00:00Brandon, David Montgomery, is that what you envisioned
00:04and how you feel about it now that you know he's here?
00:07I personally wanted a scat back, somebody that could,
00:11when CJ's under pressure and he could just dump it off
00:14and he could get us a good five to ten yards.
00:16Got Woody Marks.
00:18I mean, that's very true, but I don't feel like he's a scat back.
00:21He's not somebody who's going to go from the one-yard line
00:24all the way to the touchdown.
00:25I personally like it.
00:26I feel like we're going off the swarm-ness last couple of years.
00:30Our defense was just going to hit you in the mouth, hit you in the mouth.
00:34Obviously, that's what David Montgomery does.
00:35I feel like, obviously, we're doing the Patriots way, and I don't mind it.
00:40Unless it's on my fantasy football team, then maybe a little bit.
00:43But I feel like if we just have fresh backs going in there,
00:46just punching you in the mouth, punching you in the mouth, it's a win.
00:49Exactly how we won with the defense,
00:51I feel like we're just trying to do that with the offense.
00:53We're wearing tear down the defenses, and in the second half,
00:57we just run the ball out and gas them.
00:59I personally like it.
01:01I was a little bit skeptical at first,
01:04but I try to look at the green light or the green positive out of it.
01:08And also, if you like somebody, I feel like you should go and get it.
01:11And that's exactly what they did.
01:13They like David Montgomery.
01:14A lot of people are like, oh, he gave up too much.
01:16But I feel like if you want your guy, and he's available, go get it.
01:20Beat everybody else.
01:21Stop waiting and trying to outbid everybody else.
01:23Like, you got your guy, and let's go see what he can do.
01:27You got your guys, and there's no excuses now.
01:29You're the first one to get a running back, so let's go see.
01:31Let's go.
01:32All right.
01:32Appreciate you, Brandon.
01:33Brandon was wanting Dave Meggett back there.
01:35Yeah.
01:36One of Darren Sproles back there, baby.
01:37Hey, but you know what I'd love if they did?
01:41And they're not going to be able to do this,
01:43because it looks like this guy is either going to get an extension,
01:45or at the very least, the Texans are not going to be in the market for him.
01:48But if they did this, let's close our eyes again, right, for a second.
01:52All right, I'll close it.
01:52I would like for them, if they're going to bring in, you know,
01:55close our eyes considering they've already brought in David Montgomery.
01:59If they could bring in David Montgomery and say, along with Devon A. Chan, right,
02:06and try to recreate what they're doing or what they were doing in Detroit
02:10here in Houston with, let's say, David Montgomery and Devon A. Chan,
02:14similar to what they were doing with David Montgomery and Jameer Gibbs,
02:19I'd really get behind that.
02:21You know they ain't getting no –
02:22No, right.
02:23That's why I close my eyes, because I know it's not happening.
02:27That's why I say close your eyes, because I know it's not happening.
02:29So just dream with me for a second.
02:31A. Chan's probably going to get extended by the Dolphins,
02:33and certainly the Texans just by this move alone.
02:35Oh, yeah.
02:35I think they're not in the market for that.
02:37But if they were, I'd be in full support of that.
02:40Like, oh, we're not going to get Kenneth Walker or Brees Hall
02:44or whatever the Saquon Barkley-Derek Henry analogy would be.
02:48But we're going to get David Montgomery and Devon A. Chan
02:51or something like that, kind of to the callers, to Brandon's point.
02:55You better hope Woody Marks is there.
02:56I'd go with that.
02:57Text line coming in.
02:58We pretty much have another Joe Mixon.
03:00I do not agree with that.
03:01Come on.
03:01Like I said, I don't think David Montgomery is on Joe Mixon's level.
03:09Joe Mixon had that offensive line in front of him
03:16when Kenyon Green was getting his ass drop kicked regularly
03:20for the first seven, eight games, and he got to a Pro Bowl on that.
03:24There were holes.
03:25We watched it, right, fellas?
03:27There was nobody else that could run behind that offensive line except him.
03:33Dude.
03:34Like nobody.
03:35And I know we're talking about Damian couldn't read holes or whatever,
03:38but nobody could.
03:40His very first game as a Texan against the Indianapolis Colts.
03:46I can remember after that game being so confused by a lot of the conversation
03:49about how well the offensive line played.
03:51And then some of the advanced numbers came in after that,
03:54and it turned out Joe Mixon had 100-plus yards,
03:57and all but like five of them were after contact.
04:00That's what I'm saying.
04:00Joe Mixon made that run game.
04:02Yeah, Joe Mixon, especially now, I don't know what the hell Joe Mixon is now.
04:08I don't know what he is with this mysterious injury.
04:11I don't think he knows.
04:11I don't think he either.
04:12But the Joe Mixon from a couple of years ago,
04:15the one that made the Pro Bowl with the Houston Texans,
04:19that David Montgomery is not on that level.
04:23He's a really good player.
04:25He's not on that level.
04:27He's probably better than Joe Mixon today,
04:29given that we don't know what he is.
04:31Yeah, this is your Joe Mixon.
04:33But not the Joe Mixon that they brought in, no.
04:35Yeah, no, not the one that played for the Bengals.
04:37Joe's a cut above.
04:38Still can work, but he's not on that same level.
04:40All right, Fred, where are you at?
04:42Was that the running back you envisioned
04:45when they talked about improving the running back room
04:47and how you feel about the fit now?
04:50Man, now, first of all, this is Freddie B from the 63, man.
04:54I'm H-time, so no, no, no, no.
