00:01Welcome to Chateau DIY Win The Dream,
00:04the ultimate renovation showdown.
00:06Whose idea was this?
00:08The one man.
00:09Take him here, Marie.
00:11Over four thrilling weeks, creativity meets competition.
00:14Looks wicked, doesn't it?
00:15Perfect fit. Oh, my gosh.
00:18As determined duos battle it out to prove.
00:21I'm having an absolute nightmare.
00:23They've got the vision, skill and grit
00:25to win the ultimate prize.
00:26I haven't got a clue.
00:27I can cry. I can literally cry.
00:30The keys to this breathtaking French property.
00:34Set on the outskirts of a Normandy nature park,
00:37the property boasts six bedrooms, four bathrooms,
00:42two salons, five additional rooms to renovate,
00:46perfectly pruned gardens, stunning outbuildings,
00:49its very own orchard and even a historic bread oven.
00:53There's a lot to play for and if we lose, I'll be fuming.
00:57Three heats and a grand finale where only the best all rise.
01:02All the pairs have to do is show they have the renovation know-how
01:06to impress me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY.
01:10I think this is really creative.
01:12What a transformation.
01:14In weekly challenges designed to push their creativity and skills to the limit.
01:19The clock is ticking.
01:20Win the week and they secure their spot in the grand finale.
01:24The dream is real.
01:25The stakes are high.
01:27This is Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
01:39In a battle to win this magnificent Chateau in North-West France,
01:44four pairs were split into two teams.
01:46Wow.
01:47Given 1,000 euros.
01:50Where have we been?
01:50Where have we been?
01:51Where have we been hiding?
01:52And challenged to transform bare attic spaces.
01:55Got a bar.
01:57Into cosy snugs.
01:58A bit more to the right, Josh.
02:00Complete with a custom-made coffee table.
02:02A 70s stock time.
02:04They laid everything on the line.
02:06Trying our best to stay calm.
02:08There's a lot to play for.
02:09And if we lose, I'll be fuming.
02:12With stunning results.
02:15But for Sherilyn and Daniel, the Chateau dream was over.
02:21Excited.
02:22I feel really excited about this week.
02:24And I feel like because we were in the bottom two last week,
02:27we do have something to prove.
02:28Not only have we got brilliant creative ideas,
02:31but we've got the skills to turn this
02:33into a really lucrative business
02:35for both of us and our futures.
02:37I'm really happy after winning the last challenge,
02:39and we've had two wins now,
02:41so we're feeling a lot more confident.
02:43We cannot wait to get the new challenge,
02:45and we're just even more determined
02:46to get one step closer to winning the Chateau.
02:49With anything in life, you win or you learn,
02:51you never lose.
02:52So we've got to take what we learned from last week,
02:55take that confidence in that win,
02:56and just push forward, don't we?
02:58Now we've just got to see what the task is.
03:00Good morning. How are you all feeling?
03:01Good morning.
03:02Good. Thank you.
03:03Rested and ready for your second challenge?
03:05Yes.
03:06Come on, more enthusiasm.
03:08Absolutely.
03:09For your next challenge,
03:11I'd like each pair to create a breakfast room
03:13in their allocated space.
03:15Oh!
03:17Unexpected.
03:18You need to create a room that is practical
03:20and inviting for guests that would stay at this property.
03:23Your breakfast nook must include one piece of furniture
03:26that you've upholstered yourselves.
03:28Oh!
03:29OK.
03:31You'll have 500 euros, so every euro will count.
03:34You have six days to complete this challenge.
03:37As an individual challenge, you'll be judged in your pairs.
03:41And remember, one pair will be going home after this challenge.
03:47Your tools are waiting in your rooms.
03:50Your time starts now.
03:53Let's go.
03:54Right, what are we going to do?
04:03Good luck, guys.
04:05Good luck.
04:07Oh, wow.
04:10Two windows.
04:11Oh, look at the view.
04:12What a perfect place for breakfast.
04:14I have my ideas of spinning already.
04:16I'm nervous to see it.
04:18Oh, wow.
04:19OK.
04:20It's not very big, is it?
04:21Oh, my God, I literally have no ideas.
04:23Because it's just a white box.
04:27Ooh.
04:28Ooh.
04:29It's a good size.
04:30And what we've got is a blank canvas.
04:32Let's get these windows open.
04:33Fresh air.
04:34The stakes are high.
04:36Many chateaux like this one are run as B&Bs by British expats.
04:41So getting a breakfast room right is paramount.
04:44Are you thinking of seating for ten in here?
04:47Maybe do for six.
04:48We're going to need somewhere where we can store things.
04:51Tea and coffee making facilities.
04:52Somewhere where we can pack out pastries, cheese, breads.
04:56I want to walk in and get my tea and coffee straight away.
04:59I think that needs to be here.
05:00And there, either side of the window.
05:03You know, a table there and a table there maybe.
05:04No, we need to think about how many people it needs to seat.
05:06We want to create somewhere where breakfast might be served.
05:09Sort of a buffet-style continental breakfast.
05:11So maybe we need to work out where that might be placed.
05:14Yeah.
05:15On top of initial ideas,
05:17all of our pairs are trying to think of ways
05:19to make themselves stand out against their competition.
05:23The window's the feature in this room, isn't it?
05:26Yeah.
05:26I think it would be nice to have something from the middle
05:27underneath that.
05:29But is it obstructive?
05:30Yeah.
05:31I'd maybe just do one tabling beside the window.
05:34I think that's too obvious.
05:36We're feeling very daunted after seeing the challenge room
05:39because it's just a white box.
05:42There's no features to kind of work around,
05:44so it's difficult to find a starting point.
05:47We could have some window seats here and have breakfast
05:49and look out there.
05:50I think it's perfect for that retreat vibe,
05:52looking out onto the nature.
05:54And then table's here, table there,
05:56and then we could even have like a bigger table here or somewhere.
05:59A lot of people paint in North France.
06:01There's an easel at the market.
06:03How big was it?
