16But while the navy and yellows struggle to stretch the budget.
19:21Nervous.
19:22Slightly more nervous than I was before.
19:26Tasha and Xavier have discovered a potential treasure trove.
19:37Here we go.
19:59Love it.
20:00Beautiful.
20:01Beautiful.
20:02This is amazing.
20:03Every single thing you lift up.
20:04Beautiful.
20:05Oh my goodness.
20:06Yes.
20:07We found a really spectacular bed, which has kind of outdone the first bed.
20:11We may be going back with two and making a decision.
20:20After relocating to a new brocante, things are also looking up for the other pairs.
20:28So, look at those.
20:30A few frames.
20:31There's your bed knobs and broomsticks.
20:33I want that one.
20:34This is the one I want.
20:35Yeah?
20:36Bed.
20:38I mean, that's quite good because it's got a mirror on it.
20:41It does look quite big, doesn't it?
20:42I'm just going to give Sam a quick call, just to double check measurements of the wardrobe.
20:48PHONE RINGS
20:49Oh, hi Sam.
20:52It's only me.
20:53I've found a wardrobe that I like.
20:56It's quite big.
20:57It is 53 deep.
21:01And the length is 161.
21:04This wall will take anything, so 161 is fine.
21:08OK, then we'll get the wardrobe.
21:10Well done.
21:10Good news of that.
21:11Fantastic.
21:12OK, then.
21:12Speak soon.
21:13See you later.
21:13Bye.
21:14Bye-bye-bye.
21:16Perfect.
21:19As Elizabeth secures her wardrobe...
21:21We just need a chest of drawers.
21:23..Edward turns his attention to the secret compartment.
21:27Like that.
21:27But bigger.
21:28This is just a little bit too small.
21:30Yes.
21:31If it was a little bit bigger.
21:32It's not Hidgin, is it?
21:47It's so annoying.
21:48This is almost perfect.
21:58Absolutely unbelievable.
22:00I can't get over this.
22:01We had just found this table.
22:03It looks like it was a sewing table,
22:05but it would make a fantastic dressing table.
22:08Can...
22:08Ooh!
22:09There's a rug.
22:10There's a rug.
22:11Oh, and it's a beautiful rug.
22:13There's a beautiful rug.
22:14And it has blue in it.
22:15Oh, my God.
22:16Jackpot.
22:17Stunning.
22:19Beautiful.
22:21Wow.
22:24What a piece that is.
22:26What were you thinking, like, for each piece?
22:30A flat place for everything.
22:32We want to be fair to you.
22:33So, like...
22:39250 or something like that.
22:41Yeah.
22:41For everything?
22:42Yes.
22:43You are too nice.
22:45Really?
22:45Hopefully it will get you along.
22:47And then...
22:47Thank you so much.
22:49Thank you so much.
22:50You don't know how much it means to us.
22:51We will hopefully be able to sleep at your bed.
22:55Yeah, you will.
22:55That's the plan.
22:56You're free for life.
22:57You're free for life.
22:58Thank you so much.
23:02I am mind-blown.
23:04They were so generous.
23:05We owe them our lives right now.
23:07It was incredible.
23:09This morning we picked up our free bed.
23:11And then we've seen this beautiful decorative bed here,
23:14but it doesn't have the side pieces.
23:16So, I think what we're going to try to do
23:17is create an amalgamation of two beds.
23:20A Frankenstein bed.
23:21We didn't think we were going to get a bed.
23:23We were concerned we wouldn't find a bed.
23:25And now we have two beds.
23:27And we have a more beautiful bed
23:29than I ever could have imagined.
23:31We have the Franken bed.
23:32And it's your job to make that Franken bed
23:34safe to sleep on.
23:35So, best of luck.
23:37I'll work on that.
23:43Fix your chair, yeah.
23:45Merci.
23:45Merci.
23:46Merci, monsieur.
23:53I bought a bed.
23:58Just get with me.
24:00We did it!
24:11It's day three of the challenge, and for Nell and Edward,
24:14time to put their paint plan into practice.
24:17The idea is we're going to colour drench the room,
24:19so that means everything is going to be the same colour.
24:23Window frames, windowsills, skirting boards and everything.
24:26We're going to paint the ceiling in a lighter blue colour,
24:28and we're going to bring that down the wall.
