00:00The Giants' big three of pass rushers, Kayvon Thibodeau, Brian Burns, and Abdul Carter.
00:09They've lived up to the hype so far in training camp practices and the preseason.
00:13So, here are three plays from their preseason win over the Jets by their big three.
00:18That's putting the entire league on notice.
00:21All right, first play, Kayvon Thibodeau gets a hurry on Justin Fields.
00:24Now, this dude backed up all his talk from the joint practices,
00:28and he put some good things on tape this game.
00:30It all started with this quick pressure.
00:33You can see Brian Burns, who's usually on the edge here, lined up over top of the slot.
00:37He's not blitzing.
00:38He's not coming off that edge.
00:40He is in coverage.
00:41No Dexter Lawrence this game, and Abdul Carter wasn't in with the ones just yet.
00:46Kayvon, it's all on you, big dog.
00:48Here we go.
00:49Let's start this play up.
00:50The Giants are only rushing four here.
00:53Kayvon has to win his one-on-one to get pressure, and that's exactly what he does.
00:58Causing a bad throw by Justin Fields.
01:01Let's take you guys to the tight, break it down a little bit more.
01:04All right, now we can really see this one-on-one.
01:07Kayvon Thibodeau is a guy that everyone's talking about this season
01:11because obviously the Giants drafted Abdul Carter third overall.
01:15But this dude has been putting some good stuff on tape,
01:18not only throughout the training camp practices, but in this game alone.
01:21Let's break it down even more for you guys to start this thing up.
01:24You can see him set up this right tackle with his speed, put his foot into the ground,
01:28boom, club white.
01:29You're on the quarterback just like that.
01:31Justin Fields has nowhere to go with the football because Kayvon Thibodeau
01:35and that quick pressure put pressure on Justin Fields to get the ball out of his hands fast,
01:41and that's with rushing four.
01:43You have four rushers, which means you're dropping seven into coverage.
01:49Someone has to win their one-on-one, and that's exactly what Kayvon did to cause the bad throw.
01:54This next one, Brian Burns comes off the edge for a smooth TFL or tackle for loss.
02:00Now, I've talked about how the Giants' defense has to be better against the run this season.
02:0520-24, they were gashed for 19 runs over 20 yards or more.
02:10That was second most in the league.
02:12If they can't stop the run this season, the season is over.
02:16All right, let's start the play.
02:18You see Burns here in the red cleats, fire red cleats here.
02:21What I love about him, gets down, gets set, sees the tight end motion over.
02:27You see him reduce his split, and that allows him to get skinny and beat the tackle to the spot.
02:33Beats him with speed, and he's able to cut off that running back
02:38and chase that play down from the backside.
02:41All right, let's start from the beginning again for this play.
02:44See the Jets come out.
02:45Brian Burns, you see him in this technique right here.
02:47Gets down.
02:48Now, this is great play recognition because he understands he needs to win to the inside.
02:53Pause it here.
02:54Stop.
02:56I'll run it back a little bit.
02:57We're going to run this back a little bit.
02:58I want you guys to watch Abdul Carter up here in the red.
03:03Watch him this play because the Giants' defense,
03:06I've talked about how they were getting gashed throughout last season.
03:09Abdul Carter sets the edge here.
03:11This play cannot, but look at all that green grass to the outside.
03:16This Brees Hall cannot get to the outside because Abdul Carter sets the edge.
03:22Run it back just a little bit more, and I want to highlight one more player on this Giants' defense.
03:26Stop it there.
03:27Also, look here.
03:29Elijah Chapman does a great job beating the tackle and getting to the inside as well to set pressure.
03:37This leakage makes Brees Hall want to take this ball up the middle.
03:41Now, you can see that could be, they could get gashed here.
03:45There's a little, there's green grass here.
03:48There's green grass there.
03:50But Brian Burns understands the assignment.
03:53Beats the tight end to the inside.
