00:00What joy the blessed assurance is, I know that my Redeemer hairs.
00:13Then Job replied to the Lord, I know that you can do all things.
00:19No plan of yours can be thwarted.
00:23You asked, who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?
00:27Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
00:34You said, listen now and I will speak, I will question you and you shall answer me.
00:40My ears have heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you.
00:44Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.
00:50After the Lord had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite,
00:55I am angry with you and your two friends because you have not spoken of me what is right as
01:02my servant Job has.
01:04So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for
01:12yourselves.
01:13My servant Job will pray for you and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to
01:19your folly.
01:20You have not spoken of me what is right as my servant Job has.
01:25So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Namathite did what the Lord had told them and the
01:34Lord accepted Job's prayer.
01:37After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as
01:44he had before.
01:44All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him at his house.
01:53They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought upon him and each one gave him
02:00a piece of silver and a gold ring.
02:02The Lord blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the first.
02:08He had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen and 1,000 donkeys.
02:16And he also had seven sons and three daughters.
02:20The first daughter he named Jemima, the second Keziah and the third Kerenhapuch.
02:29Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job's daughters and their father granted them an
02:37inheritance along with their brothers.
02:39After this Job lived 140 years, he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation and so he
02:50died old and full of years.
02:55And past weeks we've heard four excellent speakers covering the various sections for the first 37 chapters of Job.
03:07And now I've been given the considerably easier task of just covering chapters 38 to 42 with a subject attached,
03:18The Lord Speaks.
03:20Because that's what it's all about.
03:21That's what those chapters are all about really, the Lord speaking.
03:26And I'm grateful to Andy that understanding that I'm nowhere near academically and technically gifted as the previous speakers,
03:35that he's given me the easiest part because their part was quite controversial chapters and difficult chapters.
03:44So I've got the easy bit really and the exciting bit as far as I'm concerned anyway.
03:49So chapter 38 is where I take over and is, of course, where God takes the discourse from Job's first
03:59four friends.
04:01Firstly, the three older men, Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar, who spoke themselves out,
04:07trying to do their utmost to convince Job, according to their own thinking, of course,
04:13and their own logic, that he must be guilty, surely he must be guilty of all sorts of unconfessed and
04:21undisclosed sins,
04:23and that he must surely be deserving of anything and everything that God was putting on him.
04:29After all, they explain that everybody knows that the Lord is a just and righteous God,
04:37and he'd never allow somebody to go through any sort of affliction like Job was going through,
04:44unless there was some awful sin behind it.
04:48Isn't that right?
04:49Isn't that what people think?
04:51And unfortunately, it's amazing how many self-confessed Christians still believe that.
04:58They still believe that, surely, if somebody is suffering badly, it must be sin behind it.
05:07But anyway, what we saw in those first 37 chapters, and just a quick overview here,
05:15although it may not sound too quick for the rest of you,
05:18we see the three friends, right?
05:21They finally exhaust themselves, coming out with everything that started off with one week of sitting quietly with Job.
05:31Then they moved.
05:32At the end of the week, they started speaking with little suggestions of what might be behind his suffering,
05:40what they think might be behind it.
05:43And that was in the early stages.
05:46But then in the later stages, we see as the story developed,
05:51that they ended up with outright shouted accusations at Job, as we're going to be seeing in a moment.
05:59And something, I feel that that is really a picture of what was really happening.
06:04Because, really, we know who was behind it.
06:08We know Satan was behind this whole story, all the suffering.
06:12It was Satan that was causing all of these things,
06:16and had been given various permissions to do various things.
06:20And I think that this increasing desperation to prove Job a sinner and to get him to curse God,
06:33as they would say, and as Job's own wife said,
06:36was Satan pushing the buttons, as it were, of Job's friends.
06:43In his mounting frustration and desperation,
06:49Satan knew that he only had, he would only be given a limited amount of time
06:56to do what he needed to do to Job.
07:01So we see Satan's desperation reflected in those three friends,
07:06and he's prompting them to go from suggestion to accusations and then shouting at Job.
07:15That awful moment when Job's wife herself, in chapter 2, says,
07:20Are you still maintaining your integrity?
07:23Curse God and die, she said to him.
07:27Despite all of that, he refrained from doing anything of the time.
07:33He held fast.
07:35I may not understand.
07:37It's like that first hymn we were singing.
07:39We may not understand things, but I know that my Redeemer lives, and that's enough for me.
07:48How often, when we're going through physically or emotional difficulties, painful difficulties,
07:56and all these trials we go through as children of God in life,
08:01we would do anything to cut them short.
08:04Anything, even as Job expressed, even death would be preferable to the pain and anguish.
08:11And we saw this reflected in what Job said.
08:15We've seen it in Moses.
08:18Moses asked for death.
08:20Elijah asked for death.
08:21Jeremiah asked for death.
08:23And even David declared his desire for death when he was going through trials and so on.
08:32And the Apostle Paul himself, in 2 Corinthians 1, he says,
08:38Even I despaired of life itself.
08:42I despaired of life itself.
08:44So people would do anything when they're going through it.
