00:00But, boy, I thought it was interesting to hear his comments about David Montgomery.
00:05I think a lot of people around here, most people around here,
00:08are pretty excited about it and can see, at the very least,
00:12how this makes sense to what they want to do.
00:14But this was him talking about David Montgomery.
00:17And, Clint, I can't help, and when you listen to this,
00:19it clearly shows what their type is and what they're looking for.
00:25I would say David's been a very productive player since he's been in this league.
00:29I'd say his leadership, his toughness, his consistency.
00:32I mean, everything that we had on David, even coming out,
00:35I mean, this guy was one of the, I would say, toughest, I mean,
00:39elite makeup players that Iowa State has ever had.
00:42And you saw his impact that he made for Chicago and then the Lions program as well.
00:47So, again, discussions are always very fluid.
00:50We're always looking at opportunities, at players that may or may not be available.
00:54So we feel David is a player.
00:56That will be a good fit in our, not only our offense, but in our building.
01:00And, you know, his leadership and toughness is something that we feel can be an asset
01:04to our team and our program.
01:08Well, you can tell, boy, the things that get them going.
01:11What did he say?
01:11I saw you counting it, Tyler.
01:13He said leadership, leadership, good fit with the team and the building,
01:18consistency, tough, toughness.
01:20They get to start describing, you know how people describe, how can I say it, slot receivers,
01:28former kid of a coach, heady player.
01:32Sneaky fast.
01:34Always know where he's supposed to be.
01:35High motor.
01:36High motor, runs the right route.
01:38They got to deal with what they like.
01:42What do you say?
01:42Consistency, toughness.
01:44He said, when you hear elite, like, right, I hear Clint say, he's got an elite arm.
01:49He's got, he's got, he's got, he's got, he's got, he's got elite movement, his legs.
01:55He's got elite pocket presence.
01:57No, he's got an elite makeup.
01:59Makeup.
02:00Yeah.
02:00Maybe that's what I'm talking about.
02:02But I will say this, Clint, it is clear that they have a type.
02:05And that has helped build this culture in a major way.
02:10And you can see why a David Montgomery is somebody that they just fall in love with.
02:15Because he seems to fit with what their type is.
02:18Yeah.
02:18Look, I'm a, I'm a culture chemistry guy.
02:21And I'll be honest with you.
02:22I am culture chemistry fatigued with the Texans.
02:25To be completely honest with you at this point.
02:28I am a, I am a huge believer in it.
02:31And I don't think you can win without it.
02:32Not consistently anyway.
02:34And so I am, I am, I admire and respect the job that, that Nick and D'Amico have done.
02:40But at this point in time, I'm just, I'm just over leading with that every single step of the way.
02:47And it, it, you know, I'm typically, I typically do side with the guys that at this point are like,
02:54Hey man, all right, let's go get a couple of dogs that may be, maybe outside the box a little
02:59bit
02:59from what you typically get that, that, that had the potential to put you over the top.
03:03Right.
03:04I mean, that one or two year deal.
03:06Let's get them in here.
03:07If you don't like them, you can cut them, get them the hell out of here, but let's get them
03:09in here and see if they can make a difference.
03:11Um, so I typically would be fatigued as hell.
03:14And I'm like, okay, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm over it.
03:17Right.
03:17This is just, it's kind of like people always talk about me when they're talking about, you know, quarterbacks and
03:22players at the university of Arkansas.
03:23You're the toughest SOB ever been around.
03:24I'm like, well, really at this point, I mean, that's a little bit of an insult to be honest with
03:27you.
03:28What you're telling me, I, I wasn't, I wasn't very talented, but boy, I was tough as hell.
03:31I'd get up every time.
03:32Right.
03:32Like that's typically where I would be.
03:35I am.
03:36I am a okay with this from, from Nick Casario in the instance that we're talking about David Montgomery.
03:44I've said it before.
03:44I think the biggest concern on this offense bigger than any position.
03:49I think the biggest concern on this offense is you don't have any leadership whatsoever.
03:54Yeah.
03:55And look, that's not a, have some of that Joe mixing in.
03:58Does he have some of that in him?
03:59I'm talking, I'm talking move the needle.
04:02Step on your throat, uh, hold guys accountable type leadership.
04:05I'm not talking about good guys that work hard and set the example on a daily basis.
04:09They're the first guy in the building, last guy out there.
04:12They're great teammates.
04:14They do their job.
04:14We're not talking about that.
04:15I'm not talking about that.
04:16I'm talking about, I'm talking about dogs that when, when something ain't right, they are going to get it.
04:22They're going to get fixed right then and there.
04:24They're not going to wait until nobody's looking.
04:26They're not going to wait until the, the environment's perfect to have this conversation.
04:31They're not going to wait and clear it with the coach and make sure the coach is okay with them
04:35doing it this way or that way.
04:37Right there in the moment, they got, they got guys that can say, Hey man, this ain't it, man.
04:42This, we got to get this crap right.
04:44And if you ain't, if you ain't into getting it right, then get the hell up out of here.
04:48And if David Montgomery is that kind of guy, then I'm okay with where the Texans are and where Nick
04:55is with leading with that elite makeup and that leadership.