04:57I was thinking K-9 like yourself.
04:59I'm thinking K-9 or Brees Hall or something like that.
05:02But, however, I go back, I'm old school H-time.
05:06So, man, this might be a Ben Tate-Aaron Foster combination.
05:12And then the guy that you're talking about, like, hey, let's go get him back.
05:16What about Nicholas Singleton?
05:18Penn State, 4'3", big boy, 6'4".
05:22That might be the explosive guy you're talking about.
05:24You know, hey, like B Scott said, maybe we get a tight end.
05:29You know, it's a lot of ways to skin a cat.
05:32But, no, that wasn't what I was thinking.
05:34But I think this could be – Chubbs ain't give us nothing.
05:37So, if you got Montgomery and then Woody, you got something.
05:42Chubbs ain't give you nothing.
05:43Fred, I'm just kidding.
05:44Who's the Arian Foster in this analysis?
05:48The Arian Foster's got to be Montgomery.
05:51I mean, come on, Montgomery don't have a lot of wearing tail on his body, though.
05:54The last couple years, he only had 100 and some carries.
05:58You know, he ain't been – you know, he's fresh.
06:00He's 29, but he's fresh.
06:02I think he can give us 800.
06:04I think he can give us 800 right at that 1,000 you're talking about.
06:07And he's been getting about eight touchdowns every year.
06:10And I think Woody is going to have something to prove.
06:13Like, hey, don't forget about me.
06:15So, that's just my thought.
06:17Fred, don't hang up because we got to – Fred, you're going to have to –
06:21before you get off this phone, you're going to have to say
06:23that Arian Foster and David Montgomery competition.
06:25You know what Fred means.
06:27That got away from you a little bit.
06:28You know what he means.
06:29That got away from you a little bit, Fred.
06:30I know what you mean for you.
06:32You know what I mean.
06:32I'm not comparing him to Aaron Foster.
06:36I'm saying the combination of Ben Tate and Aaron Foster,
06:40it could be Montgomery and Woody.
06:42Okay.
06:42And if they can give me 1,500 and 14 touchdowns on my backfield, I'm okay.
06:50All right.
06:50Hell yeah, hell yeah, you're okay.
06:51I appreciate you, Fred.
06:53Hell yeah, you're all right.
06:55Montgomery is the lead back.
06:56So, if you're going to do the comparison, then he does have to be the Arian Foster.
07:01Arian Foster got 70 catches.
07:03Yeah, we all must acknowledge, though, there is no Arian Foster walking through that door.
07:08There's nobody in this.
07:09I was wondering who the Arian Foster was.
07:10There's not an Arian Foster walking through.
07:12Hell yeah, they get 4, too.
07:13David Montgomery can work.
07:14Close us out, Corey, man.
07:15Our guy, Corey, where you at, man?
07:16Is that what you expected and how you like to fit?
07:19Actually, I work right down the street from NRG.
07:23And, man, let's be serious.
07:24First of all, don't disrespect Arian Foster like that.
07:27When I close my eyes and I envision us getting a running back, I thought it was going to be
07:32K-9, too.
07:32I thought we could trade him to get love out of Notre Dame.
07:35So, honestly, he's giving me David Johnson vibes, and he might be wearing 32, how David Johnson had – I
07:43mean, David Montgomery had a good season in Chicago, and, yes, he had less carries when he was in Detroit.
07:48But we have to see what we really got because, like, Joe Mixon, when he was good, when he first
07:53got here, we all agreed that he was good.
07:55You know what I'm saying?
07:56He was very good for it, and he made the offensive line look good.
07:59So, now we're putting our faith in David Montgomery, and we're putting our faith in Woody Marks, and everybody seems
08:04to forget that Woody Marks had a crucial fumble when we played the Patriots this year in the playoffs.
08:09He did.
08:09All I'm saying is, I'm going to hope for the best, but it's like, what do we really know what
08:14we're getting out of David Montgomery?
08:15And he might be better than Joe Mixon at this point, but how do we really know that until we
08:21get on down there?
08:22We don't even know if he can run – we don't even know what our line looks like, bro.
08:25That's why I know everybody's optimistic.
08:27I'm being a realist.
08:28I mean, we have to fit the offensive line.
08:30If we don't fit the offensive line, this was for nothing.
08:33It means Detroit won the trade.
08:34Hey, Corey, this is a safe space, baby.
08:37You can be a realist.
08:37You can be honest about Dave.
08:40All I know is we need another running back.
08:42We need a home run hitter, like you're saying, to do Miami.
08:46We could get him, which we're probably not going to do.
08:49No, no, it's over.
08:50We'll have speed, we'll have power, and we'll have a looseness when we have Marks.
08:54So, I do think we need to get a running back in the draft.
08:56But I think that a lot more pressure is going to be on CJ, especially if this running game doesn't
09:01work.
09:02And I want to see your opinion on that.
09:03Who would you like to see that if we could get somebody in free agency or the draft to complement
09:09those two backs, who would it be?
09:10All right.
09:11Appreciate the call, Corey.
09:13We'll look at that here.
09:14I mean, it's going to have to be in the draft.
09:15I don't think it's going to be another established name, right?
09:19I mean, essentially now you went from Woody Marks and Nick Chubb to David Montgomery and Woody Marks.
09:25That is better.
09:26You got to also understand, they may think Gerard Jordan is as good as anybody that they may get late.
09:32I mean, he was a revelation for them.
09:34Like, you know he's playable.
09:35I expect they may draft somebody later.
09:37And he's going to give them some better.