06:05It was a standard easel,
06:06so it would be about this big and about this wide.
06:08Was it decorative as well?
06:09But it would be perfect in this corner.
06:11Yes.
06:12But for Joshua and Georgia, who have been together for 13 years,
06:16it's a case of back to the drawing board.
06:19I'm just listing all of the things on the brief
06:21that are important for us to fulfil
06:22so that we can't lose sight of them over the week
06:24and when we're shopping.
06:26I'm feeling a bit stressed right now.
06:27I think it's the budget is the main thing.
06:30500 quid doesn't go a long way.
06:32And this room is better.
06:34You know, we've got to get a nice light fitting, curtains.
06:37I really don't think we need curtains.
06:39People only go in here in the morning.
06:42The upholstery part of the brief
06:43will be fulfilled with our window seats.
06:46I think we'll start with them,
06:47make them our main focus,
06:48and then we'll see how we're doing for time
06:50and see what other things we can find
06:51that we might need to repurpose.
06:54The upholstery piece is vital, it's critical.
06:58That needs a chunk of money spending on it
06:59and it needs finishing beautifully.
07:02Yeah.
07:02At the second-hand shop, there were two church pews.
07:05Ooh.
07:05If I remember rightly.
07:07But the other side of it is
07:08there's no reason we can't take
07:09a really old king-sized bed head,
07:12re-upholster that and put a bench.
07:15Well, it's really thrown me off
07:16at being a breakfast room
07:17and I've never, ever thought about
07:20how I would decorate a breakfast room
07:21because you would never make one at home.
07:25I haven't got a clue.
07:27I said, no, this has really thrown me.
07:28I think the first day of the challenge
07:30we would really like to go out,
07:32see what's available
07:32and see the prices of everything
07:34to then sort of work out a budget plan
07:36and get a couple of pieces
07:37that we can work around.
07:38Meanwhile, the other pair's designs
07:40are taking shape
07:41and they begin drilling down on the detail.
07:43In this particular challenge for us,
07:46it'll be function over form,
07:48but it'll still look good.
07:50With this masking tape,
07:51we just like start to section up the space
07:53on the floor
07:53and we start to just see how much furniture
07:55we can actually fit in this room
07:57and then we can go out shopping.
07:58I think I have a good understanding
07:59of what a breakfast room is.
08:01Ain't no fried eggs
08:02and sausages
08:03and baked beans in there.
08:04We're going for health
08:05and well-being.
08:05Fresh and fruity.
08:08After you.
08:09To you.
08:09Thank you very much.
08:10Good luck shopping.
08:11You too.
08:12See you later.
08:16We're going to have a recce
08:17and see what they've got.
08:18See if that easel's still here.
08:22There's an easel.
08:23Is it for sale?
08:25It is for sale, yes.
08:2645 euros.
08:2745 euros.
08:28And is that the best price you can do on it?
08:30Well, 35 if it helps you.
08:32Put it on the nice-to-have list then, yeah.
08:33Much appreciated.
08:3535 euros.
08:36That's on the B list.
08:38So we need to get all the A stuff first.
08:39Shall we have a look next door at the tables?
08:42My biggest concern for the week is the budget.
08:44We had a thousand euros last week.
08:46This week we've only got 500
08:47which we're going to have to clutch them purse strings.
08:49We're going to have to haggle for a bargain.
08:51You found some chairs.
08:52Oh, they're 65 each.
08:54Yeah.
08:56Bloody expensive, isn't it?
08:58Every chair that you look at, they're all 60 quid.
09:00Everything's expensive.
09:01That's 500 euros.
09:02500.
09:02Just have a room with just a table in it.
09:05I'm really disappointed.
09:08Joshua and Georgia have also hit the shops,
09:10hoping for inspiration and to bag a bargain.
09:14I do feel like the pressure's more on me
09:15as I tend to come up with the ideas
09:17and then Josh is like the manual labourer.
09:19Yeah, at home I'm not allowed any say.
09:22That's quite nice.
09:26Hmm.
09:30Patio chairs.
09:32Hmm.
09:33They're 110 euros for the six.
09:35If they weren't so red, I'd quite like them.
09:36Maybe we just embrace the red but then change the seats.
09:40Yes.
09:41Simon, could we have a chat about these chairs?
09:44Certainly.
09:45So we just wonder what your, like, best offer is
09:47that you could give us for them.
09:50Do 70?
09:51Yeah?
09:52Yeah, let's go to 70.
09:54Thank you very much.
09:55Cheers, Simon.
09:57And while the orange pair's on a roll,
10:00Doncaster duo Daniel and Martin spot a sideboard
10:03that's ticking their boxes.
10:05Nice.
10:06Is it velvet lined?
10:08We can probably give it for 80 euros.
10:11Maybe not as fruitful in terms of coming away with anything.
10:14I still want that piece of furniture that we've just seen,
10:17but it may be out of budget.
10:18It's a champagne.
10:20Buffette.
10:21And we've got to be a budget.
10:22Yeah.
10:26Do you want to measure it?
10:27How wide is it?
10:28It's 106 and a half.
10:30That would have worked fine for us.
10:31Simon, how much is it?
10:3340 euros.
10:34It needs new handles.
10:36You take 30?
10:38God, that's it's you, yes.
10:41We've spent 100 euros, so we're 20% of our budget down.
10:45Feeling a little bit nervous,
10:46but we have got six chairs and a dresser unit.
10:51It's been a slow start for professional dancers Josh and Josh,
10:55who return to the chateau empty-handed.
11:00Hello.
11:01Hello.
11:02You two look very excited about this challenge.
11:05We are very excited and we already have lots of ideas.
11:09It does look a little bit like a murder scene in here, doesn't it?
11:12It looks like a load of boxes have been murdered.
11:14Trust me, they haven't, but they might be about to.
11:17So what's the plan?
11:18What am I standing on?
11:19I feel bad now.
11:20This is a piece of furniture, clearly.