08:47It's not a matter of spirituality.
08:49It's only unspiritual people that get frustrated and long for the release from those trials and those difficulties.
09:00But it's everybody who goes through them.
09:04Because we're human.
09:06We're flesh and blood at the end of the day.
09:09So as Satan becomes more desperate to cause Job to turn against God,
09:14and knowing that he doesn't have much time before God will step in and say,
09:19Stop! Enough! That's it! No more!
09:22So Satan tries to make things harder and harder for Job.
09:26As he sees he has less and less time.
09:31Yes, Satan's going crazy, trying, throwing everything he can at Job,
09:37because he can't know the day or the hour when the Lord will shout, Stop!
09:45Neither can...
09:45We don't know it.
09:47Satan doesn't know it.
09:48And yet Satan can see from the signs around him
09:53what Jesus calls the seasons,
09:55and he says we should look for about the end, that time,
09:59when Jesus will come and say, Stop! Enough!
10:03He knows his time is short,
10:06and we know that the time on this earth is short.
10:12And Satan is getting desperate,
10:14and we see in the same way in this world
10:17so many things happening worldwide within our societies and our cultures.
10:23We see things which even only 10, 20 years ago,
10:26if people had told us would be happening now,
10:30it would have seemed unimaginable and laughable.
10:35Just as Satan was doing in Job's time, he's doing now.
10:41And yet, despite everything,
10:44Job held on, saying,
10:47I know that my Redeemer lives.
10:50And as I said, anyone who's come to know the Lord Jesus and love him
10:55will often find times in our lives
10:58when we may be confused and fearful
11:00about what's happening in our lives
11:03and what's going on around us
11:04and wishing that we were anywhere other than we were where we are at that moment.
11:09And if we can just say,
11:11I know that my Redeemer lives,
11:13if we've got enough to hold on to with that,
11:17we surely must be able to get through it.
11:20Because it means that our eyes are on the Lord
11:23and not on our circumstances.
11:27Job, in chapter 23,
11:29says,
11:31He knoweth the way that I take,
11:33and when he has tried me,
11:35I shall come forth as gold.
11:37But remember, friends,
11:40that gold can't be purified
11:44to be made what it is,
11:46that precious thing,
11:47that precious commodity,
11:49the valuable commodity
11:51which shines and is desired by everybody
11:54unless it first goes through that blazing furnace
11:58of purification first.
12:00It has to go through the purification process.
12:04And so we see Job's first three friends
12:06exhausting what they had to say
12:08and giving Job a moment
12:10to be able to speak out
12:13and lament his innocence, as it were.
12:15And so for six long chapters,
12:18we hear Job talking
12:21and exhausting himself,
12:22crying out to the Lord
12:25until the end of chapter 31
12:27when we hear the physically
12:30and emotionally drawn out Job
12:33saying,
12:34Oh, that I had someone to hear me.
12:37I now sign my defense.
12:39That means I'm signing off the defense
12:42that I'm making.
12:43Let the Almighty answer me.
12:47And does he hear anything?
12:49No.
12:49We find that Job still has no answer
12:53or word from God.
12:55But fear not.
12:58Because there's always another good friend around,
13:00isn't there?
13:01There's always another good friend around
13:03who's eager to share his thoughts
13:06and insights about what we're going through
13:09to give us his views
13:10on what's happening in our lives
13:12just when we least need it.
13:15There's always somebody there.
13:17And so we now see
13:19that youngster, Elihu.
13:21He's remained quiet up to now
13:23and he's been waiting for his opportunity
13:26to put everybody right.
13:28And so we have Elihu starting out
13:31with his own viewpoint.
13:33And he does it very emphatically.
13:37He starts to tell us
13:39what Job's suffering was really about,
13:42according to Elihu, anyway.
13:44From the beginning of chapter 32
13:46right to the end of chapter 37.
13:50Five chapters.
13:51And he hardly draws a breath
13:53for five chapters there.
13:55And yet there's not a single peep
13:57in all that time out of Job.
14:00In fairness to Elihu, though,
14:03we have to be fair to him,
14:04he moved the debate
14:06away from the accusations
14:08that the previous three friends
14:10were making.
14:12And those accusations
14:14of Job's suffering
14:15was a consequence
14:17of awful sins,
14:19hidden sins.
14:20And Elihu offers a different,
14:23albeit really, I suppose,
14:25incomplete perspective, doesn't he?
14:27That God is sovereign.
14:29Elihu says God is sovereign.
14:31And he uses suffering
14:33as a form of teaching
14:34and correction.
14:36And that Job needs humility
14:38before God.
14:40Because God's the creator,
14:42he can do anything.
14:44So humble yourself, therefore, Job.
14:47You're not humble enough.
14:49So that's quite an improvement
14:50on these outright accusations
14:53that they had built up to,
14:54that the three previous friends
14:56had built up to.
14:57But it's still not enough
14:59to win that proverbial coconut,
15:01is it?
15:01Not even close.
15:03No other prize from God,
15:05in fact.
