00:00Hi there and welcome to the Met Office forecast for the upcoming weekend.
00:05As low pressure only slowly moves away to the east, we're going to see a plunge of northerly winds,
00:11cold winds for any time of year they'll be arriving.
00:14And actually, Saturday, Sunday could be the coldest couple of days of the season so far,
00:20but that's not saying much, of course.
00:22It's nothing particularly unusual for the time of year to have northerly winds.
00:26They're just going to feel quite different to the weather we've experienced lately.
00:31And we start off Saturday with a chill in the air, some places dipping into the mid to low single figures.
00:38And it's going to feel cold in the wind all day, that wind particularly strong for the north of Scotland
00:42and the North Sea coast near Galeforce for some exposed spots.
00:48The wind will also bring plenty of showers for the north and the west in particular,
00:52Northern Ireland, Northern Scotland, Wales and the south-west most prone to those showers.
00:57And because of the cold air in place, those showers will be falling as snow over upland parts of Northern Scotland,
01:04not likely to cause considerable impacts and not particularly unusual for the time of year.
01:10In between the showers, there will be some brighter weather and a stark contrast to last Saturday
01:15when we had so much anti-cyclonic gloom.
01:18Brighter skies are expected, so that's one positive to be said for this weekend's weather.
01:24Plenty of sunshine away from those downpours.
01:26The wind, though, will make it feel cold.
01:28These are the temperatures that the thermometers will read on Saturday afternoon,
01:32but when you take into account the wind chill, this is what it will feel like.
01:36More like a typical December day than a typical October day.
01:40Low pressure continuing to sit to the east on Saturday night into Sunday.
01:45High pressure out to the west, so we've got this northerly wind continuing,
01:49but then this next low topples in from the north-west.
01:52So, actually, Sunday morning's the best time for Sunday for many places.
01:56It's a bright start.
01:57Plenty of sunshine for central and eastern areas,
02:00and we'll keep the sunshine in the east of England, eastern Scotland, into the afternoon.
02:04But cloudier skies elsewhere.
02:05Some showers first thing, followed by more persistent rain arriving around lunchtime
02:10into northern Ireland, Scotland, and western fringes of England and Wales.
02:14Again, a few flakes of snow over the tops of the Scottish mountains,
02:18but otherwise it's just going to turn increasingly soggy.
02:21It's going to continue to feel cold on Sunday.
02:24Again, many places not seeing temperatures reach the double figures,
02:28although those temperatures will begin to climb
02:29as this system moves in across north-western parts of the country.
02:34And that marks the transition into next week to more changeable weather
02:38with the wettest conditions always likely towards the north-west.
02:42Bye-bye.