11:21We imagine this room is going to be filled with lots of artists
11:24from all over the world coming to experience a rural retreat.
11:28And we imagine they were going to sit round this collaboration station,
11:31which is going to be a table.
11:33And what are these boxes in this corner?
11:35What you're looking at here is Ottoman box-style seating in the windows.
11:39Now, challenge one, you chose a very vibrant, bold colour palette.
11:43Are you going to do the same in here?
11:45We're definitely going bold and vibrant again.
11:47That's what we do.
11:48So we're just playing around with a few colours at the moment.
11:52So watch this space.
11:53Not giving anything away, is he?
11:57Although they failed to score any furniture,
12:00the green pair hit the bullseye with one purchase, or so they hope.
12:04Ta-da!
12:05And it's called Breakfast Room Green.
12:07Well, we hope it's green, because I ordered it all in French.
12:13Second.
12:16Oh, wow. That's beautiful.
12:18It's like pistachio ice cream, isn't it?
12:20Shall we see what it looks like on the wall?
12:24Love it.
12:28I'm really excited about the Breakfast Room Challenge
12:31and getting to see the pairs working together for the first time.
12:35Joshua and Georgia are already working really well together
12:38on an ever-evolving plan.
12:41She clearly is in charge, though, and he knows it.
12:44Josh, I'm trying to talk to you.
12:46Josh and Josh wouldn't even tell me their colour scheme.
12:49Does that mean it's going to be beautiful
12:51and it's a nice surprise, or don't they even know themselves?
12:55Martin and Danielle know the finish on the first challenge
12:58just wasn't good enough.
12:59I just hope they nail it this time.
13:11It's a new day at the Chateau, and faced with the challenge
13:14of producing practical and inviting breakfast rooms,
13:19the pairs are already feeling the pressure.
13:22Right, measure this one now.
13:23To make sure that is square for me.
13:25We spent all night thinking about how the hell
13:27are we going to do this with that tight budget.
13:29I think every single euro is going to be spent this week.
13:35We need to measure, measure, measure,
13:37because it's such a small room.
13:39I don't think you could fit eight guests in here comfortably.
13:42If I'm feeling super confident, I won't be putting in the effort.
13:45I need to feel like I'm failing in order to achieve.
13:48Fresh makes diamonds.
13:51I'm really excited for the challenge.
13:53Because it means my brain's got to just fire on every cylinder possible
13:56to come up with solutions.
13:58Because there are problems, there are solutions.
13:59You've just got to find them.
14:02Part of the brief is that each room must include
14:05one piece of upholstered furniture.
14:08The feedback we did get from the judges from last week
14:10is they love the sofa.
14:12We don't want to do exactly the same.
14:13We want to do a variation on it
14:15and make a bigger, better version of it
14:17and make that the future of the room.
14:20I'm not sure if we take it all the way round.
14:22Hello!
14:23This looks serious.
14:25What are you up to?
14:26We're trying to design it as though it's a space for us.
14:28As in, if we were to run the chateau
14:30and we would like to rent out the whole space as, like, an event space.
14:33In which case, we want to encourage people to sit together.
14:36We're going to do some lovely built-in seating in these corners.
14:40Then have tables and a chair on this side
14:43and a breakfast bar, tea and coffee station in the middle.
14:48And what item is going to be upholstered?
14:51The individual chairs, we're planning to upholster the seats of them
14:53and then we are planning to upholster the built-in bonquette seating.
14:57Have you had any thoughts on colour scheme yet?
14:59I know it's an acquired taste, but we think we might go for, like,
15:02pinks and whites.
15:04OK. We've definitely got a plan. I'm going to leave you to it.
15:07OK. Thank you.
15:09Despite the pressure of time, Danielle finds a moment to daydream.
15:14Can you imagine living here and, like, this is the view?
15:19I'm going to cry again.
15:21You are, aren't you? Yeah.
15:23It would be beautiful, wouldn't it?
15:25It's just a wonderful way of life, really.
15:28We've just got to fight for it, haven't we?
15:30The longer I spend here, the more comfortable I feel
15:32and I really can imagine living here now.
15:35And it's something I really do want.
15:38Josh and Josh had no luck shopping yesterday,
15:41but they're off to a better start today.
15:44We actually found a hardware shop
15:46and we've managed to pick up some paint
15:47and we also picked up some wallpaper.
15:49We're really conscious of money.
15:50You know, €500 sounds like a lot of money,
15:52but actually we've got a whole room to change
15:55and this was quite expensive.
15:57And it seems when it comes down to paint colour,
16:00the Joshes are on a similar page to the orange pair.
16:03We were kind of inspired by looking out the window
16:05and we can see some lovely pink roses out there,
16:08so we've kind of been inspired by that and we're going for it.
16:11Let's get it on the wall and see what it looks like.
16:13It's kind of not too pink, which is quite good.
16:15It's not too intense.
16:17We've gone for this kind of dusky pink
16:20and it's really calming
16:21and I think we're going to drench the room
16:23so as you walk in you'll be transported to this beautiful new space.
16:27Don't you love fabric shopping?
16:29I hate it.
16:32Bonjour!
16:33What do you think to this, Josh?
16:35Or is it just too rusty?
16:36Like, they're really, like, luxurious together.
16:38Yeah.
16:39But I just don't know which ones you'd use where.
16:43I think what I might do is ask them for some samples.
16:46Ah, merci beaucoup.
16:47The lady's kindly given us samples of the fabric
16:50so that we can go and look at paint
16:52and compare them in the room
16:54and then come back to my room
16:55and hopefully buy some of them.
17:00Oh, busy already, I see.
17:04So what's the basic layout?
17:05What are we going for?
17:06So we're going to do a banquet bench style in one corner.
17:09We've talked about having a big buffer here
17:11because storage is going to be key.
17:12So what are the items you're going to upholster in the room?
17:15The benches, the cushions and the chairs.
17:19Okay.
17:20And in terms of colour scheme, what are we going for?
17:22Well, we're the green team.