15:07And interestingly enough,
15:08had all of Job's friends,
15:11all four of them,
15:12just continued what they were doing
15:14in that first week,
15:16just sitting with him
15:17quietly without speaking,
15:20God would have looked upon them
15:22with much more approval
15:24than he did.
15:26But like all of us,
15:28we find just sitting
15:29and waiting on the Lord
15:31so difficult, don't we?
15:32We find just sitting
15:33with those who are hurting
15:35or mourning
15:36and mourning quietly with them,
15:39we find it all but impossible.
15:40We feel we've got to contribute.
15:42We've got to say something.
15:44That's just human, isn't it?
15:46We feel compelled
15:47to speak out
15:49and give our supposedly
15:51helpful insights.
15:52What I find really,
15:55really challenging,
15:56especially challenging
15:57in all of this,
15:59and even scary in a way,
16:01is the way that all four
16:03of Job's friends
16:05are incredibly convinced
16:09that each and every one of them
16:12had the answers,
16:15that they understood,
16:16that they had this
16:18infallible insight
16:21into how God really works.
16:25Each of them were undoubtedly
16:26very sincere,
16:29but they were sincerely wrong,
16:30unfortunately.
16:33Eliphaz,
16:34we read earlier on,
16:36was convinced
16:37that his opinions
16:38were the result
16:39of a vision and dreams,
16:40he said.
16:41I had this vision.
16:42I've had these dreams.
16:44I've seen it all.
16:45I understand these things.
16:48And he believes
16:49that the Lord revealed
16:51what he had said to him.
16:53And he was confident,
16:55even arrogantly,
16:57turned to Job,
16:58chapter 15,
16:59and he says,
17:00now listen to me, Job,
17:02he says,
17:03I'll explain it to you
17:05and tell you
17:05what I have seen.
17:07The arrogance of it all.
17:09But he's totally convinced
17:11that his view was right.
17:14And even in chapter 22,
17:16later,
17:17he would go so far
17:19as to tell Job
17:20that clearly
17:21his wickedness
17:23must be great
17:24and his sins
17:25must be endless,
17:26he says.
17:29And so he continues
17:30to rant
17:31about Job's imagined
17:32serious sins.
17:34But Elihu takes that
17:36to a different level,
17:38a whole new level,
17:39from chapters 32 and 33.
17:41He speaks about how
17:43the very Spirit of God
17:45is compelling me
17:47to speak
17:48and say these things.
17:51He believes
17:52it's God compelling him
17:53to speak
17:54and put Job right.
17:56Elihu says,
17:57the Spirit inside him
17:58has given him
17:59the words to speak
18:00and that his words
18:02are from an upright heart
18:03and sincerity
18:05with the very breath
18:07of the Almighty
18:08giving him words.
18:10Wow.
18:11I'd say that's a bit dangerous.
18:13Yeah.
18:15That rather reminds me
18:16of the many
18:17self-proclaimed prophets
18:18that we see
18:19over and over and over
18:21and I've come across
18:22over the decades
18:23as I'm sure you have.
18:25Each of them
18:26proclaiming
18:26the Lord
18:27has given them
18:28the words
18:29and even
18:30present them
18:31to us
18:32with some sort
18:33of God voice
18:33that some of them
18:34put on
18:35and you know
18:36they say
18:37and thus says
18:38the Lord.
18:40So convincing
18:41people
18:41these things
18:43are true.
18:43how often
18:44have we heard
18:45people
18:45using
18:46those same
18:47words
18:47that are in here
18:48in Job
18:48from Job's friends
18:50and saying
18:51that they've got
18:52special revelations
18:54special things
18:55they've had a dream
18:56or a vision
18:57and this is how
18:58the Holy Spirit
18:59of God
18:59is compelling them
19:00and guiding them
19:01to what they say
19:02and in particular
19:04these revelations
19:05I've got a revelation
19:06for the church
19:07and so on
19:09and I suppose
19:10it's just as well
19:11that Deuteronomy 18
19:12isn't still
19:13enacted
19:14isn't it
19:15because it says there
19:16but the prophet
19:18who presumes
19:18to speak
19:19in my word
19:20and my name
19:21that I have not
19:22commanded them
19:22to speak
19:23that same prophet
19:25shall die.