03:56Nice to play.
03:57Runs it down from the back.
03:59And now the Giants have a tackle for a loss.
04:01This is something they have to continue to do throughout the course of the year.
04:05All right, last but not least, because I know when we're talking about Abdul Carter and this Jets preseason game,
04:11everybody's talking about his welcome to the NFL moment when he got set on his ass or put on his ass.
04:17Well, on this one right here, I got to give a young man some props because he set the edge.
04:21Now, I'm going to sound like a broken record because I keep talking about how the Giants are just emphasizing stopping the run this season.
04:30But not to kick a dead horse or anything, they gave up five runs of 40 yards or more last season.
04:37That was tied for most in the NFL.
04:39But a lot of those runs were because the ball carrier was able to hit the perimeter, like I mentioned in the last play.
04:46The edge wasn't set.
04:48Abdul Carter understood the assignment on this play.
04:51Let's check it out.
04:53The Jets are trying to run some sort of inside zone off of the read option.
04:57And you see his technique right here or his alignment.
04:59He's in a wide nine.
05:01Sets the edge with force, with violence.
05:05And again, that allows the players from the inside to swarm to the ball and make a play in the backfield.
05:12Let's check it out on the tight because you're going to love it even more and what this rookie is able to put on tape.
05:17All right, let's bring you guys down to the trenches.
05:20Love the tight.
05:21Watch the big man go at it.
05:23All right, you don't even see Abdul Carter lined up on the screen just now.
05:26When we're talking about these inside runs off of RPOs, if they kick out and they get enough space in these zones, you might as well call it a touchdown.
05:36And I'm going to highlight Kayvon on the back side as well because him showing face or him getting to the quarterback is what made Justin Fields hand the ball off.
05:46Let's check it out right here.
05:48All right, I'm going to run that.
05:50You still can't see Abdul Carter.
05:51He's in that wide technique.
05:53Get ready to pause it.
05:55Now, boom, violence.
05:58That's how you take on a block in the NFL.
06:01This is not the Big Ten no more.
06:03Big boy Abdul Carter put his big boy pads on and he makes a play against a pulling guard.
06:08This is a guard that's pulling.
06:10And him setting the edge and setting the perimeter with a violence now cuts the field off even more.
06:18You see Brees Hall in terms of where his hips are turned.
06:22He's thinking about bouncing this thing to the outside.
06:26But because, one, Abdul Carter sets the edge, sets the perimeter.
06:31Two, this defensive tackle on the inside beats this guard here on the down block.
06:37Now you've got leakage.
06:38You've got color filling the hole.
06:41And that's making Brees Hall want to cut this thing back in into this tight window here.
06:47But there's no space here.
06:49Brees Hall is thinking he's got to make something out of nothing here because of these two defenders right here.
06:54But I want to give another shout out on this play because it's Kayvon Thibodeau.
06:58The way he's playing this read option.
07:01Usually, if a defensive end comes hard down the line, quarterback pulls it.
07:07And Justin Fields had a couple of successful runs against the Giants defense on these RPOs during the joint practices.
07:15But you see the way that Kayvon is able to play both the run and the quarterback.
07:21DYJ, doing your job.
07:23Or like the Giants like to say, one of 11.
07:26You're one of 11 guys on that football field at the time.
07:30You have to do your job.
07:32Now back to Abdul Carter because I know this isn't going to show up on the stat sheet because I don't think they gave him the tackle.
07:39But it's definitely going to get this man some love in the film room.
07:43Look, week one, the Giants head down to the nation's capital to take on the commanders who had the fourth best rushing attack in the NFL last season.
07:52On top of that, we all know Jaden Daniels played his way into being a top 10 quarterback in this league.
07:59Stop the run and contain Jaden Daniels.
08:03And the Giants have put themselves in position to win that game.
08:06It's easier said than done.
08:08But the big three is putting some stuff on tape that shows me that they're ready for that smoke.