17:25But we're going to just do this wall, the ceiling and that one.
17:28And how do you think you're going to work your magic on this room
17:30so it stands out against the others?
17:32The skating board's quite square.
17:34So we're going to replicate that with the picture rail
17:36and then hang artwork.
17:38So you've got a design, you've got a schedule.
17:40I'll leave you to it.
17:45Okie doke.
17:46Let's do some shopping.
17:47Let's go.
17:49Although the plan for their room may be a little unclear,
17:52the orange pair are ahead when it comes to furniture.
17:56Spending €100 on six chairs and a sideboard yesterday.
18:00Ok, tables, tables, focus.
18:06Yeah, we need it to be about that deep.
18:09We're not going to get them the same depth, are we?
18:11That one's just too deep, isn't it?
18:13Oh, Josh, I didn't even see this one.
18:14This one's nice.
18:16Yeah, 86.
18:17Is that one 80?
18:19None of the tables are the same.
18:21George is trying to get tables that are all the same depth.
18:24I mean, it's just the nature of being at a charity shop.
18:27But they are all good prices.
18:29What do we do about the fact that this one's deeper than that one?
18:31Nothing.
18:33That's tables ticked off the list.
18:35Now it's time to find cushions for their feature bunkettes.
18:39These are the crop mattresses I saw earlier
18:40that I thought would be a good size.
18:42So they're a little bit too deep,
18:44but because they're foam, we can cut them shallower.
18:47To buy the foam at the sewing shop, it's really expensive.
18:50It's the same thing.
18:51We have to get the stuff from in here
18:53because we can't afford it anywhere else.
18:55What we decide to spend in here
18:56will affect what we can spend later on.
18:59Yeah, let's carry on and then we'll talk about it.
19:01Don't want to stress you out, Josh.
19:03First time she's ever said that.
19:06Back at the chateau,
19:08Josh and Josh have chosen to build rather than buy.
19:11We are just building a frame from some batons to create our window seats.
19:16And then we're going to make the frames
19:17and then we're going to cut some MDF to make the fronts and the tops.
19:21Previously, we have renovated one of our properties.
19:24So in this challenge, we're going to use all of our skills in painting, design, upholstery.
19:29We're going to do lots of different things within this space to make sure that we win.
19:33But most importantly, we're going to stick to the brief.
19:3620.5.
19:39Wait till you see it in here, it's amazing.
19:41I can't wait.
19:43Table and the buffy, let's pick them.
19:46Come on then, 20 euros.
19:48See, it's good in here.
19:5170 euros.
19:52That is a replica identical.
19:54You're still thinking about that other unit, aren't you?
19:56Clearly, the sideboard he saw yesterday is still on Martin's mind.
20:02Benches and they're the same colour.
20:03They're sturdy enough and it would save us some money.
20:05We don't have to go and buy the wood then.
20:06So we save 40 euros on the wood.
20:10I think we need like three teapots.
20:13There we go, we've got four teapots now.
20:15I thought we only needed three.
20:16No, we need four.
20:18OK.
20:19Should we leave this one for the other team to buy?
20:21I think you're seeing the two sides of the coin here, to be honest.
20:24I really worry about costs.
20:26Yeah, but you're employed to save money, whereas I'm employed to spend money.
20:31I think we're Yin and Yang.
20:33Josh is very much the people chatter,
20:35and I'm probably better at cracking on and making a plan
20:38and keeping the budget and sourcing things.
20:40But I think, especially when you're building,
20:42you need both of those,
20:43because you need someone that keeps the trades happy
20:45and someone that's actually getting stuff done.
20:49120.
20:50Yeah.
20:51Oh, mercy.
20:52Good morning.
20:52Good morning.
20:55Josh, that means have a good journey.
20:57It's been another successful shopping trip for the orange pair,
21:01but at a cost of 120 euros, they're feeling the squeeze.
21:06Still any leaves?
21:08A tiny amount.
21:09Yeah.
21:10Look, it's got the checkerboard on.
21:12What does this one look like underneath?
21:14The legs are splayed, like, on the benches.
21:17And these bits underneath come out.
21:19Yeah.
21:19OK, I'm happy with that table.
21:21And the benches.
21:22So he's agreed to do me the dining table,
21:26two benches and four chairs for 120 euros,
21:29and then the buffet.
21:32Ah, it's sold.
21:34Gonna break Martin's heart.
21:36Back at the chateau.
21:38That's the last chair.
21:39I've just finished this paint sample,
21:40and I really like it.
21:42Yeah, that's perfect.
21:43I think it's gonna dry a bit lighter.
21:45I think it'll dry darker.
21:47Really looking forward to tomorrow,
21:48getting stuck in,
21:49and hopefully by the end of the day,
21:51we'll have answered a lot of the questions
21:53that are tripping us up at the moment.
21:55Do we have to do the whole room in pink?
22:01It's the moment of truth
22:02for the Joshes and their window seats.
22:06Josh has never done this before.
22:08I've built similar things,
22:09like ottomans and things like that,
22:10and it is a very similar structure.
22:12I'm gonna glue him like this.
22:13Yeah, I'll do pilot hole.
22:15And then you're gonna pilot hole through.
22:17I'm trusting him to do it today,
22:19so then he can actually learn how to do it.
22:22It's more than just a challenge
22:24about a breakfast room.
22:25It's more about a lucrative business
22:26that could take us away from
22:28struggling from month to month
22:29in the really challenging industry
22:31that is performing arts,
22:32and have something that is a bit more stable,
22:35a bit more secure.
22:36I think that's good.
22:37Solid. Yeah?
22:38Yeah.
22:39Watch your sit on it now,
22:40and it all falls to places.
22:42It will not.
22:43Look.
22:44No flow.
22:49Chuffed a bit.
22:50One down.
22:51It worked.
22:59Back at the Chateau,
23:01our pairs are on day three
23:02of their renovation challenge
23:04to transform these blank spaces
23:06into breakfast rooms,
23:08which must include
23:09one upholstered piece of furniture.
