00:05The Giants signing linebacker Tremaine Edmonds means that they think that he's the key to
00:11unlocking new defensive coordinator Denard Wilson's defense. They cut Bobby O'Karrick
00:16and then they went ahead and signed Edmonds to a three-year $36 million deal. Wilson needed or
00:22needs a guy on that second level that can both attack the run and also that he can drop and
00:29play in the coverage. So the Giants are getting a guy with over 100 tackles in all eight of his
00:35NFL
00:35seasons and he stayed around that 110 mark all three years in Chicago. On top of that they're
00:42also getting a guy that has 14 career interceptions, nine in three years with the Bears and he had four
00:49in 2025. So I got four plays for you guys where I'm gonna break down and show you exactly what
00:55the
00:55Giants are getting for 36 mil in this Blue Rush free agent profile.
01:02Welcome to the Giants. These first two plays you're going to see. I picked these because it is the same
01:08run play or read option that the commanders are running and you see the way he stuffs and makes
01:14a play on both of the different ways that they run this read option. He's got to see the commanders
01:20not once anymore. He's got to see them twice in a year. So the fact that he's made plays on
01:28the same
01:28play that the commanders ran already that's got to be something that you're excited for as a Giants fan
01:35or Denard Wilson new Giants defensive coordinator because this kid makes plays. Let's watch it then
01:42we go back. See him here knifes it gets in and he gets in on the tackle. May not have
01:47had the tackle
01:48solo. It may not have been a solo tackle for him but just let's break this down man because this
01:54is a guy
01:54that understands and knows how to read his keys. Again pretty much you'll see on the next play it's
02:01pretty somewhat of the same formation but same play. We've got the tight end motion across bumps
02:08over. Now his eyes go straight to this center who is now trying to have a down block and seal
02:15this nose tackle here and what that does is that creates a space here. Now you see the double team
02:22on the back side between the guard and the tackle. This guard and tackle this guard has to double so
02:29he
02:29secures this this uh this tackle this defensive tackle for this offensive tackle and then this guard
02:38doubles up doubles up to go to this will to this mic here this double team here to pin and
02:44now he's
02:45supposed to go up to Tremaine Edmonds here. Edmonds sees this space not a lot of linebackers can shoot
02:53get in between that cause ruckus blow it up and he still is able to take on those two guys
03:01slip
03:02through knife through and get in and make a play on this football. Lastly before we go on to the
03:08next
03:08play because I want you to see how similar this looks so now you see the double you see him
03:14reading
03:14you see Jaden Daniels on this read option you read the the end man this is your pitch man or
03:20this is
03:21the guy that that that determines whether you're going to hand that football off or you're going
03:25to if you're going to hand it off or if you're going to pull it he decides he's playing too
03:30much
03:30upfield so he hands it off you've got this tight end on the slam block going back side to seal
03:38this
03:38off shoots the gap gets inside makes the play
03:45all right pretty much same formation isk there but it same play the same formation they kind of
03:54mix it up a little bit again it's all about window dressing from time to time in the NFL
03:59but they're running the same read option play now instead of making the play on the running back
04:05watch how he runs down Jaden Daniels and puts his speed on tape
04:12bumps over sees the motion
04:17same thing you see you see I mean pretty much they're in a different front so they're not
04:23blocking down on these D tackles like they did the last time this tackle is he's kind of coming
04:29over to help out just a little bit but here's all right here's where we are with this so Jaden
04:35Daniels is reading this end again if this end crashes down then he's going to pull it if the
04:42end kind of plays up upfield like he did on the last one he's going to hand this football off
04:48you've got this tight end coming back like he did to the play before you got him coming back to
04:54slam
04:55that or or we you can ghost it as well you know there's different things you can do with this
05:00but
05:00for here Jaden Daniels decides that this end is crashing down he's got a lead blocker out there
05:08to the outside they're going to leave this guy unblocked so this tight end can wrap around and
05:15block the first color he sees you see any color I need you to get a body on that and
05:21let Jaden Daniels
05:22be the athlete he is to run you know to use all this space but watch Tremaine Edmonds here
05:29plugs this gap shows in the gap works well with this defensive end the defensive end slams down
05:37now he knows he has to replace over the top because he's the guy now that has to box this
05:43box this meaning box it to force Jaden Daniels back inside if he wanted to spill it then he would
05:50spill
05:50he would hit this tight end to force the ball to go outside but watch the way he goes untouched
05:57here
05:57tight ends eyes are looking for the second and third the third level here but watch the speed
06:06to haunt that down so again same play that same read option and you see him get involved
06:13in both plays that's high football IQ and that means he's still got some juice left in the tape
06:20to be able to run and use the sideline as his friend but to able to run a Jaden Daniels
06:27down
06:27and make that tackle on the other side of the field this is a TFL he's a this is a
06:33guy that's playing on
06:34the other side of the line of scrimmage and this is exactly what the Giants defense and new defensive
06:39coordinator Denard Wilson needs from his second level and his linebacker all right talk about
06:47again playing on the other side or the opposite side of the line of scrimmage sorry Giants I hate
06:52to do this to you but hey this is your teammate now let's watch this play real quick here he
06:58is
06:59it looks ready in the stands shoot the gap make a play in the backfield look at that look at
07:05that if
07:05you're a linebacker I need you to reshare this I need you to repost reshare because this is up this