24:30Hopefully, it's going to look really good.
24:32In a bid to save valuable euros,
24:35they've decided to mix their own custom shades...
24:38..by hand.
24:39Oh, here we go.
24:41Oh, yeah.
24:43I feel quite clever right now.
24:46I think that's lovely.
24:47What do you think?
24:47I think it's really nice, actually.
24:49So, that's a tiny amount.
24:50It's just one blob of paint.
24:52We've gone for the very scientific method of measuring
24:55of the blob.
24:56Yes.
24:56The blob of paint.
24:57So, the ceiling is one blob of paint,
24:59the walls will be two blobs of paint,
25:01and everything else will be three blobs of paint.
25:04Ready?
25:05Here we go.
25:05First coat.
25:08Oh, it's nice.
25:09Oh, it is nice, isn't it?
25:11I like it.
25:12It's nice.
25:16While for the yellows,
25:17it's the local bird life...
25:19That green thing she's growing up, I don't fear it.
25:21..that's giving Sam inspiration.
25:23Just stop for a minute, just listen to that.
25:26That sharp piercing noise.
25:28Listen.
25:30Oh, yeah, I can hear it.
25:31That's...
25:31Yeah.
25:32It's cute, isn't it?
25:33I really want that.
25:34I want the Finch wallpaper now.
25:35I mean, that would be the dream,
25:37that, having that wallpaper.
25:38I can see Stephanie leaning out here with binoculars,
25:42listening for the green thing,
25:44but she's staying here.
25:45Aw.
25:47Yeah.
25:49Fantastic, isn't it?
25:50Saying to you, get the wallpaper.
25:53Get the wallpaper.
25:55He absolutely loves bird watching.
25:57Yeah.
25:58His dad loves it, and his brother as well.
26:00They're regularly sending each other pictures
26:02of good bird spots and what they've heard, yeah.
26:05The best sighting we've ever seen
26:07was a vulture in Yorkshire.
26:10It was like a big bound door in the sky.
26:12In Yorkshire, of all places, a vulture.
26:15I actually think it's a gift to us to listen to bird noise.
26:19It's a free gift.
26:20Why not enjoy it and appreciate it?
26:23Especially in this garden here.
26:24There's all sorts of noises out there, aren't there?
26:26We've got, like, a new David Attenborough.
26:30Over in the workshop, Xavier is giving life
26:33to his newest creation.
26:35We're making a Franken bed.
26:36It's my new baby.
26:38Two beds that need to become one bed.
26:42So I'm taking the sides off of one
26:43and the headboard and the foot off of another
26:47and combining the two and hoping that it works.
26:50But to do that,
26:51I need to create these little mortise and tenon joints
26:54that will kind of fit everything together.
26:58I reckon it's going to work, though,
26:59so, you know, I've got all the confidence in the world,
27:01as you can see.
27:04Not stress.
27:10While Ed is in the workshop,
27:13Nell is discovering the downside of paint mixing.
27:16What I should have done is I should have taken a picture
27:18of the colour when it was wet,
27:19cos that looks remarkably different.
27:22Let's do this.
27:24Oh, dear!
27:28That looks incredibly darker.
27:31Oh, dear.
27:35After dismantling their wardrobe to get it up the chateau's stairs...
27:41..elizabeth and Sam now have to put it all back together again.
27:45I think this... Is this the bottom here?
27:46No, that's the hanging rail.
27:48..but with no instructions and a pile of parts...
27:52Whereabouts, you know, when you look at it?
27:53Where was the cupboard bit?
27:55..they're facing a full-blown wardrobe malfunction.
27:58Whoa, whoa!
28:01Yep.
28:02There!
28:03Meanwhile, Xavier's master plan...
28:07..is in full swing.
28:09vitam, dam, dam, dam, dam, dam, dam, dam, dam, dam.
28:11I haven't darts with a headboard before.
28:14Right.
28:14What? It's a bit stiff!
28:15Bit wooden.
28:18Right, that's good, that's good.
28:21Yeah, yeah, like that, like that.
28:24I've got it.
28:24It's not going to curve in on you.
28:26She sits in there...
28:28Ah!
28:30And there's still some side bits to it.
28:34It's a good job I didn't buy anything bigger.
28:36So I've got my dowels, they fit into there, and then this goes on there, like that.