23:11They only have 500 euros
23:13and six days to deliver.
23:16A straight line would have been nice.
23:19Yeah, leap saw into me.
23:21You're the executor and the finisher,
23:24and the ideas for yourself.
23:25We had a successful shopping trip,
23:27and we got most of the large items.
23:29We've got one more to get.
23:30The next thing,
23:30we're going to get the picture rail up.
23:32It needs to be straight.
23:33It needs to be together properly.
23:35Yeah, I think when it comes down to it,
23:38I'm the one that does take the time
23:40to make sure it's done right,
23:42where Danielle can be,
23:43just do it.
23:44But that's where I think
23:45we'll make a good team.
23:52Right, that's everything.
23:53Right now,
23:54we've almost completed
23:55the furniture shop.
23:57Fab.
23:58That's a big weight off our shoulders.
24:00I feel like we've got a step ahead
24:01of the game.
24:07We're doing the window latches.
24:09Yeah.
24:09But leave the windows.
24:12When we've done renovation projects at home,
24:14we've not had a big budget,
24:15and we've done exactly the same
24:16as what we're doing now,
24:17which is bide our time a little bit,
24:19search around for some good deals,
24:20and then when we're ready,
24:21we'll bring it back.
24:27The green pair still need a sideboard,
24:29and Martin's currently stuck
24:31on the one they spotted.
24:31on day one.
24:33It's like it's made for this space.
24:35If we can afford the buffet,
24:38we might as well mark it out
24:38and see where it would be,
24:39and then we know anything less
24:41than that would work,
24:42don't we?
24:43If I can make your dreams come true,
24:45my love, I will.
24:46But as the queen of the budget,
24:48you might just have to suck it up.
24:52The blue pair's budget
24:53is also under pressure,
24:54and with more people using
24:56online marketplaces to sell
24:58or repurpose old belongings,
25:00Josh has used this to his advantage.
25:03Hello.
25:04Hello.
25:05Hi.
25:05Is it Amy?
25:06Yeah, Amy.
25:07Hi. Yeah, Josh.
25:08Nice to meet you.
25:08Hi.
25:09Hi, Rosie.
25:11Got the tables out for you already.
25:13They're a little bit bigger
25:13than we imagined.
25:14We're going to kind of cut them down
25:15and make them into a square.
25:17And I also found these ones
25:18in the unit,
25:19so it's a kind of freebie.
25:21A freebie?
25:22Freebie!
25:23Are you sure you're happy
25:24with ten euros?
25:25Ten euros, still.
25:27Done deal.
25:27Thank you so much.
25:28I'm already thinking
25:29that we could maybe use the legs
25:30to make our collaboration station bench.
25:35Hello.
25:36Wow.
25:37I'm getting a real case of déjà vu.
25:40This colour is quite popular
25:42at the moment, apparently.
25:43Really?
25:44I'm not going to say any more.
25:45What's the plan for the rest of the room?
25:47So, for this wall here
25:48and the curved wall over there,
25:50we're going to wallpaper it with this.
25:53Nice.
25:53Yeah.
25:54And furniture, what's happening with that?
25:55Furniture.
25:56So, we've got the two window seats
25:57that we're going to upholster.
25:59We're going to create two,
26:00kind of, like, ottoman, like, long benches.
26:02And then we're going to upholster them as well.
26:04And then, on the wall behind,
26:06we're going to create, like,
26:07a back cushioning thing
26:09just for a bit more comfort.
26:10Right.
26:11You've still got a lot left to do,
26:12so I'm going to leave you to it.
26:14It's in about.
26:15I think the fact the other pair
26:17have picked a similar colour
26:18is absolutely fine for us.
26:19We just need to hope
26:20that ours is the judges' favourites.
26:23Out on the road,
26:25Josh has ticked tables off the list.
26:27Next up is a sideboard.
26:30Good morning.
26:32What do you think?
26:33I love it.
26:34We'll definitely take it.
26:35I'm glad it's going to a new home.
26:37Thank you so much.
26:38At 70 euros,
26:40it's not quite the bargain
26:41he was hoping for,
26:42but it fits perfectly
26:44with the vision they have
26:45for their room.
26:49While Martin finishes up
26:50the picture rail inside,
26:52Danielle heads outside
26:53for a secret project.
26:57I want to go out
26:58and get some photos
26:58of the local town
26:59to put in the room,
27:00because I think it would be
27:01a real point of interest for guests.
27:04Yeah, that's nice.
27:10I'm a church fan.
27:12Definitely a church fan.
27:15We went last Sunday,
27:16lit a candle set of prayers
27:17for our lost loved ones
27:18and prayed to get through this challenge
27:21with grace, humility and fairness.
27:26I've won every week at this rate.
27:33Last stop for Josh
27:34is the fabric shop.
27:36It's quite overwhelming coming in here
27:37because there's so much fabric
27:39and I'm on a very tight time limit
27:41so I need to get hunting.
27:43I know the color scheme
27:44that I'm going for.
27:45I'm definitely going for
27:46kind of this like
27:47off-green color.
27:48I'm going to match it
27:49with some pinks
27:50and I wanted to find one more fabric
27:51that's kind of like
27:52a creamy, stony color.
27:54One meter?
27:55How much?
27:56Twelve.
27:57Okay, perfect.
27:58One meter, please.
27:59Okay.
28:00It will be 78 euros,
28:02please.
28:03Thank you very much.
28:04At 78 euros for the lot,
28:07the fabrics will give the boys
28:08the luxurious look they're after.
28:11Back at the chateau,
28:13Joshua and Georgia
28:14are facing an unexpected budget blowout.
28:18Are those walls stud?
28:19Yeah.
28:21We'd originally planned to fix the seating to the walls.
28:25Just found out it's stud walls
28:26and there's really not a lot to secure them to.
28:29Not ideal.
28:30I think I might need more wood,
28:31but do we have it in the budget?
28:33Er...
28:34No.
28:36Hello, hello.
28:37Hello.
