00:00What he does offer us is personal peace with God.
00:03And the personal peace with God involves our sins being forgiven,
00:07having the hope of eternal life, knowledge of God.
00:10If you have that peace,
00:13even if you walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
00:16you can fear no evil.
00:20Because you know that you're on the victory side.
00:23You can have peace and assurance.
00:25Because we're on the victory side and we have a glorious future
00:28in the resurrection of the dead.
00:31And when Jesus was born and he was taken by Joseph and Miriam into the temple,
00:37an aged priest called Simeon, Shimon,
00:42greeted him in Luke chapter 2 with these words.
00:46Lord, you are now letting your servant depart in peace according to your word.
00:50For my eyes have seen your salvation,
00:52which you have prepared before the face of all peoples,
00:55is a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles and glory of your people Israel.
01:01Lord, you're now letting your servant depart in peace.
01:03He'd been told he wouldn't die until he'd seen the Lord's Messiah.
01:07Saying, now you depart in peace,
01:09because my eyes have seen your salvation.
01:12If you've seen salvation in Yeshua, the Messiah,
01:15you can have peace in this life.
01:18And when you depart from this life,
01:19you can know you have peace with God,
01:21because you're going to be with God forever in the kingdom of God.
01:25So, there is an offer of peace.
01:27And that's a wonderful offer,
01:29which every person who receives Jesus can receive.
01:32But you have to receive him.
01:36Simeon went on to say to Mary,
01:38Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel,
01:41for a sign which will be spoken against.
01:44Yes, the sword will pierce through your own soul also,
01:47and the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.
01:51It's an interesting statement.
01:52He has revelation here by the Holy Spirit,
01:55something about the ministry of Jesus.
01:56He's going to cause about the rise and fall of many in Israel.
02:01The rise of those who be redeemed,
02:03who be taken out of their sins into a relationship with God.
02:05In that relationship with God,
02:07they can be seated with God in heavenly places,
02:09with Jesus Christ, in new life.
02:12The fall of those who reject and who disbelieve
02:16and who will fall away from him.
02:18And in the last day, we'll hear him say,
02:20Depart from me, ye cursed,
02:21into the everlasting fire,
02:22prepared for the devil and his angels.
02:24We don't want to be on the fall side,
02:26we want to be on the rise side.
02:29And he says there'll be a sign which will be spoken against.
02:32A sign in Hebrew is a miracle.
02:35Hebrew word, ot.
02:36In fact, Mary is told that she's going to be given,
02:38sorry, Isaiah tells Ahaz
02:40that the virgin is going to bring a sign
02:43that the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son.
02:47And the word sign is the word ot,
02:48which means a miracle, a sign of God.
02:50A sign which only God can do.
02:52And Jesus did signs and miracles which only God could do.
02:56He healed the sick, he raised the dead.
02:57He did all manner of signs which were visible,
03:00which were visible signs that he really is God with us, Emmanuel.
03:04And many people received him and received what he was doing,
03:07received his message
03:10and glorified God for what they had seen.
03:12And others criticized him,
03:14said you shouldn't do that on the Sabbath,
03:15that's breaking the law.
03:17Had all kinds of objections
03:18and attacked him for actually doing these miracles.
03:22And you see that it's a sign which will be spoken against,
03:25that many who spoke against him
03:26in the signs and the wonders which he did.
03:29Again, that means that Jesus brought division.
03:32He brought division into the monks, the Jewish people.
03:35There would be those who'd be for him,
03:36those who'd be against him.
03:37And there were many who were for him.
03:40Sometimes the church gives the idea
03:41that the Jews rejected Jesus.
03:42That's not the case at all.
03:44It says the common people heard him gladly.
03:47Multitudes chanted to him,
03:49Hosanna in the highest,
03:50when he rode into Jerusalem,
03:51believed in him.
03:53Multitudes believed in him
03:54after the gospel began to be preached in Jerusalem.
03:57But many also disbelieved.
03:59Same thing happens in every situation.
04:02It becomes a sign that to be spoken against.
04:05It says a sword will pierce through your own soul also.
04:11Speaking here particularly to Mary,
04:13to Miriam,
04:14that she was going to suffer.
04:16Suffer through bearing this son.
04:18Suffer the reproach
04:19that perhaps she hadn't been totally honest,
04:22but she knew that's how he was conceived.
04:24Maybe she suffered that reproach through her life.
04:27There's implication of it in John's gospel
04:29that they accused Jesus of being illegitimate.
04:34Wasn't the case,
04:35but that would be part of the cost.
04:37But suffered as she saw him hanging on the cross.
04:40And as a mother,
04:41she must have felt,
04:42seeing her son suffering that agonizing death
04:45and having the sin of the world placed upon him.
04:48And you can imagine the pain
04:50which she felt at that time.
04:52And yet she believed
04:53and she came to faith in him.
04:55And we read how in the book of Acts
04:56she was there amongst the believers
04:58joining together,
05:00waiting for the day of Pentecost
05:02as a believer in Jesus the Messiah.
05:04And she was saved through her faith in Jesus.
05:07Never did she even remotely suggest
05:10that anyone should pray to her
05:12as the Queen of Heaven or the Mediator.