28:42And then we have a pretty strong bed at that point.
28:44Oh, sugar. It's just popped out. The whole thing's popped out. Hold on.
28:51Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, just kick it in.
28:55Yeah, yeah, slide.
28:57That's it. Sweet.
28:58So we just put a bit of glue in there, spit it everywhere.
29:02Wipe it off so Tash doesn't shout at me later.
29:05Go on the floor, and then eventually get it in place like that.
29:10Just check it in there like that.
29:13Our joint will fit in like a glove.
29:17I think actually being inside the property, this challenge,
29:20is showing us what it would be like to actually live here.
29:23I know it's making us very excited, and it's making us go that extra mile.
29:26This will be my bedroom when it's done. My bedroom.
29:28Tash can have another bedroom somewhere else, really, because she snores.
29:34This is a big moment, though.
29:35Go for it.
29:42Yay!
29:44Yes.
29:45Well done, well done.
29:52I'm painting the wardrobe white, because I think there's going to be too many clashing woods.
29:58I'm going for chateau chic.
30:00I knew you were going to say that.
30:03Yay!
30:04It's a bed.
30:05It's a bed.
30:06Oh, it looks really, really nice.
30:08It's a bed.
30:08These lateral struts are dovetailed, which is great, because it pulls them together.
30:13Yeah.
30:13So when you do...
30:14Oh, be careful.
30:15I meant to do that.
30:17As Tasha and Xavier transform something old into something new, for Nell, it's a case of something blue.
30:23I'm not even halfway done, and it still looks patchy.
30:28I'm going to call it, when he walks in, he's going to be like, ooh, that's blue.
30:34It does look a lot darker than it did yesterday.
30:42Hiya.
30:42Hiya.
30:43Oh, this looks great.
30:45You happy with the colour?
30:47I did say I thought you were going to come and go, ooh, that's blue.
30:51That is blue.
31:02Teams, can I have your attention, please?
31:06Oh, dear.
31:07It's time for your second petite challenge.
31:13Meet me at the workshop, where you'll find out what I've got in store for you this time.
31:18To the workshop.
31:29I'm hoping it's a bad, because we don't have one.
31:31I think if it's anything to do with soft furnishings, you're going to have to take the lead on this
31:35one.
31:35Yeah.
31:36Because I ain't got a clue.
31:37Oh, no.
31:50Oh, no.
31:52I hate...
31:52I'm terrible at sandwich.
31:54Oh, gosh.
31:56It's exciting.
31:57It does, isn't it?
31:59Oh, no.
32:01Love sewing.
32:02Oh, dear.
32:07Upcycling and repurposing are key skills for running a period property.
32:12Today, you have 90 minutes to create decorative cushions from this old pile of fabrics.
32:18In your pairs, you have to create two complementary cushions.
32:22So, after your 90 minutes, I will be choosing a winning pair, but unlike the last petite challenge, your creations
32:30will be going in your final guest bedroom.
32:33Oh, gosh.
32:34That's good.
32:35That's good.
32:35You can select any of the fabrics provided, but it's on a first-come, first-served basis.
32:41You have 90 minutes starting now.
32:51That's quite nice.
32:52You've got some pink and blue.
32:53Yeah?
32:55Yeah.
32:56Right, shall we talk game plan?
32:57Yeah.
32:57Do you want to just sit down?
32:58Yeah.
33:02We've got some fun bits here, haven't we?
33:03Yeah, that's cool.
33:05Well, I'm not feeling confident.
33:07Gosh, this is a terrible challenge.
33:09I don't even know where to begin.
33:10We've got an hour and a half for this.
33:12I've never done any sewing ever.
33:14A button fell off a pair of trousers, and I had to hold it up with a bungee cord once,
33:17but I don't think it counts as sewing.
33:19We don't know how to sew.
33:20We don't know how to sew at all.
33:22We don't know how to sew.
33:23She went to fashion college, by the way.
33:26I didn't sew anything.
33:27And has never sewed anything.
33:29I did fashion textiles for six months.
33:31I didn't sew anything.
33:32Isn't that bad?
33:33It's really bad.
33:34I really love this challenge.
33:35It's all about repurposing and upcycling those old fabrics.
33:38How wide do we reckon that window is?
33:41A stripe of that and a stripe of that.
