00:00stories are abundant uh we're starting i think we got workouts here coming up here this evening
00:04what uh what is the biggest things you've kind of heard or the stories you found most interesting
00:09thus far well i mean we got to go right off the top with the measurements right and and ruben
00:14bain and arm length and those kind of things we do one of these players every year where
00:19you know i i get it this is a the nfl is you know a hundredth of a second on
00:25a 40 here
00:26your your strength in the bench press there we overreact to all these things but uh i think and
00:32i don't know if you feel the same way bobby like ruben bain's production speaks to me the way that
00:37he was an interior force now obviously the nfl is a jump in competition but i just watched him
00:42dominate in that indiana game dominate through the college football playoff maybe it means he falls
00:48out of the top five but is that really uh is your arm length really the reason you're going to
00:54fall
00:54out of the top five maybe it will be their teams so bill parcells had this he had like uh
01:00dimensions
01:00that he would build build players around and there are certain guys that he would not make exceptions
01:07for like a position there were certain things that once you cross that threshold no matter how
01:10productive or how good you were and it was like either you know tackle like hip height because you
01:17didn't want to have tackles that had too high of hips too long in seams he said they couldn't bend
01:21and
01:21anchor well enough you know there was an arm length component you know for defensive players i don't
01:28know if there was ever any like true speed components but they were more just physical attributes that
01:32were completely objective and i want to say it was brandon graham if i'm not mistaken who i think it
01:39was when he was with miami as like their football czar they wouldn't take brandon graham because of his
01:45arm length they were like a half inch too short and the gm i think was jeff ireland and he
01:49was
01:49arguing with him how productive he was he's like i'm not doing it now he would take those guys in
01:55the nfl like once they were already established players but he's like i don't want to be the
01:59guinea pig he's like i know what works i know what doesn't there are exceptions to the rule let that
02:03exception be for somebody else so i found that uh found that very interesting you know when that would
02:09come out one of one of the other interesting stories bill that you're starting to hear people talk
02:13about and pop up is how some of the uh front office guys in the area of like nil and
02:20transfer portal
02:22like does that make your evaluation easier or more difficult and the one of the themes like well
02:28actually you you have them playing more schemes or doing different stuff it shows capacity to learn
02:32or maybe not but also because you can get a lot more information because there's a lot more coaches
02:38to go to and these guys there might not be any inherent loyalty so they may be more apt to
02:44give
02:44you an honest assessment of maybe what this player is yeah i totally agree with that maybe 15 years ago
02:51why is this quarterback at three different schools and now they they have the advantage of playing in three
02:57different schemes just like you said so somebody like fernando mendoza there would be no question
03:01about him transferring from cal to indiana where he became a super productive player uh carson back
03:09quarterback that will probably get talked about a lot when the quarterbacks work out in this draft
03:14and whether or not that means he goes on day two or day three as another one of those players
03:18that's a
03:18great point because in the past it was player transfer one or two times now you know it's just part
03:23of the
03:24game so maybe they do look on that less and the interview portion tends to generate a couple reactions
03:29i think a player that we're going to overreact to no matter what happens what what he measures how he
03:35does
03:35how he throws the football will be diego pavia um especially if he has a good combine there will be
03:42a giant
03:43overreaction to him and how he might fit on day two or day three it's gonna be interesting because his
03:49height
03:50i think even more him throwing bill is going to be the intrigue ultimately with his height when he comes
03:55to get measured and you know what his true height actually is and what that looks like are you
04:01heading over to the combine do you have you ever been there do you think there's any value in that
04:05going as a member of the media i there is i won't be there this year i i think you
04:10know because so much
04:11business in the nfl gets done and then it starts to come out next week you know whether it's a
04:16quarterback like kyler murray or to a tongue of iloa and we figure out what's going to happen with those
04:21guys i think they use that for this um you know you get to go to st elmo's and those
04:26kind of things
04:26when you go to indianapolis you never want to pass that up but i i think to me it's more
04:32of a a fun
04:33three days to familiarize yourself with some of the players that are going to get drafted in a couple
04:39months you try to find a couple diamonds in the rough i think a guy like warren mcneill for uh
04:44the uh toledo you know just like kenyan minchel a couple years ago he is a guy that could benefit
04:51from this you know those mac gems those kind of guys