19:27Now
19:27let me just clarify
19:29something here
19:30right
19:30I do
19:31strongly
19:33believe
19:33that the Lord
19:35gives words
19:36visions
19:37and dreams
19:38I believe
19:39in all of that
19:40right
19:41he gives
19:42words
19:43visions
19:44and dreams
19:45to individuals
19:46to share
19:48within the church
19:48but so many
19:51probably the majority
19:52that we see
19:53presented
19:54when they're
19:55weighed up
19:56against the word
19:57of God
19:57the Bible
19:58which is the way
19:59all of these things
20:00should be weighed up
20:01when we hear them
20:02they don't stand up
20:05to scrutiny
20:06we see the holes
20:08in these things
20:09anyway
20:10that's a little
20:11aside
20:11there
20:11so after all
20:13of this
20:13Elihu rolls
20:14into
20:15and completes
20:16six chapters
20:17of uninterrupted
20:19monologue
20:20now
20:20Elihu
20:21has got a lot
20:23of truth
20:23in what
20:25he says
20:26there's a lot
20:27of truth
20:27in those six chapters
20:30but as Galatians
20:325-9 says
20:33a little bit
20:34of leaven
20:35leavens
20:36the whole lump
20:37a little bit
20:38of yeast
20:39works through
20:40the whole batch
20:41of the dough
20:41which is why
20:43we need to be
20:44incredibly careful
20:45with what we
20:46listen to
20:47and accept
20:47Jesus' warnings
20:49about the end time
20:50highlight this
20:51and Jesus himself
20:53says
20:54that one of the
20:55greatest signs
20:56preceding his coming
20:58will be the high
20:59level of deception
21:00he said
21:01with many
21:02claiming to speak
21:03for him
21:04and even
21:05claiming to be
21:07him
21:09which is why
21:10everything
21:11including what you
21:12hear from this
21:13pulpit
21:13even tonight
21:14has to be weighed
21:16up against
21:16the word of God
21:17which you're holding
21:18in your hands
21:19nothing can be
21:21taken on face
21:22value
21:23anyway
21:24that's my brief
21:26non-academic
21:27overview
21:27of the previous
21:29chapters
21:29which the others
21:31have done
21:31and it sets us up
21:33for what I want
21:34to cover
21:34from chapter 38
21:36today
21:37my non-technical
21:38bit
21:39so we see
21:40here at the
21:41beginning
21:41of chapter 38
21:44that we suddenly
21:46reach that
21:47day and the hour
21:48when God
21:49bursts in
21:50and says
21:50stop
21:51enough
21:54anywho of course
21:55could have gone
21:56on further
21:57had it been
21:58allowed I suppose
21:59who knows
22:00but when the
22:02day of the hour
22:03finally arrives
22:04and God reveals
22:06himself through
22:07his voice
22:07through the storm
22:09as was there
22:10through the thunder
22:11as was in
22:12Job there
22:13moment that we see
22:14time and time
22:15and time again
22:16happening throughout
22:17the scriptures
22:17when God is
22:19silent
22:19when all seems
22:20hopeless
22:20and people feel
22:22like they've been
22:22abandoned
22:23we can feel
22:23like orphans
22:25you know
22:26in the midst
22:27of the world
22:28and nobody
22:29cares about them
22:30and suddenly
22:31the appointed
22:32time comes
22:33and it nearly
22:35always catches
22:36people unaware
22:38God does
22:39something
22:40often something
22:41which is a great
22:42surprise
22:42to both the church
22:44and outside the church
22:46God holds off
22:48and holds off
22:49and holds off
22:49and then
22:50BAM
22:50the time has come
22:52for him to act
22:53the time has come
22:55for him to speak
22:56he acts either
22:58to bring a long
22:59warned of judgment
23:00such as in Noah's time
23:02or in the time
23:02of Jerusalem's destruction
23:04when the people of God
23:05ignored God
23:06and were taken off
23:07to Babylon
23:08or God acts
23:10for the good
23:10and the salvation
23:11of his people
23:12by saving
23:13or redeeming them
23:14from an enemy
23:15or captivity
23:16but whatever it is
23:18it's always
23:19according to
23:20God's timeline
23:21not ours
23:23and it always
23:25seems to catch
23:2699.9%
23:27of the people
23:28off guard
23:31and that
23:32is how it will be
23:33in all
23:34that's to come
23:35as well
23:36whatever the timing
23:37whatever we think
23:38however much
23:40we feel
23:40that God
23:41is late
23:41in acting
23:43or coming
23:43his timing
23:45is always
23:46perfect
23:46every time
23:47so be warned
23:49dear friends
23:50don't get caught out
23:51we're warned
23:52over and over
23:53in the epistles
23:55remember
23:56it's not about
23:57our circumstances
23:59it's not about
23:59what we're going through
24:01it's not about
24:02what we think
24:03but it's about
24:04him
24:05and who he is
24:06that's the
24:08important part
24:08Isaiah 55
24:10says
24:11for my thoughts
24:12are not your thoughts
24:13neither are your ways
24:15my ways