33:43Oh, lovely.
33:43This petite challenge is all about attention to detail.
33:46I'm just going to have to try and wing it.
33:48I want to see clean seams, sharp corners.
33:55Was that enjoyable?
33:56Yeah.
33:57I thought you might like that.
33:58And a really good shape to the cushion.
34:00So I'm just going to do a really simple cushion.
34:04Sounds good.
34:04Is it like a small square of pasta or something inside it?
34:07Do you mean like a piece of ravioli?
34:08Is it like that's what I meant?
34:09Is it like ravioli, this?
34:11They might not all know their way around a sewing machine, but if there's one thing I love about this
34:15group, they'll give it their all, as they always do.
34:19So I was thinking as everything else is striped, I was going to do like a striped thing.
34:23Yeah, nice.
34:24Something kind of funky.
34:25So I was thinking main colour in this, strip of this, strip of that.
34:31Ooh.
34:32Is there anything you'd like me to do?
34:33We can do some measuring together if you'd like.
34:35Yeah, absolutely.
34:38I'm just going to go and sharpen my pencil and my lead fell out.
34:40Because I don't need it at all for this.
34:44So basically what it's going to look like is, imagine this fold, this is the inside of it though.
34:49So that is folded up.
34:51Then when it's turned out, it's got like a section where you can put the stuff in.
34:55That's what I'm hoping.
34:56Perfect.
34:56I would quite like a striped pink front and like a paisley blue back.
35:02So that we can just swap.
35:04And then you can swap them.
35:05Exactly.
35:06You see, dual use.
35:08Okay.
35:08I have made cushions before.
35:09I was planning on making cushions anyway.
35:11I know my way around a sewing machine.
35:12She says confidently, well, I just hack at this.
35:16I'm back.
35:16Thank you, babe.
35:18Oh, a nice one.
35:19I'm just going to have a go at doing this and then we'll see what happens.
35:23I'm just totally winging this.
35:24It's fine, don't worry.
35:26Right, you ready?
35:27Take your time.
35:27Say a prayer.
35:28Not your fingers.
35:29Is it on slow?
35:31Woo!
35:31Careful.
35:32You put your foot on it.
35:33I didn't.
35:34I actually didn't.
35:35Something went a bit wrong.
35:38That is cruise control for a sewing machine.
35:42I don't even know how to do this at all.
35:45Do you want to try?
35:46Yeah, let's have a go.
35:48It's looking good, that.
35:50Right.
35:51That's a good start, that, innit?
35:52Look at that.
35:52It doesn't look right, though, look.
35:55See how loose it is there?
35:58It's going to be dead wonky.
36:00Right, just when you're looking at it in the room, you'll have to squint.
36:04I've forgotten how to set a zip on.
36:06Oh, no.
36:07Woo!
36:08The zip's going to be inside out when you turn it over.
36:11Sons!
36:12Woo!
36:15Did anyone ask?
36:17No.
36:17Cool, thanks.
36:18I'll be quiet.
36:25Okay, let's go nice and slow, eh?
36:28I hope one is slow and not far.
36:36That's it, that's it, that's it.
36:37Shall I pull it?
36:37It's working.
36:38Yeah, go.
36:39It's working.
36:39Sweet.
36:41I'm a seamstress.
36:43Wow.
36:45These are good.
36:46Is there anything I can get for you?
36:48I'd really like a drink, actually.
36:50Yep.
36:50On it.
36:52This is the moment of truth.
36:53You ready?
36:54Yes, please.
36:55Oh, no.
36:56What's happened?
36:57Something's already gone wrong.
36:59My original idea, it's not actually, I haven't actually made that I've ended up with something
37:03else.
37:03This challenge is not sewn up yet.
37:06Oh, my gosh.
37:07That's half time, everybody, but no time for a tea break.
37:10We've got 45 minutes left.
37:12So I just need to lay that through you there.
37:14I think this is the first time you've looked serious about something.
37:18Have you actually got experience using a sewing machine?
37:20I'm not the faintest.
37:21This is the first time I've ever used a sewing machine.
37:24It's a fairly good first attempt from what I can see.
37:26You're going to take that.
37:27Can I hear that?
37:28She went to fashion college, by the way.
37:30I also don't know how to use a sewing machine.
37:35So you attended fashion college for how many years?