28:38Hey, Max.
28:38How are you doing?
28:39How are we getting on?
28:40This looks like progress.
28:41Oh, yeah.
28:42Slow progress.
28:43Why so slow?
28:44We'd just been planning to build that box seating
28:47and, like, yeah, there's nothing to fix too,
28:50so we were trying to save money
28:52and now we're going to have to do a proper box build.
28:56Like a free-standing piece of furniture
28:58rather than just half of it attached to the wall.
29:00We're just hoping we can do it out of this much thinner timber.
29:04I'm not sure a good customer experience
29:05would be falling through a seat.
29:07No.
29:08No.
29:09But it would be really comfy if it works.
29:12And if it doesn't?
29:13Er...
29:14We're going home.
29:16I love how casual you are about that.
29:18It worries me.
29:19Yeah.
29:20The challenge this week's definitely
29:22thrown some curveballs
29:23and we've almost run out of money.
29:25We'll definitely evolve the design as we go along
29:27and we'll always find a solution
29:29and we won't leave it looking rubbish.
29:34Josh?
29:35Yeah?
29:35Come here.
29:38Oh, it's massive.
29:40Oh, my gosh.
29:42Let's go.
29:43Shall we try and get on the stairs?
29:44Yeah.
29:46Is this going to fit?
29:47We just need to spin it a little bit more.
29:49No, no.
29:49There you go.
29:52Perfect.
29:53Oh.
29:55Oh, watch that wall, people.
29:56Right there.
29:57I hope it's going to fit in here.
29:59No?
29:59No.
30:00No, Theresa!
30:02Ow!
30:03OK, Josh, bottom end.
30:04We're going to try this.
30:05It's going to go up.
30:05It's going up.
30:06I can see it.
30:06I can see the vision.
30:08There we go.
30:09No dramas here.
30:10No dramas here.
30:11No dramas here.
30:12Un, deux, trois.
30:13Oh.
30:14Ah!
30:15Oh!
30:18She's in.
30:19Look at that.
30:20I'm trapped, mate.
30:21She's late.
30:21Oh, it's all right.
30:22You can stay here.
30:22We're not leaving this building.
30:24It's trapped.
30:30Can I have your attention, please?
30:33It's time for your second petite challenge.
30:36Oh.
30:36Follow me to the workshop where you'll find out what I've got in store for you today.
30:40Here we go.
30:40Oh, let's go.
30:43Competition is for us.
30:44There's so much talent going on here.
30:46But I have faith in us that we're going to do well.
30:49So, yeah.
30:49Fingers crossed.
30:50I'd say my confidence level's on, like, a five out of ten.
30:54It'll be fine.
30:55It'll be all right in the night.
30:56There's got to be a twist and turn with a petite challenge this week.
30:59Ooh.
31:00Eh?
31:01If it's extra budget, I'll sing a song.
31:04No.
31:05Don't sing a song.
31:07OK.
31:09Oh, this is a tea set.
31:11What the hell are we making?
31:14As you know, running a property like this requires creativity, ingenuity, and the ability to work under pressure.
31:22Creating things from offcuts and scrap wood is a key skill when renovating a period property.
31:27For today's petite challenge, you have two hours to create a display to showcase your crockery.
31:32So, I'll be looking for some really innovative designs.
31:38However, unlike the last petite challenge, all of your creations will form part of your final breakfast rooms.
31:46So, win or lose, you'll want to make sure you're creating something worthy of being on display.
31:54You have two hours.
31:55Your time starts now.
32:07A piece of timber like that.
32:08Do you know what I mean?
32:09Keep going.
32:10And then another one the other way.
32:12So, it's like a cross like that, yeah?
32:13Do you know what I mean?
32:14Yeah, yeah.
32:16Two at the back or one in the middle, up front?
32:18No.
32:18Two at the front, one in the back.
32:19Guys, I've got the jugs and the sugar bowl, but if you need them, just say I'm just taking one
32:24of everything to measure.
32:26This is good.
32:26Right.
32:27So, what are you thinking?
32:28Because I've got an idea.
32:28I don't know.
32:29I think we'll just stop.
32:30We'll take a breath.
32:31We'll draw it out.
32:31Two ideas on the pad.
32:33Two hours.
32:34I don't want to lose another challenge.
32:36Oh, man.
32:38Our whole theme is quite, like, chintzy, like, Marie Antoinette sort of style.
32:41So, I'm thinking, like, you know, like a tiered cake.
32:45Because it needs to be moveable, it's a stand that you can, like, pick up and move round.
32:49And the china sits in, like, quadrants.
32:52What we're going to do is use the palette to create sort of a base with three legs.
32:56And we're also going to create an arch backdrop, which is going to have these bits of wood to create
33:01some shelving.
33:02So, we think it's going to be quite big.
33:05I know you want to draw it out, but I'm thinking just we cut that down.
33:08Yeah.
33:09That becomes the top.
33:10That's just so obvious.
33:11Let's just cut a palette in half and put some plates on it.
33:13Well, okay.
33:14And you know what I mean, though?
33:15No, go for it.
33:16Tell me.
33:16I don't know.
33:16I just want...
33:17I don't know.
33:18I just want it smaller than that.
33:18I just don't want it to look like we've cut a palette down.
33:23I know we won the last challenge.
33:25That was arts and crafts.
33:26This is a lot of woodwork.
33:28Which is not our strong suit.
33:29It's our weakest thing.
33:31So, we need to measure out an arch.
33:32I'm looking for something circular.
33:33I know it looks like a palette, because it is a palette.
33:36I'm just having Martin.
33:37It's just really making me laugh.
33:41You know that coffee table idea where you've got plenty, plenty?
33:46We can do that.
33:47We've got plenty.
33:47Do it out for me.
33:49We've got a spacer between the legs.
33:51Make legs like that with maybe four lots of that.
33:56Ooh.
33:56Ooh.
33:57I'm picking up what you're putting down.
33:59I'm picking up what you're putting down.
34:00Yeah, I know.