24:15declares the Lord
24:16as the heavens
24:17are higher than the earth
24:19so are my ways
24:20higher than your ways
24:21and my thoughts
24:22than your thoughts
24:23and 2 Peter 3.9
24:26says
24:26the Lord is not
24:28slack
24:28concerning his promise
24:30as some men
24:31count slackness
24:32but he's long
24:34suffering to us
24:35would
24:35not willing
24:36that any
24:37should perish
24:37but that all
24:39should come
24:40to repentance
24:42and so
24:43it's the time
24:45and God
24:46speaks
24:48and
24:49those first
24:50two verses
24:50in chapter 38
24:52I think
24:53are incredible
24:55verse 1 and 2
24:57chapter 38
24:58then the Lord
24:59answered Job
25:00out of the storm
25:02and he said
25:03who is this
25:05that darkens
25:06my counsel
25:07with words
25:08without knowledge
25:09each of them
25:10thought they were
25:11bringing knowledge
25:12they all thought
25:13they were bringing
25:13words from God
25:15they all thought
25:16they were bringing
25:16the mind of God
25:17into the situation
25:19but it wasn't
25:21and that thunderous
25:23accusation
25:23out of the storm
25:24it wasn't just
25:25aimed
25:26at any single
25:27individual person
25:31it was aimed
25:32at Eliphaz
25:34at Bildad
25:35at Zophar
25:35and even
25:36at Elihu
25:37and perhaps
25:38in a small part
25:39at Job
25:40as well
25:40as we'll see
25:43Eliphaz
25:44Bildad
25:45and Zophar
25:45of course
25:46were by far
25:47the worst
25:48as it were
25:48offenders
25:49and they'd have
25:51to face that
25:51later
25:52but Elihu
25:53although not as
25:54bad as them
25:55in his take
25:56on what Job
25:57had gone through
25:57was going through
25:58he still had
25:59a batch of leaven
26:00in his dough
26:01didn't he
26:01he still had
26:02that batch there
26:03and finally
26:05Job himself
26:06although he never
26:07turned on God
26:08for a second
26:09he never
26:10stopped
26:11believing
26:12in some way
26:14that God
26:15would bring him
26:16through
26:16and that God
26:18was a righteous God
26:19he still needed
26:21to learn
26:22the lesson
26:23that was to follow
26:24a lesson
26:25in God
26:26from God
26:27he had to learn
26:28that lesson
26:29about God
26:31I find it
26:33fascinating
26:33that
26:34God spoke
26:37there
26:38and started
26:39to speak
26:40but at no time
26:42did he explain
26:43himself
26:43to Job
26:44he never
26:47explained
26:47what was behind
26:49all of this
26:50and what had
26:50happened to Job
26:51he never
26:52explained himself
26:54or directly
26:55addressed
26:56any of the
26:56questions
26:57which Job
26:58had
26:59he never
27:00explained
27:00why the other
27:02three were wrong
27:03and he didn't
27:04help them understand
27:05and he didn't
27:07even try to
27:08comfort Job
27:09by saying something
27:10I don't know
27:11like
27:11I'm sorry
27:12you had to go
27:13through all of this
27:14Job
27:14but it was like
27:16this you know
27:17and this is what
27:18happened
27:18and this is why
27:19and so on
27:20he got none of that
27:22none of them
27:23got any of that
27:24instead
27:25God does this
27:27amazing thing
27:28which not only
27:29satisfies Job
27:30but also helps
27:32each of Job's
27:34friends understand
27:35where they went
27:36wrong
27:37and they had
27:38so much to say
27:39not just to each
27:40of them
27:40but also to us
27:42thousands of years
27:43later
27:44because
27:45God's
27:46mission
27:46is to
27:47communicate
27:48to each of us
27:50whether it was
27:50thousands of years
27:52before in Job's
27:53time
27:53or now
27:54God
27:55needs to
27:56communicate
27:57his heart
27:58his will
27:59and his word
28:00to us
28:01he needs to
28:03do it in such
28:04a way
28:04that it's
28:05of help
28:06to everyone
28:07even
28:08thousands
28:09of years
28:10later
28:10so God's
28:12answer wasn't
28:13just for Job
28:14God could have
28:15directly addressed
28:16every detail
28:18he could have
28:19directly answered
28:21every question
28:22he could have
28:23directly covered
28:24every wrong thing
28:26that was said
28:27there
28:27item by item
28:29and it would have
28:30been to use it
28:31in our modern
28:31terminology
28:32a learning process
28:34for everybody
28:35to go through
28:36a teaching
28:37moment
28:38as we say
28:39you know
28:39a teaching experience
28:41and it might have
28:42satisfied them
28:43had he done that
28:45and had he actually
28:46covered these
28:47things
28:48it could have
28:49been a list
28:50that we could have
28:51seen thousands
28:52of years later
28:53and decided
28:54yeah this is good
28:55and let's build
28:56a template
28:57out of this
28:58let's build a
28:59list for future
29:00and whenever this
29:01happens
29:02oh this is what
29:03the answer is
29:04and when this
29:05happens