04:58I think this offensive unit as they're built right now, I think there is a, a, a significant void in,
05:07in leadership.
05:08We talked about it, um, with, when Trent Brown came on with us one day on one of our football
05:13Fridays or thirsty Thursday, can't remember which one it was the thirsty Thursday, obviously is when they, when they came
05:17on.
05:18But Trent Brown has that in him.
05:20And that, that is really one of the big reasons why, why I'm, why I'm excited about Trent Brown being
05:25a Texan, right?
05:27Hopefully David Montgomery has some of that in him as well.
05:29And if that is the case, I would argue that that's more important than maybe some of the other traits
05:36that a running back can bring to the table.
05:37If he has that Joe Mixon vibe, when he gets in the huddle, it's one of them like, Hey man,
05:42y'all get your ass in the huddle and shut up and give your eyes to CJ shroud.
05:46Don't talk when the quarterback's talking, man.
05:49Right.
05:49That kind of thing.
05:51Um, they need that desperately on this football team offensively.
05:54And if David Montgomery brings that to the table, I'm okay with the elite makeup and, uh, all the Nick
05:59Casario isms, if you will, when it comes to a player.
06:02Yeah.
06:02Coming from Detroit, that system, that head coach he was under, um, you know, was he one of those, those
06:10type players that, that brings that, like he is coming from a winning organization, a place that's been winning.
06:16Obviously they didn't make the playoffs last year, but over the last couple of years, Detroit has been a winning
06:21organization.
06:23And, you know, I do wonder if that, cause that could be helpful.
06:25Listen, I don't have a problem with, man.
06:27This is what they do.
06:28I at least understand and love that they have, they have a philosophy and they love to, uh, to get
06:35certain guys like that.
06:36Now I would love to hear at some point, you know, a little thought of, at least a little bit
06:42more thought of, Hey man, this dude, this dude not only has elite makeup, but this dude has elite speed.
06:48Sure.
06:49Or this dude has elite skills.
06:50He's going to be a problem to contain on Sunday.
06:54This dude's going to be a problem and he's tough as hell, but, but, but, but I think you, I
06:59think you're right on that.
07:00I think they, they could use, if he has that, that Joe Mixon and, and, and style wise, I don't
07:07think he's the caliber of back as, as Joe Mixon, at least the Joe Mixon from a couple of years
07:12ago, but, uh, that they got.
07:14But I do think you could, you can see his toughness.
07:16Um, and, and, and he was one of the leaders out there in Detroit on that offense.
07:22So that, that, that if that is something that he brings, I think that's, that is definitely.
07:27Oh, I just, I just think it's so big, man.
07:29And we haven't talked about it in a while.
07:31Cause we had other dead horses to beat, I guess.
07:32But at this, at this point in time, I just, as they're signing these offensive linemen, uh, I, I, and,
07:40and filling voids offensively, I just think it's, you know, Woody's not that guy.
07:44Nico's not that guy.
07:45CJ's not that guy.
07:47Um, you know, I, I, it doesn't seem like Ariante Ursary is that guy right now.
07:52He may be moving forward and hopefully he is.
07:54We've heard great things about him in that old line room.
07:56Hopefully he is.
07:58We know Trent Brown has some of that to him, but to your point earlier, Trent Brown's only healthy.
08:02Half the games.
08:03It's hard for you to hold guys accountable.
08:04It's hard for you to move the needle.
08:06If you're not available in playoff time, it's hard to, to, uh, to obviously be that guy when it matters
08:11the most.
08:12So there ain't no stoves.
08:13There ain't no toes that he'd be stepping on.
08:15Yeah, that's right.
08:16There's nobody there that he's got to.
08:18Yeah.
08:19Look, and it doesn't seem like Dalton Schultz is that guy.
08:21Doesn't seem like Cade Stover or Brevin Jordan are going to be that guy.
08:24You know, you obviously Christian Kirk's not going to be here.
08:26Higgins doesn't seem to be that guy that's going to be stepping on throats.
08:29So you, you got some guys in play and you've got, you, you, you got a lot of good going
08:34on boy, but you just, you need somebody that ain't afraid to hurt somebody's feelings.
08:38And this is a 29 year old dude.
08:40Who's ready to try to win a chance.
08:43That's it, man.
08:44And you've got a lot to prove.
08:45I mean, just got pushed up out of, out of Detroit when he's playing some of his best ball, albeit
08:50by a great running back in, in Jameer Gibbs.
08:52But you still feel some kind of way when they chose him over you and your cut, your carry started
08:57getting cut.
08:58So you got a lot to prove right now.
09:00So yeah, I'm, I'm, uh, back to the original point.
09:03Like I, to me, I'm, I'm fatigued of hearing their talk about culture and chemistry and elite makeup and how
09:09this guy's tough and he fits at some, I agree.
09:11I'm fatigued with it, but in this instance, I'm all right with it because I believe this offense needs it
09:16desperately.
09:16Yeah.
09:17Yeah.
09:17I don't know if Reese Hall brings that.
09:19I think maybe Reese Hall brings the other stuff, but I don't know if he, but I don't know if
09:23he brings that, uh, that would, would, as you've talked about since the season ended, what they need.
09:28All right.
09:28Coming up.