34:00As the green pair edge closer to agreeing on a design, the Josh's vision is clear.
34:06I love arches.
34:07Why don't you just create something that feels a bit more grand with a curve on top?
34:18As part of their mission to produce inviting practical breakfast rooms.
34:22Right, how do we make four legs then out of these?
34:25Our three couples are being put to a new test.
34:28They have just two hours to battle it out in a petite challenge.
34:33Do you want to grab a plate just for sizing?
34:35Yeah.
34:37Using offcuts and scrap wood, their task is to create a moveable display to showcase their
34:42crockery.
34:43It's got to go in the room, remember?
34:44Which will form part of their final room design.
34:49That's 28 and a half.
34:50No, it's not.
34:50Here it is.
34:52I've got to cut it with a hand saw, Georgia, so it's not going to be perfect.
34:56You'll forget which one it is and then it'll be too small.
35:00I think we do have enough time.
35:01It's just how quick Josh can cut the circles.
35:05Can I help cut, or have we only got one?
35:06No, just get on with something else.
35:08I think you can do it though, as long as I don't talk to him.
35:12That's the size of it.
35:13That's all right for a coffee table actually.
35:15So I want at least 16 that length.
35:18Let's cheer up and then finish it, yeah?
35:20Not that I'm Mardy.
35:23Better late than never, the green pair finally begin their build.
35:27Three across, that's right.
35:31Doing a circle or an arch with this.
35:35No, I would not be doing this at home, but no power tools.
35:40Yeah, keep going, keep going.
35:41No, no, no, you're trying to look, you're trying to draw ideas.
35:43I can see it.
35:44He's trying to get ideas from me.
35:46I'm doing it this way so they're all the same length.
35:49That is square on the end.
35:53I think it's going to start to come together fairly quickly,
35:55but then we need to make it look functional and nice.
35:57Because it's a palette, they're going to make really sturdy legs.
36:00They're not very pretty, are they?
36:01I hate palettes.
36:02I hate palettes.
36:05No SB, so it's still quite rough, but it's the best that we can do with it.
36:11You've used half your time.
36:13You have one hour left.
36:17Better get a wiggle on, Mark.
36:19Yep.
36:19It's a competition, so we've got to move quick, get the job done.
36:22Perfect.
36:23I'm just a bit sweaty.
36:25I'm melting.
36:26I'm not sweating my eye.
36:27It's a hot day and we've been shoved in the sun.
36:32Now we've got a plan, I think we're all right.
36:34Right, if you say so.
36:38Oh, Christ, have I done these the wrong way around?
36:42Just be careful.
36:43I need to put my body into it.
36:44Be careful with it, though.
36:46I just need to push, Mark.
36:47I'll do it.
36:49Drill, drill, drill, baby.
36:57I just really hate how this is turning out.
36:59I just think it looks really bad.
37:01The OSB was not a good choice.
37:03The painted white looks even worse.
37:05Don't paint a different colour.
37:06You've got time.
37:12There?
37:13A bit higher.
37:13There?
37:14Yeah.
37:14I need to gently tap them in so I don't split that wood.
37:24Shall I see what this colour's like?
37:26Yeah.
37:28Blue will go nicely,
37:29because we've got quite a lot of pink and creamy colours,
37:32so it'll break it up a little bit.
37:34Georgia isn't the only one facing a colour crisis.
37:36Is that the right colour?
37:38How about two blue?
37:39Not like it.
37:39I prefer the lighter one, so let it dry.
37:42Go and get it.
37:43It looks like a really posh bird box at the minute, but yes.
37:47Oh, do you want to go light grey?
37:48Maybe we go grey and pink.
37:50Grey and pink?
37:51Yeah, let's do it.
37:52It's not beautiful, but...
37:53It will be.
37:54We'll just sand it.
37:55Gonna be doing a lot of bloody sanding, won't we?
37:58How are we getting on?
37:59We're rushing the final bit.
38:01I've just got to fix these in place.
38:04So what's your design?
38:05We were going for, like, a three-tiered cake sort of look.
38:09We've made it big enough for, like, bowls to go on the bottom,
38:11plates in the middle, and then teacups on top.
38:14Carry on.
38:14Cheers.
38:14Cheers.
38:17You've had 90 minutes.
38:19Just half an hour left.
38:21You need to work as fast as possible, Josh.
38:24Not at Josh's speed, at George's speed.
38:26I'm going to step him so you can put teacups going up.
38:29If you think you can do that in the time allotted.
38:33How are we getting on?
38:34All right.
38:34What's the design?
38:35So we're going for a little bit of a multipurpose,
38:37like, a coffee table to go between two chairs,
38:39and then what we can then do is we can serve cakes and fancies
38:42on a matching plate.
38:43Are you up against it?
38:45Can we barter for an extra half hour?
38:47Absolutely not.
38:48Unless you get one of those cakes.
38:49We'd better get cracking.
38:50Keep going.
38:51Are you all right?
38:52Are you struggling there?
38:53Sweat dripping in my eyes.
38:55The sun's in my eyes.
38:57But I'm a professional.
38:59A professional what?
39:00Bodger.
39:01All right, boys, how's it going?
39:03All right.
39:04Good.
39:04So what's the design?
39:05This is another one of Josh's kind of brainchilds.
39:08As always.
39:09As always.
39:09He had this idea to create this sort of arch display.
39:13And we're just making some shelves up here,
39:15and the shelves are going to come onto play as well.
39:17So we're going to have a couple of storage options
39:18and a little shelf on the bottom as well.
39:21OK.
39:21Is it staying this colour?
39:22As you can see, we've just opened a tub of pink paint,
39:25and now we're settling for this.
39:27Right.
39:27OK.
39:27We have got less than half an hour left.
39:30Yeah.
39:30We don't have time to change your mind too many times.
39:32No more changes in mind.
39:33We're going for it.
39:34Right.
39:34We're going for it.
39:35We're going for it.
39:35We're going for it.
39:36We're going.
