00:00So, we're going to look at some of the events to do with the life of King David.
00:05Got it up there?
00:07And I'm going to address this issue of encouragement and discouragement.
00:12It's a verse in chapter, in 1 Samuel chapter 30 verse 6,
00:18a time when David had actually lost everything.
00:20It said that David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him,
00:24because the soul of all the people was grieved for every man,
00:27for his sons and his daughters, but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
00:33We'll look a bit at that background to that story later on.
00:36The first one I'll look at today is David encouraged himself, strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
00:43If you look through the life of David, you find that he had a lot of ups and downs.
00:47Some of his finest hours were way beyond anything that you or I have ever attempted or achieved in the
00:54spiritual realm.
00:56Some of his worst hours were probably way below anything, hopefully, that you or I have done in the flesh.
01:05And sometimes we had it difficult to explain how the Bible contains stories of the heroes of faith,
01:11which contain things which they do so well, and also things which they do so badly.
01:17I guess the reason is because the Bible is actually honest.
01:19It tells us how it is.
01:21It tells us not only how God deals with humans, but how humans deal with God.
01:26And it tells us the good and the bad.
01:28And the Bible characters are real people like you and me, not superheroes, not flawless.
01:34And all the things which we learn about them, we can learn something for our own lives.
01:38And all the things that we learn about them, we can learn something for our own lives.