29:05this is what
29:06the answer is
29:07and we would have
29:08had all of this
29:09right now
29:11but instead
29:12God responded
29:14in a way
29:14which is guaranteed
29:15to be something
29:17we can draw on
29:18whenever the time
29:20is
29:20no matter what
29:21our situation
29:22is
29:23what our problem
29:24is
29:24what fear
29:25or challenge
29:26we're facing
29:28anything at all
29:30we'd be able
29:30to draw on it
29:31how
29:32you see
29:33God focused
29:34on who
29:35he is
29:37and that
29:38also covers
29:39what he's
29:39capable of
29:40and what he's
29:41done
29:42which takes
29:43our attention
29:43on our gaze
29:44and makes us
29:45focus
29:46on the almighty
29:47God
29:48the God
29:49who is above
29:50all of those
29:51things
29:51he alone
29:52is the one
29:53who's our
29:53refuge
29:54he's the one
29:55who's our
29:56fortress
29:56he's the one
29:57who's our
29:58stronghold
29:58our shield
29:59our deliverer
30:00our refuge
30:01he's our
30:02heavenly God
30:03and father
30:04the almighty
30:04God
30:05El Shaddai
30:06he's all of
30:07those things
30:07and we could put
30:08a million other
30:09things that he is
30:10great and mighty
30:11things
30:12among those
30:13but he's the one
30:14we can always
30:15trust
30:16and who's always
30:18there for us
30:19and can never
30:19abandon his
30:20children
30:20and to help us
30:22understand that
30:23he had to help
30:24them and us
30:26understand
30:27what he's capable
30:29of
30:29and what he's
30:30done
30:31we need
30:32to look at him
30:33the answers
30:34we so desperately
30:36seek
30:36those answers
30:37and reasons
30:38that we
30:38debate
30:39week after
30:40week in
30:41bible studies
30:42and so on
30:43and we're
30:43debated by
30:44Job and his
30:45friends
30:45are just
30:46Satan's
30:47distractions
30:47to draw us
30:48away from
30:50what's important
30:50and that is
30:51God
30:53God is the
30:54one who
30:55never needs
30:56to explain
30:57himself
30:58although in
30:59his love
30:59his grace
31:00and his mercy
31:01very often
31:01he will do
31:02he does
31:03in some
31:04situations
31:05but it's
31:06interesting
31:07that we
31:07often hear
31:08Christians
31:09say you
31:09know
31:09oh yeah
31:10I've got a
31:11list of
31:11questions
31:12and when I
31:13get to
31:13heaven
31:13I want to
31:15ask God
31:15this
31:16and I want
31:16to ask
31:16God that
31:17somebody just
31:18last week
31:19was saying
31:19that to me
31:20but the reality
31:21is that when
31:22we get to
31:23heaven and
31:23stand before
31:24the almighty
31:25God
31:26neither Job
31:27nor we
31:28nor anybody
31:29else
31:29will even
31:30think of
31:31asking
31:31because we
31:33will know
31:33we will
31:35fully know
31:361st Corinthians
31:3713 says
31:38for now
31:39we see
31:40us through
31:40a dark
31:41glass
31:41but then
31:42we shall
31:43see face
31:44to face
31:44now I
31:45know in
31:46part
31:46but then
31:47I shall
31:48know fully
31:49even as I
31:50am fully
31:50known
31:51wow
31:51so
31:52hang on
31:54says
31:55at that
31:56time
31:56when I
31:57eventually
31:58get there
31:59when I'm
31:59in front
32:00of God
32:01everything
32:02I will
32:03know fully
32:04even as
32:04I know
32:05and I
32:06know
32:06at the
32:07moment
32:07that God
32:08knows
32:08everything
32:09about me
32:09he even
32:10knows how
32:10many hairs
32:11on my
32:11head there
32:11are
32:12but that's
32:13the level
32:13of detail
32:14that we
32:15will know
32:15as well
32:16isn't that
32:16exciting
32:17we'll know
32:17all of those
32:18things
32:18that's why
32:19God can
32:20say when
32:20we're looking
32:21for answers
32:22in times
32:23of trial
32:24pain and
32:24difficulties
32:25we can
32:26see as it
32:27says in
32:272 Corinthians
32:2712 my
32:29grace is
32:30sufficient for
32:30you for
32:31my strength
32:32or my
32:32power is
32:34made perfect
32:34in weakness
32:35and then
32:37we can
32:37say that
32:39is why
32:39for Christ's
32:40sake I
32:41delight in
32:42weaknesses
32:42in insults
32:44in hardships
32:44in persecutions
32:46in difficulties
32:47for when I
32:49am weak
32:49then I am
32:50strong
32:51who's
32:52weak
32:53I'm weak
32:54how can I
32:55be strong
32:56then
32:56because God
32:58is strong
32:59and I'm
32:59looking at
33:00him
33:01it's God
33:02who is
33:02my strength
33:04so how
33:05then does
33:06God help
33:07Job and
33:07Job's
33:07friends and
33:08all of us
33:08here all
33:09these thousands
33:10of years later
33:11when we need
33:11answers because
33:12God doesn't
33:13explain why
33:14because that
33:16would only
33:16as I said
33:17be helpful
33:18to Job's
33:19limited
33:19questions
33:20there
33:21and that
33:22would restrict
33:23God from
33:24being able
33:24to help