39:36I'll leave you to it.
39:38What do you think Max thought of our design?
39:41I think Max probably thought,
39:43what the hell are these guys doing?
39:46It's not the beautiful piece I thought it was going to be.
39:50You only have 15 minutes left.
39:5315 minutes remaining.
39:56No going back now.
39:57That's better.
39:58Every chateau needs a bit of gold.
40:00There you two sets up legs for it.
40:02It's quite sturdy.
40:03What goes where?
40:04Can you remember which side went where?
40:06Seriously running out of time.
40:08Where's this one going?
40:10Yeah.
40:10Here?
40:11Go.
40:11Hold it in.
40:12Level.
40:13Hold there.
40:14Don't move.
40:14Don't move.
40:16It's a bit slanted, that.
40:18It's too big.
40:20Or is it the other way round?
40:21The other way round.
40:22That way.
40:24Say it's not horrific, but I can't tell lies.
40:27That's awful.
40:29It's bad, isn't it?
40:30I just need a bigger hole doing.
40:31OK.
40:32How much bigger?
40:33Like a lot bigger.
40:35Don't do it if it's going to take you forever.
40:37It's more important that we finish this.
40:39I think because we haven't had much confidence earlier in the week, I really wanted to win
40:42this, and I'm not sure if we could.
40:44It is looking better, though, as we're putting it together, so I'm feeling pleased about that.
40:48At least it is moveable, which is the brief.
40:53Oh, there's a wasp.
40:53Josh, drill.
40:54Drill.
40:54Is that weird?
40:55No, this is easy.
40:55You don't drill.
40:56You won't be able to with a drill.
40:58You haven't got time to change the battery.
40:59There's literally 30 seconds.
41:01No time for a cuppa.
41:02You've only got five minutes left.
41:04Where's the string?
41:05I just gave it you.
41:07It's there.
41:09Josh, how do you get this out?
41:10Like that.
41:13Ah!
41:14The pressure.
41:15Just calm down.
41:16Yeah.
41:19I ain't got time to paint the bottom, have I?
41:21Are you more likely to do a tight knot than me?
41:24I'm not great with knots.
41:26What are you doing?
41:26I've just pressed it too many times, now it's running.
41:30Josh, do you want to help me just do the edges?
41:32Because that's the bit you're going to see the most.
41:35It's as good as it's going to get for now.
41:38That's terrible.
41:40Oh, well.
41:42Time's up.
41:43Tools down.
41:44It's time to present your creations.
41:47Ta-da.
41:48Stop.
41:49Josh.
41:50Behave yourself.
41:53I think we've done really well.
41:55Yeah, we have.
41:56Well done.
41:57Well done.
41:58Oh, you're gross and sweaty.
41:59Yeah, but that's how you like me.
42:02With the crockery displays complete, it's time to take a closer look.
42:07So, Josh and Josh, what's the concept behind your design?
42:10So, we wanted to create a display unit to show off the crockery in the room.
42:13We wanted to kind of put it, like, central in the space,
42:15something that would catch everyone's eye.
42:17So, from the front, I can see it's fully painted.
42:19From the side, there's just a few little bits you didn't get around to finishing.
42:22Time was pretty tight towards the end of the challenge.
42:24And in terms of it being freestanding and moveable, do you think you've hit that part of the brief?
42:29I think it fits the brief.
42:30It's freestanding.
42:31It can stand up.
42:32It's solid as a rock.
42:32We can move it around.
42:33We might have to take the plates off first just so they don't tumble off.
42:36But, yeah, we're happy with it.
42:38Well, given it was two hours, fantastic effort.
42:48Joshua and Georgia, tell me all about your creation.
42:51We wanted to create something that was moveable because that was a key part of the brief.
42:55And we thought that this could go on a tabletop or as a freestanding piece of furniture on the floor.
42:59And what about your choice of materials?
43:02The choice of the OSB wasn't perfect, but it was the only material we had available to be able to
43:07achieve what we wanted to.
43:09Yeah, it's still pretty rough.
43:11Good effort.
43:16Danielle and Martin, what have we got here?
43:19So we wanted to create a multifunctional coffee table.
43:22What we can also do with that is obviously change the displays, pop cakes in there.
43:25And were the plates going in the side of the legs always the plan or was that an afterthought?
43:30The bigger plates were going to go in the legs and then they didn't go in the legs.
43:33So Martin put the little plate in the leg and it looked all right.
43:36And I'm interested to know if the yellow section lifts off as a separate tray.
43:40Kind of did.
43:42It kind of did.
43:43The paint stuck it on so I just need to loosen it off.
43:46Great stuff.
43:47Thank you so much.
43:55You've all put in a fantastic effort, but there can only be one winner.
43:59And the winner for this petite challenge is...
44:06Joshua and Georgia.
44:08My God.
44:09I can't believe that.
44:12So if you'd like to take your creations back to your breakfast rooms and final well done everybody.
44:18I can't believe we won.
44:20But we both work better under pressure and we need that deadline to work towards.
44:24The challenge was challenging today. It wasn't stressful, but we bickered quite a bit.
44:27It'd have been nice to win, but it would be way more important to go through to the next challenge.
44:32We feel fine about losing the petite challenge. We wanted to take a risk and make something a bit bigger.
44:36Still feeling confident. You can only do your best at the end of the day.
44:39I think we did a great job, so I'm really happy.
44:43Next time, tension rises as the three pairs battle it out to complete breakfast room renovations.
44:50Oh no.
44:51Yeah, it looks strange.
44:52Left one to the left.
44:53To prove they deserve to win this chateau.
44:56Cool.
44:56But can they do it in time?
44:58I need you out at wait.
45:00Time's up.
45:01Time's up.
45:01Time's up.
45:03Time's up.
45:06Time's up.
45:17Time's up.
45:19Time's up.
45:20Time's up.
45:21Time's up.
45:22Time's up.
45:24Time's up.eté
45:27- компьютера. Time's
45:27up. Time's
45:29up. Second time.