05:15She was the one who was faithful
05:17to bring Yeshua into the world.
05:19And yet she would suffer through that.
05:21The sword would pierce through your own soul.
05:24And the thoughts and hearts,
05:26thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.
05:28So as Jesus came,
05:29you're going to reveal what's in people's hearts.
05:32And even as we preach the gospel to people,
05:34it shows what's in their hearts.
05:36You can sometimes see the hardness and the rejection.
05:39And the people who are tender
05:40and who are open and willing to listen.
05:42If you're willing to listen,
05:44then God's going to bring
05:44the message of truth and love into your heart
05:47and change you into the person God wants you to be
05:49and give you a new life.
05:51And it's wonderful when we can come to faith in Jesus
05:53and receive him,
05:55receive the light of the world into our lives.
05:58And he reveals either the darkness or the light.
06:02And as we come to the light,
06:04so the light comes into our lives.
06:07You can think of the two thieves on the cross,
06:09the one who mocked and rebuked him,
06:12and the other who said,
06:13Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.
06:16And the one who said,
06:17Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom
06:19was welcomed into the kingdom of God,
06:22welcomed himself to the light,
06:23even by that act of faith.
06:26And so we can have peace through the blood of the cross.
06:29It says in Colossians,
06:32please the Father that in him all fullness should dwell,
06:34by him to reconcile all things to himself,
06:37by him whether things on earth or things in heaven,
06:39having made peace through the blood of the cross.
06:42And you who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works,
06:46yet now he is reconciled in the body of his flesh through death
06:50to present you holy and blameless and above reproach in his sight.
06:57The message is about reconciliation.
06:59It's about reconciliation first of all with God.
07:02When we have the reconciliation with God,
07:04we can have then the reconciliation on the human level.
07:07The world looks for the reconciliation on the human level
07:10without the reconciliation to God.
07:12But if it's without the reconciliation to God,
07:14it doesn't work on the human level either.
07:18It's only through faith in Jesus.
07:20We just sung that hymn,
07:23Herald Angels Sing,
07:24which says,
07:25Peace on earth and mercy wild,
07:27God and sinners reconciled.
07:29If you don't have God and sinners reconciled,
07:32you won't have peace on earth.
07:33If you do have God and sinners reconciled,
07:35you have peace with God through Jesus Christ.
07:412 Corinthians chapter 5,
07:43Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
07:46Old things have passed away.
07:47Behold, all things have become new.
07:49Now all things are of God,
07:50who has reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ.
07:53He has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
07:56That is, that God was in Christ,
07:58reconciling the world to himself,
07:59not imputing their trespasses to them,
08:02committed to us the word of reconciliation.
08:05Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ.
08:08As though God were pleading through us,
08:10we implore you,
08:11on Christ's behalf,
08:12be reconciled to God.
08:14We made him, who knew no sin,
08:16to be sin for us,
08:17that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
08:21If you want to know the peace of God,
08:22that's how you do it,
08:23through faith in Jesus.
08:25He made him, who knew no sin,
08:27to be sin,
08:28the sin offering for us,
08:29that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
08:33Isaiah 53 says,
08:35the chastisement of our peace was upon him.
08:37For we, like sheep, have gone astray,
08:39we've turned everyone to his own way.
08:41The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
08:44And that's how we can find peace with God.
08:47That's what was missing in Charles' message.
08:49I know he only had 10 minutes to give it,
08:51and he couldn't give everything which I've said here.
08:53But he didn't actually even intimate
08:56that we need to make that step of faith.
08:58We need to receive him into our lives
09:01in order to receive that salvation.
09:04And to those who receive him,
09:05he gives the right to become the children of God.
09:08To those who believe in his name,
09:10who are born,
09:11not of the blood,
09:12nor of the will of the flesh,
09:13nor of the will of man,
09:14but of God.
09:16And so,
09:17as we see the world moving into the great darkness
09:20that is prophesied for the last days,
09:23we can receive the light of the world
09:24into our lives through faith in Jesus.
09:27And Jesus says,
09:28these things I have spoken to you,
09:29that in me you may have peace.
09:32In the world you will have tribulation,
09:33but be of good cheer.
09:35I've overcome the world.
09:37Praise the Lord.
09:37We have peace through the blood of the cross.
09:40Let's just have a word of prayer,
09:41and then we're going to sing a song,
09:42and then we're going to get on
09:43to the contemporary prophetic stuff.
09:47So, Lord, we do thank you
09:48that you are the one who gives us peace.
09:50We thank you for the blood of the cross.
09:51We thank you that you fulfilled
09:52all of these things,
09:53that you were so much more
09:55than the little baby in the manger.
09:58You were son of God,
10:00becoming man,
10:01to dwell amongst us,
10:02and to redeem us from the power of sin,
10:05to give us new life through faith in Jesus.
10:07We pray that each one of us here
10:08may receive that life,
10:09and know that we are your children of God,
10:12through faith in Yeshua the Messiah,
10:14and have peace with God.
10:15In Jesus' name.
10:17Amen.
10:19Amen.
10:19Let's sing Jesus' name above all names,
10:23and we'll have a look at some of the things
10:26happening in the world today.