07:11is elite linebacker play right here and this is exactly what the Giants want and need in this new
07:17defense so we'll watch it here you see the double team block between Illuminor and Van Roten they get
07:23the double Van Roten's job is to get a hand in here and to help out as much as he
07:29can until Illuminor
07:30now takes over this defensive tackle once he feels that then now it's on Van Roten to get up to
07:38that
07:38second level and get a body on Edmonds same thing on this back side I can't see who the center
07:44is here
07:45you've got the double team here and then he's once he feels like uh Runyon has his man clean on
07:53the
07:53one-on-one now this center is going to go up to the second level and look for work but
07:59look at his eyes
08:00the entire time sees it diagnose it and shoots it shoots the gap this is exactly what you want to
08:08see stays nice and skinny trims what we call the fat comes right off of Van uh not Van Roten
08:14comes
08:14right off of uh Runyon's butt gets skinny and makes the play into the backfield if you're not fast
08:24if you don't have explosion or burst then Roten's going to be able to come off of that and at
08:30least
08:30affect you enough for this stretch play to reach to the outside but no no no no no no no
08:36no
08:38you see him navigate through the window you see this little gap right here that opened up
08:44in this uh and this this backside a gap you see it open up you see him able to get
08:50skinny
08:51turn his back to the block it's receivers when we get off the line of scrimmage we're taught to do
08:56that as well you turn your back so they can't get into your chest now through violence gets himself
09:03on the other side of the line of scrimmage makes a play another tfl and you can tell he got
09:10up crunk
09:10after that one but again playing on the other side of the football not reacting but creating
09:20the chaos bringing the havoc that's what you want to see in this Giants defense in 2026
09:29all right last but not least because you gotta show the coverage skills as well this dude four
09:34interceptions on the year did a really good job may not have been like a man-to-man coverage guy
09:39but he definitely understands his assignment and where his eyes need to be when they drop him
09:45and zone coverage so let's watch this play here big play in this bears bangles game
09:54reading eyes on quarterback jumps it get up big dog get up uh it stops there so i'm just gonna
10:02go
10:02ahead and uh go ahead and bring it back here um let's see they're in some sort of it looks
10:08like some
10:08sort of cover two shells some sort of cover four uh here on the goal line not really worried about
10:14the cover uh the coverage on the back end let's watch him because he's got this whole you know hook
10:20this whole hook zone here and it looks like he's somewhat like i don't want to say man to man
10:26on the
10:26back but let's if this if t higgins ran the slant he obviously would be there to help out but
10:32with this
10:32bat coming out with this free release obviously his eyes are going to go from one to two because
10:38this is the number two receiver on this side now he's the number two threat so let's just watch his
10:43eyes the entire time eyes are on the back quarterbacks looking back side pause it again
10:50understands they're doubling up top so he doesn't really have to worry about number one this receiver
10:57coming in unless he got some sort of in in call from the safety or corner to then where he
11:02you know
11:02his eyes will get back to that receiver to try and help out now he's playing or he's his vision
11:10goes
11:10from or through the running back to the quarterback see his eyes here right when this quarterback puts his
11:22see this ball being thrown he's already got this his plant leg he's already got his right foot into
11:28the ground and he is driving on this football that's being able to read that this is elite this is
11:34elite
11:34vision here because i want y'all to see this you're reading through the running back the pressure
11:42and now understanding the quarterback has to get this football out of his hands and he's throwing off of
11:47his back foot he's got about one two three yards of space here to jump this football to jump this
11:55route does it and the most impressive part is this hands catch from a linebacker how many times have we
12:07seen a linebacker even a db for for for all i know how many times have we seen these guys
12:12jump these routes
12:13and then just knock the ball down or drop or drop it to where it's incomplete and then now you
12:19get a
12:19third down instead of it being an interception drives through this football catches it with his hands
12:26gets up and tries to get busy with it this guy is going to come in and he's going to
12:33be that green dot
12:34linebacker that's going to work well with a michael mcfadden and possibly a sunny styles bringing in as much
12:41linebackers that are dual threat linebackers linebackers that can play the run and can also
12:48drop in coverage and have the eye discipline and the football iq to help the back end with all the
12:55underneath and intermediate routes and then when you've got that opportunity to jump a route and
13:01make a play on the football you come up big with it giants defense needs turnovers next year
13:06and shermaine edmonds is a guy that can come in and help with that on day one
13:13exactly what a denard wilson defense needs a dual threat linebacker he's a guy that can go sideline
13:22to sideline and stop the run on first and second down and then you can drop him in coverage to
13:28read
13:28a quarterback's eyes and jump a route across the middle he's also athletic and versatile enough to
13:35where he can spy a quarterback like a jayden daniels as you saw earlier or jalen hurts and run that
13:42quarterback down which is what the giants are going to need against the nfc east's quarterbacks he's
13:48what this defense needs going into year one of this hardball rebuild bringing edmunds still means that
13:55ohio state linebacker sunny styles is also still in play with the fifth pick in the draft as well
14:02you're going to need more the giants need more versatility in their linebackers because they
14:07don't have that many on their roster right now but as of now the edmunds signings means they got
14:13their green dot linebacker to anchor that second level