37:37Four.
37:38Four years of fashion college and you didn't learn to sew or did you not pay attention?
37:43Listen, my course was on fashion media.
37:46So I didn't pick up a sewing machine in the whole four years I was there.
37:50What?
37:52What even does fashion media mean?
37:55Criticises people that do sew, which she's doing right now.
37:58You can make your match.
37:59Exactly.
38:01I'm team mascot.
38:03I love that.
38:04Can you just pass me the scissors?
38:05Yes.
38:07I'm chief hander.
38:11I think maybe my time to shine is when it comes to stuffing.
38:14That's massive, this, isn't it?
38:15It's a bit of an odd shape.
38:16I'll fill this piece.
38:19I need to be stuffing this now, really, so we need to hurry up.
38:22Okay.
38:23All right.
38:27I think I've definitely taken on the more physical element of this challenge.
38:38I'm just going to take this and start stuffing it, okay?
38:40We don't want to overstuff it either, do we?
38:41Because we don't want it to be quite flat.
38:43It's like getting all cushioned like now, isn't it?
38:48Cushion number one bump.
38:51Where's the bit of fabric gone?
38:52What bit of fabric?
38:53The other bit of fabric for the back of this cushion.
38:56What have you done with it?
38:58I might have chopped it up.
38:59You didn't?
39:00There's more there.
39:01I believe he's just done that to me.
39:02I hate you.
39:04Xavier, we just spent ages measuring and cutting our fabric, and Xavier chopped it in half.
39:10Oh, I've sewed my zip the wrong way around.
39:12Bloody hell.
39:13Thought I had.
39:14Okay.
39:16Now, hang on a minute.
39:16This looks like you're undoing sewing, not sewing.
39:19Yeah, I know.
39:20I just put my zip the wrong way around.
39:22I think, Max, what we've got here is a perfectionist, so the way she'd sewn the zip in just wasn't
39:27quite right.
39:28Not quite right, meaning inside out.
39:30Inside out.
39:31Inside out.
39:31We'll go with inside out.
39:32Shall we just do it 60 again?
39:34Yeah.
39:35Hello.
39:36You're making good progress, you two, aren't you?
39:39Basic progress.
39:40You've made a cushion, though.
39:41Oh, no.
39:41It's not brilliant, though.
39:43Okay.
39:44Don't look too closely.
39:45Right.
39:45What's the actual plan?
39:46The first cushion we've made, although we've done it, it wasn't really the design I had in mind.
39:52I might make a third and pick out the best, too.
39:55That sounds like a sensible strategy, doesn't it?
39:57So, potentially, that was just a prototype.
39:59Possibly.
40:00Well, it looks good from a distance.
40:01Can you just judge from a distance, then?
40:03Stay positive.
40:04Keep going.
40:06See you later.
40:07I've forgotten how to put a zip on, essentially.
40:09It's just puckered a bit, which is really annoying.
40:11It's because I should have just hand sewn the zip on.
40:19Only five minutes left.
40:22Oh, no.
40:22The thread's come out.
40:24Simon's only five minutes.
40:25Five, five minutes.
40:26It's come out.
40:27I'm going to hand sew the zip on.
40:29Horrified is how we're feeling.
40:31Oh.
40:33I really don't like hand sewing, especially hand sewing under this much pressure is actually
40:37quite hard.
40:38I'm out of thread.
40:39You are kidding me.
40:40Do you need a hand?
40:42Yeah, could you?
40:42Could you?
40:43How does it work?
40:43How does it work, Tasha?
40:44I don't know, darling.
40:45I just don't want you to not be able to finish because the concentration on Xavier's face
40:51is incredible.
40:53I'm having an absolute nightmare.
40:55Here we go.
40:56Uh, put her up.
40:57Yeah.
40:57Time's up.
40:58Sewing machine's down.
41:00It's time to present your cushions.
41:02Yay!
41:03Two dodgy cushions finished.
41:06That is the worst cushion I have ever seen.
41:12With the cushions complete, it's time for me to take a closer look.
41:16Don't poke it too much, the stuffing, Mike.
41:18Well, talk to me about the design.
41:19We wanted to go with the same colour scheme that we have going on in our room, and we wanted
41:24it to hold in the filling.
41:26I mean, that's a low bar, isn't it?
41:28It's a low bar.