33:25all of us
33:26now
33:27with all
33:28the other
33:29questions we
33:29have
33:30so instead
33:30of answering

33:33he answers
33:35who
33:35so for
33:36four chapters
33:37now
33:38God reveals
33:39who he
33:40is
33:41he works
33:43through
33:43those whole
33:44four chapters
33:45revealing who
33:47he is
33:48revealing
33:49what he's
33:50done
33:50revealing
33:51incredible
33:52things
33:53gloriously
33:54unveiling
33:54this
33:55who
33:56our
33:57almighty
33:57God
33:58and
33:58Lord
33:59is
33:59we
34:00get a
34:01glimpse
34:01of what
34:02he has
34:02done
34:03and is
34:03capable
34:04of
34:04I find
34:06Job
34:06amazing
34:07because you
34:08see some
34:08of the very
34:09secrets of
34:10the universe
34:10coming out
34:11the secrets
34:12of creation
34:13come out
34:14in Job
34:16and things
34:17which only
34:18the creator
34:19himself could
34:20have known
34:20about the
34:21stars and
34:22the planets
34:23and things
34:24like that
34:24and it's
34:25all there
34:26God speaks
34:27to Job
34:28with revelation
34:29and as we
34:30read these
34:31things about
34:32our almighty
34:33God we
34:33can't but
34:34help but
34:35lose sight
34:36of our
34:37problems
34:37problems
34:38because we're
34:39looking at
34:39the greater
34:40picture
34:40we're looking
34:42at who
34:43he is
34:44instead of
34:44everything
34:46and when we
34:46see that
34:47we see what
34:48he's capable
34:49of and
34:50then our
34:51heart
34:52our spirit
34:52within us
34:53is strengthened
34:54it's strengthened
34:55to be able to
34:56face whatever
34:57we're going
34:58through
34:58God doesn't
34:59want us
35:00focused on
35:01him because
35:02he demands
35:03some sort
35:04of I don't
35:05know attention
35:05to feed some
35:06sort of attention
35:07that he needs
35:08and so on
35:09but he wants
35:10us to focus
35:11on him
35:12because he
35:12knows how
35:13we're created
35:14he knows
35:15that the more
35:16we remember
35:17who he is
35:18the more we're
35:19strengthened in
35:20our faith
35:20and in our
35:21spirit
35:21and the harder
35:23it becomes
35:23for Satan
35:24to divert
35:25us or
35:25worry us
35:27just look
35:29in the
35:29Bible
35:30how many
35:31times it
35:31speaks
35:32about
35:33you have
35:34forgotten
35:35me
35:35and
35:36remember
35:37me
35:38you have
35:39failed
35:39to remember
35:40your Lord
35:41your Saviour
35:42just look
35:43how many
35:43times the
35:44prophets
35:45use that
35:45as an
35:46accusation
35:46and a
35:47warning
35:47I remember
35:48as a young
35:49lad I grew
35:50up in a
35:50military family
35:51and we lived
35:52all over the
35:53world
35:53and multiple
35:55military
35:56conflict zones
35:57and we
35:58always accompanied
36:00dad on
36:01all of his
36:01postings
36:02and each
36:02posting was
36:03approximately
36:03three years
36:04unless they
36:05were cut
36:06short
36:06because it
36:07all became
36:07a little
36:08bit too
36:08dangerous
36:09and so on
36:10and then
36:11we'd have
36:11to be
36:11evacuated
36:12a lot of
36:13families would
36:14put their
36:15children into
36:16boarding school
36:16here in the
36:17UK
36:17but my
36:18parents decided
36:19no they
36:20wanted to
36:21keep the
36:21family together
36:23and when
36:24we were out
36:25in those
36:26places we
36:26were evacuated
36:27from Egypt
36:28during the
36:28Suez crisis
36:29I'm giving
36:30my age away
36:31here
36:32Egypt during
36:33the Suez
36:33crisis
36:34we were in
36:35Malaya
36:36during the
36:37uprising in
36:38Malaya
36:38and it was
36:39still Malaya
36:40before it
36:41became Malaysia
36:41during the
36:42uprising
36:42and then in
36:43Aden
36:44known now as
36:45South Yemen
36:46and so on
36:47during the
36:47really worst
36:48of insurgents
36:49right up
36:49until the
36:50time when
36:51all British
36:51were evacuated
36:53after a
36:53hundred and
36:54something years
36:54in the
36:55country
36:56and then
36:56we were in
36:57Cyprus
36:57during
36:58Aoka
36:58and each
36:59time as
37:00children
37:00when we
37:01were in
37:01those places
37:02as toddlers
37:03and growing
37:04up in those
37:05places
37:05as we became
37:07worried
37:07because another
37:09rocket had
37:09landed near the
37:10house
37:10or there was
37:11gunfire
37:12outside
37:13my parents
37:14always reminded
37:16us
37:16they kept
37:17reminding us
37:18how safe
37:18we were
37:19they kept
37:20us focused
37:21on the
37:23soldiers
37:23that were
37:24around
37:24the area
37:26our soldiers
37:27that were
37:27around
37:28keeping us
37:29heavily armed
37:29soldiers
37:30keeping us
37:31safe
37:31so when we
37:32went camping
37:33as scouts
37:33I remember
37:35we had
37:36platoons of
37:37soldiers
37:37surrounding the
37:38camp
37:38keeping us
37:39safe for a
37:40week