41:29I think we just about got there.
41:30So, I really like the thick fabric that you've used.
41:33A few little visible seams there.
41:36The thread is showing through in a couple of places.
41:39But for a first attempt, quite pleased with yourselves?
41:42Yeah.
41:43Yeah.
41:43Pleased with it in the end.
41:44We are.
41:48Sam and Elizabeth, what have we got here, then?
41:51We've got two cushions.
41:53I mean, you've got three cushions, strictly speaking.
41:55Yeah, we've got three, but obviously two have only been put forward for you to judge.
41:58I've tried to show two different techniques.
42:01I'll say techniques loosely.
42:03Right.
42:03So, I see you've gone for the envelope technique with this one.
42:07Yeah.
42:07Nice.
42:08That's a nice, straight seam.
42:10And then this second one, you've just put a seam along the top that's visible.
42:14And there are a few loose threads there just towards the end.
42:17Yes.
42:18Sorry about that.
42:20Don't apologise.
42:21They're going in your room.
42:23But overall, it's really quite sturdy, and the corners are lovely, actually.
42:26Oh, thank you.
42:27Mind if I just take a look at this one as well?
42:29Yeah, go for it.
42:29I love that fabric.
42:30Oh, yeah.
42:31You've gone for the envelope again.
42:32Yeah.
42:32And actually, the corners are really nice on this one.
42:35Why didn't you put that one forward?
42:36I think just because we were thinking of the colour scheme, we'd like matching ones in the room.
42:40OK, not the quality of the sewing.
42:45Erm, don't know what to say.
42:47I think we needed to tie in the colours to the overall theme of the room.
42:52We're not exactly where they're going on a homemade window seat.
42:56I don't know, you're not meant to say that.
43:00Don't tell the opposition.
43:00Don't tell the opposition.
43:02Sorry.
43:03Just because Nell helped you, don't take a look at that person.
43:05I know.
43:06Thanks, Nell, by the way.
43:07Yeah.
43:13So, Edward and Nell.
43:15So, two different sizes.
43:16Yeah.
43:16What's the idea behind that?
43:17They're going to stack on the bed.
43:19Also, Ed was taking forever stuffing it, so I just made it a bit smaller, because they
43:22weren't going to be the same size.
43:24It's a small one.
43:24We've got a zip, which is nice to see.
43:27Not the cleanest zip I've ever done.
43:28Bit of puckering there.
43:29A little bit.
43:30Fairly nice.
43:31It's quite a thin fabric, isn't it?
43:32You can kind of see through it.
43:34Yeah.
43:34You can see the stuffing a little bit.
43:35I do like the design and the ambition.
43:38You've panelled it with three different sections of fabric, and then a single colour on the
43:42back.
43:42They do go rather well together, don't they?
43:44Don't, sir.
43:46Well, I've made my mind up.
43:52Excellent work, everyone, but there can only be one winner.
43:56Congratulations, Nell and Edward.
44:03Now, you may take your cushions back to your rooms.
44:10Winner.
44:11Yeah.
44:12Well done, darling.
44:13That was an entirely down to you, that win.
44:17Yeah.
44:19I learnt a lot about sewing this afternoon.
44:22That we can't do it.
44:24That being the main thing.
44:25Erm, well, we weren't expecting to win the challenge.
44:29We've given it a good go.
44:30I'm pleased with the effort we've put in.
44:31And they can go in the room.
44:32They'll be part of it.
44:36Shall we have a massive pillow fight?
44:39Oh, my God.
44:41Mine won't withhold a pillow fight.
44:44It's going to be like a trail of stuffing.
44:46We'll be able to find our way back to the chateau.
44:52Next time.
44:56I meant to do that.
44:57The pairs pull out all the stops.
44:59I think this may well be the most intricate item I've ever heard.
45:02To wow us with their bedrooms.
45:03This is a big transformation.
45:06But who will be sleeping easy?
45:08This is called biting off more than you can chew.
45:10It's about an hour.
45:11Have you got time to do panelling?
45:12Yeah, I've got time.
45:13I have to do it now.
45:13And whose chateau dreams...
45:15This is when I get nervous.
45:16This is, like, when I start all the self-doubt.
45:18..will be put to bed.
45:20Leaving us today is...
45:22...
45:24...
45:52You