37:40and they'd
37:41have to be
37:41on guard
37:42day and
37:42night
37:43with their
37:44guns and
37:44everything
37:45when we
37:46went to
37:46school each
37:47day
37:47we had
37:49armed
37:49guards
37:50on the
37:51bus
37:51with us
37:51but not
37:52just on
37:52the bus
37:52with us
37:53we had
37:54an armed
37:54land rover
37:55behind us
37:56another one
37:56ahead of us
37:57in front of
37:58the bus
37:58yeah
37:59and all
38:01of these
38:01things
38:02whatever we
38:03did
38:03we went
38:03shopping
38:04there were
38:04armed guards
38:05and patrols
38:06everywhere
38:06if we went
38:07to the beach
38:08there were
38:08armed guards
38:09and patrols
38:10and our
38:10parents used
38:11to keep
38:12reminding us
38:13but they
38:13had to keep
38:14reminding us
38:15because there
38:16were always
38:16new things
38:17coming out
38:18where the
38:19enemy was
38:20trying to
38:20get to
38:21us
38:21they would
38:22booby trap
38:23everything
38:24they would
38:25booby trap
38:25milk bottles
38:26milk cartons
38:27they would
38:28booby trap
38:29toys
38:29children's toys
38:31they would
38:32booby trap
38:32just absolutely
38:33anything
38:33by the time
38:34I became
38:34a teenager
38:35I was an
38:36expert at
38:37spotting booby
38:38traps
38:38really
38:39still am a bit
38:40off
38:40yeah
38:40I think so
38:41and anyway
38:42but these
38:43were always
38:43being put
38:43out by
38:44insurgents
38:45but we
38:46had a lot
38:46to remember
38:47and it
38:47had to
38:48be reminded
38:49over and
38:50over and
38:51I've still
38:51got the
38:51pictures of
38:52the posters
38:53that were
38:53put up
38:54day by
38:54day
38:55every day
38:56this is
38:57the latest
38:57warning
38:58this is
38:59the latest
38:59warning
38:59children be
39:01careful of
39:01that
39:01and in
39:02the school
39:02the teachers
39:03would say
39:03right children
39:04don't forget
39:05before you
39:05go out
39:07be careful
39:07of this
39:08and we
39:08had to keep
39:09being reminded
39:09because we
39:10were like
39:11children
39:11and this
39:12is the same
39:13with our
39:13lives as
39:14Christians
39:15really
39:15we have a
39:16mighty God
39:17a heavenly
39:18father
39:18who cares
39:19for us
39:20and keeps
39:21us in his
39:22hand
39:22he keeps
39:22us under
39:23the shadow
39:23of his
39:24wings
39:24as we're
39:25told
39:25and he
39:25encamps
39:26his angels
39:27round about
39:28us
39:28but we need
39:29to keep
39:29being reminded
39:30of his
39:31provision
39:31for us
39:32we need
39:33to keep
39:33reminded
39:34of what
39:34we need
39:35to be
39:35aware of
39:36that the
39:36enemy
39:36is doing
39:37we need
39:39because we're
39:39forgetful
39:40people
39:40which is
39:42why we
39:42need to
39:42keep
39:43being
39:43focused
39:43on who
39:44God
39:45is
39:45who is
39:46this
39:46that's
39:47keeping
39:47us
39:48who is
39:48this
39:49awesome
39:49God
39:50this heavenly
39:51father
39:51that's
39:52watching out
39:53for us
39:53the apostle
39:54Paul
39:54reminds us
39:55that we
39:55need to
39:56be aware
39:56of the
39:57devices
39:57and schemes
39:58of the
39:59enemy
39:59he says
40:00but we've
40:01got to be
40:01careful not
40:02to be drawn
40:02into constantly
40:03being fearful
40:04of the
40:05enemy
40:07because
40:07then we
40:08give him
40:08undue
40:09attention
40:09that he
40:09wants
40:10so whenever
40:11we're down
40:12or afraid
40:13or uncertain
40:15of the future
40:15or have other
40:16fears and
40:17doubts
40:17all we need
40:18to pick up
40:19the bible
40:20read through
40:22passages like
40:23these last
40:24five chapters
40:25of Job
40:26and remind
40:27yourself
40:28and as you
40:28read you'll
40:29feel your
40:30spirit growing
40:31within you
40:31strengthening
40:32within you
40:33read the
40:34book of
40:34Psalms
40:35and see
40:36how David
40:37and the
40:37psalmists
40:38relied on
40:39God
40:40and how
40:40God helped
40:41them over
40:41and over
40:42and over
40:42read passages
40:44such as
40:45one of my
40:46favourites
40:462 Chronicles
40:4720
40:48of how
40:49God helped
40:50Jehoshaphat
40:51in incredible
40:52circumstances
40:53and you
40:55begin to see
40:56these things
40:57and as you
40:57read and you
40:58see how God
40:59answered
40:59prayers
41:00how God
41:01was there
41:02caring for
41:03his people
41:04those who
41:05loved him
41:07we see
41:08and we
41:08begin to
41:09understand
41:09that as we
41:10focus on
41:11him
41:11then we
41:13can understand
41:14him who
41:15does
41:16immeasurably
41:17more than
41:18all we ask
41:19or imagine
41:19according to
41:20his power
41:21that is at
41:22work in us
41:23not focus on
41:24problems
41:25or how
41:26helpless
41:26we are
41:27and I
41:28want to
41:28finish
41:29with
41:30Job
